Hey guys, sorry I've been a bit inactive this week! Having one of those (very expensive) 'everything is going wrong' weeks, and one of those things is Polka deciding to turn his heel into a pork knuckle! Ugh! 🤦🏼‍♀️ It always happens all at once, lol. Phoenix 🔥 . Two posts in two days, who dis!? 😂 . Another day in iso with beautiful weather and kids napping during the day - so I couldn't possibly pass up the opportunity to take my boy for another spin! . Today we did a bit more of the rhythm and suppling/stretching work that we played around with yesterday. As I was riding today, I got a song stuck in my head from my Dads favourite artist, and I found it was a great match for Phoenix's trot - so I kept him going in time with it, and he produced some really lovely work! 😍 . Thats my little go-to hack with flatwork, get a good song stuck in your head and ride to it 😂👌 My arena paddock is on a little slope, so it's a good challenge for both horse and rider to keep the rhythm consistent; not rushing down the hill, or running out of steam going up! . We did some changes of direction, keeping our rhythm, and even added some lateral steps, making the circle bigger or smaller as we went. He even offered me a lovely canter going both ways, staying soft and settled the whole time, too. He was an absolute super star, I really can't fault him 🥰🌟 . I think I fall even more in love with this horse every time I ride him, he really is something else! Looking forward to giving him a pamper and a day off work tomorrow, definitely needs a wash so we can think about giving him a haircut soon 🥰 . Phoenix 🔥 . Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well! . We've had a quiet few weeks here while I've been getting my health back on track; long story sort, the supplements I was given made me sick, so we're trying another approach with a few diet changes, and so far so good! 👌 . I've been sleeping better, and I've found that with higher energy levels, I'm able to sustain a few workouts per week - something that I've been really missing. . Today I pulled Phoenie bean out of the paddock for a ride, and as always he was a superstar! 🌟 We did a bit of what we worked on last ride; lots of stretching, and getting him soft, bendy, and forward. I felt stronger through my core as well from my gym time, so I feel like we're both in a really good spot at the moment! . Iso isn't so bad when you live on acres, so I'm hoping to get a few rides in this week while we're home, and the weather is reasonably nice 🥰 . Phoenix 🔥 . Hi everyone, hope you're all going great! . I managed to sneak a ride in today in between school drop off, swimming lessons, and mothers day shopping. Absolutely blowing a gale here, but that didn't stop us 😁 . Today we got out in the arena paddock and had a really good play, we're doing lots of suppling work at the moment, getting him sharper off my leg, softening him through the body, and also getting him straighter down the long side as well. . He's the sort of horse who feels like he's going faster than he is, he's definitely a 'bigger moving' horse! I need to make sure to always keep him forward, which will also keep him straight while we're getting the balance thing nutted out. . Continuing on with my work in the gym will be of great benefit to us both, my poor tummy muscles were really feeling it by the time we finished our ride! 😂 . Hopefully I can get him out for some lessons asap, I really love working with this boy, he's an absolute sweetheart and he genuinely tries so hard. Even in the wind today I couldn't fault him. Phoenix 🔥 . Hi everyone, it's been a minute! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . Sorry for my absence from the 'gram, I've been out of action with a blood disorder - which also explains my crappy immune system. I'm on some supplements to help, and so far I'm already feeling much better, so full steam ahead! . Phoenix has been in work from the ground over the past few weeks, and already showing lots of improvement - one of which is a good increase in muscle mass 💪 . He's in a new saddle, a lovely P.H liberty dressage which seems to fit us both comfortably. I'm in the process of organising a saddle fitter to double check it for us, and over the next couple of weeks he'll see our dentist and bodyworker, so we'll be all systems go 🥰 . Tonight I start back in the gym to get my core sorted out, and I'll be starting some stretching and yoga to straighten me back out a bit, especially to loosen my hip flexors back up again. . Phoenix 🔥 . Look at that face... Is he not the cutest! 🥰 This week the big guy has been getting all the attention, but to be honest I think he enjoys it. . We finally got that mane tamed; he wasn't thrilled about it being played with initially, but we managed to get it trimmed up, thinned out, and looking nice again with a little reassurance. The following day he stood like an angel for me to put some braids in to train it to lay on the one side. It was nice to get a bit of practice as I'm terrible at plaiting horses up - something to work on this year, I think! . The last few days we've been working on getting him to soften down and stretch in his work - something he took to pretty quickly. You can really tell when an ott has had a bit of dressage work put in, he really is so lovely and kind to ride! We introduced trot poles, and he had so much fun jumping them 😂🙈 He eventually got the 'trot' part of the memo, and was a total rockstar after that. . Phoenix 🔥 . Hi everyone, 🙋🏼‍♀️ Hope you're all well! . Sorry I haven't been on much this week- still sick as a dog with this rotten cold, I seriously have the worst immune system ever 😫 . The horses have been ticking along well behind the scenes, and today Jay offered to take some video for me, so just for something different - I actually have some photos of me ON a horse 😂 . Phoenix is doing great under saddle, today I rode in 25kph winds and he didn't bat an eye, just rolled on like he always does. Today we had a good play with the canter, and doing a bit of leg yielding in and out of the circle, and transitions within the trot. He's starting to become quite adjustable, and that will only get better as we build his strength and balance up 💪 . This week's goals for him are introducing trot poles, and doing a bit of long and low. I'll be hitting the gym as well starting tonight to strengthen my back and core up a bit more. I got a bit lazy with it for a while, and getting back on a horse with big paces is very telling as far as rider fitness is concerned! 😂 . I absolutely love this horse, and cant wait for get our tow car back in a few weeks so we can start getting out and about. Phoenix 🔥 . Hi everyone! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Hope you're all doing great! . I've had an unplanned hiatus over the last couple of weeks due to sickness and a stupid injury; I thought I'd broken my finger, but turns out I'd only jarred the hell out of 2 joints (both PIP and MCP) - why bother doing things by halves, hey? 😂💁🏼‍♀️ I'm still slightly out of action with my poor hand, but that rotten cold is on its home stretch, thankfully! . This morning I got up, armed with a box of tissues and a coffee, and got two of our lovely thoroughbreds out for a work in the round yard. I don't have the grip to hold a lunge line at the moment, so it seemed like the perfect solution 🤗 . Both worked beautifully, just doing some stretching in the trot, and a few steps of canter, just to see where they were at with it. It's such a pleasure working with these sweet boys, they are both absolute gentleman 💕 . Barney will be coming in today or tomorrow for a lunge as well; I'm absolutely spewing I couldn't do a follow up after our ride the other day, but really looking forward to jumping back on my favourite little red pony again soon 🥰 . Barney 🦄 . 3 posts in 3 days - who dis!? 😂🙋🏼‍♀️ . Little Barnabas, what a journey we've had so far... Its hard to believe this was the pony who wouldn't even let me pat him on the neck - sometimes I couldn't even walk up to him in the paddock. . Today we ripped the bandaid off and I got on him for the first time ever, and he was amazing. I could tell he was quite worried, but he stood like a good boy. . He got a bit of a fright when Jay led him off - but we tried again and he settled quite quickly. It's been a few years since I've been given a led pony ride on one this little! 💕 . Phoenix 🔥 . Aw Phoenie Boop, the fave, the big red ferrari 💕 It's been so nice to get cracking with this gorgeous boy again! What a crazy few months of ups and downs it's been for us, but we're back in action again after having most of Dec and Jan off. Not his fault; just us working lots of overtime and then getting through Christmas, Mia's birthday and prepping for that, getting Ella set for school, picking up our car, and (on the same bloody day my new car came home) getting the other one off to the mechanic needing a whole new engine! . Adulting is fun isn't it, haha 🙈 . Without the struggles we wouldn't appreciate the triumphs would we? 💁🏼‍♀️ It's all a lesson in how to pick yourself up and soldier on, and make time for the things that are important to you - and for me, after family, that's definitely my horses 🏇 . With Bonsey now in full work thanks to my early starts, I've been alternating between Phoenix and Barney during the day to keep them both ticking along behind the scenes, and just enjoying spending time with them, too 🥰 . Barney 🦄 . Hey there everyone, happy new year! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . I need to start posting more often, so I don't have a novel-sized chunk of news to share 😂 . January has been nuts here, my youngest daughter Mia turned 1 and had a birthday party with family, I finally picked up my new car, and now we're getting Ella ready to start school! In between that I've been back to spend time with family in Melbourne, and have started doing a bit of journalling and goal setting work - something that was a big new years resolution of mine 💕 . Barney and Bonsey are back in work and so far haven't missed a beat. Bonesy has been doing a bit of conditioning work to build his muscles up, and Barney has been doing a bit of desensitising, and work in the round pen. . Phoenix will be back in this week as well, he's looking great on his new diet, and now that Ella is heading off to school - I'll actually have time to exercise horses! 😂 . I'm looking forward to getting it all rolling again, getting up that bit earlier and managing my time a bit better around the kids - another thing I'm working on this year 💪 . Phoenix and Ella 🥰 . Hey there everyone, hope you're well! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a bit of a quiet week here - a week of rain, the return of the mud, the back yard flooding (and consequently turning our tap water a delightful shade of brown) and the third reschedule of our concrete due to wet weather, ugh! 🙈 . Usually my gumboots are packed away by this time of the year and all the horses are in work, but I can't even get the one going... Jay, We need an arena! 😂🙏 . We have our concrete man coming to assess the ground for us on the weekend so we can re-book him, and in the meanwhile it's just been doing the odd bit of groundwork with the horses to keep them ticking along 🏇 . My best session this week was with Barney, who gets a bit anxious sometimes. I wasn't planning on working him - I was actually just going to pop him in the yard so I could give Bonsey a work, but when he decided to fly through the yard gate at a million miles per hour - well, I can't leave a problem unsolved 😂 . We practiced point and send through, disengage and wait, but he kept wanting to rush back in. I never asked him to stop, just kept sending him back to where I wanted him, and he was allowed to rest there if he'd like. We eventually had the lightbulb moment, his head dropped, and he started licking and chewing 👏 . Then we did some desensitising with the rope, which was good. Did some more until his back stopped twitching, which was also good, and then again to get the head to drop - and eventually we got there, along with a big sigh and more licking and chewing. . I'm not sure why he was so worried today, but just goes to show that it doesn't always go to plan with horses, and you can only work with what you've got on the day. They sure are great teachers of patience! 💕 .
