Off My Chest
Rant about Hybe under the cut. I give you my word I will try to post a majority of positive content, because the world (and my mental health) doesn't need more negativity, but sometimes you just gotta vent.
Folks, if you've known me for a hot second, you've realized I am a Jimin-biased Jikooker... but I am OT7, and I sincerely love and support BTS.
I believe Jimin is a grown man who can advocate for himself and I believe Jungkook absolutely supports and adores him, whatever their relationship status is.
I always try to accentuate the positive and avoid online drama and negativity as much as possible, but I need to get this off my chest.
I will never be gas-lit into believing that the way Jimin was treated in solo era was fair, or equitable, or even made any kind of business-sense. I've genuinely tried to entertain other people's points of view and listen to people who claim to have industry expertise, but...
I will never forget his mail being tampered with four times, his leaked insurance information, denial of more music videos, overlapped solo release, only 9 days of promotion, split title tracks, no radio or play-listing, no bio for his Spotify for months, no restock of his single CD for months, hundreds of thousands of frozen and deleted sales, millions of culled streams, shady articles in WeVerse and Billboard, insulting dialogue in In the Seom, failure to submit to RIAA certification for months, only a paywall documentary on WeVerse, zero official acknowledgement of his Hot 100 #1, 1 billion streams on Spotify, or wins for The Fact, MAMA, and two Webbys, plus broken in-ears, anemic little balloons and a sad background tarp as decorations for his fan events… and the company telling him how doing more would just be impossible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I compare all that to the push that other members and other groups got, and I know it just isn't true. It wasn't impossible.
Hell, Jeon Jungkook put in more effort to promote Jimin’s work and showed more respect for Jimin as an artist during his at-home lives than that whole company did, which honestly makes no sense from a profit standpoint.
I will never forget it, and I will not entertain arguments that say I’m a solo or an anti or jealous about it. I have eyes.
I am not out to shade any other members nor put forth any conspiracy theories. I simply want all our boys to get everything they justly deserve.
And yes, other members have suffered mishaps and neglect, but nothing of this scale, this consistently. It baffles me, I cannot understand it, and I'm done trying. Something strange was going on behind the scenes and we may never be privy to the details.
In trying to put this awful feeling behind me, I will say I am elated that Jikook are serving together and can support each other. I am glad there will be a Jikook travel show. I'm continually impressed with all of Jimin's success (in the military and professionally) despite all odds. I will always love and support all of BTS with my full heart.
And I sincerely hope the company has been taking notes and course-corrects for PJM2, even if it rubs some higher ups the wrong way if they had a different vision. Considering Jimin’s unique talents and his amazing star power—even his ability to bring Paris and New York to a screaming standstill just for the opportunity to see him exit a car—I would hope the company will “do their best to promote all labels and artists without discrimination” going forward.
But what happened truly sucked, and I needed to get that off my chest. I am not interested in further discussion or debate. I am now going to do my best to shift my focus and energy on to the things I want to manifest, instead of the things that enrage me.
So let me end on a positive and hopeful note: I put all my trust in Jimin, who signed a new contract with Hybe and who unfailingly adores all his members. There can be no love without trust. I will always do my best to trust BTS.
Tumblr media
But I'm watching carefully. For Jimin and all our boys.
Love, Roo

Today's very special and lengthy One Donut a Day is about one of my favorite Hoops and Yoyo shorts
Tumblr media
youtube
Its a cute little animation of Yoyo taking a walk around listening to the song Sugar Vendor by Softee.
Love the use of real locations. Piddles house is so cute too. I want to live there so badddughh!!! >w<
It's such an interesting short as its the only one of its kind, It feels branded like it was supposed to be its own recurring series but its not.
So after watching something like this I wondered how hoops and yoyo collaborated with an indie band but finding that kind of information is hard. First of all the band, Softee was an indie Pop band from Kansas City, Missouri had a pretty short run starting in 2009 and going for a few years before becoming inactive.
Excerpt from their youtube channel description,
“Softee is Sarah/bass/lead vox, Mimi/drums/vox, Flora/cello/keys & Steph/guitar/vox. A super fun lo-fi indie pop band from KC, USA, Softee met at work and are designer/illustrators by day and power popsters by night. They LOVE it and have a blast!!! We have 2 EPs & 2 singles available on itunes and amazon!!”
Looking at their page cant give me that much but it's something. Their albums are hard to find let alone catalog how many releases they’ve made. What I can find is 2 Ep’s and sugar vendor on a compilation album FIRST BLOOD which is the only way to listen to Sugar Vendor in good quality. Or like at all. Their youtube page has some of their songs performed live however the band being active in 2009 does not equate to the best quality.
youtube
They’re cool but I wish there were more answers. I'll try to find some contact info for members of the band and how they came in contact with Hallmark. Maybe they had ties due to their design work? If they did the (really nice) art for their albums and banners) they do match the styles Hallmark has for their media in this era. Their art has this cute little baby squirrel? I think thats what it is these icons and posters are nice.
Tumblr media
So if I think the obvious thing is to either contact Mike Adir and or Bob Holt but that would seem like a hassle because I'd have a billion questions about Hoops and Yoyo to ask them.
Well now that that section of the post is done with theres some merchandise based off this short, an Ipod case. It has Yoyo on one side with his ipod with some edited headphones instead of wearing the Apple Earbud style earbuds he wears in the Short, and Hoops on the other side just bein silly :p
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heres some things I ripped from the flash file. I wanted to rip Yoyos adorable little head bobbing but this ones really strange compared to other flash files i’ve digged into where I could not find this animation by itself in the file.
So have these of Yoyo and Piddles and the full backgrounds uncropped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of the backgrounds I wondered where Yoyo was walking. So for fun I tried to find out what the real world locations of the walk and map the trail so lets see where these locations are now.
Yoyo Takes a walk around 63rd street in the Brookside District in Kansas City Missouri possibly due to the band being from there maybe they frequented the spot. So lets reveal (almost) all the real locations from the short.
Location 1 - BlueBird Cafe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The short begins and ends here and Bluebird Cafe is actually a CVS :( I think has been for a long time.
Location 2 -  Coffee Depot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coffee Depot has an interesting history as it was once a Goodcents sandwich shop to now a Starbucks so it kind of is a Coffee Depot but less cute and more corporate and a big lack of a giant coffee mug on top I don't know if that was there at all or edited in.
Location 3 - pink house :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My personal favorite location as its such a pretty house. Unfortunately it was repainted in blue by the company that currently occupies it, a pest control service. I have no idea what previous business occupied the house as when i find other images of the house it seems to be up for sale. An odd point on googles street view shows one capture from 2011 when the house was still pink frozen in time. Such a shame a pretty house was repainted :(
Location 4 - restaurant and DOGGONE IT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoyo sits on the bench, reads a paper, and has a little dance break in front of these 2 buildings on a which are 3 stores. The restaurant is now 2 separate stores, a pet salon and a framing shop. Doggone it is a clothing store now.
Location 5 Ye olde donut shoppee
Tumblr media
So this is the one I have no ideas about, reverse image search didn’t give me a clue and i took a street view tour around the area but did not find a matching building so this ones odd so please if anyone can find it let me know.
Location 6 - Chillis Delli
Tumblr media
The location Yoyo passes but waits to cross the street is actually a restaurant so its not too off.
Bonus thing! - Hallmark location
Tumblr media
While researching the street I viewed old videos touring the area and had stumbled upon an old hallmark store there on the street. So I believe this may have something to do with the connection to Hallmark and Softee idk thats just my theory.
This has been a very long and big project post when it wasn't supposed to be, however the questions keeps piling and I enjoyed researching for this one. Next post may not be as long but will still have lots to it.

Webb proves galaxies transformed the early universe In the early universe, the gas between stars and galaxies was opaque – energetic starlight could not penetrate it. But 1 billion years after the big bang, the gas had become completely transparent. Why? New data from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has pinpointed the reason: The galaxies’ stars emitted enough light to heat and ionize the gas around them, clearing our collective view over hundreds of millions of years. The results, from a research team led by Simon Lilly of ETH Zürich in Switzerland, are the newest insights about a time period known as the Era of Reionization, when the universe underwent dramatic changes. After the big bang, gas in the universe was incredibly hot and dense. Over hundreds of millions of years, the gas cooled. Then, the universe hit “repeat.” The gas again became hot and ionized – likely due to the formation of early stars in galaxies, and over millions of years, became transparent. Researchers have long sought definitive evidence to explain these transformations. The new results effectively pull back the curtain at the end of this reionization period. “Not only does Webb clearly show that these transparent regions are found around galaxies, we’ve also measured how large they are,” explained Daichi Kashino of Nagoya University in Japan, the lead author of the team’s first paper. “With Webb’s data, we are seeing galaxies reionize the gas around them.” These regions of transparent gas are gigantic compared to the galaxies – imagine a hot air balloon with a pea suspended inside. Webb’s data shows that these relatively tiny galaxies drove reionization, clearing massive regions of space around them. Over the next hundred million years, these transparent “bubbles” continued to grow larger and larger, eventually merging and causing the entire universe to become transparent. Lilly’s team intentionally targeted a time just before the end of the Era of Reionization, when the universe was not quite clear and not quite opaque – it contained a patchwork of gas in various states. Scientists aimed Webb in the direction of a quasar – an extremely luminous active supermassive black hole that acts like an enormous flashlight – highlighting the gas between the quasar and our telescopes. (Find it at the center of this view: It is tiny and pink with six prominent diffraction spikes.) As the quasar’s light traveled toward us through different patches of gas, it was either absorbed by gas that was opaque or moved freely through transparent gas. The team’s groundbreaking results were only possible by pairing Webb’s data with observations of the central quasar from the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii, and the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope and the Magellan Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, both in Chile. “By illuminating gas along our line of sight, the quasar gives us extensive information about the composition and state of the gas,” explained Anna-Christina Eilers of MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the lead author of another team paper. The researchers then used Webb to identify galaxies near this line of sight and showed that the galaxies are generally surrounded by transparent regions about 2 million light-years in radius. In other words, Webb witnessed galaxies in the process of clearing the space around them at the end of the Era of Reionization. To put this in perspective, the area these galaxies have cleared is approximately the same distance as the space between our Milky Way galaxy and our nearest neighbor, Andromeda. Until now, researchers didn’t have this definitive evidence of what caused reionization – before Webb, they weren’t certain precisely what was responsible. What do these galaxies look like? “They are more chaotic than those in the nearby universe,” explained Jorryt Matthee, also of ETH Zürich and the lead author of the team’s second paper. “Webb shows they were actively forming stars and must have been shooting off many supernovae. They had quite an adventurous youth!” Along the way, Eilers used Webbs data to confirm that the black hole in the quasar at the center of this field is the most massive currently known in the early universe, weighing 10 billion times the mass of the Sun. “We still can’t explain how quasars were able to grow so large so early in the history of the universe,” she shared. “That’s another puzzle to solve!” The exquisite images from Webb also revealed no evidence that the light from the quasar had been gravitationally lensed, ensuring that the mass measurements are definitive. The team will soon dive into research about galaxies in five additional fields, each anchored by a central quasar. Webb’s results from the first field were so overwhelmingly clear that they couldn’t wait to share them. “We expected to identify a few dozen galaxies that existed during the Era of Reionization – but were easily able to pick out 117,” Kashino explained. “Webb has exceeded our expectations.” Lilly’s research team, the Emission-line galaxies and Intergalactic Gas in the Epoch of Reionization (EIGER), have demonstrated the unique power of combining conventional images from Webb's NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) with data from the same instrument's wide-field slitless spectroscopy mode, which gives a spectrum of every object in the images – turning Webb into what the team calls a “spectacular spectroscopic redshift machine.” The team’s first publications include “EIGER I. a large sample of [O iii]-emitting galaxies at 5.3

Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram?
What is Blog?
A programmer called Peter Merholz abbreviated the term “weblog” to “blog” in 1999 (Goldstein, 2009).A blog is similar to an online journal or diary where bloggers can express their ideas, views, and emotions throughout time. However, blogs can sometimes seen as contentious. There are several blogging platforms like Tumblr, and Medium. It is simple to build and maintain a blog. Once registered, bloggers can begin to write any content. Bloggers can add links, GIFs, and images to improve their blog’s quality.
In my perspective, blogging is still important in the era of TikTok and Instagram and will keep on being a vital component of social media today, with distinct roles in fostering sociality and community-building. To figure this out, it is crucial to explore the nuances of Blogging, TikTok, and Instagram.
Blogs give writers the opportunity to dive deeply into topics, add context, and present complex opinions (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023). Additionally, blogs may be searched and archived, which makes them useful as databases of information on certain topics.
TikTok enables users to view, create, and share videos online (D’Souza, 2023). According to Al-Maroof et al. (2021), TikTok has become a popular application with a micro-video function.
Instagram’s popularity has skyrocketed, and it has 1 billion active users per month, which enables users to upload photos and videos (Faelens et al., 2021).
Blog: Nurturing Digital Communities, Promoting Sociality in Public Sphere
Blogs can help foster the growth of digital communities. On the other hand, individuals can utilize blogs to position themselves as an authority in their particular fields. They enable knowledge and ideas exchange, which helps build a loyal readership. Blogs can also build online communities centered on particular topics or pastimes where participants converse and argue, contributing to the public sphere in their particular fields. Additionally, commenting on blogs enables readers to participate in conversations and interact with bloggers and other readers. TikTok and Instagram also promote sociality, yet in distinct methods, as they prioritize immediate interactions. For example, uploading short video clips and images, which is more to keep users’ attention. In short, TikTok and Instagram may be ephemeral, but the notion of a blogging community may be more profound and involved (Yessenova, 2016).
Besides, blogging creates networked publics around mutual passions and conversations. These networked publics were frequently dispersed and facilitated in-depth discussions. The fast-paced structure of short-form content also builds networked publics on TikTok and Instagram; however, the interactions are fragmentary and transitory (Liu et al., 2022).
Tumblr media
Blogging in Political Sphere
A blog can garner attention and have a significant impact on people when it deals with hot-button political topics. The political parties have extensively exploited blogs and social media platforms in their schemes and initiatives since the first strategically focused political blog, Howard Dean’s ‘Blog for America’ was built in 2003 (Villar et al., 2017). A blog’s ability to impact political participation will increase with how valuable it is seen. Furthermore, blog content can be easy to search throughout time (Morris, 2023). They have an enduring online presence. In contrast, content posted on TikTok and Instagram may be ephemeral and more difficult to find when it vanishes from a user’s stream.
Tumblr media
Emotional Resonance in Blogging
A blog frequently serves as a kind of public journal, collecting unfiltered feelings and comprehensive narration. Longer-form emotional expression enables more in-depth contemplation and understanding. This can be called as “Emotional Resonance”. The expression of emotions in blogs may make it easier to enter social networks by spurring more comments and similar sentiments from blog audiences, which is a step toward connection and understanding (Hine et al., 2019). Since TikTok and Instagram place an emphasis on visual, brief content that appeals to immediate viewing habits, it may be more difficult to establish a deeper feeling of connection with readers on these platforms. When compared to more extensive, more complicated blog postings, this structure may restrict how deeply and intricately emotions are expressed. Although a TikTok video or an Instagram story may have an instant effect, blog pieces consistently have more lasting value and reverberation. In addition, blogs are designed to hear varied views. TikTok and Instagram’s algorithms could generate echo chambers that favour particular content. (Altered State, 2023). Consequently, there will be group polarization and misunderstanding.
Tumblr media
In my perspective, blogging is still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram, particularly for community-building, participation in the political sphere, and emotional resonance. Hence, the practice of blogging should remain relevant in the ever-evolving digital environment due to its long tradition of in-depth information.

Helios Rising Heroes - Rise on GoldenXXSection
Chapter 3:
Tumblr media
Akira: Haah~~~....I sure worked up a good sweat~
Dino: Adequate breaks are important to a good rehearsal. Make sure to stay hydrated.
Akira: Yeah—
Asch: ……….
Tumblr media
Dino: Hm? What’s up, Asch? Is it your turn on the bad mood ?
Asch: Don’t group me with that kid.
Dino: But, you look like you’re in a bad mood,.... what’s up with that?
Asch: …..It’s about that commercial. Looks like it was just released.
Dino: Could it be that they actually used our song in that commercial?
Asch: It’s been less than 10 minutes since release, and the number of views is insane. Social media’s also buzzing with it.
Asch: And the song used was from “LILIAN”.
Tumblr media
Dino: ……!
Akira: Lillion?
Asch: LILIAN. Don’t say it like it’s million or billion.*
Akira: Ooh, that’s MC Asch for ya.
Asch: Aah?
Dino: As expected……
Asch: Oi, what are you saying—
Dino: This is about LILIAN.
Asch: …..!
Dino: Catchy tunes and outstanding vocals. But more than that, songs worth listening to…….
Dino: I’m definitely convinced this is the right song for this particular commercial.
Asch: Oi, Why are you saying that like you’re admitting defeat?
Dino: No, but……
Akira: …..They’re good.
Akira: Who are these guys? Are they famous?
Tumblr media
Asch: On the other side, how don’t you know them?
Dino: LILIAN is an idol duo that debuted around three months ago, and have gotten popular really quickly.
Dino: However, they haven’t actually face-revealed, and are said to be pretty mysterious.
Akira: They haven’t shown their faces? You mean they got popular from their singing alone?
Dino: Something like that.
Akira: ………..
Dino: They’re really good at online promotion, and even if they don’t appear on music shows or even magazines, they’ve become something of a household name.
Tumblr media
Asch: This isn’t the kind of era where quantity of exposure equates to popularity.
Asch: But these guys don’t show their faces, even at live performances, right? They just use images and silhouettes.
Dino: It seems so. It’s become a conspiracy at this point as to whether they truly exist or not, but I think it’s also that kind of mysterious feeling that’s made them so popular.
Dino: Many of the songs lean into that, and their overall brand image is very solid. How should I say this….it seems like they have a skilled producer.
Asch: They’re managed by the TALON agency. It certainly seems like they’d have capable people over there.
Akira: ………..
Tumblr media
Dino: From Akira’s perspective, LILIAN’s probably pretty incredible, huh.
Akira: ……Yeah.
Akira: But, it feels weird to call these guys idols.
Tumblr media
Dino&Asch: …………
Akira: It feels wrong to call people idols when you don’t even know if they exist.**
Akira: And on that end, we definitely got that part right.
Dino: Now that you say it….sharing your personal side via TV and magazines is important, alongside meeting fans face-to-face in live performances and events.
Akira: Yeah, yeah!
Asch: They can’t predict if it will stay mainstream.
Asch: In the end, it’s all determined by the fans. If more fans are drawn to them, then their method is right, simple as that.
Asch: Well, even if someone tried to imitate them, it probably wouldn’t have quite the same flavor.
Tumblr media
Akira&Dino: ………….
Asch: W-what the hell….don’t give me those faces. You look like kicked puppies.
Akira: Let’s get back to rehearsal woof…….***
Akira: Woof…..I can’t lose woof…..
Asch: Sigh……
Prev || Masterlist || Next
TL Note:
1. *Asch is actually saying here not to compare it to bean paste, because the romaji [ririan] when mispronounced by Akira sounds like [tsubuan] and [koshian] which are two ways to prepare red bean paste. But the general gist is that Akira mispronounces it and Asch corrects him, so I adapted it for English.  2. **boy have you heard of hatsune miku 3. ***YEAH HES FUCKING BARKING WHILE GIVING A PUPPY FACE. THATS MY PUPPY DOG. coughs. Anyways, yeah he’s saying “wan” after every phrase here, “wan” being the barking onomatopoeia in Japanese.

Crowdsourcing: not a new concept
Tumblr media
what is crowdsourcing?
By using the Internet, social media, and smartphone apps, a huge number of individuals can contribute their work, information, or opinions through a process known as crowdsourcing.
While some crowdsourcing participants carry out menial jobs willingly, others work as paid freelancers. For instance, in order to give app users access to up-to-date, real-time information, traffic applications such as Waze incentivize drivers to self-report accidents and other traffic occurrences. (Hargrave, 2022) Crowdsourcing is a collaborative approach that involves sourcing information, ideas, or services from a wide and diverse group of individuals, known as the "crowd." This decentralized method relies on the collective intelligence and varied expertise of contributors, often facilitated through online platforms. Crowdsourcing is characterized by an open call for participation, inviting individuals to provide solutions, ideas, or content to address specific challenges or tasks.
Tumblr media
Crowdsourcing in crisis
Amid the global, ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, among the tireless work of health care workers, policy makers, and government officials across various nations, there is another player with “skin in the game” if you will—crowdsourcing projects. Crowdsourcing is a model whereby individuals or organizations obtain goods and services, including ideas, from a large, relatively open community of digital media, Internet users, and an entire array of diverse stakeholders sharing a common interest from a range of perspectives and experiences.1 Although crowdsourcing originated long before the advent of digital age, in the current era of social media and other digital outlets, crowdsourcing has become a fairly commonplace solution. (Desai, 2020) Crowdsourcing in health and medical mostly started in the bioinformatics and technology fields about 2010. Its broad usefulness in disaster crisis management has, however, mostly gone unutilized. We address the ongoing and present uses of crowdsourcing in the COVID-19 era from this point of view. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has infected > 5 million people worldwide and caused > 330,000 deaths at the time of this writing, is no less than a disaster crisis, albeit biological. A disaster life cycle consists of the steps taken in planning for and responding to a particular disaster (Fig 1). This disaster cycle is used throughout the emergency management community, from the local to the national and international levels. We saw similar disaster mitigation (social distancing), preparedness (quarantine restrictions), response (masking), and recovery efforts during the 1918-1920 seasonal H1N1 flu pandemic. (Kuderer, 2020)
Community for creatives
Crowdsourcing funding for projects, businesses, and causes is expected to grow to be a $300 billion industry in the near future, according to estimations made by the crowdfunding trends blog Fundly. In 2017, Stanford University student Nicholas Benavides, the creator of the Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition for Students, conducted an analysis of over 2,000 Kickstarter project data to identify the elements of a successful crowdfunding campaign. Benavides surveying the terms used in a campaign's title and blurb using the Kaggle Kickstarter dataset developed a model that could predict a campaign's success with 75% accuracy. (Sickler, 2020) Among his major findings was that the most common words–game, new, design, world–appeared equally in both funded and unfunded campaigns. The major point of differentiation was not in word choice but between those categories inherently more social in nature, such as Comics, Dance, Music, Theater and Design, and solo practices like Craft and Journalism. Social categories were simply a more natural fit for the success criteria of crowdfunding.
Role of crowdsourcing in Web3
Crowdsourcing in Web3 refers to the decentralised process of obtaining goods or services from a large, undefined group of people via the internet, rather than from traditional employees or suppliers. The role of crowdsourcing in Web3 is to empower individuals and communities to collaborate and contribute their skills, knowledge, and resources to create and maintain decentralised applications and services that are more equitable, transparent, and secure. This can lead to increased innovation, collaboration, and democratisation in the development and deployment of new technologies, as well as in the creation of new forms of governance and value exchange. (Reffell, 2023)
Crowdsourcing in Web3 examples:-
DAOs: Decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) are organisations that are run through rules encoded as computer programs on a blockchain network. DAOs are governed by their members, who vote on proposals and make decisions collectively. Examples of DAOs include MakerDAO and Aragon.
Prediction Markets: Prediction markets are decentralised platforms that allow users to make predictions on the outcome of events and earn rewards for accurate predictions. Examples of prediction markets include Augur and Gnosis
Decentralised Exchanges (DEXs): Decentralised exchanges are platforms for trading cryptocurrencies and tokens without the need for a central authority or intermediaries. Examples of DEXs include Uniswap and Curve.
Decentralised Identity Systems: Decentralised identity systems are platforms that allow users to control and manage their personal information and data, rather than relying on central authorities or intermediaries. Examples of decentralised identity systems include Sovrin and uPort.
In conclusion, by utilising the combined knowledge of many participants, crowdsourcing has the potential to revolutionise creativity and problem-solving. Its capacity to combine a variety of viewpoints and abilities not only encourages innovation but also offers an economical way to address difficult problems. Its attractiveness stems from the speed at which solutions are generated and the active participation of communities, which fosters the growth of unorthodox ideas. But obstacles like upholding quality control and handling moral issues like equitable recompense and privacy issues highlight the necessity of cautious execution. With the integration of intelligent algorithms and automation in technology, crowdsourcing looks to have a bright future ahead of it, providing even more effective and significant collaboration in a variety of disciplines.

Euclid mission releases its first images
The Euclid mission, which will investigate the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy, released its first five science images Tuesday, Nov. 7. The observatory, led by ESA (European Space Agency) with NASA contributions, is scheduled to begin regular science operations in early 2024.
The new images include views of a large cluster of thousands of distant galaxies, close-ups of two nearby galaxies, a gravitationally bound group of stars called a globular cluster, and a nebula (a cloud of gas and dust in space where stars form)—all depicted in vibrant colors.
"The Euclid observatory will uncover a treasure trove of scientific discoveries that will be used across the world, including by U.S. scientists, for years to come," said Nicola Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
"Together, NASA and ESA are paving the way for a new era of cosmology for NASA's forthcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which will build upon what Euclid learns and will additionally survey objects on the outskirts of our solar system, discover thousands of new planets, explore nearby galaxies, and more."
Euclid launched on July 1 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, then traveled nearly 1 million miles to its vantage point. Following a period of commissioning (testing of the instruments and other components), the space telescope is performing as expected.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California delivered critical hardware for one of the Euclid spacecraft's instruments. In addition, NASA has established a U.S.-based Euclid science data center, and NASA science teams will join other Euclid scientists in studying dark energy, galaxy evolution, and dark matter.
The agency's Nancy Grace Roman mission will also study dark energy—in ways that are complementary to Euclid. Mission planners will use Euclid's findings to inform Roman's dark energy work.
Surveying the dark universe
During its planned six-year mission, Euclid will produce the most extensive 3D map of the universe yet, covering nearly one-third of the sky and containing billions of galaxies up to 10 billion light-years away from Earth.
To do this, Euclid needs a wide field of view, which enabled these new images covering a relatively large area. In this way, Euclid differs from targeted observatories like NASA's James Webb Space Telescope that focus on a smaller area of the sky at any one time but typically offer higher-resolution images. Wide-field observatories like Euclid can observe large sections of the sky much faster than targeted telescopes. In addition, Euclid has high resolution compared to previous survey missions, which means it will be able to see more galaxies in each image than previous telescopes.
For example, Euclid's wide view was able to capture the entirety of the Perseus galaxy cluster, and many galaxies beyond it, in just one image. Located 240 million light-years from Earth, Perseus is among the most massive structures known in the universe. Euclid's full survey will ultimately cover an area 30,000 times larger than this image.
The telescope's survey approach is necessary to study dark energy, the mysterious driver behind our universe's accelerating expansion. While gravity should pull everything in the universe together, everything is instead moving apart faster and faster. "Dark energy" is the term scientists use for this unexplained expansion.
To study the phenomenon, scientists will map the presence of another cosmic mystery, dark matter. This invisible substance can be observed only by its gravitational effect on "regular" matter and objects around it, like stars, galaxies, and planets.
Dark matter is five times more common in the cosmos than regular matter, so if dark energy's expansive influence on the universe has changed over time, the change should be recorded in how dark matter is distributed on large scales across the universe, and Euclid's 3D map should capture it.
"Euclid's first images mark the beginning of a new era of studying dark matter and dark energy," said Mike Seiffert, Euclid project scientist at JPL. "This is the first space telescope dedicated to dark universe studies, and the sheer scale of the data we're going to get out of this will be unlike anything we've had before. These are big mysteries, so it's exciting for the international cosmology community to see this day finally arrive."
NASA's Roman mission will study a smaller section of sky than Euclid, but it will provide higher-resolution images of hundreds of millions of galaxies and peer deeper into the universe's past, providing complementary information. Scheduled to launch by May 2027.
The data from the new Euclid images is now available to the scientific community, and scientific papers analyzing that data are expected to follow. As the mission progresses, Euclid's bank of data will grow. New batches will be released once per year and will be available to the global scientific community via the Astronomy Science Archives hosted at ESA's European Space Astronomy Centre in Spain.
