Barney 🦄 . Hey there everyone, happy new year! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . I need to start posting more often, so I don't have a novel-sized chunk of news to share 😂 . January has been nuts here, my youngest daughter Mia turned 1 and had a birthday party with family, I finally picked up my new car, and now we're getting Ella ready to start school! In between that I've been back to spend time with family in Melbourne, and have started doing a bit of journalling and goal setting work - something that was a big new years resolution of mine 💕 . Barney and Bonsey are back in work and so far haven't missed a beat. Bonesy has been doing a bit of conditioning work to build his muscles up, and Barney has been doing a bit of desensitising, and work in the round pen. . Phoenix will be back in this week as well, he's looking great on his new diet, and now that Ella is heading off to school - I'll actually have time to exercise horses! 😂 . I'm looking forward to getting it all rolling again, getting up that bit earlier and managing my time a bit better around the kids - another thing I'm working on this year 💪 . Phoenix and Ella 🥰 . Hey there everyone, hope you're well! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a bit of a quiet week here - a week of rain, the return of the mud, the back yard flooding (and consequently turning our tap water a delightful shade of brown) and the third reschedule of our concrete due to wet weather, ugh! 🙈 . Usually my gumboots are packed away by this time of the year and all the horses are in work, but I can't even get the one going... Jay, We need an arena! 😂🙏 . We have our concrete man coming to assess the ground for us on the weekend so we can re-book him, and in the meanwhile it's just been doing the odd bit of groundwork with the horses to keep them ticking along 🏇 . My best session this week was with Barney, who gets a bit anxious sometimes. I wasn't planning on working him - I was actually just going to pop him in the yard so I could give Bonsey a work, but when he decided to fly through the yard gate at a million miles per hour - well, I can't leave a problem unsolved 😂 . We practiced point and send through, disengage and wait, but he kept wanting to rush back in. I never asked him to stop, just kept sending him back to where I wanted him, and he was allowed to rest there if he'd like. We eventually had the lightbulb moment, his head dropped, and he started licking and chewing 👏 . Then we did some desensitising with the rope, which was good. Did some more until his back stopped twitching, which was also good, and then again to get the head to drop - and eventually we got there, along with a big sigh and more licking and chewing. . I'm not sure why he was so worried today, but just goes to show that it doesn't always go to plan with horses, and you can only work with what you've got on the day. They sure are great teachers of patience! 💕 . Barney 🦄 . Hey there everyone, hope you're all doing great! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a busy few days here - I survived pfizer shot number 2 with only a day out of action, and got straight back into it yesterday, only a bit sore and sluggish 💪 . Bonesy's had a ride and 2 sessions on the lunge so far, and he's slowly finding his way out of holiday mode 😁 Once I have my spotter home again during the day I'll be jumping back on - but work on the ground is still going to get him fit, balanced, and keeping that brain ticking along. . Barney's had a groundwork bootcamp this week and has been coming along in leaps and bounds. I honestly couldn't be prouder of him, he's a different pony 💕 Lots of sensitising and desensitising, sending him off QUIETLY with a point both ways (this is a huge deal as he used to love to bugger off 😂) and disengaging both the hind, and the fore. I've been doing some lateral flexion in the halter, and he's proving to be very soft. Hopefully I can get on him within the next week or two - whenever Jay has a few days off in a row to help me with the last little bit of the work. . Phoenix has been continuing on with groundwork and going great, super excited to get on him, too! . So nice to see the sun out, and the mud finally drying up; we've had to postpone our concreter twice now, so hopefully if this lovely weather continues I'll have another exciting farm update for you all soon! 🏇 . Barney 🦄 . Look at this little superstar go! 🌟 So proud of Barney today having his first ever lunge off the bit. What a huge night and day difference to how he usually goes in the halter 😂🙈 . We ventured outside of the round yard today as well - another big exciting first, and this will mean we can step his workload up. As you can see the round yard is looking pretty muddy and sloppy, so it's a relief to have that big space in the arena paddock to do some work with him. . I picked up a girth for him, and his little saddle now has stirrups on, so now it's full steam ahead, and pony bootcamp has officially begun 💪 . This week has been a busy one at home, looooads of week spraying (I'm going to have shoulders like hulk hogan, lol) Fixing fences, washing rugs, having rugs repaired, striking tree cuttings, and mowing. I just love springtime 🥰 . This week will see Bonesy coming back into work as well, and in the meantime we're getting a saddle sorted for Phoenix. Barney 🦄 . Little Barnabus, our cheeky little monkey - how can you not love that face!? 😂 He's gone from being a spooky, frightened little thing to a total sticky beak - have a go at him needing to supervise Jay fixing the gate! . 7 more days till spring, guys - who else has been counting down with me? It's been so cold, wet, and muddy here, but we've had a few gorgeous sunny days in between which have been SO nice 😍 . This time of year is a busy one at home for us, on the nice days in between watching the kids, there's been a big rug 'stocktake', new rugs ordered for Phoenix, weeds sprayed, fences fixed, more sightwire replaced, rugs/halters/leads washed, tress planted, and a shed clean out. So therapeutic! . We have some more sunny days next week, which will mean more weed spraying, and once those paddocks have sat for a few weeks we can rotate all the horses, and spray the rest. In the meantime I'm looking forward to getting my fences painted, electrics installed on the yards, and our next big outdoor project built 🥰 . Bring on warm weather and no more mud - once the round yard is firm enough to ride on, we'll get the little guy broken in, and our beautiful OTT boys Bonesy and Phoenix will come into work. Barney 🦄 . Hey everyone! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I feel like we're back in the land of the living again after those last few weeks 😂 . In between having the carpet ripped up in the house, sleeping in the lounge room for 3 weeks, and dealing with blackouts, storms, and floods - things are staaaaarting to feel normal again 🙌 . This week was so lovely and refreshing - we had a visit from Mum, had the carpet relayed and got our bedroom back, and the horses had their teeth done. Turns out Barney is 4, turning 5 this year - so only a year out from our original guess, and the perfect age for starting under saddle 🥰 . Today he wore his first bit and bridle after weeks and weeks of desensitising those little ears. I'm so proud of him, and after all the work we've done, bridling was no big deal 💕 He was such a good boy, happy for the bridle to be put on and taken off, and wasn't fussed at all by the bit- just stood and gave it a good old chew. Little superstar 🌟 . Today was winter solstice, so from here on out the days will start getting longer - it's no secret how much I dislike the cold and wet 😂🙈 Only 72 days till spring, yay!! . Barney 🦄 . First of all - happy mothers day to all the Mums, Grandmothers, Mothers to be, and any special people out there raising kiddos! Hope you all had a wonderful day and got spoiled rotten 💐 . I had a lovely day; started with a sleep in, then a yummy veggie fry up for breakky - mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, hash browns, and avo on toast (my fave thing), and then pressies from Jay and my girls. SO spoiled! 😍 . We then headed out for the horse jobs - day yard muck out, gave hay, morning feeds, and made up the afternoon feeds. . While the weather was nice I got Barney in for a big brush (omething he's slowly learning to enjoy) and decided to see how he'd go being saddled up. It was like we'd done it 100 times, he was such a good little guy! 🌟 I gave him a spin around the round yard and went through our hooking on routine, and he didn't miss a beat; moving out with a point, drawing in, change of direction, everything. . I'm so impressed by this little fella, and genuinely love working with him. I'm really excited to see him under saddle, I think he's going to be super 😍 . Barney banana 🦄 . It's been a hot minute since our last Barney update, so here I am catching up! 😁 The little guy's had a good week, he had a few days off as we were flat out doing works around the farm - fixing fences, harrowing, mowing, and all the things that need to happen on acres. . Ella chose a rug for him, which arrived just a couple of days after ordering - huge thank you to @ridelosaddlery on eBay who we buy all our winter rugs from! 👌 . Barney's never worn a rug before, and his reaction to this big purple thing was just as I thought it'd be - WTH is THAT!? 😂 We did a bit of desensitising with it, and after a few minutes of persuasading he let me fling it over him. It's not sitting in the right spot in that first photo as you can probably tell, but once we settled it, it fit him brilliantly 🤩 I felt a bit sorry for him with the weather starting to feel wintery, so now he'll be all set! . I measured him up for a saddle and a bit, and went shopping to buy him some gear - pony stuff is all SO cute, and I can't wait to see him all decked out. Ella's chosen lots of purple for him! 😂💜 . He's got a farrier appointment tomorrow, and will see the dentist asap as well. I'll give him a hot wash in the next few days to get all the dirt and dandruff out of his coat, and then I think we'll be getting close to being ready to get some real work done with him. . Super excited to get this little boy going, he's been so much fun to play with so far. Starting to look great too, definitely our little diamond in the rough 🥰🦄 . Barney 🦄 . Hey everyone! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a crazy few weeks here, sorry I haven't updated in a while! We got hit by the bad luck stick and had one of those 'everything's going wrong' weeks - it doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it's always everything at once! 😂🙈 . Following that, we all got sick for the second time this month - you all know how much I love winter (not!) 😂 On the bright side, theres only 89 days till Spring! 😁 . In between coughs and sniffles, there's been a few beautiful sunny days, so I've dragged El out for some fresh air and pony time.
