One tusk grows the wrong way!!! I came across this elephant in the bush. From far I did not notice first that his one tusk grows backwards. It was strange to see. Baby elephants are called calves. These little giants weigh about 115 kg at birth and stands about 1m tall. Calves eyesight at birth is not very good, so they recognize their mothers rather through touch, sound, and scent. Rescued elephants need hay....please donate and share =) Posted @withregram • @sanctuary4elephants Adding new elephants to the sanctuary fold is a joy, but it can also bring with it some challenges. While the girls get their primary nourishment from what grows in the habitat, we supplement that food with produce and hay. As you can imagine, seven elephants eat a phenomenal amount of hay: bales upon bales, the total of which fills several large shipping containers. Over the years, we’ve worked with a number of suppliers both near and far, and haven’t had great quality from most. (The last test batch we got from a nearby supplier was baled wet and grew mold inside - yuck. It wasn’t fed to anyone.) Of course, we want to provide the girls with the best possible hay at the most reasonable price and our current supplier fits the bill. You came through for us when we posted our recent wishlist - buying out our needed supplies faster than we could add more items. Thanks to you, we now have extra inventory that will be brought over by future staff coming from the US. You now have the chance to help not only five elephants, but seven! (And those of you who didn’t have the chance to purchase items from our wishlist can help directly today.) We are asking for your help because two more elephants means we are in need of buying a full truckload of hay. Hay for the next two months will cost us $8,100, including shipping. That makes the cost of each bale approximately $18. Whether you want to buy one bale or 10, every dollar makes a difference.
