Okay hear me out: airigo college (or boarding school) au where where Aiden and Varian are in a mostly friendly competition for first in the class. Hugo is secretly also in the running and the three tend to switch what place they're in all the time, though they don't know it. Hugo acts like he doesn’t care, never seems sober in class, etc, so Varian and Aiden don't like him much, and Hugo doesn't like how they act like goody two shoes.
UNTIL they have to work together in a group project that makes up a huge portion of their final grade and of course newfound understanding and gay hijinks ensue

I actually did have a college au forever ago but it was very random (I have no idea how college works 😔) and I scrapped it for the highschool one. But it followed a similar idea of them not getting along before getting stuck together for a group project!

important thought i just had. how do you imagine hugo’s gender nonconformity like how does he identify with any label in particular or is he just Like that. and more importantly do you think he’s already figured it out by the time he meets the gang or do you think the egg breaks later. BC SEE i’ve always imagined up until the trials shes never had the time to think about herself at ALL, like she obviously knows shes kinda *flicks wrist* yk but otherwise she’s never really actually come to any real conclusions about herself. so i think as soon as they move in with varian and once they’ve finally settled and they have SO much free time and so many things going on in their head, they’re trying new hobbies and finding all sorts of things to tinker with and most importantly they finally have the opportunity to care about their appearance and suddenly the gender crisis hits them like a fucking FREIGHT TRAIN

Also I personally headcanon everything and anything, I love switching labels of one character and making a whole new au for it. But covering EVERYTHING would be too long so I answered regarding Aiden's main timeline only- but if you want me to talk about transfem Hugo in particular I'd love to!!]

Saddly it wouldn't work in Aiden's original timeline simply because, in this case, Hugo wouldn't be Hugo if he hadn't transition already.
I've never really openly delved into my headcanons for the whole gang, because I like people being able to interpret my art however they want (and also because I can change my mind whenever and no one would know-). But in Aiden's universe, Hugo isn't amab.
But to go back on how I imagine Hugo's gender noncomformity!
Firstly, in universe, I'm not sure neither Hugo nor Aiden really identify with a gender label. They don't really have a word for it so they're just how they are. But I personally label him as bigender transmasc. And I do still label them as gay. Cuz. Queer homosexuals representation. Yay.
Secondly- Hugo actually transitioned before figuring out his gender. Being an orphan is already harsh, being poor is terrible and he figured being female generally made things more difficult. So she didn't want to be one. When he got recruited by Don for the first time he was already dead set on not wanting to be a girl and didn't have a name anymore so Donella is the one who named him Hugo. I think Don was "supportive" as in she really didn't care, and if helping Hugo transition meant he would be more useful then that worked for her just fine. So Hugo got to transition but it wasn't really because he didn't feel like he wasn't a girl, she just didn't think it would be advantageous for him to be one.
Sorry I got sidetracked- cough- Back on topic.
One thing I wanted regarding Hugo's relationship to gender is the fact that he is comfortable being fem BECAUSE he got to transition.
For work they would play whichever role worked best no matter the gender. At first, looking like a guy needed more work, which bothered him because it was his goal, so for a while he had a clear preference for appearing masculine. But years later, after having transitioned to a comfortable point, she figured she really didn't mind being either gender. And it made playing different roles even more fun and easy for them. Not necessarily in a fluid way, he's just everything at once most of the time.
So he already got herself figured out quite well when 7k starts. Actually, Hugo being openly queer is another reason why she caught Aiden's interest so fast. And I wanted them to mirror each others in a way, with Hugo being comfortable because he transitioned and Aiden being more comfy doing the absolute bare minimum-. Also I had this one joke that sometimes Nuru and Hugo would have girls nights during the journey. So I needed she/her Hugo for all of this to work lol. But I do believe Hugo still gets to affirm and discover himself even more after he settles, it's just mostly about other things.
BUT YOU KNOW WHO'S EGG GOT TO CRACK DURING THE TRIALS IN MY MIND-??? Varian. He's agender. My whole gang is trans and the joke was that Varian is the token cis guy of the group (because I thought it was funny). But he isn't. He just doesn't know because he's always too busy thinking of literally anything else and he never really registered that was an option. He still uses he/him tho. Because I enjoy gender fuckery.
In summary :

Also, since I decided to finally talk about my headcanons, I think too many people assumed Aiden is the one pregnant -in that one comic-. They aren't.

Okay. so Aiden. They're my special guy.
I have a masterpost about them linked in my pinned post.. somewhere- if you wanna go further about them- you don't have to, its okay, no worries-
But anyway. Quick summary!
Aiden is my TTS oc. They're genderfluid and use any pronouns (I am a bad exemple I almost only they/them him 😔) they're a witch! Because those are a thing in my worldbuilding. And their magic speciality is similar to hypnosis (because this is always fun)
She's around a year and some months older than Var, their parents were friends. So technically Aiden and V are childhood friends but they genuinely drift apart like... 4 times-
Aiden is a nerd and is studying under the castle's physician to become one himself.
Also he lost his right leg to the storm in Queen for a day. They took some time to recover but ultimately decided helping his friend to break out of jail was better than coping like a normal person. So they helped the saporians to take over the castle.
They got grounded afterward. Rest of tts isnt much important- they get back to assisting the royal physician. But said physician really wants to retire so Aiden is stressed out about it.
Then he follows Var in his journey through the 7 kingdoms because she wants to run away from her problems again.
The 7k journey happens. More shenanigans. Add witches and family drama to the mix. And the worst love triangle ever.
I assume you know I ship him with both Varian and Hugo 😔 bunch of nerds
Anyway they lived happily ever after (after more family and witches shenanigans)

I'd have an idea for a request, but only if you want.
I like to imagine that Varian is pretty damn strong, so one day the others are like "you are not THAT strong" and dare him to play tug-of-war.
Varian is less intimidated and more like "I don't want to hurt you."
Which means of course they play it.
Hugo, Nuru, Yong, Ruddiger and Prometheus are all holding one end of the rope with all their strength, sweating and trembling while Varian is just jolding the rope with one hand and looks woried at them.
What do you think?

OK hear me out Hugo and Aiden LOOOOVE musicals but Varian doesn't really get them. Also do you think Aiden can sing bc I feel like Hugo would not be that great of a singer and it would be funny in a vat7k show bc Hugo would be like "I can't sing" and three minutes ago he sang his I want song with the voice of an angel

I don't think Aiden is a huge singer, but they hum a lot during work. (Witches have plenty of lullabies and short songs they recite as good luck charms, since their words carry magic.) So Aiden's singing voice wouldn't be strong and it would probably break if they tried to sing dificult notes loudly. It's fine, she always prefered dancing over singing-
I have so many thoughts and questions popping up now. Since Varian isn't a huge musical fan do you think he prefers classical music? Maybe anything without lyrics so listening to it won't mess his focus on whatever he is working on.? Is Hugo a big musical fan or just anything theater? I like to think Hugo really likes theater and songs because he learnt how to read rather late so it was his only way to have stories accessible to him for a while.
ALSO. Hear me out. A musical version of the Tales of Flynnigan Ryder. (In universe). That would be hilarious, maybe that's why Varian isn't fan of musicals, because, in his opinion, the adaptation isn't fateful enough to the books and he holds a grudge against musicals since-

May I have ALL the details on how Aiden's magic works please please 🥺
OF COURSE!!!
long post ahead- I'll throw some reminders about witches and magic in Aiden's universe, talk about his family and then Aiden specifically.
Witches.
Witches are basically halfbloods of both realms : the Mystic and the Matter (original I know-). Because of that they are influenced by both realms.
● Advantages they have on humans are : they can sense the flow of magic, they get some cool powers, and they can cast spells without the help of an artifact as long as they studied said spell. (And they have cool eye colors lol)
● However they are binded by some rules : they cannot break promises as they act like magical contracts, lying isnt natural to them (it's seen as taboo between witches because their words carry power, some cannot lie at all), and magic is something they need to live (like food, its energy they need to sustain. Unless their powers are binded already since it wouldn't need to be replenished anymore)
● Each bloodlines have their own specialty/power depending on who/what they descend from. And not every member has the same amount of power. (If both parents are witches, the child will inherit the magic from only one of them).
● Humans are easier targets for spells but Witches aren't immune to magic either, they can use spells on fellow witches, family members and even themselves.
● Witches can bind their powers, through various means, to live as humans if they want but it can be permanent and sometimes impact their overall health
● Witchlings are sometimes concidered more powerful because they lack self control and awareness. Magic being part of the witch themself it will react to emotions and to the person's confidence.
The Venefica family (Aiden's)
The Venefica family descends from a demon, which is a fact the family has been keeping secret since forever. Their speciality is mind magic and its mostly similar to hypnosis : you implement a suggestion into the target's mind who will think of it as their own if your spell succeed.
But. The family isn't really open about the extent of its ability. They will more often describe it as a supportive type of magic (helping people feeling better or more confident, etc)
What it can actually do :
The basis of mind magic is to make the target do what you want or to make them feel however you want them to, without the target necessarilly realising you are influencing them. It can be a one time command or be longlasting. Aside from that, it can also be used as body enhancement of sorts : by making the target forget its limit and render them unable to feel pain for exemple (in that case it is dangerous to the body and can result in long lasting damage). More difficult abilities mind magic gives are : telepathy and being able to go through and modify people's memories.
HOW it works :
It depends on the Witch using said power, the command AND the target. Witches who are less powerful will have more difficulties and limits. Target wise, strong willed people are harder to influence. And of course the more out of character a command is, the more magic you need to convince the target to do it.
Overall, the more contact with the target, the better it works.
For exemple : less powerful members of the family could need physical contact, eye contact AND to tell their command out loud to the target. Meanwhile more powerful Veneficas could use their powers with a simple whisper to the target.
Plus, if you want the command to work long term you might need repetitive contact with the target to make sure your magic still influencing them. Though it is possible to keep it from a distance by using artefacts or other tricks (a burning candle's fume or a beverage made to fuel the spell for exemple)
Lastly if the target already trusts you or if you know them well enough it will be easier to influence their mind. (Straight up gaslighting people does help- so knowing how your target usually thinks makes it easier)
Now to delve more about Aiden!
● I'll be honest she's a bit overpowered, which is a whole problem for a while because she never got to learn how to use her powers correctly until the journey through the 7 kingdoms.
It used to get him into trouble when he was a kid (because he didnt understand what was going on yet so it put himself and others in danger). But he does think it helped him making friends easily throughout his life (without his knowing at the time).
● As of now they mostly uses their power to appease people or as some sort of painkiller. Pretty useful for a physician surrounded by idiots getting hurt 24/7. And now (post 7k) they are powerful enough to not need physical contact most of the time.
● She does use it on herself.
● Eventually (few years after 7k) Aiden gets to be able to go through other people's memories but if its without the other's consent they will need physical contact to do so.
● So far, telepathy and memory reading only works well with Varian and Hugo (and pets to some degree), because they give Aiden their permission whenever and they are the ones he gets to practice on the most. But he does need eye contact and to concentrate for it to work. It's even more effective when it is calm around them.
For the pets, because they can't talk, telepathy with them is closer to sharing feelings and concepts rather than articulated thoughts.
Random facts :
● Artefacts to enhance a witch's power exist
● A witch's eye color depends on their mystical ancestor and the amount of power the witch possesses. (Veneficas are associated with purple and their eyes go from indigo to a pinkish purple, indigo usually being the weakest)
● When a witch uses magic their eyes will glimmer more or less slightly. The bigger the spell the more visible it should be.
● When a witch dies, their spells dissipates unless it is carried by an artefact.
That's about it!
● Same for promises. If someone involved in one dies, the contract becomes null.
● I am still debating about it but I think it could be neat if witches got physical traits from their magical ancestor whenever they get into the Mystic Realm-

what did aiden and varian and hugo do for valentine's day
Aaw that's a cute question-
So we're talking Day of Hearts, I suppose, which is headcanoned to happen in august- which is also. Their anniversary. (Same date they got together, not the wedding date)
You'd think they would do something grand and over the top but actually they tend to spend the day with friends, simply using the celebration as a well deserved break from work. It's a casual date with whoever is available at the time. They go around town, buy stuffs, save Daniel from another blinddate set up by his parents, dance, plan a picnic, shenanigans happen but overall it's pretty chill.
They do, however, keep the evening for themselves alone. Usually they plan a nice dinner and exchange simple gifts. Activities varry a lot, it can go from cuddling at home to going back to the lab because they suddenly had the craziest idea during their conversations- as long as its something they can all enjoy together, anything goes.

I just realized that even though i see your art of him and you talk about him a lot, i don't actually know anything about aiden. so. infodump to me about your OC lore please.
!!!! hi <3 I have SO MUCH to say about Aiden- and yet I don't share that much about them! I draw them a lot but never give much context, my bad xP
I did answer an ask a while ago about them here if you want! it has all the basic infos you might need and I've just updated it a bit because some stuff was outdated and I wanted to add some details. I also think you can find (very) few things in the eryanwrites tag
But you're asking for infodumping so!!! Imma infodump MORE >:3c
(this is in addition to the post I linked- you might want to read said post before, to have more context)
⚙ Backstory stuff
Despite being born in Old Corona, Aiden spent half of their childhood in another village even farther away from the capital. This village is run by a small saporian community and was mostly filled with travelers so people tended to come and go, lots of witches came by looking to seal their power to pass as human. So Aiden and their parents were easily welcomed there.
When Aiden was a child, the local Grandma (Aiden never learnt her name- she was just referred by everyone as Grandma) used to play with Aiden's hair a lot while she told stories. Aiden avoided cutting their hair for her, and even after her death they still refused to cut it.
Said Grandma was the village's healer and quickly became Aiden's role model. She was the first person to mentor Aiden in their quest to become a physician.
Aiden's second mentor is the current royal physician, the only one who didn't leave when the Queen got sick and no one could find a cure. Both of Aiden's mentor were/are unhinged and definetly shouldn't be trusted to teach children but that's why I love them.
Aiden is very not normal about human bodies. Both because of autism and the way their mentors educated them about it. Aiden is pretty desentisized about stuff most people would find gross.
⚙ Aiden's relationship with other characters
Aiden has a pretty good relationship with their parents. They're very loving people but a tad overprotective, it kinda made Aiden avoid talking to them about big problems because he was scared to worry them more than necessary, but overall they all love and care for each others. Aiden is just terrible at understanding and communicating his own needs.
They have many friends within the castle since they've been working here for a while now. They're also known outside of the capital since his mentor sometimes send them away, either on errand or to take care of villages without doctors.
Aiden isn't close to the main cast of tts, beside Varian. He respects and admires most of them but he doesn't consider them friends since he never really got interested in getting closer to them. They do know they can count on him when any of them gets hurt or sick, it's his job after all.
Aiden has a bestie- his name is Daniel, he's the son of the merchants proccuring most herbs for the physicians, and is currently part of the royal guards. He isn't a very fun person but Aiden enjoys how down to earth he can be.
⚙ random stuff
During the series Aiden went through like... 4 different leg prosthesis in one year because people (bad guy of the season) kept on breaking it. (I'll admit it was my go-to excuse as to why Aiden doesn't appear in canon. They're always off screen doing random things or laying on the floor stuck somewhere 😔)
They're very sensitive to temperatures since the Storm that made them lose their leg.
Aiden's magic got sealed by a tattoo on their back when they were very young, so as they grew up the tattoo got deformed and the seal weakened. Their extended family is the ones completely getting rid of it- by removing part of the skin. Hopefully for Aiden he was under hypnosis when that happens and he has no memories of it whatsoever. Varian is the one who found out about it and it made him really mad.
So you know Venefica's magic is linked to mind control. And Aiden caught feelings for Varian long before he caught feelings for them himself. Varian is very obvious about his feelings, yet Aiden doesn't acknowledge it at all. That's because they're somehow convinced Varian's feelings aren't genuine and is caused by their own magic they never learnt to control.
I mentioned witches cannot break promises so they avoid doing any, since it can easily end badly for them. Aiden (so far) made 2 : one to Quirin and one to Donella. The first one lowkey resulted in the loss of their leg. The second brought distrust between them and Varian. So yeah. Promises bad.
The only reason Hugo is allowed to call them Hobble is because he helped a lot with their prosthesis and still does
⚙ shipping stuff
At this point if you don't know I ship Aiden with both Varian and Hugo then-.. Idk how you escaped all my posting about them but I admire that, this is impressive. Anyway-
I wanted to try doing an actual love triangle so when each of them catch feelings it starts with : Aiden -> Hugo ; Hugo -> Varian ; Varian -> Aiden. Then things just... happen and at some point they all have feelings for both of the other and they are struggling to figure out what to do about it.
The first two to get into a relationship are Aiden and Hugo, but it's not really romantic, they're just having fun. Hugo quickly understood Varian was the team leader but the boy kept Aiden in high regard, so getting Aiden on his side would eventually bring Varian to it too. Aiden is very aware of it and is fine with it as long as Hugo isn't actively trying to get them hurt.

What do you think is Hugo's gender identity? Cus I want to hear what you think Hugo's gender is and the story behind it.
(I've answered a similar ask some weeks ago so I am sorry for the repeat, I hope it's okay)
With me, when it comes to label headcanons for characters, it always depends! I like to change it depending on the story I want (because sometimes it ties to the plot) and I enjoy every version of them.
◇ But I do have a main headcanon, so let's focus on that one :
I headcanon Hugo as a bigender transmasc. And I believe she is comfortable appearing feminine now BECAUSE he got to transition to a comfortable point for him. Transition he started pretty early on, even before figuring out his own gender. (Taking into account I think most pride labels doesn't really exist in-universe, like the words don't exist yet, queer people are a thing but they don't label themself the way we do now)
◇ As for the story behind it, I'll detail it a bit more than I did last time :
(I forgot if it was a "canon" thing or just widly accepted fanon) We know Hugo is an orphan, and I believe the orphanage he was in wasn't the best environnement ever and perhaps not well taken care of. So as soon as they could they would send the kids to work wherever they could and obviously the more money they made the better. My Hugo was afab and she quickly noticed being seen as a boy gave you more advantage in that regard more often than not. So she didn't want to be seen as a girl anymore and started transitioning the best he could at the time. It had nothing with how she felt about herself, it was purely about what seemed more advantageous.
When Hugo got recruited by Donella for the first time, it had been a long while since he last used a name at all so, upon deciding to take him under her wing, Don is the one who named him Hugo. She also helped him through his transition because over the years simply cutting his hair and binding wasn't enough anymore, which bothered him a lot and he was annoying about it. Thanks to Don, Hugo got to go quite far in his transition pretty quick and he's rather proud of it. Once he reached the point he's at rn he stopped because it wasn't worth doing more, plus he figured passing as a girl could be useful too and at the moment it wasn't hard to go from one gender presentation to the other. And she figured she actually didn't mind being a girl either, plus playing roles is super entertaining to him so not being limited by gender gave him even more possibilities.
Actually I don't think she sees herself as multigender, she probably thinks of it as another tool under her sleeves. He knows not everyone is at ease being anyone, so it gives him an advantage. He's everything at once, and he's very happy being his own thing. If asked he'd probably label himself as whatever feels best at the moment (or whatever's the funniest).
Maybe it does give her a crisis once she settles in Corona because she doesn't have to play a role anymore so she's confused and unsure on what is even left of her but that's another story
◇ And in case you wanted to know why I chose those labels : I simply don't see lots of characters headcanoned as bigender, or even multigender in general (genderfluid Hugo makes me SO HAPPY-), and since I am multigender myself it's something dear to me! Plus I wanted to have fun exploring different ways people view gender and go through their discovery journey, so every member of the gang has a different experience regarding theirs, and yet they all share that trans umbrella together :) in short, I am just having fun lol

I genuinely tried to think of anyone other than Aiden but failed real hard (which scares me a bit at this point ggkfkfk)

I want to talk about their shit constitution which happens because of their powers, or the absence of it to be more exact.
Back to some worldbuilding. I did say they are a witch, it means in their lineage they share blood with a magical being, and each families have a special ability linked to that being. Witches is like its own subspecies of halfbloods- they appear almost entirely human with the only exception being their 'odd colored' eyes.
Aiden's family are mind witches, their special ability is hypnosis. Its a powerful ability and Aiden was REALLY good at it without even realising, to a point it caused reoccuring incidents and weird rumors. So their parents, who wanted to lay low (witches arent very welcomed in the Light Kingdom), decided to leave and find a way to lock Aiden's power, better safe than sorry. Since then Aiden has a tattoo on their back, close to where the heart would be. (Its also how their eyes turned orange instead of purple.)
The thing is that it made Aiden's past hypnosis null. And they used to hypnotize themself A LOT. So lots of physical problems started to appear, all the times they pushed their body past its limits, all the sicknesses they seemed to not catch, plus their body losing a flow of energy it used to be swimming in. Their health got TERRIBLE. It took them a while to get better enough to come back to Old Corona.
It also made them grow a bit distant from their parents (who are genuinely very good people) because they were too over protective. Lil Aiden simply saw that their pain caused pain to their parents and that when they werent feeling well they couldnt do much except resting in bed so they decided to ALWAYS be fine no matter what. It results in them putting aside any 'wrong feeling' and the start of them focusing on others well being rather than their own. Which globally makes their own health even worse, eventually resulting in them losing some limbs and being in pain 24/7 because they cannot ask for help ever-
Cue the want to become a physician rising. It makes them able to take care of themself on their own if needs be, but more importantly they get to be busy worrying about others rather than themself.
#which might be why I am so fascinated by their dynamic with Hugo#its the guy who appears always fine for others' sake vs the guy who appears always fine for his own mental health#and they catch on it and lowkey use it to their advantage and AURGH THEY MAKE ME INSANE#I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT AIDEN AND MY WORLDBUILDING AROUND VAT 7K I MIGHT EXPLODE#nuru and yong are also witches because they have weird eye colors but their kingdom is a bit more open about it#I try to explain the existance of magic in the tang led universe AND the lack of it at certain points#i developed this whole other dimension lowkey linked to where zhan ti ri was locked in#and their quest becomes more than just finding the eternal library but when they realise it there is no going back anyway#ITS A MESS. MY BRAIN IS A MESS.
