Day 18 - Heat of Battle
Fic if you want to read every posted day : https://archiveofourown.org/works/51386731/chapters/129854215
Gear station was in chaos, all of that because of Team Plasma who decided that ‘oh, yes it would be a good idea to try and gain control of the Subway system’ Emmet was pissed at them more than anything, They first endangered the passenger who did not ask for all of that and then pretend to act as if what they are doing is for the good and freedom of Pokemon! Coming from him, a literal Zoroark, that means a lot.
Unfortunately for him and his brother, who was just behind to cover his back, they were surrounded by grunts, Unfortunately for team Plasma, they were against Ingo and Emmet.
“Chandelure, Overheat!!”
“Eelektross, Discharge!!”
Chandelure chimed at the order, Emmet could hear her joy to putting to dust the intruder “Of course, as if it was already done!!” with no hesitation she used her attack.
Eelektross did not say much, as he used a powerful Discharged on the unlucky fool who tried to fight them, That seemed to discourage some of the grunts who realized that their Pokemon couldn't match against the Ace of the Twin.
Emmet could feel himself smile with a sinister look, as he was far from finished with them, tuning down his brother's side of the battle to stay focused on the idiot who through that they could take him out.
He gave a knowing look to his partner, who seemed to already know what he was going to do. “Let’s finish them, should we?”
“Yes, no one has any right to come into our station, endangering our passengers and workers and get out of it without any consequences!!” it was loud and clear, Emmet looked at the some stubborn Plasma grunt in front of them who didn’t run away “you had one last chance to go, you didn’t take it, Eelektross Thunderbolt!”
The Pokemon in front of them, a Liepard, tried to avoid the attack from the side, but was not fast enough against the powerful attack, falling on the ground in disgraced, The grunt let out a startled noise, looking terrified. Emmet called back his Pokemon.
The man stuttered loudly, “W-We are not finished yet! I..I retreat but I know that y-you can’t get rid of all of us” and with that, the man ran followed by the other that Emmet had fought off, When he was sure that they were gone, he turned to his brother, who seemed to have finished there too, turning around to look Emmet.
“It seemed that we still have a...lot of things to do still….” Ingo frowned slightly, looking Emmet curiously like he was out of place, Emmet did not really ask why, and that was far from being the moment to ask that.
“Yup, we should decouple our cars for the moment, we would be more efficient”.
Ingo nods, still looking Emmet eyes for a moment. “I suppose that you are right….still something is bothering me, are you alright? Your eye color seem different”
Emmet froze for a moment, that was not good at all, He could see Chandelure looking at him with a deadpan expression, and slightly smug, She did not need to be silently sassy with him, especially now, he decided that the best course of action was to avoid the situation all together.
“I am Emmet, I am fine, and I should go now!”
“Emmet wait--”
But he was already gone with Eelektross in tow, an unreadable expression on his face “Em, he is going to talk to you about it after the Emergency, you know?”
“I know”
___________________
“Jackie why are you here!? We need as much help that we can with--….why do you eat popcorn?”
“Well you see Cloud, my Pokemon are not in any shape to continue this fight, I can’t go to the healing station at all, and of course most of the passengers are already gone, so I just observe what the boss are doing
“….hmm...sure… wait is that Emmet?--- …. Did he actually just punch the guy!!”
“Yep”
“...okay give me some popcorn too, that is gold!”

Imagine Ingo and Emmet not realising that they're brothers until the get back to the present. They've spent a year or 2 together Hisui before coming back to Unova. Either Ingo or Emmet vaguely remember where their home is and drags the other there. When they enter their house is empty, Elesa currently has all their pokemon that day, but it's full of memories. They are surprised to find the wall apartment covered in photos of them growing up together and they spend the rest of the evening looking through an old photo album as they slowly remember what they had forgotten.
An interesting idea! But that brings up the question, why didn’t anyone else recognize Emmet as Ingo’s brother?
Obviously, the easiest way would just to give Emmet (or Ingo I guess) horrific facial scarring that makes him look nothing like his brother.
That makes me sad though, so let’s do something more fun!
Emmet had done it! He had reached the creator of the universe and pled his case, begging for his brother to come home. Unfortunately, Arceus wasn’t in a very generous mood at the moment, so it kinda just told him to accept that Ingo was gone and move on with his life. Emmet, of course, was far too stubborn for that, insisting that he and his brother are a two car train and shouldn’t be separated.
To which Arceus was just like, “Really? Prove it.”
So Emmet is sent to Hisui with both no memory AS WELL AS a completely different voice, hair, clothes, face etc. Just kinda plopped down in the Pearl Clan settlement as a very confused man. This was supposed to be an unwinnable challenge- concocted out of pettiness by Arceus because Emmet was so annoying.
Jokes on Arceus though, because as soon as Ingo walks into the settlement and starts doing pokemon related things, Emmet speed walks over to ask questions. And oh! Would you look at that! Those two get along weirdly well!
But yeah, when they go back Arceus fixes Emmet’s face and body (because it, at the very least, isn’t a sore loser), and the twins get to do the Spider-Man pointing meme. (Or, we leave them facially blind and they literally don’t figure it out until they get home as the original ask suggested)

About where Barry and Elesa are during Emmet's kidnapping, they probably are near the forest, since Ingo's idea was most likely was to first intoduce Emmet and if lady Sneasler was confortable the other two later. So while they were waiting for a message to direct them, the two could hear the comotion of the researchers ambush and run to get there. Now, if they arrive in time, their presence could be why the researchers get hasty and it results in the quick retreat with "Ingo" instead of Sneasler, and Barry + Elesa go after them (but I'm not sure if Barry would go after them only because "Dawn" might be right there?! Anyways, he's also a friend of Emmet and maybe the adrenaline of the situation could make him forget about Dawn on the moment since he already lost a friend and he doesn't want to load another) and even if they don't catch them they confirm that the thiefs are going to the lab.
Another Idea is that they find the researchers backup and take care of them, and the loss of the backup is what makes the first group of the ambush get hasty.
You are correct in the first third and that later third is a great idea!
When they reach an area near by where the meet up will be, Ingo would instruct them to wait until Emmet contacts them. He does not want to overwhelm Sneasler right now so they will meet back up with Elesa and Barry once everyone is ready.
Now Barry learning Akari is Dawn is something I’m still juggling. Because if Barry does know that she’s Dawn he would fight Ingo on this.
So, idea, at this time Barry does not know, but elsewhere, Cynthea has just learned this/figured it all out. She would then contact Dawns mom, Johanna, and tell her what she has learned.
So meanwhile Elesa and Barry are waiting down on the side of a route, checking updates on what’s going on/letting their pokemon out to wander to pass the time.
It’s then that they notice a large van driving down the road and the two duck out of sight. It turns out not to be just one, but two unmarked dark colored vans that pass them as well a a couple grunts on motorcycles.
They both get the feeling that something is up so they follow after. They soon learn that these are the lab grunts and what they are planning so they put a stop to them.
This loss of back up/an extraction team makes the grunts attacking Akari and the twins fall back after only successfully capturing ‘Ingo’.
So back with the other two, Elesa and Barry chase off the back up grunts and are waiting for the call from Emmet. The longer it takes the more worried they are that something went wrong with the grunts the other group must have faced. And then Barry suddenly gets a call from Johanna.
Barry is confused by the call but answers it and gets the surprise of his life when Johanna tells him Akari is Dawn. He immediately tells her where they are and that Akari is suppose to be not too far from here in the woods up the mountain. He tells her that he and Elesa are worried that Dawn and the others were targeted by the lab again. Johanna tells him she’ll be right there to search of her daughter.
Akari, meanwhile, is a mess and only has a few of her pokemon up and able to help her and Sneasler. Ingo’s machamp and gliscor are both only barely up but are too stubborn to rest in their poke balls. Machamp is carrying an unconscious Ingo as Gliscor scouts ahead in the dark along with Akari’s Dartrix. They are retreating deeper into the wooded mountains for a safe place to hide and try to heal.
They eventually find one and Akari spends the next day trying to look after everyone the best she can. She cries when Ingo finally wakes up and is so relieved that he’s ok.
It won’t be until a few hours after Ingo’s awake that they finally hear Johanna calling for Dawn as she’s searching to woods for them. After that reunion Johanna will call Elesa and Barry to tell them where they are. The two soon join the group as well and bring plenty of food and medical supplies.
There’s allot of hugging and crying, followed by allot of intense planning on how their gonna attack the lab.

...What happens with Emmet in the Post-Rus AU, if I may ask?
That's an interesting question. I think it depends on whether or not you decide to have him be affected by Pokérus as well. If you don't then I'd see him spending some time trying to search for answers as to what happened to Ingo. However, depending on when the timeline diverges thanks to Arceus's influence, Ingo may not have affected the past at all.
To reiterate, Arceus needs to separate the timelines in order to make sure that Ingo and Dawn exist to be thrown back in time in the first place. I'm going to say that, with Dialga's help, Arceus forced the non-Pokérus timeline to diverge right as Akari was dropped into Hisui, basically removing Pokérus from the equation. While other possibilities might be more interesting from a storytelling standpoint (and I may explore them too) I can't see Arceus splitting the timelines any earlier. So in essence, as far as Emmet knows, nothing would be too different from normal 'dealing with Ingo being Eeby deebied'.
If Emmet is affected by Pokérus... that makes things interesting.
Now I could just say that nothing much happens because of Emmet being transformed, but that's boring. So let's roll with this. The main thing is that Emmet basically ties the non-Post-Rus timeline to the Pokérus timeline. This causes... problems in the causality of things, and basically makes a dimensional anomaly.
Now, the easy thing would be to Eeby Deeby Emmet to the Post-Rus timeline. The problem is, in part thanks to Emmet's anomalous nature and in part due to sheer stubbornness, Elesa refuses to lose Emmet as well. She basically forces a bond so strong that it tethers Emmet to her. And not just her either, others are able to essentially add their own bonds, either to Emmet or to someone else in the tether, to the tether. It may start out with just Elesa keeping Emmet tied to her timeline, but it expands to the Depot agents, Ingo and Emmet's Pokémon, and Drayden (Uncle Drayden ftw), meanwhile Skyla is keeping Elesa tethered and Iris is keeping Drayden tethered, and basically it makes it nigh impossible to tear Emmet out of this timeline without tearing out a huge number of other people, including a good proportion of Unova's Pokémon League.
TL:DR The Power of Friendship forms a metaphysical web keeping Arceus from tearing emmet away.
Now this is not great for Arceus, because it seriously destabilizes the timeline, because Pokérus is not supposed to exist in this timeline. There are two paths I can see this going. First is one we already explored with the fusion between the Post-Rus AU and the Twin Regions AU—Arceus fixes the problem by transplanting Post-Rus Hisui into this timeline, basically making Pokérus a part of the world without making it affect the timeline.
The other is more... chaotic. In essence, the timeline just fuses with the Post-Rus timeline. Some people transform into Pokémon because they are Pokémon in the Post-Rus timeline, some people just appear out of nowhere because they existed in the Post-Rus timeline but not the original timeline, some people gain a second set of memories because they existed in both timelines while people who only existed in the original timeline don't...
It's... messy. Very, very messy.

I’m back on my…
✨Twilight Vampire Bullshit✨
Tumblr media
Cw: Morbius Spoilers
Emmet starred at the human before him, narrowing his eyes and raising a brow. This went on for several minutes before any of the other vampires decided to speak up. It was a simple spring morning in the Cullen house, school was out for spring break so most of the other people were out of town. But the Cullens stayed home, enjoying the company of the only human Rosalie tolerated.
“Babe, what are you doing?” Rosalie asked, crossing the room to join Emmet and sit at his side.
Before Emmet could speak however, Edward cut him off.
“He’s trying to read their mind. Let me tell you brother, that’s not something you actually want to do.” Edward smirked, assumant present in his tone.
“But that’s the thing, they’re always thinking! How do you have so many thoughts? What are you planning? Tell me mortal!” Emmet bellowed.
You finally became aware of the fact that all eye in the room where now on you. You were a lone human in a house full of vampires, and they were all starring at you. But you couldn’t tell them what you were thinking, it was stupid, you’re thoughts were never truly important. Not when you felt relaxed and safe anyways.
“What have we told you about that nickname Emmet?” Esme warned her son.
“But they like it. Tell her.”
You shrugged.
“I’m actually quite curious too. You’ve actually managed to make Edward feel something other than his seemingly endless teen angst. And don’t even get me started on the emotions you’re feeling right now.” Jasper smirked.
You let out a deep sigh.
“I don’t think I will actually, I value what you guys think of me and I don’t wanna ruin that.”
“My dear, we could never think any less of you.” Esme cooed.
“Yes, and my children are stubborn, they won’t stop bothering you until you tell them. Not sure where they got that quality from” Carlisle sent a playful glare to his coven.
“Morbius” you muttered under your breath.
You knew they had heard it, but it was evident they didn’t understand. But you couldn’t contain your excitement anymore.
“After 5 years of waiting I finally got to see a Morbius in theatre last night! And let me tell you this man is the finest vampire I’ve ever seen-“
You slapped a hand over your mouth after realising what you just said.
“You went to see a vampire movie…” Emmet started. “Without me?!?”
“I’m sorry Em, you were busy. Besides I’m pretty sure you and Rose were having quite a bit of your own fun last night anyways. Let me have this.”
“You watch vampire movies with them?” Edward asked, bewildered.
“Why are you so surprised, you’ve know him for how long? Does anything Emmet does really shock you all that much anymore? Besides it’s no weirder than me watching movies about other humans.”
“The inaccuracy makes it more fun.” Emmet shrugged, smiling at you. “Now tell me about this Morbius you traitor!”
“Alright so he’s like this doctors who’s dying of an incurable disease right? And he splices his DNA with that of a vampire bat!”
“That’s not factually accurate.” Carlisle interrupted.
“It’s a super hero movie? Are you expecting accuracy? They have to embellish things to fit their own personal narrative ok.”
“Ok so I’m assuming he’s succeful?” Rosalie asks, now curious.
It still surprised the others when she was soft with you, or engaged in conversations she’s typically find grating or useless. But she loved to listen to you talk, didn’t really matter what it was about.
“Yes, it didn’t go as expected. He was hoping to just activate the anticoagulants from the bat DNa to help cure and possibly even reverse his blood condition. But because his experiment was kind of unethical-“
“And most likely illegall” Carlisle chimed in once more.
You didn’t mind when he did this, I meant he was listening.
“You hang out with Bella’s Dad far too much…”
Carlisle finally glanced up from his book to look at you. He rolled his eyes when you smirked at him.
“Let her finish her story My Love” Esme pleaded with her mate.
He simply glanced back down at his book, prompting you to continue.
“So he had to perform the experiment on himself obviously, because you can’t be double illegal and perform human experiments on another human. like what if they died, that would make you a killer.”
“Didn’t you say he becomes a vampire because of this though?” Jasper piped in.
“Yes, I’m getting to that. But being a vampire murder and a human murderer are two different things. Different species, different rules. So anyways he preforms this experiment on a cargo ship in the middle of the ocean right, and he’s not expecting to gain the blood thirsty aspect of the bats from this universe. So he blacks out and kills all the mercenaries on this ship and then jumps off.”
“Why would he jump off the boat?” Alive finally spoke up.
“Because my sweet Alice, he didn’t want to kill the last person on the boat. The girl that helped him transform. He’s had a crush on her since like college.”
“Awww that’s so sweet of him.”
“I know right. Anyways fast forward a bit, he gets arrest as the “vampire murderer” lame, I know. And his best friend who’s like a billionaire gets into the prison and gives him blood so he’s strong enough to get out. Said best friend also took the serum and is now a vampire and has been framing Morbius for murders like the whole week right.”
“So the best friend had the same blood condition?” Jasper asked.
“Precisely! But basically to wrap it up, Morbius makes something that can kill the both of them, cause he knows he can’t live off synthetic blood forever, and he manges to kill his best friend right? But bam it’s the end of the movie and he somehow turned his lady friend, but he has no idea she’s alive and he just runs off so he won’t get arrested again. Can’t prove he didn’t commit the murders since the person who did became a vampire because of him.”
“Interesting, you’re leaving out all the details you’re excited about.” Edward jeered.
“Stay out of my head lover boy! And your parents are here, not gonna say that in front of them.”
Carlisle cleared his throat and Esme giggled, leaning into him.
“So what makes this vamp so hot?”
You pulled out a picture of him, passing it around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reactions varied throughout the room. And you sighed in content when the phone got back to you.
“Why does he look like that?” Edward asked
“We’ll he’s a vampire because of Bat DNA genius, so he had other bat like features and abilities. God look at those teeth.” You complimented.
“He looks like a piranha” Emmet declared.
“We’ll this piranha can eat me any day.”
You looked around the room, realising you said it out loud. Emmet was howling and Alice and Rose were snickering under their breaths. Edward looked horrified and you could see the disappointment on Carlisle’s face.
“What, his bite alone isn’t confirmed to turn anyone, so like he could just bite me and I could move on with my life. I’d be into it.”
“You’re hopeless” Jasper said, patting you on the back.
“No I think the word you’re looking for is horny”
An: this is so bad. But I genuinely really liked Morbius. Wasn’t much of a storyline but I would love to see more of him! I love a good vampire movie 🥰

emmet and ingo both wanting a taste of your pussy, both of them are too stubborn to let the other twin go first so both of them are trying to spread your legs as far as possible to let both of them taste your sweet nectar, both of there faces smushed next to each other trying to taste as much of you as possible meanwhile your begging them to give you a break as this has been going on for hours and you so overstimulated you can barely handle both of them licking you for all your worth. idk just something i was thinking about lol
Ingo very surprisingly gets very possessive when he is eating you out.
Your sweet juices makes him act less of a man in more of an animal fr.
Emmet will probably try to get close only for ingo to glare and growl at him
Emmet is taken aback by ingo's aggressiveness. Though it's not like he's one to talk he gets like that too when he's balls deep inside of you and he really into it

Uncle Clay AU: The Cave Incident
In which young children think they're invincible until they don't and Emmet develops a fear of heights
MASTERPOST
Ingo and Emmet were adventurous as kids, which wasn’t a bad thing to be
-Wandering along the Trainer Routes outside Opelucid challenging people to battle, exploring Pinwheel Forest and, of course, exploring Chargestone Cave
--Like, this is normal in the Pokémon world, you battle several little kid NPCs in-game in safer areas of the region like Pinwheel Forest or Brooklet Hill
They were also quite stubborn, as many young children can be.
-They knew how the world worked, and anyone who told them otherwise was wrong
--Unless it was Uncle Drayden or Uncle Clay, because they know everything
Unfortunately, this can be a disastrous combination
-Often leading to them coming some with scrapes from getting too close to some Pokémon’s nest or climbing to high up a tree and someone with a Flying Type needing to help get them down
The worst example being one time after a particularly territorial group of Boldore found their way into Chargestone Cave and decided to stay, eventually causing a cave in from fighting with and other wild Poémon that got too close to their domain
-The twins had been firmly told, by both uncles, to stay out of Chargestone Cave until Clay said it was safe
--But they’re 7 year old boys. So they don't.
---They explore Chargestone Cave all the time! They know where to go and where not to!! Their uncles are just being silly!
-Clay and several of his Gym Trainers were checking the main paths of the cave for danger zones and looking for the Boldore when a Tynamo came rushing at him
-He expected a battle for a second, but then realized it was acting...weird.
--Just moving around him frantically, dashing away, staring at him and then coming back and repeating the actions
---Clay's heart stopped when he realized it was Emmet's Tynamo
---He followed the little thing, running fast as he could, his hat falling off and getting left on the ground in his rush
----And then he discovered he could run even faster when he heard the boys [his boys] screaming for help
-The ground had broke beneath Emmet's feet while they were exploring and he was dangling off of a cliff, several levels up, with Ingo clinging to him and trying to pull him up
--Ingo was so relieved when he saw Clay that he said something out loud that he and Emmet had only said to each other in private before then:
---“Uncle Claaay! Heeelp!!”
----Clay did not notice the new title he had, far too focused on reaching them in time to actually hear anything
--Clay pulled Emmet up and then pulled the boys into the tightest hug, before marching them back to the gym, hands firmly on their shoulders.
---Stopping and letting them go only once, for a few seconds, to retrieve his hat from one of his Gym Trainers
--Once back at the gym, he dropped the boys onto the sofa in his office, gave them the lecture of their lives, and then grounded them for two weeks
---Both boys were super subdued after that scare and gave a quiet “Sorry uncle Clay.” at the end of the lecture
----That time Clay noticed and processed what they just called him, and that Ingo had said it earlier too
---Then he called Drayden who, when they got home, gave them another lecture and added a week onto their grounding
----Because Drayden hadn’t known they were in Driftveil, and while they were allowed to take the train between Driftveil and Opelucid by themselves, they have to tell him first and they knew that
-----They hadn’t because then Clay would have known they were there and stopped them from going into the cave.
------Ergo very grounded
-That adventure is what spawned Emmet's fear of heights.
--Nothing like almost falling to your death to give you Trauma™

Previous Chapter
Avis ran to the open field. There was no one. Most of the guard are somewhere inside, making sure the experiments and researchers are safe or far outside the gate, chasing off Mary's group. They all left, letting The Thing to do whatever it please to them. Avis head towards the second building near her. Couldn't make it obvious she was bait.
A loud crack surprised her. A piece of rubble falling. The Thing was on to her. She did her job. She hoped her friends would run the opposite way instead of following. They have to. For the data they went through all this trouble to steal and especially Sherman and Emmet.
They argued for too long. She should have been alarmed at how silent Sherman was. Nausea pooled into her gut as she remember the way he crumpled into James hands. Their leader hasn't even took off his cover. From bad to worse. Emmet watched it all unfold. They shouldn't have bring him here. Her heart sank to her ankles, leaving a heavy trail of cold that knotted her insides.
Distract. Her objective now is occupy The Thing's attention until her friends are away. The outer wall's greenery was still crawling on top of her cover. As Avis entered the second building, she dumped it on the door. Not like she's going to climb out of here anyway. The second building was built different. It wasn't a hallway, more like a vast room people usually held conferences in. Weaponry research department. Faint smell of blood floating in the air. Avis run with her left hand holding on to the wall. She hunkered down a little. It was getting harder to gather the strength to put her foot forward.
She climbed the stairs to the second floor. It was walled off to several sections. A giant box of vacuum metal fill in the space on the far end. Cables everywhere. Rows of tables filled with typewriters and office supplies. Avis made a mental list of her inventory. A single gun, two bullets left. And a dozen of pens she just picked up. There's also the bayonet and her one remaining grenade. She overheard a sob.
Someone have been hiding under one of the desk. She approached it. The choked sobs turned to begging.
"No, no, please don't kill me!"
It was a girl. Her face was wet with tears. Her dress crumpled and ripped at the edges. She was relatively young, and the color of her clothes suggest she was still a student.
"Are you alone in here?"
The student didn't even look at her. She hid her face when Avis tap her shoulder.
"Look, someone's going to tore through this room and I'm not sure he could distinguish friend from foe. You have two choices. Leave, or stay so I could use you as a meatshield."
The girl dashed to the doorway. There was a scream. It was a good few minutes before The Thing burst through the door. He was still red, but his arms were already healed from burns. The last explosion had burned his upper lip, showing teeth. His right leg, Avis noticed, were completely skinless, save for the green worms eating at his flesh.
The Thing was chewing something. Bits of meat fell from his mouth. He spat. A wet slop of hair, bones and shredded fabric. Avis took a step back, a horrifying realization dawned in on her.
He lunged at her. She swung a chair to his face. She dashed to the other end of the room, bringing another chair with her. He caught up to her by a single jump. Avis crouched holding the legs of the chair above her head. It hit him square in the middle. While he curled up on the floor from pain, she run away leaving her last grenade. The impact threw her down the stairs. Heat rippled on her back. The sound deafened her. Avis failed to stand, still reeling from the explosion. She turned around, looking at the hubris. The Thing emerged from the fire.
He grabbed her by arms, slamming her across the room. Avis could feel the tendons of her shoulder ripping. Her head hits concrete. Suddenly the world was upside down. Her stomach lurched. Pain exploded throughout her side, making her breath shallow as she gasped for air.
Her hands scrambled to her pockets. Pens, bayonet, guns. Her fingers trembled too much to firmly hold anything. The Thing loomed above Avis. She clenched her teeth, bringing out her last remaining strength to draw her bayonet.
What followed was a desperate scuffle of two dying soldiers. Avis dig her finger in skinless flesh as The Thing swing her by the hair. He ate three of fingers. She spit on his eyes and screamed to his ears. When her bayonet was stuck on his shoulders, she pulled out the pens and pierced it to his neck until he couldn't heal anymore. The Thing fell on her, and his blood wash over her face like a gush of hot water.
Avis grunted as she pushed away his corpse. She glanced up. Sharp eyes boring in on her. Guns aiming for her head.
***
"Your friends have failed," The middle-aged man pulled away from his chair. "We found them in the woods. They couldn't run very far because one of them is dying. Mold poisoning is it?"
Avis clenched her fist. It fucking hurt. Three hours in the car and they didn't even put a bandage on her mutilated fingers. Just some very tight binds to stop the bleeding. The handcuffs clinked on the desk, grazing the scuffles on her wrists even when she flinched. The blinding pain subsumed her senses. She's going to regret it for the long term, enforcing bad habits during stress. But it was good for now, a way to recenter herself from the whirlwind of emotions.
"You're lying, Inspector Barnes. Your statements doesn't add up."
"Care to explain it to the man we found vomiting blood outside of the gate?"
Inspector Barnes crossed his arms. He's standing over her like an inescapable presence. Intimidation tactics, Avis remind herself. She can't trust whatever this man said. No matter how much it makes sense.
It's good her friends made it past the gate but-
No! She shouldn't. Not until Avis saw her team in prison slacks herself. Her handcuffs clatters against the desk. Blood dripping out through her knuckles.
Avis scoffed, "I'm not talking. Maybe I would if I see them captured, but it's only a maybe."
"Are you deaf? One of them is dying. The mold was eating them from the inside out. The doctors are keeping them alive as we speak, but they're not authorized to give them any cure until you give me what I need."
What does he mean by 'them'? Did he not know Sherman's the one hurt? Or is everyone infected?
Stop. No speculating. Assume everything's a lie until there's definite proof. Avis straightened her back. All of the injuries she sustained are screaming now. Her face hard, she doesn't want to let it show.
"That's illegal. You're forbidden to withhold treatment for bioweapons. Heh, you haven't even read my rights yet."
"Young lady, nothing can protect you the moment you decided to join Heretics. Letters of the law be damned, you're enemies of the State. You're. Not. Getting. Out. Of. Here."
Inspector Barnes slammed his hands on the desk, the same time he get his last words. Avis jumped, despite herself.
He's trying to rattle me.
"Forced disappearance? I knew a few of my friends who died that way. It's expected. I still think you're bluffing. Give me a picture of my friends sitting in a cell then I'd believe you."
Inspector Barnes sit back again. He run his fingers through his hair. "You're stubborn, no, cruel is more like it. Your goal for chaos is all that you had in mind. Even that intern girl..."
Avis felt bile rising to the throat. She gulped down the bitter spit saliva that's pooling in her mouth. Barnes tilt his head, his expression slightly amused.
"What's this? A sign of conscience?"
"No. I let her run so she doesn't end up as collateral damage. Guess she's unlucky. That Thing fucking ate her."
"The Dog, Fenrir, you mean. You told her to run so she could be a distraction for Fenrir when you wait."
"You're twisting my words."
"I saw the camera footage. He ate her alive. You threatened her, lead a teenage girl to her death who couldn't think straight because terrorists are raiding her workplace!"
Barnes spoke, his voice thick with emotion. It was almost a whisper at first, but rapidly rising and rising until he was practically screaming. The Inspector kicked the desk, slamming it at Avis midsection. Avis crumpled to the side. Her ribs explode with pain. It took everything not to heave on her prison garb.
"What's this? A sign of conscience?" She laughed, and the resulting pain led to a coughing fit that only serves to aggravate the pain she felt in a vicious cycle.
But more importantly, she was subsumed with spite. Barnes was part of the police force. How many people have he obliterated without remorse? Hypocrisy, to demand her begging and crying for forgiveness.
He kicked her to the head. Another blow struck her face. Avis tried to fight him off but her hands were tied. Barnes grabbed a clump of her hair. He dragged her so she'd meet his eyes. Wrath contorted his face.
"You're letting your friends die."
A spit land right between his eyes. Avis grinned, revealing two elongated fangs. She smelled blood and it's everywhere in the room. Not hers nor from Barnes. She glowered at him.
"I don't believe you. Not one bit. But I do wonder why this intern bitch is so important for you."
"My job is protect people like her from you."
"And you failed. I heard the girl screaming for her dear life. I even heard her bones cracking and her flesh ripping from the seams, I could have took my chance and killed that dog, but I can't pass the opportunity to see her be taken apart piece by piece. Isn't that what you do here everyday? What makes her different?"
Avis looked for a spark of recognition between his eyes.
"Ah, she's family?"
He throw her, head first into the floor. Her vision blurred and for a second she can't figure out which way is up or down. Suddenly one of his knee are on her chest, and his hands wrapped around her throat.
She couldn't breathe. Her field of sight rapidly shrinking. Her strength quickly fading. Her body struggled on reflex, torn shoulder squirming with her torn up hands. She have to do something. She could die. Her friends, what about them?
Barnes released her. He stood over her. His breathing hard.
"I don't care if you're dead, Avis. I wish I could get away for caving your head on this table. You're selfish. People die because you want to be exempt from the rules. But the scientist behind that glass over there want you alive. My only consolation is he could do much worse that I can ever hope to inflict in a lifetime."
Avis couldn't bring herself to fake a grin. Instead her hands shakily rises up to point him with her half-eaten middle finger. "Doesn't matter. That intern bitch is still dog's slop and you can never bury her into the ground."
She closed her eyes, barely registering that the chain on her cuffs were split. She think of her friends, perhaps dying in agony over the mold. Barnes might have lied, she told herself. Cops always lie. And even with her friends dead, she still have to do this. Keeping her mouth shut. Holding out until someone save her. Be it Death or another Heretic. They might not be related but she's not going to die betraying her family. She has to be fierce, she has to be cruel, she has to—
Avis fell unconcious on the interrogation room floor. Beyond the glass across her stood an balding man. He spoke to his two interns, "Our project's not over yet."

Imprint.
I had never been so mad in my entire life.
Imprint.
I could hear Edward's words echo in my head, repeating over and over again his explanation of imprinting. How it changed how you thought. How it was some thing of fate. God. Whatever. How it had torn Embry and Quil down to just friends the way it had flipped Leah's world upside down as her fiancé fell for her cousin. Her COUSIN. How it had torn me and Jacob Black apart because Jake didn't want to drag me into this world of danger if I wasn't his imprint. How Sam didn't ALLOW non-imprints after his fall out with Leah.
Sam. Sam Uley.
Maybe he was helping those boys get used to the whole werewolf thing. Maybe they needed him. Fine. And I suppose if I was Embry's imprint and I'd been Jake's girlfriend that would have been absolute disaster. But still. I couldn't blame anyone for this whole thing, so I decided to blame Sam Uley. Sam Uley and his stupid rules and stubbornness and imprinting. How he hurt Leah. How he hurt me.
Imprinting.
That was the real villain, wasn't it? Sam couldn't help that he was forced to fall in love with someone he didn't know. That his soul or whatever had chosen Emily of all people instead of Leah. It wasn't Embry's fault he'd done the same, or Jake's fault that he hadn't. Imprinting... I wondered how much it had hurt Embry Call.
First his imprint hadn't been Quil, which meant that he had to leave him behind. Then Quil had been a wolf... just to imprint on someone else. Then he'd imprinted on me and now all that other chaos didn't matter. Years of pining and ducking and pretending and yearning and wanting- just gone. How was that fair?
I wasn't just mad at imprinting. I was mad at being lied to. At not being told the whole story, from the very beginning. I was mad that they hadn't trusted me. That Embry hadn't trusted me. That they hadn't at least warned me about the whole lot of shit I was getting flung into.
Now Embry's protectiveness made sense, and it infuriated me. I would have been more careful around the other boys if I'd known.
Wouldn't I have?
It was too much. There was too much information and too much that made me mad. Too much that was unfair and terrible and frustrating and terrifying. I didn't know what to think or how to feel. I didn't know what to do. So I did what I did best. When faced with a problem, I ignored it.
It didn't take Embry long to find me.
"Hey there." His smile was charming and I suddenly very much wanted to fall apart in his arms and just lose it sobbing. I'd been bottling it all up and it was killing me slowly. But I knew I couldn't. Behind that smile, more than anything, was a liar. How long was he going to wait to tell me? Was he going to tell me at all?
Tat anger flared back up in me and it was what I needed to steal myself against him. "Go away Embry."
His smile was instantly gone. "Wh-" He jogged to keep up with me, not having expected me to keep walking. School had just ended and he was probably here to show off the car Jake had helped him fix up. Quil had let it slip a few weeks back that the surprise was being cooked up for me. Now we could see each other more often. Now he could come to me, not just the other way around.
It was unfortunate that it was too late.
"Wait, Y/n!" He stood in front of me and I ducked around him. He scrambled after me. "Are you mad at me?" I scoffed, rolling my eyes. He looked desperate. This whole thing had been balancing on a thread and now it had fallen over and he was too late to catch anything. To make it better. "Y/n, wait." He put either of his hands on me, in front of me again, stopping my progress.
"Get your hands off of me." I looked up at him, eyes flaring with rage. In surprise he let go immediately, eyes wide. He looked like a kicked puppy. Despite myself, a pang of regret reverberated in my chest, leaking into my stomach, twisting it. I moved around him again, getting to my car. He padded after me, wracking his brain to find out what was wrong and how to fix it. I unlocked my car, throwing my stuff in. I was going to get in. Leave. Forever. Never call him again. He'd put me in danger. He'd unfairly put a claim on me. He'd left me in the dark, confused and worried and unsure and flat on my back as the world spun and he'd offered not even a single thought of helping me. He wanted me to just accept everything while keeping it all a secret from me. I had so many reasons to be mad at him. At imprinting. At stupid werewolves and vampires and Bella and Jacob and-
I didn't leave.
I spun to face him. His face exploded with pain and it was then I realized I was crying. "Y/n-" it was weak. Broken. He'd been avoiding this. Why had he been so persistently avoiding this? He could have avoided all of this if he'd just TOLD me!
"I know." He was hesitant, his expression flickering between confusion and pure terror. "I know, Embry."
He settled on terror. "You... know..."
"I KNOW," I snapped. "How long were you going to keep it from me? Were you ever going to tell me?" His mouth moved but nothing came out. "And just so you're perfectly clear on what I mean, I mean that little furry secret you've been keeping behind-" His eyes watered. His breathing was choppy and his eyes seemed to race from place to place, never settling. He began shaking. My eyes went wide. Despite my anger, I had real feelings for Embry Call. Maybe as a friend, if I lied to myself. Much more if I was honest. Much more. He as having a panic attack and I couldn't keep yelling knowing that. Knowing that his racing heart and shaking body would reveal a huge secret he was desperate to keep. I immediately pulled him to me and he clung to me desperately. "Calm down," I eased gently. "I'm not going to tell anyone, please calm down. If you turn here you could hurt someone and you'll never let yourself live it down if you do. Please Embry I don't want to see how people here will react if this gets out. Please please please please-"
"Stop," he rasped. I went silent. We just hung, tears falling down my face and breath coming quickly to and from him as we both struggled to get control of ourselves. "It's okay," he said finally. Up until that point I'd been holding on by a single thread. A strong wind away from completely toppling. "I'm okay." He began to soothe me. Hug me. Pull me together as I'd taken the time to do for him. He was wearing a shirt today. He often did around people other than me, Bella or... the pack. It was soft. Green, like my favorite color. It smelled nice. "I would never hurt you, Y/n."
I leaned away then, weakly trying to pull myself back to together without him. "I never thought you would." There was a part of me that knew the pack would never intentionally hurt me, just as the Cullens wouldn't. They were dangerous, capable of destroying someone completely. But they wouldn't, because they might be monsters, but they were monsters with consciouses. And that made them just as human as everyone else on this stupid planet.
He looked confused again, if a little breathless. "Then why are you mad?"
I tried not to lose it again. "You didn't tell me," I said slowly, not believing him. "You put me in danger, Embry. Real danger. You'd never hurt me on purpose, but I'm sure you and the others are perfectly capable if it came down to it. Accidents happen." Embry flinched. I'd hit a cord. I wondered who it had been. Who'd been hurt, and who'd hurt them. I'd met Quil, Embry, Leah and Seth's and Jake's parents and all of the pack, but I hadn't met any of their imprints or other friends. My knowledge of other people was very limited, and I was starting to realize why. "I could have at least been more considerate. Like with Paul-"
"Paul knew what he was doing," Embry interrupted. "I was just protective."
"Rightfully so." I put my hands on my hips. "My point is that you should have told me. I should have been in the know." I looked away. "Especially about imprinting."
His eyes went wide. "Why told you?"
"YOU should have told me." I glared at him and he winced, leaning away from me guiltily. "If you have to know though, Edward and Alice."
This time when his eyes widened, it was in protective rage. "You were alone with the Cullens?"
"And still alive," I remarked bitterly.
"Y/n they're dangerous!"
"So are you!"
He was very near my face. "You don't understand, Y/n. Do you know what they are?"
"Of course," I answered. "I wouldn't have believed the werewolf thing if I didn't know about the vampire thing."
Embry grabbed my shoulders, probably trying to enunciate his point. He held on too tightly though. It hurt. I went to tell him but he spoke before I could. "One drop of blood, Y/n. Sam's been teaching me to control myself, and my imprint link with you helps me a lot to keep you from getting hurt. The others are the same because we have a rule. As pressing as if Sam had said it himself- wolves don't hurt others' imprints. We were made to hurt vampires anyway, we're not bred and born to kill people! To kill you!"
"Embry-"
"They could have killed you!" His voice was rising, his grip tightening.
"Embry stop-" I cringed, trying to pul away. No matter what I did it didn't faze him. I wondered how strong he was. I wondered if ant of my efforts would even faze him since I was so much weaker than him it was almost comical.
"YOU-" he began.
Suddenly his hands were being ripped off of me and it nearly tore my arms out of their sockets. I looked over as Embry spun, growling as he came face to face with Emmet of all people. "I believe, if you'd listen," Emmet said rather calmly. "She said you were hurting her."
We were causing a scene. People passing by were stopping. The parking lot was pretty clear. I'd been a little late this morning and had parked quite far from the school. Most of the kids had been able to clear out before the chaos had caught the unfortunately lingering kids' attention. With the lack of cars at the very least to mask what was going on, every single eye was on what was happening.
Embry was having a hard time processing what was wrong with the situation. "I'm just trying to talk to her." His words were short and biting. I had never seen Embry like this. I'd never seen Emmet like this either. The other Cullens weren't too far behind him, and Embry was shaking with the vampires so close.
I had had enough. "You know what?" I was quite loud, all eyes turning on me. I stood tall, my face set. I was tired of being angry. Tired of crying. Tired of being confused and lost and unsure and scared. Embry fell to my hand rubbing my arm and his face went slack s he realized, still battling his instincts. "I'm done." I got in the car, starting it and taking off before Embry could get his thoughts together enough to stop me. The Cullens didn't stop me. I'd have to thank them for simultaneously having my back while also giving me space.
You know, I'd say I had a problem. I liked driving. I liked driving fast. When I was emotional, all I knew to do was bottle it up until it exploded. I don't know how the wolves did it. Maybe that's why they were so dangerous. Maybe that was why everyone was so dangerous. Anger was a hard emotion to control, and conscious beings were still learning to control it. Vampires. Werewolves. Humans. Fairies. Were they a thing too?
My mind was completely blank. I rolled all my windows down as I drove, reaching over to turn my music to top volume and crank it. My foot didn't release the brake once as I quickly found back roads that were never used. Long stretches of road that just went straight for miles. For nearly ever. I went faster and faster and faster, the wind whipping my hair everywhere and raising my adrenaline.
I stopped the car when I recognized my usual place. I'd discovered it one day while I was rage speeding as I'd just been. Going on and on and on, I'd run out of gas. I'd been on a low tank and then I'd gotten into a really bad argument with my mom and dad over grades after I'd missed a bunch of work due to a trip they'd dragged me on that I hadn't even wanted to go on because they didn't trust me to do anything let alone be in the house by myself for two whole weeks. They didn't ever trust me, no matter how much I deserved it.
That wasn't the point. I'd called Charlie, telling him about where I was and telling him I'd pay him back for gas, I just needed help. He'd been down to help me just as he always was.
While I was waiting, I'd explored a nearby barn looking thing that was falling apart. Still with far too much anger, I'd kicked and hit and just fully raged on the place. It had been extremely satisfying.
Charlie told me later that someone had once had this clearing made for a small farm like place. There was a house at one point, but that had been burned down a while back by some idiot teenagers. Whoever had once lived here hadn't been here in forever, and this place had remained abandoned and quickly falling apart. It looked like this place was big enough for maybe a few animals. A horse. A cow. A few chickens. A goat, maybe. Or maybe that last stall had been for a pig. Whatever it was, it was big enough to have plenty of nooks and crannies, small enough not to be too ridiculous. It had a loft, and I'd had fun for weeks during a Summer stacking boxes of old junk to get me up there. Usually I'd tear things apart then I'd go into the loft and bask in the sunlight as it fell through the window onto the ground.
This place was my safe place. I'd spent lots of time fixing the place up, being careful never to break important things. I hadn't been here in a while. Not since Jake. Jake had become my safe place, and then fixing up cars had become my new way of dealing with anger.
I wasn't in the mood to fix anything. I wasn't in the mood to go ten miles within a car. It would remind me of Jake. Of Embry and Quil even more. It would remind me of wolves and vampires and problems that were on such a ridiculous level. When had my life become this? When had things gotten so goddamn weird?
My legs hurt by the time I was done, but it was nothing compared to my arms. Everything below my elbow ached. My hands were red. My knuckles were bleeding. They weren't too bad. Just a little bloody. Not even to worry me. I climbed into the loft and sat under the window and closed my eyes.
There was a slight breeze today. I basked in the cool air and the warm sun and the tingling of my skin that was too hot as my rushing blood calmed and cooled. I'd taken my long sleeve off, leaving me in a tank top.
I cried. Just a little. Only a few tears, really. I let the rest of my turmoil slip out through those few tears, sniffing softly. I didn't wipe them away. I let my walls come down and my body unravel.
"Hey." It was soft. I didn't jump. It didn't surprise me. Probably one of the Cullens, or one of the pack. Their super speed thing. And the smelling magic bit. I'd been expecting someone to fid me eventually. I wondered if the Cullens cared to bother me, or if they did care but perhaps were allowing me some space as they usually did. I wished they were here now... but I was also too scared to look. If it was Embry I'd lose it again.
The person sat next to me. "Silent, huh? Cool." There was shuffling and I assumed they were laying down.
Turning my head, I cracked an eye open just a bit. I was pleasantly surprised. "Leah."
She gave a small smile. "Yeah. Embry lost it in the woods. He was too scared to go after you. He was angry. We sort of have this mental link as wolves."
I frowned. "So you know everything?" She nodded. My eyes widened. "Is that why they all treat you so weird?" Her frown matched mine. "That's so stupid," I snapped. "Fucking Sam." She shot me a surprised look. "Imprinting is bad enough, but the way he just expected you to move on and not care. Was Quil the same to Embry?"
Her expression darkened. "About Embry-"
"I really don't want to-"
"I know," she interrupted. "I didn't either. When I found out I mean. It's all bullshit, it is. And I get that. But there are some things you need to know." I sat up and she followed lead. I leaned back on my hands, waiting for her to continue. "When Quil came back, it was actually kind of touching. I hadn't seen anything good come out of one of us turning until they reunited. They were so happy." She'd grown a fond smile that weakened a bit as she finished. "It was ruined when Quil imprinted. Embry lost it. He'd turned and almost hurt one of the other imprints who was in the room. Kim. Paul's girl. He was in Emily's house. Emily had a breakdown. Quil got in so much trouble for breaking that news while inside. Embry was gone for weeks. He wouldn't talk to any of us. Finally Sam got the two boys together. To talk, at first. But then Embry lost it and so did Quil and they just went at it. Broke one of Quil's ribs." She sighed. "He only came back because Sam told him he had to. He had to learn to control himself. He had to deal with it. Embry and I actually kind of got close, there for a while. He avoided Quil and I avoided Sam and we both mourned every time we turned into wolves and the others could read our minds about every detail of it. It was ripping the pack apart..."
Scooting closer to Leah allowed me to put my hand on her shoulder. "I'm so sorry Leah."
She sighed and then shrugged. "It was life. When he saw you, everything changed. It was kind of nice again. I was alone, but you're cool and you hung out with me so... Embry stopped. He hated being reminded of how he used to fell, before you. But you hung out with me." I gave her a smile and she returned it.
I looked away. "It's horrible. Imprinting is the worst."
Leah looked out the window. "I think... it's useful, in some cases. Quil and Embry used to fight a lot. They were in love, sure, but they fought too. And I heard stories of before they were wolves from Jake. Things would get really bad and they were awkward and Quil wanted to keep it low key and Embry was terrible at keeping secrets. He's a very public boyfriend I guess. He likes everyone to know how happy he is. It was ripping their friendship apart. Quil's kind of really deep in the closet. He'd even hide it from the rest of us, even when we could read his mind. It was distracting on hunts. On good days they were nice to watch. They were cuddly and cute and when Quil finally stopped the bullshit it really WAS nice. But he'd only admitted it to us because Sam had commanded him to, to stop all the chaos. After that it was nicer, but even though we all did like watching them be together, it was equally a relief when Quil imprinted on someone else."
That was a whole lot I hadn't considered. "I didn't know."
Leah shrugged. "He was scared you'd react how he did when he found out about Quil imprinting. He'd come to terms with the whole thing in a kind of bitter way when he'd met you. Then he was relieved of it all. He met you and he had a weight lifted off his shoulders. NO more hiding or pretending. No more bullshit. He could just be with you and forget everything else. I don't think he would have been so eager to keep you around if that whole thing with Quil hadn't gone down. You were a distraction."
"Ouch," I mumbled, raising an eyebrow.
Leah chuckled. "You know it's not always romantic feelings we feel at first. It's just a connection, from what I hear. Sam fought it at first too. Quil was eager to have a reason to stop being with Embry because he was too scared to tell his mom, same as Embry was eager to have a reason to leave his feelings for Quil behind. After a while, it became more than that. He talked about you more. About how pretty you were. How funny you were. It started with how talented you were. With cars and comebacks alike. Then it got more intense. He wanted to spend time with you. Be around you. Talk about you when he wasn't doing one of those. We teased him all the time."
Despite myself, a tender smile crossed my face. "So... it wasn't all fake."
"No," Leah assured immediately. "Whatever he felt for Quil, Embry has never been happier than when he'd been with you."
I was hesitant to buy into this whole thing. "What about you and Sam?"
Her face was full of pain. "I'm... tiring. I ca be a lot, honestly. I wasn't ready for a relationship. Sam was easy, and he made me feel wonderful. He's better with Emily, as much as I hate to admit it. And one day I'm going to find someone for me and it's going to be great. A lot better than it was with Sam, because I've grown and learn. I deserve better, and I can do better. Next time I find someone, it'll be great." I sighed, leaning over and resting my head on her shoulder. She tensed before relaxing then resting her head on top of my head.
"Hey Leah?"
"What's up?"
"Wanna be my best friend?"
She actually laughed. "I wouldn't mind that."
"Cool." I smirked. "I'm gonna set you up with someone."
Leah leaned away, her expression very serious. "No you are not."
My smirk didn't falter. "Her name's Angela. She's a photographer. She goes to my school. She's really tall. Long, dark hair. Pretty. Awkward."
Leah was actually blushing. "You-" She tackled me, pinning me. I was cackling. "You will not."
I rose an eyebrow. "Oh won't I? Won't you even give me a chance. I do know SOME things about love. Before imprinting I actually had a boyfriend that I got all by myself."
"So did I," she shot back.
Tilting my head, I stuck out my bottom lip. "Fair." My eyes found her. "How about this. Blind date. You only have to give her ONE shot. If you hate her I'll never talk about it again."
She thought for a second. "A double date," she shot back. "Me and this Angela. You and Embry."
I didn't think for long. "Fine," I groaned.
This was a very bad idea. I didn't know how yet, but to say I was nervous was an understatement. Not that I couldn't also say I was excited... but that wasn't the point.

Day 25 - Sick
Fic if you want to read every posted day : https://archiveofourown.org/works/51386731/chapters/129854215
The day really did start perfectly, Emmet was verrrry pleased to see that nothing was out of the ordinary for once.
No illusion accident.
No unruly passenger.
No lost kid in the Subway.
No technical problems with the train.
No argument between the depot agent.
That was maybe why some sort of force of the universe decided that it was too perfect and that something needed to be done, or maybe something had a grudge against him because of a past mistake that he don’t remember doing, In any case, Emmet felt it hitting him hard.
It started with an annoying feeling of being tired, something he could deal with, It wasn’t the first time he suddenly felt exhausted, That was the consequence of being behind an illusion for days without taking any rest, through it usually takes much longer, months even, before something like that happened, and it’s only been one week since the last time he let down of his illusion, this was the first sign something was wrong, but Emmet decide to stubbornly ignored it.
Then came a horrible headache nagging him in the back of his head, becoming worse and worse as the hours passed, He would have tried to rest before, but the pain started while he was on the multi-battle train with his brother, He didn’t want to worry his twin and, to his defense, he was overall fine if not for the pain and exhaustion, it was just a simple, bothersome inconvenient, that Emmet could deal with for now, even if Ingo seemed to be suspicious every time Emmet wanted to cover his ear at the loud noise around who made his headache worse.
What finally made Emmet realize that he couldn't continue the day like this as stubborn as he could get, was the sudden feeling of weakness he felt before his leg nearly gave up on him in the middle of the corridor. Lucky enough, he could stop himself by putting one of his hands on the wall before he totally stumbled on the ground, but he would have been an idiot if he had continued his day on this track when he knew he couldn't win, as much as he hated to admitted to himself that forcing like this would just cause more problem for him.
He knew his illusion was probably not in the best formed at the moment because of that, at best it was only his eyes who got affected by whatever he had, This part wasn’t a real problem, There was a lot of explanation he could use, In the worse scenario he probably looked like a fuzzy mess of white, something who look barely human, it would probably freak out a lot of people and he don’t think that any lie would get him out of this one, in all case, he knew that he needed to retreat himself in his and Ingo’s office immediately, so no one could be able to see him in this state.
Thankfully he wasn't that far from his destination, worrying himself inside the office, then flatly letting himself fall face first on the couch, not having the energy to do much, it was also the only way for him to hide his face.
What followed was mostly a blurred, Emmet could guess he had probably fallen asleep with how groggy his mind was when someone nudged him slightly from the couch, making him groan loudly as this rude awakening.
“Emmet, are you feeling alright?”
It took way too long for Emmet to realize that the person who woke him up and was actively talking to him was his twin, That was bad, He could recognize Ingo’s voice everywhere, but at that moment it just felt like the voice of his older twin was wrap in some sort of filter who make it terribly difficult to register, Emmet was in a worse state than what he was thinking.
Ingo seemed to wait for Emmet to answer, He didn’t realize that he was taking a long time to react because of his lack of energy, He finally started to mumble as loudly as he could without moving too much as his body felt strangely heavy.
“I feel like I am dying brother…”
His twin hummed in acknowledgment, Emmet didn’t have to look up to guess that his brother was moving to get one of his pokeball in his hand “Do you mind if I take your temperature or do you prefer Chandelure to do it?? Because I have the feeling that you must be sick”
Knowing that Ingo remembers how much he hates when someone tries to take his temperature never made him so happy than right now, Emmet had a really good reason for his refusal too, mostly because he was not sure that his illusion was solid enough. “Chandelure please...”
His older twin didn’t ask another question, seemingly accepting Emmet decision, as he slowly backed away before letting out of her pokeball Chandelure, although the habitual sound seemed to be louder than it was supposed to, or maybe it was just him?
“Chandelure could you take Emmet temperature, I am afraid that he might have caught a cold”
“Ingo, what do you mean Em caught a cold, He looks like usual to me” Emmet may be feeling weak, but he could recognize sarcasm anywhere, he would have complained about it if he wasn’t too tired for that...or if Ingo wasn’t here, with a weak sigh he forced himself to move slightly so Chandelure can take like as his temperature, she barely touch his forehead before backing away with a startling noise confirming Ingo's guess.
“Uh…. It seems that you really got yourself sick again Em? I didn’t see the difference at all!! suck to be you” She was laughing at his dismay loudly before continuing “Well, good news for you, your illusion is still solid, you just need to stay focused on not messing up”
He simply grumbled to answer her, knowing perfectly what she meant as she returned to Ingo’s side, Emmet could nearly see her smug look....
“Hmm...well I supposed that we have to go home early today, would you be able to get up Emmet”
“No”
“Understood, do you want my help to get to the apartment?”
“Yes”
Emmet must admit, he may have been more blunt to just avoid talking more than he needed too, As his older twin slowly got closer to help him up, Emmet tried his hardness to not break his Illusion for the time being, Chandelure staying close to the duo like she was supervising them…. To his amusement, Ingo stared at Emmet's face with a disbelieved look when he was able to see it.
“Did you really put your eyeliner before passing out on the couch?!”
“I did, and I do not regret it”

The 2010s Decade of PokéAni (An overview - Part 1 of 2)
Tumblr media
It is now 2020! Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. We are now entering a new decade of new adventures. Before the next new episode (first episode of this decade) that airs this Sunday, I’d like to reminisce the past decade on the Pokémon anime’s most memorable moments. Besides the annual PokéAni Rewind post I did, I want to additionally do a decade’s worth review of the anime throughout the different series from 2010-2019 just for this new year. From Sinnoh to Galar, we’ve seen many major events throughout the anime. Contests, Gym Battles, connoisseur battles, performances, races, leagues, Legendaries, Mythicals, Ultra Beasts, specials, introductions, farewells, evil organizations, shippings, background stories, emotional episodes, and crossover we’d never thought we’d see happen! There were also a lot unique PokéAni films shown within the decade from Zoroark: Master of Illusions to Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution. We've had movies with 2 versions like the games, more telepathy Pokémon, and a new format/alternate universe of Pokémon movies starting with 2017's I Choose You! But right now, let’s just keep our focus on the main series anime for this particular post. I will not be counting Origins, Generations and other mini-specials shown this decade since these were more in the game-verse continuity of the franchise. This might be really long (and annoy some people’s dash), so I’m going to split this into two posts. *These posts will be following the original Japanese air dates, but will still be using the English/game dub names for a universal understanding by all.* So, let’s get right to it! Here are my personal favorite PokéAni moments of each year from this decade, starting with the first half of the 2010s:
2010: Ash vs. Paul - their final battle at the League
Tumblr media
August 19, 2010 With the climax of the Diamond and Pearl series approaching, this is by far my favorite battle in the Pokémon anime (next to Ash vs. Gary in the Johto League) because of how well they developed this rivalry. Paul was a real jerk when it came to training his Pokémon, releasing them when he felt like it. Paul was honestly THE REASON to watch this series because of how well they built up this rivalry up to this final showdown. Every character involved with their story from Cynthia to Paul’s brother Reggie to Pyramid King Brandon, played an important role adding to the story especially when it comes to their Pokémon teams. Paul was also an anime original rival (he shares a bit of similarities with rival Silver from the games) so his character was really fresh and new. The hype surrounded their final battle was astronomical to me! I clearly remember during this time I was still in my sophomore year of high school in the middle of an exam week but all I could think about was this battle!
Tumblr media
It was a 3-parter, but I would like to focus on the decisive outcome. Both had one Pokémon left, Ash had Infernape and Paul had Electivire. All this time, Paul always thought of Ash’s Infernape was weak and pathetic not being able to control its Blaze ability which is why he released it as a Chimchar when it was still under his care. In the end, when thought he won and called it weak once more, the Blaze fully kicks in showed him how powerful it has become ever since training with Ash. In the final moments of the match, Electivire throws a Thunder Punch, while Infernape charges Flare Blitz. When the smoke clears, everyone thought that Electivire withstood that attack, but it was only a few seconds later it would faint resulting in Ash defeating Paul for the first time in their most meaningful battle that they ever shared. It’s almost symbolic as this was once the Elekid that first battled with Ash when he first arrived at the Sinnoh League. This battle was intense, fun to watch and superb storytelling between the two trainers and their Pokémon. But most of all, seeing Ash overcome and proving a stubborn and prideful trainer in Paul wrong by beating him in battle was one of the MOST satisfying feelings for any Pokémon anime fan to ever watch (unless you’re a Paul fan).
Tumblr media
They properly end their rivalry with Paul finally giving the rightful respect to Ash, as he looks to challenge Brandon again to get stronger. Meanwhile, Ash advances to the semi-finals and has a battle with Tobias...we all know how that turned out, but was still a hard hitting battle. But still not as awesome Ash and Paul had. That to me was the battle of the decade! And this was just the start of the 2010s. A bar set so high that no other battle can compare it to, so far.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions from this year: The DP series’ final year! Dawn had some great moments too with her “Dee Dee” (’Pikari’ in Japanese) nickname story to be finally revealed after all these years, meeting her royal doppelganger and getting a Togekiss in the process. Let’s not forget that Dawn also had her first Grand Festival, ending up at 2nd place after Zoey defeated her in the final round. This was also the same year where we saw Monferno evolve into Infernape that helped Ash win his final Sinnoh badge. The return of his old Pokémon he caught in previous regions made appearances in the Sinnoh which was the last time we saw them considering that Ash is now only using the Pokémon he caught in his currently traveling region moving forward after this. Doc Brock is born with a new dream, and how can I not mention the debut of the Best Wishes (Black & White) series?! Iris’s accidental encounter in the wild and Cilan’s gym challenge was a great way of introducing the new characters! Finally, we got to see Ash caring for an abandoned Tepig that was tied to post, and the smoothest and coolest Snivy that Ash caught. 2010 was a great year!
2011: Excadrill trusts Iris again
Tumblr media
September 17, 2011 Ever since Iris was revealed to have another Pokémon besides her Axew, I always wondered how she ended up with an Excadrill that won’t seem to listen to her and just get stuck on its own curled up body in drill-mode as if it doesn’t want to move. This heartwarming episode explains it, and explores Iris’s past growing up with playing with wild Pokémon. This was the same episode they introduced the self-professed “Dragon Buster” Georgia whom would start a rivalry with Iris, forcing her to use every Pokémon she had with her, preferably Dragon-types. When she called Excadrill out, the same thing always happens resulting in being unable to battle. Iris finally opens up about why this happens.
Tumblr media
When it was still a Drilbur, it had been causing trouble with the other Pokémon Iris played with because it was always stealing their berries. Iris decides to teach the little thief a lesson with her own skills to counter its powerful Metal Claw attack, but would fail every time she attempted to. One day, when she finally outsmarted the Drilbur, he ended up getting tangled on vines that he couldn’t get out of. Iris then rescued the Drilbur from getting hurt, and the two became battling partners. During their battles in the Village of Dragons, that Drilbur eventually evolved into Excadrill and would learn Drill Run. When the powerful Dragon Master, Drayden shows up, Iris boldly challenges him to a battle. This would be the mistake that would strain their relationship as Drayden and his Haxarus easily defeated them. Iris was overconfident going into the battle giving commands without realizing that none of Excadrill’s attacks would do any effect on a very experienced Haxarus. It was a crushing defeat that would lose Excadrill’s trust on Iris and her capabilities of being its trainer.
Tumblr media
Fast forward to the night after Georgia defeated Iris, she decides to sleep with Excadrill and tearfully apologizes after realizing all these years that she shouldn’t have pressured it to battle against a very powerful opponent in Drayden without considering her Pokémon’s feelings going into it. It was clear that they still needed more training before going up against a Dragon Master, but Iris selfishly went for it anyways. After the heartfelt apology, Excadrill finally gets out of drill-mode and trains out in the forrest trying to learn Focus Blast. After Iris wakes up seeing its new determination, she decides to train with Excadrill until they perfect the move. With a renewed partnership, Iris has another rematch with Georgia’s Beartic. Although the battle still resulted in a tie, it was the first time we saw Excadrill fully in-sync with Iris, and more importantly is very happy to be his trainer again. The trust between the two is rejuvenated better than ever, and will continue to get stronger until their next big challenge. This is one of my favorite BW episodes because I simply love redemption episodes like these, and this made me appreciate Iris’s character more.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions from this year: The BW series’ first full year! We had 3 Gym battles that year. How can I not forget the birth of Ash’s Scraggy hatching from egg? I miss that little guy thinking its the strongest Pokémon out there. Also, the beginning of the Snivy-Emolga rivalry, Oshawott overcoming his fears opening its eyes underwater to learn Aqua Jet, the group meeting an aspiring filmmaker, and Zorua-trainer, Luke, the beginning of the explosive Don George Battle Club tourneys, Bianca’s father attempting to get her daughter home instead of traveling, Ash & Cilan challenging subway bosses Ingo & Emmet, Unova Champion Alder making his anime debut, another heartwarming Iris episode with caring for a lonely Deino, a brotherly visit from Cilan’s brother Chili, and the Unova Forces of Nature trio made their presence felt after Team Rocket attempts to capture them. Speaking of serious Team Rocket agendas, this year was supposed to feature Team Plasma’s debut clashing against Team Rocket in a double special episode however had to be postponed due to the impactful 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan the week it was supposed to air. These two episodes was scrapped and re-written completely for future plot involving Team Plasma. It was such a shame really considering how much hyped I was for this (I’m sure many others as well at the time). Though I kind of understood why they had to. I was living in Southeast Asia at the time (this was before I migrated to the U.S.), and my country was dealing with heavy typhoons during that same week too. In the end, we never really got to see an epic clash between the two evil organizations as their stories became separate arcs that never even crossed with one another. Team Rocket had to revert back to their old white attires, and had to scrap/retcon Pierce’s character completely. He was one of the more interesting Team Rocket members they’ve ever had, and it’s a shame that we never got to fully see a different approach they were trying to do with Jessie, James, and Meowth’s character having a more serious role in the anime. Maybe one day we can see these unaired specials if they decide to release for a novelty watch, and we’ll all be happy...including myself :)
2012: Ash proves Skyla wrong
Tumblr media
March 1, 2012 In one of my favorite Gym battles, I had to put this satisfying victory on my list. Skyla was one of the more stubborn and prideful Gym Leaders we had in the anime because of her appointment “Air Battle” method where she would predict the outcome of challenger battles mostly based off of type disadvantages. But you know our Ash, “type disadvantage” doesn’t really apply to him and of course he heavily disapproves of what she is doing as a Gym Leader. She would much rather fly in the skies for her enjoyment rather than actually do her job as a Gym Leader doing proper challenges. During the day of their scheduled Gym battle, he hopes to avenge Cilan who tried to prove her wrong the other day that Gym battles shouldn’t be based off what she sees in her head but what happens in the battlefield. Skyla still believed that based on the team Ash was using against her that she’d still be victorious.
Tumblr media
During this 3-on-3 battle, sometimes you can’t predict the unpredictable. When both are down to one Pokémon left, Skyla had her ace in Swanna out while Ash had to bring back his Tranquill who already had been in battle. The sky battle was fast paced but in the midst of it all, Tranquill evolves into Unfezant! Ash finally takes down Swanna thanks to the new moves Unfezant had to offer making him the victor and more importantly exposing how her “Air Battle” prediction was never 100% accurate in the first place. I love episodes like these when characters like these get shown up and learn the error of their ways (and I loved Skyla in the games). After this battle, Skyla officially retires Air Battles, and apologizes to her grandfather that she was wrong all along that it truly depends on how the trainer and Pokémon bond in battle and not just go off on basic type disadvantages. She saw that with Ash and his Pokémon proving him to be a unique trainer that takes all challenges no matter what. It was a great battle and a well-earned Jet Badge for Ash on his road to the Unova League!
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions from this year: The BW saga continues with hard hitting episodes with the final gym battles Ash had to fulfill before entering the Unova League. This League even kicked off by Ash taking out his rival, Trip, in the first round! If you ask me, the pacing of this series has great. The distance between Ash’s next gym battles, and the good amount “fillers” (which some comprise of mini-tourneys like the Club Battles) in between them were great. It was straightforward, even while tackling the Team Rocket Operation Tempest storyline with Meloetta. Speaking of which, it’s been YEARS since Giovanni played a prominent role in the anime, and it was great to see him in action as the big bad villain again. It also marks the big return of Dawn (continuing the tradition of returning previous main PokéAni girl...which actually breaks after this series), and she really blended well with this group! Especially from her friendship with Iris (much to Ash’s dismay xD). And of course had a great bunch of episodes from our favorite Dragon trainer. I was so surprised and hyped and she actually caught a Dragonite! A main character in this show has a DRAGON FREAKIN’ NITE. It took a while for him to actually obey Iris, but she eventually was able to get a hold of this aggressive Pokémon. We also get a glimpse of her pass when we finally got to see the Village of Dragons, and her long awaited rematch with Gym Leader Drayden. Another one of my favorites from 2012, was Tepig confronting his old trainer and cruelly abandoned him (because of being too weak for battling) before Ash rescued him. Ash, the trainer of proving people wrong, with the help of QUEEN Snivy, helped Tepig show his old trainer that he was strong all along by defeating his Emboar & Heatmor in a tag battle. In the process of all that, Tepig evolved into a Pignite in a very satisfying mid-evolution during that tag battle. Oh and how could I forget that Ash dressed up like a cute girl again along with Cilan to help Iris teach some rich ladies a lesson. Definitely gotta note that in here! xD I LOVED 2012 PokéAni.
2013: The bonding between Ash & N
Tumblr media
July 6, 2013 The climax of the Team Plasma/N arc quickly approaches, and Cedric Juniper acquires the Light Stone from the White Ruins near Dragonspiral Tower in hopes to study more about its powers related to summoning Reshiram. Juniper then tells a story on Unovian mythology (“White chapter”) which is about the relationship between Reshiram and a hero whom it had trusted. Eventually that hero’s pure heart will be lost in the riches he will gain. Suddenly a familiar friend shows up to conclude the disturbing tale. N shows up to the scene interrupted Juniper, and grabs the Light Stone away from him because he feels that it is in the wrong hands and should not be examined whatsoever for scientific interest.
Tumblr media
Ash wants to understand why N feels the way how he feels, so he chases after him. The ground gives way under Ash’s feet while running and gets stuck on the floor. The kindheartedness of N went back to help him up, but both ended up dropping deep underground the White Ruins due to the collapsing floor, trapping them from reaching the surface. When Team Plasma arrives, they plan to ambush Iris, Cilan, and Juniper until Ghetsis arrives. But Cedric Juniper’s assistant, who turned out to be Looker, attempts to stop their planned attack with a PIPE! When Coloress arrived to the scene, he successfully brings his machine to take control of the Pokémon who has been helping with the excavation on the site including a huge Golurk! It was looking bad, and there was no way Looker could handle this situation all by himself.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in the underground, N and Ash are having a deep conversation about their ideal relationships between people and Pokémon. N wants people to treat Pokémon like family like what his sisters Anthea and Concordia envisioned, and believes that there are some good in people out there just like Ash who truly love Pokémon. N has spent enough time in previous episodes to know what kind of heart Ash has toward Pokémon. However, he still thinks Pokémon would be better off without people living in peace on their own which is why he didn’t want Juniper to get his hands of the Light Stone in fear of the knowledge he’ll gain and possibly abuse it. Ash defends Juniper’s scientific research for good and believes that he just wants to learn more about Pokémon, just like how much he really wants to be good friends with all Pokémon including Reshiram. I just love N’s character so much and that I’m glad they did a slightly modified version of him from the Black & White games, still keeping his close communication with any wild Pokémon. His ideals with Ash are quite similar, but there was a clash when it comes to how other people treat Pokémon besides themselves. This why I loved their interactions so much because it was just couple of dudes having a healthy discussion/debate with something they both care about. Like in the real world, some people take advantage or abuse the things or riches benefitting them without thinking of others, and N’s truth and ideals symbolizes those real-world problems. Eventually, they did reach the surface. When, N saw Ash’s Pokémon helping their trainer trying dig their way out, he knew that maybe he should give others a chance to see if Pokémon and humans can truly co-exist like partners or family. Even Pikachu adversely overcame Colress’s device that attempted to control him, that costed Ash a bit of physical pain from trying to get to Pikachu. N saw that too, and it changed his views. This is what helped them to later on save the world from Team Plasma’s attack and and foil Ghetsis’s diabolical plans even after awakening Reshiram with the Light Stone.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions from this year: The farewell year of the BW series was bittersweet as we saw the conclusion of Unova League, and the bummer of Ash coming up short again, but still with a great effort. Meanwhile, Team Rocket’s Meowth thought that he could get Colress to leave Team Plasma, but to no avail. Besides getting to know N in the post-league, we got see him battle the Gym Leader Cheren! In the final stretch of this series, they were able to go to the Decolore/Decolora Islands where they had some fun adventures meeting Pokémon like a Jirachi and Beheeyem. We got some old school feels when Ash reunited with Charizard earlier on, and got a Butterfree flashback episode. Professor Oak met-up with them to catch a Rotom, and we even saw Johto’s own Clair in her updated attire searching for a rare Druddigon. Cilan had to defend his gym from an icy female trainer, plus even met another good chef in Brock after parting ways with Ash and Iris! This was turning over to Generation VI and along the way in their Decolora adventures, they met Alexa, a reporter from the Kalos region who brought her Gogoat with her. Then we get our first glimpse of the Kalos region! Remember the out of control Garchomp Ash had to save from the top of Lumiose Tower? Blaziken Mask does...we were introduced to our new buddies, Clemont, Bonnie and later on Serena who would join the group finding for her little childhood friend that helped her at camp. We got to see a fearless Froakie who chose Ash to be his trainer, and a cheekrubbing Dedenne that is under the care of Bonnie in her bag. Finally, Serena’s Rhyhorn racing background, Ash take on his first gym battle against Alexa’s sister, Viola, and Clemont trying to take back control of his gym from a malfunctioning robot. Ahh 2013...this year was the start of my first semester in college, and boy was I entertained during my breaks between classes! Also, the year where I got my “PokémonJesus” name and started being active on Pokémon forum sites.
2014: Ash vs. Korrina - an intro to Mega Evolution
Tumblr media
September 25, 2014 The moment has finally arrived for Ash and Korrina to have their Gym battle. Korrina has been traveling with their group for a couple of episodes on route to Geosenge Town in order to learn more about Mega Evolution from her grandfather, Gurkinn. She fit it really well with the group and has a similar spunky fighting spirit with Ash. At the time, I actually thought she was going to be a permanent member of their group for a while (dang you OP) and I would have been fine with it. Their little adventure is what helped her achieve Mega Evolution with her Lucario. We already got preview of what Mega Evolution can do with the special that aired earlier on, and it is clear as day that Korrina and her Lucario are capable of handling the power of Mega Evolution, despite the earlier difficulties with controlling Mega Lucario. Now that she’s ready, you know our boy is ready to face her as well with full force!
Tumblr media
Their 3-on-3 battle was exhilarating! Team Rocket tried to interrupt it (as usual), but luckily Clemont & Serena takes care of them before even trying to sabotage this long awaited showdown. Ash struggled a bit at first with Hawlucha attempting to use Tierno’s rhythmic battle style, but he soon later realized (thanks to Serena) that he has his own unique battle style that he should use just like he always does. Ash finally battling like himself was able to take down Korrina’s Mienfoo and Machoke easily. But Korrina still has her ace left.
Tumblr media
Of course it was her trusted partner, Lucario whom we saw developing its strength throughout their journey towards achieving Mega Evolution. They immediately utilize their Mega Evolution, and do quick work of Ash’s Hawlucha and Fletchinder. In the final matchup, Ash sends his Pikachu to the field. At the end of the day, Mega Evolution wasn’t enough to counter Ash’s unique battling style as his Pokémon’s hard work and coordination earned him the Rumble Badge. The episode ends with the fist bump of the decade as Ash sets off to his next Gym in Kalos. Korrina to me was definitely one of the best gym leaders that they were able to significantly portray in the anime.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions from this year: The first full year of the XY series has been great, especially Ash traveling in a quarter for the first time since the Advanced Generation series. We saw a couple of debuts like Ash meeting his Hawlucha, Clemont catching his Chespin, and reuniting with a Luxio that turned out to be the Shinx he befriended during his childhood, Serena catching her first Pokémon in Pancham, plus her rivaly with Miette on Ash on Pokémon Performing, the gang meeting Kalos Champion Diantha, introducing new rivals in Shauna, Tierno and Trever during the summer camp episodes, Sky Battles, and the Battle Chateau. One of the more emotional episodes was the lonely Espurr in the “haunted” mansion, while one of the more creepy episodes was the evil Malamar trying to take over the world! And, I can’t forget the time where they had to meet their mirror selves in where Ash was a complete crybaby and Serena was the aggressive on in the group xD Ash also faced off against Grant in rocky gym battle, while Serena had to defeat her mother in a Skiddo race for her mother to approve her dream on becoming a Pokémon Performer. 2014 was truly a Mega year for the Pokémon anime, and the year I even joined the #pokeani fandom here on tumblr. It started with this portion of the XY series :3

So my brain’s been in overdrive as of late in terms of Lego Movie AUs and it’s come up with something like “what if human/no-meta au where Rex just ditched Emmet to suffer the same way he did in Undaar?”
Well I ended up with Desertpunk!Emmet and a de-aged Rex so take this as you will:
Basically Rex shoves Emmet into an escape pod and jettisons his past self off to Undaar while he slips away to bring hell on the heads of his once friends. Just like before, Lucy and the others have no way to find Emmet, but this time by god do they try. It takes four years of searching and blatant sabotage attempts by Rex, but they eventually catch a signal beacon out further than they've ever been.
And that's how they find desert wanderer Emmet, older, wearier, but still firmly Emmet, as he absolutely refused to stoop to Rex’s level. It was a hard 4 years and Emmet did his damnedest to survive, constantly trying to boost a signal beacon until it could be picked up and living off of poisonous sand worms as his only source of food and water on a planet lit in eternal twilight. He has absolutely no idea how long its been. But it’s enough know that when he sees his friends again, he starts crying and hugs them desperately.
When he’s finally found, Emmet is close to skeletal, tiny scars littering his face and body from bad sandstorm encounters. He’s draped in a patched and frayed canvas cloak, his clothes little more than rags and pockets filled with machine parts. His face is covered in a long scarf, though one of his eyes is covered in a loose bandage, sealed shut from a nasty eye infection (he suspects the eye itself still works). He’s surprisingly clean shaven and his hair cut short and jagged, a clear act of defiance to not echo Rex whatsoever. He keeps a weird set of goggles meant for a three-eyed alien, repurposed to wear in sandstorms. Always in his hands is an odd metal staff/harpoon he made for hunting, which he has a hard time letting go of. Unfortunately, he's also partly forgotten how to talk, not helped by his voice being reduced to a raspy whisper after a bad poisoning. But he's still his sweet, loving self and is far more tactile, soaking in as much physical contact as he can. And he is startlingly relentless in his positivity. When they ask him how he stayed sane, stayed himself, Emmet just smiles and whispers he did it because he knew it would make ‘him’ mad.
And he made absolutely certain that he could never become Rex, mainly by actually learning how to regulate his emotions and figuring out the whole ‘deal with frustration in a productive way’ by himself. Because he could bitch and moan and lose his temper all he wanted, but shit still won't get done. So he kind of starts disregarding his anger, tucking it away until there's an appropriate time to use it.
Any time he felt close to losing hope, he’d remember that horrible sneer on Rex’s face right before he jettisoned him. And by god did he want to wipe that smug look off his face with the most spiteful optimism he can muster. He ends up weaponizing 'kill them with kindness' to incomprehensible levels. (“I’M GONNA HUG AND KISS THAT GUY ON BOTH CHEEKS AND TELL HIM I FORGIVE HIM BECAUSE I LOVE HIM! HE’S GONNA BE SO PISSED!!”)
But things are still hard since Emmet has to relearn how to be around people and was clearly traumatized by the isolation, needing almost 24/7 physical contact lest he break down crying.
Not too long after Emmet returns home, he’s still adjusting to enclosed spaces and having to talk when the Systarians offer him something that could help ease the transition: An orb encasing a rare magical time spell that could rewind the clock on his life, making it so that the years he was lost never happened to him, physically and mentally. Emmet is hesitant about it, not really sure if he wants to do something so drastic, but the Systarians reassure him that even if he decides against it, they’ll understand. They just wanted to give him more options moving forwards and if he doesn’t need it, they’ll be happy to take it back and recalibrate it for someone else. Though uncertain, Emmet chooses to keep the spell on the off chance he changes his mind.
Of course, Emmet’s return doesn’t go unnoticed by a certain someone...
When returning from a day of therapy, Emmet is only half-surprised to find Rex already in his room waiting for him.
And Rex is pissed.
His ploy didn't work. Years! Wasted!! All of this in the hopes that Emmet would crack, but no! He was too stupid to!
Emmet just rasps he refused to give up, which was a lot easier when he realized what the simplest way to push Rex’s buttons was. With his warmest, happiest smile, Emmet just tells Rex: “I forgive you.”
The enraged scream Rex makes barely sounds human as he moves in to kill Emmet, knife in hand. But Emmet doesn't go down easy, raising his staff/harpoon up in defense and drive Rex away with it’s reach. Their fighting destroys a good portion of the room sending things flying, including knocking  the little spell orb loose. Emmet grabs it, but then Rex has him in a choke hold and is about to jam his knife straight into Emmet's throat.
So Emmet smashes the spell orb in Rex's face.
Rex has no idea what this is, but then magical lines and symbols spread over his body, lighting him up in a magical glow. Emmet gets released and he can only watch as Rex begins panicking because he can feel the spell affecting him, “What did you do to me?! WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME???” Rex starts looking younger and younger, his angular face turning soft, adult hairs falling away as he screams at Emmet, his eyes wide with horror even as the lines around it fade, “What is this?! What the fuck is this???!!! You can't do this! I am your future! I am everything you’re supposed to be! This isn't supposed to happen, why is this happening?! I c- I can’t… why? Why?? WHY???!!!”
Emmet tries to calm Rex down, but Rex is watching himself as his cheeks turn soft and rounded, the last of his jawline eroding away, his clothes sliding loose and baggy off his shrinking frame, his gloves and boots easily sliding off, his hands and feet missing all sign of wear, now unblemished, soft, and small. The years keep melting away as his mind fails him, his breath hitching as he sobs uncontrollably, his voice turning to a high-pitched childish wail. He feels everything slipping away from him, the world now looming terrifyingly large around him. He’s lost and confused and scared out of his mind, “Wh-Wh-why c-can't I remember?! I-I-I’m s-sup-supposed to… I-I want my mommy… no-! no... please... I-I… d-don’t wanna die…”
Then strong arms wrap around him and he hears a man shushing him, telling him it's OK, he's safe, he's going to be OK, it's going to be OK.
And the little boy, too confused and frightened, just whimpers his last hiccuping sobs as his eyelids grow heavy and slip shut, everything fading away to nothing soon after.
Emmet is left holding an unconscious six-year-old, horrified at what he's done. He didn't think the spell would work like this, he thought it'd only go back before he became Rex, but apparently just how far wasn't specified. He breaks down sobbing against the boy’s still body, begging Rex to come back, he’s so sorry, please just come back…
Lucy and everyone are just as baffled when they burst in on the scene and even more so when Emmet tells them what happened. While they run diagnostics on the boy that was Rex, Emmet is consumed with guilt. He never meant for this. Does this mean Rex doesn't exist anymore?? Is the boy just a young Emmet now?? He’s so sorry, he wouldn’t have done it if he knew. Emmet can’t stop crying. He forgave Rex, he was always going to, but now it doesn’t matter because he killed Rex completely.
Lucy reassures him this is probably for the best. Rex wasn’t willing to change, wouldn't compromise, not after how Emmet so thoroughly defied him. At least this way, Rex gets a clean start again.
Emmet goes stiff and grabs Lucy, insisting Rex can't go into foster care again, it nearly broke them the first time and he's not going to let it happen to him again. Lucy calms him down and says that's fine, but what? Are they going to take care of him? Everybody in the room turns to them just as Emmet says with his desert stubbornness, "If I have to, then of course."
How well do these idiots do raising a babby Rex/Emmet? Well that’s probably for a second part, because uh.... Rex isn't quite done yet...

Try, Try Again
This is a Rex lives AU where, at the end of the movie, the flux capacitor is not destroyed, and Rex escapes to the past. This time, he arrives early, disguises himself, and takes Emmet’s place in Apocalypseburg. In this way, he plans to toughen Emmet up while simultaneously keeping a closer eye on Lucy.
I have not ever done fanfiction before... so hopefully this turned out okay!
Chapter 1 (2668 words)
The Rexcelsior appeared in a brilliant flash of light, with bright bolts of raw electric power coursing across its hull before flickering away into nothingness. The ship, despite the dark blue of its exterior, stood in stark contrast against the backdrop of space due to the faint glow of its many humming engines. Inside, pacing back and forth across the main control bridge, an increasingly anxious Rex was attempting to re-evaluate his master plan.
He had come much too close to failure for comfort. If he hadn’t used his Deus Ex Block-ina at the last moment in order to teleport back to the ship, then Lucy could have very well destroyed his flux capacitor and, by extension, everything that he’d worked and suffered for. His scowl deepened at the thought of all that planning, effort, and pain flushed down the drain because simply because he’d failed to properly prepare for every possibility.
The weight of failure sat heavily on his shoulders. It’s not fair, he thought. I was so close. His plan had been so perfect, and he’d carried out the execution flawlessly. Tricking Emmet and destroying the Queen’s space temple had been child’s play. All they had left to do was make a clean getaway, but… everything had just started falling apart.
Rex hadn’t wanted to take Emmet to Dryar. If he had had any other option, he wouldn’t have. But, of course, Emmet hadn’t given him a choice, had he? Emmet was just being stubborn; he just didn’t understand.
Rex couldn’t be blamed for that.
He stopped pacing. The repetitive motion had started making him nauseous at some point. With a weary, tough-guy sigh, he walked over to the main console. The instruments adorning the dash lit the room with a soft, ambient blue glow. On top of them sat the Block-ina, a conveniently pocket-sized tool that apparently taken up the worrisome habit of intermittently spitting out sparks and smoke sometime between now and when Rex had first left it here.
Another sigh escaped Rex at the sight of how badly it had been damaged. He wasn’t especially broken up over the loss of the device, after all it had served its purpose well, and he could just build another one pretty easily.
Of course, he thought bitterly, I wouldn’t have even needed to use it if it hadn’t had been for... her.
He had been surprised when Lucy had shown up in Undar, having never entertaining the thought that she might have followed him. Thinking about it made something in his gut twist uncomfortably. She must have… It was… She had probably come there to stop him personally, right? Finding Emmet was just a nice bonus, was all. That made a lot more sense, in Rex’s opinion. After all, Lucy had always been about the world-saving, rebel hero aesthetic. The knot in his gut unraveled, content with his explanation.
However, if Lucy was willing to go that far in trying to save the world, then Rex couldn’t afford to let her get the drop on him a second time. He would just need to keep a closer eye on her this time.
Rex smiled, an easy cocksure grin. A new plan started formulating in his mind, one in which he could easily arrange to keep watch on Lucy, with her being none the wiser.
“COBRA!” He barked out, turning away from the console. A nearby raptor stopped typing, twisting her long neck to look over in his direction.
“Give me a current time readout on the Giant Screen.” At his command, the raptor nodded and clicked a few buttons on her keyboard. Turning back to the windshield, Rex watched as the display flickered to life, printing out the date in an oversized, white, blocky font.
JUNE 4TH   |   06:20   |   MONDAY
Rex hummed in approval. “Excellent work, team. Looks like we’ve got a whole week left before Our-mom-agedon starts.” With a smug grin, Rex leaning onto the dashboard, adopting a particularly cavalier pose. “Obviously,” he continued, “that’s waaay more time than I’ll need to work my magic.”
A raptor screeched from somewhere in one of the weapon hangers. “Does that mean we could take a day off?”
Rex laughed.
“No.”
If raptors could sigh in resignation, they would have done so now. As it was, they settled for screeching slightly quieter. Unfazed, Rex continued with some gratuitous exposition.
“Here’s the plan, squad. We should begin to break orbit over Apocalypseburg shortly after o’eight hundred hours. At that time, we’ll activate the super secret cloaking technology that I lifted from Wonder Woman’s invisible jet. Once we’ve landed, I’ll find Emmet and get him onboard.”
One of the raptors screeched up at him questioningly. “How will we find Emmet?”
Another raptor, one standing near the fax machine, screeched back. “I could make wanted posters!”
“No need,” Rex replied dismissively. “It’s a Monday.” Mondays were Lucy’s day to patrol the wasteland, which meant that she and Emmet would have to hang out in the morning, before she left. Usually that meant that he that Emmet would start his day off with a coffee run and then meet up with her afterwards.
“If we play our cards right, which of course we will, then we can intercept him at the base of the Statue of Un-Liberty.” Rex tapped a few of the console’s controls, pulling up a large digital map of Apocalypseburg. A blinking red dot appeared at the spot he’d described.
“Everyone got that?” Rex asked, watching as a sea of raptor heads started bobbing up and down in affirmation. “Awesome. Start bringing us into orbit then. Meanwhile, Ripley, Connor, I want you two to start readying the cloaking device.” The raptors screeched to confirm their orders, and then turned to their respective workstations with a renewed sense of urgency.
Leaving them to their tasks, Rex once more turned his attention to the windshield. The sounds of raptor noises and clicking keyboards seemed to fade into the distance. Somewhere beyond the dark glass, Apocalypseburg was waiting. With a start, Rex realized that, after everything that had happened to him, he’d gotten so distracted with time travel and scheming that he had just, never bothered trying to go home.
For a moment, he wondered when exactly that had stopped being one of his goals.
At the thought, a cold, hollow feeling seeped into his chest. It was an almost alien sensation, one that he thought he had left behind in the deserts of Undar. Fortunately, Rex was tough now. He knew how to deal with these kinds of feelings, how to patch and fill the places of him that felt empty. His tool of choice, anger, had never failed him yet.
Summoning strength from his internal well of rage, Rex clenched his fists at his sides and forced his mouth into a vicious grin.
I’m going back home, he thought, and those suckers aren’t gonna know what hit ‘em.
*******************
The sun was shining in Apocalypseburg this morning. Sure, it shone every morning, to the point that it had long since baked the ground into desert sands, but that fact didn’t mean that Emmet couldn’t enjoy a little bit of morning sunshine.
As usual, electronic strains of music were playing in his ears as Emmet jauntily made his way towards the giant statue on the edge of town. He was beginning to consider singing along with the peppy song when something else suddenly drew his attention.
It had only lasted for a second, but Emmet would have sworn he’d just seen a shooting star. Instinctively, he squeezed his eyes shut, concentrating on his wish.
More wishes, he thought as hard as he could, more wishes, more wishes, mo-
“Hey there, buddy!”
Emmet’s eyes snapped open at the sound of someone’s voice. Sure enough, standing in front of him was a stranger, some guy in blue, with disheveled hair and a cocky grin.
“Whoa,” Emmet whispered to himself. Something about this stranger seemed to exude charisma and toughness. Maybe it had something to do with the way he was trying to inconspicuously flex his biceps. Whatever it was, Emmet was definitely intrigued.
“Hi there!” He shouted, causing the stranger to flinch slightly at his volume. Abashedly, Emmet shrugged off his headphones.
“Sorry about that, friendo,” he chuckled. “Um, but my name’s Emmet! What’s your name? Are you new here? I feel like I’ve never seen you before. Which is weird because I know like, everybody here.” Emmet bobbed up and down in excitement.
“Whoa, whoa, slow down there, compadre!” The stranger laughed as he strolled towards Emmet, stopping at his side and giving him a friendly, albeit rather forceful, slap on the back.
“Oh,” Emmet jolted forwards from the impact, juggling his cups in an attempt to not drop either of them. “Sorry about that.”
“Why don’t you just take a breath, and I’ll introduce myself.” The stranger walked over to a nondescript hunk of debris, kicking a foot up onto it and striking a cool pose - one which would have likely made a dope freeze frame.
“The name’s Rex Dangervest,” he announced loudly. “Ace spaceship pilot, world-class dinosaur trainer, and all-around tough guy extraordinaire.”
He took a dramatic pause, before stepping back down, and continuing. “And, I've been looking for you, Emmet.”
“For me?” Emmet asked incredulously. “But why?” For a moment, his face grew uncharacteristically serious. “Did Jeff send you?”
“No, no, no,” Rex replied with a dismissive wave of his hand. “I’m just a big fan of yours.”
“A fan of mine?” Emmet’s jaw dropped. “But why?”
“Well, you’re the Special, right? Emmet Brickowski? The guy that saved the universe from Lord Business five years ago?” Rex stepped in closer, swinging an arm around Emmet’s shoulder.
“I… I guess?” Emmet sputtered. “I wasn’t really the Special though, you know.”
“So what,” Rex shrugged nonchalantly, causing Emmet to glance up in disbelief.
“So- So what? But it- that- I wasn’t really a hero! That’s so what. I know you’re new here, but seriously, just ask anyone and they’ll tell you that I’m not.”
“Really?” Rex asked, a hard edge entering his tone.
“Yeah,” Emmet’s voice grew soft, as he lowered his gaze. “I’m, um, not tough enough, they say.”
Rex hummed thoughtfully, stroking at his chin in a deliberately pensive motion. “Not tough enough, huh?”
“Yeah,” Emmet replied. “I mean, I don’t really get it, if I’m being honest. Personally, I’m not a fan of all the spikes and stuff, but still. It’s what everyone says.”
“What if I could fix that?”
“What do you mean?” Emmet looked back up at Rex, who was grinning widely now. What a friendly guy, Emmet thought.
“What if I could help you become tougher? Become the guy that all your friends want you to be?” Something eager bubbled up in Rex’s voice as he asked.
“I don’t- ”
“Become the guy that Lucy wants you to be?”
In retrospect, this should have been the moment that Emmet realized something was terribly wrong about this interaction. There was no way that this stranger could have known Lucy’s name. However, in the moment, his thoughts were somewhere else. Yesterday, he’d asked Lucy if he might be able to patrol with her, just once. She’d said no, on the grounds that “things can get like, really real out there, Emmet”. He saw the look in her eyes, like she was kind of scared for him, or maybe just disappointed in him. He saw that look a lot recently.
But, if he was tough… like Rex was promising… then maybe things could change.
“Okay,” Emmet said, his newfound conviction clear in his voice
“Hah! You made the right choice, kid.” Rex reached up and ruffled Emmet’s hair with a gloved hand. “Come on then, and I’ll show you to my ship.” Rex started to walk off, with his arm still around Emmet’s shoulder, but Emmet didn’t move to follow.
“Oh, um,” Emmet muttered, as Rex turned to look at him suspiciously. “It’s just… I’ve got to meet up with Lucy first. I always get her a morning coffee before we hang out and talk. But, uh, if I explain that I can’t stay today, she’ll totally understand.”
“Emmet, I want you to take a look at this.” Rex reached into one of his vest pockets, pulling out a small, colorful flyer. Emblazoned across the front was an advertisement for Rex Dangervest’s Toughness Seminar and Obstacle Course.
“Can you tell me what it says in the small print at the bottom?” Rex asked, pushing the paper towards Emmet’s face.
“Um, it says ‘A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity’.”
“That’s right.” Rex’s voice was low and serious. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Do you know what that means, Emmet?”
“That one of my shooting star wishes came true?”
“No, Emmet. It means that I’m only going to make this offer once.” Rex’s grip tightened on Emmet’s shoulder. “If you don’t come with me now, then you’ll be stuck as a soft, hufflepuff loser forever.”
Dread pooled in Emmet’s gut at the thought. A future of disappointing his friends? When the chance to make them proud was right here?
“I mean, I guess Lucy will understand if I have to miss one hang out sesh...”
Rex’s benevolent smile returned. “Exactly! And think about how happy she’ll be when you show her how tough you’ve gotten.”
“Yeah!” Emmet cheered. “You’re right! And then we can hang out even more because I could do patrols with her and the other guys.”
“Totally,” Rex agreed. And, while maintaining his firm grip on Emmet, the two walked off into the desert.
*******************
It wasn’t very far to the Rexcelsior, but it still took a while. Rex had made it to Emmet so fast earlier because he’d done a super cool flip out of the hanger bay while the ship was still a few hundred feet above ground. Of course, that meant that now Rex wasn’t… super sure where the ship was parked. Fortunately, the Rexcelsior like most top of the line vehicles had come with a keychain dongle that made the ship beep obnoxiously whenever pressed. Rex had pawned the thing off on Emmet, who seemed pretty content with pressing the button over and over. In return, Rex had taken one of the coffee cups and started helping himself to its contents.
Emmet wasn’t really drinking from his cup anymore. Rex had said that drinking black coffee was the first step to becoming tough, but the caustic, bitter taste was making it a pretty tricky first step to master. Little sips made it much more tolerable, but also unfortunately made the drink take even longer. Emmet’s own cup must have been pretty bad too, seeing as how Rex kept making comments about how gross and sugary it was. He had finished it awfully fast, though.
Probably because he’s already so tough, Emmet thought, taking another tiny sip of his still disappointing coffee.
When he next pressed the dongle button, the previously distant beeping was much closer than he’d expected.
“We’re here.” Rex said, as he took the keychain back from Emmet’s hand and stepped past him.
“Really?” Emmet asked, looking around in confusion. “So, is your ship just like… really small?”
Rex snickered. “Not quite.” As if on cue, the ship materialized, looming impressively over the two men.
Emmet gasped, and continued to gasp for such a long time that it almost seemed like an action designed to garner laughter from an adoring studio audience. Rex stood nearby, patiently waiting for him to run out of air.
“This,” Rex gestured dramatically once he had regained Emmet’s attention, “is the Rexcelsior - the absolute toughest ship in the universe.”
A panel hissed open behind him, prompting Emmet to gasp once again. With a huff, Rex took his arm, pulling the two of them together into the maw of the ship. Once through, the door slid shut behind them, and the ship vanished back into transparency.

Teddy Wright Dialogue (Far Harbor)
Teddy Wright is the doctor in Far Harbor. He’s nursing a patient named Andre, gives the player the quest to do the Captain’s Dance, and is overall a good guy in a crappy place. He’s hard of hearing, so a lot of his dialogue starts with him repeating a line or confused.
Intro Scene
Mariner: Meaning no disrespect, doc, but if he ain't getting better... Andre promised me his gun. I got a writ for it here. All official.
[Disgusted] You want his... what? Gun? His body's not cold yet, so what's his stays his until then.
Mariner: Mr. Lee's lined me up a deal. More than enough caps to get off this cursed island. I need that gun.
A miserable rascal like you doesn't deserve to be on this island. You should be praying for your "friend" instead of reading up on his will. Now. Get the hell out of my clinic.
Greetings
[Irritated] You another vulture circling over Andre's body? He ain't dead. Wait. [Pleasantly surprised] No, it's a mainlander. Welcome to my little clinic.
If you need doctoring speak up. I wish I had time for some proper conversation, but my work's never done.
Is this a social visit, or is something ailin' you?
Well, speak up. What's ailing you?
Good to be hale and healthy, eh? Need anything else?
Healing Wounds
Let me take... Oh, that's not so bad.
Could've been a lot worse.
Nothing too bad. Still, risky... to leave untreated.
[Concerned] Oh, this is a doozy. Hold on, this may hurt. A lot.
Dear lord. This... is going to be tricky. Hold on.
And you're still walking around? Let's get you patched up right away.
Healing Radiation
[Patient says their radiation level is normal.] Someone on the island that's rad free. Must be my lucky day.
Well, let's begin the treatment, then.
You might say radiation is my specialty. Let's begin.
Everyone on the island's got a touch of it. Let's fix you up.
Curing Addiction
[Patient says they don’t have any addictions.] Clean and sober, eh? Good for you. Need something else?
{Curing someone's addiction. / InPain} Let's get you settled then.
{curing patient's chem addiction / InPain} Take a deep breath, this may be some rough going.
{curing patient's chem addiction / InPain} With a bit of Old World chemistry, we can get that squared away...
Player Can’t Pay
I can't afford to run a charity, sorry.
I'm low on supplies, I'm afraid I don't work pro bono any more.
No caps, no doctorin'. Sorry.
If you don't got caps, I can't afford to treat you.
I can't afford to work for free. Sorry.
If you scrounge together some caps, I'd be happy to help. Otherwise...
Andre
“What's the diagnosis on your patient there?” }Poor Andre's my patient over there. He spent too long a spell in the Fog. You may think you know your mainland radiation poisoning, but we got our own special brand here.
Player Offers to Help
A.) You say - what? You? Help? Well, poor Andre's got it bad. Good as dead... I suppose there's no harm letting you have a poke. [Gentle warning] But I'll be watching you.
B.) You say - what? You? Help? I'm tempted, but if something goes wrong folk around here will get in a tizzy. And they got enough mistrust of mainlanders. Sorry. People around here have had a hard go of it. And manners on this island are a bit... sparse in the best of times. Mainlanders tend to be a bit friendlier all told, so I always enjoy the extra company.
[Player heals Andre] Well, I'll be. I think you may have done it.
[Player heals Andre] I'll keep looking after Andre, but I think thanks to you, he's got a fighting chance.
[Player heals Andre] Your patient, Andre, he's walking around. If I'm not too careful there's going to be two doctors in the Harbor. *chuckle*
[Player doesn’t heal Andre] Dark days. Lost another patient - Andre. It never gets easy. Please tell me you're feeling well, at least.
Player Caught Stealing
The Harbor's got a dim view of thieves.
Not again.
Player Isn’t Responding
What? What? You say something?
Certain medical conditions can cause loss of time like this.
Sadly, I ain't got nothing better to do than wait on you.
The Captain’s Dance
You are a curious specimen. Despite our "friendly" town doing its best to chase you out, you keep helping us ingrates all the same. I got to ask: Why do you keep at it?
“You're good people in some dire straits. Figured you could use a hand.” Huh? *chuckle* You running for office? If that's the truth, we don't deserve you.
“I think I'm done helping you guys.” [Apologetic] Well, hold on now. There's reasons for people's... color.
“I help mainly for the caps.” [Respects the answer] Huh? What? Caps, eh? Make some money and help at the same time. Respectable.
“Does it really matter?” I suppose not.
Most folk here are set in their ways, yes? Makes no difference how hard you try to get in good with them. Heck, it took my family three generations before the Daltons would sell us a heel of bread. But there's a way - a downright insane way, mind - that you can turn even the most stubborn fool around.
(Player says no) [Thinks it’s the right call, but still persuasive.] Prudent. But, if you change your mind... The Harbor needs you, even if they're too stupid to realize it. Most of the folk on this rock believe they've been given the God given right to walk here. Way I figure it, if you got the moxie to survive - you earned your place.
Change your mind? There's a way to make these damned fools respect you.
(Player says yes) [Enjoys telling the story.] Legends say the toughest, meanest, and outright craziest hopefuls would... chum the waters and lure out the worst the island could throw at them. Once the would-be Captain killed the Mirelurk Queen, or Fog Crawler, or what have you - they'd invite the whole island to feast off the bounty. [Serious] You do this, well, you won't be made Captain - but you'll earn respect. Everyone's respect.
"Why are you helping me?” My job is to heal people. And not just from the physical type of injuries. The island's in trouble like it's never been. And you might - just might - be the medicine we desperately need.
"So if we throw this... dance it'll really change their minds?” [A little nervous] The Dance hasn't been done in living memory. Some people think the tradition is dead. [Confidently] But its history is soaked deep in this island. You do it, and it'll turn heads for certain.
“I'm ready to be become a legend, then.” You what? Ha! You crack me up.
“I'm not sure about this.” I'd think you were a fool if you were. But... if you want to do it.
There's an old Mirelurk feasting grounds by Emmet's Causeway. A treacherous stretch along the coast. Go there and throw any kind of meat you got into the water. All that blood and viscera will be sure to attract attention. And then wait. I'll make sure there's a witness or two. Prove to the rest of these clods you belong.
 Feast (after the Dance)
Everyone. Everyone. Times are hard, but this here feast is proof that we can turn things around. Now I know mainlanders have been responsible for all manner of harm.  But this one is special. This one did the Captain's Dance.
Witness: It's true, I saw it!
So in my book, he's not a mainlander any more.... He's one of us.
After Speech
[Amused] If these knuckleheads don't trust you now... Well, fuck 'em, right?
I expect folk will be more talkative now, might even have some more work for you. Maybe hit up Mitch at the Last Plank.
"Seriously, thanks, Teddy.” You are the most peculiar main... person, I've ever had the occasion to meet.
“Haven't I helped enough?” Wha-What? *chuckle* Hell, I got no idea why you've done half the things you do. If you're done lending a hand, can't say I blame you one bit.
“Have any leads on a paying gig?” What? Why yes, Mitch, he owns the Last Plank. I think his family is in a spot of trouble. And I heard some of the dregs at the end of the dock were looking for help, too.
“You need anything else, Teddy?” [Belly laugh] Ha! You just don't quit. No, no I don't need a damned thing. Ha.
Take this. And, if you're inclined, socialize. It's your party after all.
Hope you enjoy your shindig.
You actually did it. Haha.
Don't say I didn't warn you. The Dance is dangerous.
Settling Land for the Harbormen
Avery: Well, I won't stop you. But until we deal with the Children of Atom - settling the island again... It could blow up in your face.
At this rate, we may be running low on medical supplies inside a week or two.
Avery: We're expecting another boat soon. Small Bertha: Excuse me.
[Irritated] Smalls, we got no time for you.
Small Bertha: The mainlander cleared out Echo Lake Lumber Mill. But we're no good here. Harbormen need their own land. Something to protect and hold.
[Thoughtful] I was wrong about you.
Avery: What?
[Dissmissively] Not you. [To Small Bertha] You.
Bertha knows this island better than you, Avery. We give folk some Condensers, materials, and a chance to build defenses and we'll survive all right. And thrive even.
“I can lend a hand, too.” You would? Then their odds are sure to be better.
"Anyone wanting to settle this island's crazy. It'll kill you.” It's been trying all my life. Hasn't done it yet.
"For the price of a few Condensers, you give people real hope. Sounds like a good deal to me.” And even if they don't make it, they go out with their heads held high.
"Could this really work?” I don't see why not. And even if it doesn't, instead of starving on a pier they die on their own land.
Give them the Fog Condensers, Avery.
Avery: Come, Bertha.
You might want to check up on Echo Lake. Bertha's friends would no doubt welcome you. And take this. You never cease to amaze.
Examining Avery’s Skull
[Asked to examine a skull] Not something I hear every day.
There are some tests I could run. Seems important to you. Hand it over.
This? This can't be? It's impossible, right? [Realizing] No, no. Avery's been dead for years now. Acadia's done rigged the game, haven't they? [Scared] This proof you got there. What do you plan on doing with it?
"If you were in my shoes what would you do? Have a good long drink is what I'd do first. On one hand, people need justice, and criminals need to pay. But folk can go from god-fearing to lynchin' awful quick. The real question, though, is what you're planning on?
"I want to resolve this with the least amount of collateral damage.” Collateral what? Ah yes. You got good instincts there.
“I want DiMA to pay for what he's done.” Make him what? Pay. No argument here. It's... diabolical.
Listen, I ain't telling no one nothing. If a single word got out... Well, it'd be whole mess of bad. If you have a powerful need to bear your soul... talk with Avery herself. I know she ain't human, per se, but I know her. She's a pain in my side but a decent sort. Whatever you do, don't tell Allen Lee. Otherwise there'll be a whole lot of blood.
Misc Comments
I fear something terrible happened to those synths by Acadia.
It's hard to lose an appetite for hate. Might be best the Children of Atom are gone.
A lot of blood spilt both ways between us and the Children of Atom. Not an easy thing to forget.
DiMA's a poison. Give it time to take hold, and this island will tear itself apart with accusations.
I suppose if we exiled Avery, she'd just be someone else's problem...
You just couldn't keep Avery's secret? Dark days ahead.
Might be the best damned thing you've done on this island is making some folk realize just how small Allen Lee is.
People are coming around to you. Tradition is a powerful thing.
Acadia did us wrong. But... So much blood.
Heh? What? You have to speak up.
You did good by Smalls and the dock rats.
If something ails you, let me know.
Not enough hours in the day to keep everyone patched up.
We'll muddle on. Harbormen always do.
The Harbor ain't for the weak of heart.
Heard anything from Small Bertha? The dock rats went to the Lumber Mill and haven't been heard from since.
I haven't heard anything from Small Bertha. I worry for that girl.
Taking that Lumber Mill's the best news the island's had for months.
Nothing good's going to come from those condensers that got sabotaged.
[Teasingly] If you need to convalesce after your epic fight against the Red Death... *chuckle*
One way or the other, a doctor's gonna be necessary.
If it must be done, might as well see it done right.
That skull I looked at for you... It's better if it stays buried. Forever.
Well, you know where I am.
I have a feeling we'll see each other again.
Be careful. I'm tired of stitching folk up.
