disney marketing is doing its animated films sooooo dirty. elemental came out father’s day weekend and has a beautiful father/daughter story at the center of it, but you wouldn’t know it from the advertising. elemental could’ve (and SHOULD HAVE) been a slam-dunk, but disney didn’t capitalize on what sets it apart from similar movies. they did the same thing to strange world and they’ll probably do it to wish, even though that is supposed to be their big milestone celebration.

Was scrolling the elemental tag when something caught my attention. The background and colors in this scene

seem to match the colors in this one at the end

They get to touch, reaching Ember’s dream for them and letting their colors mix, only for Wade to evaporate in her arms

And wow am I sad!

Are we just not going to talk about how some of the scenes in Elemental are absolutely intimate and tender or?? Like are we really gonna sleep on the hand touching scene, and when they hugged, and when Ember shed tears for the first time? Are we REALLY NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT ALL THAT? ARE WE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW GENTLE WADE IS, I WILL FIGHT Y—

It's a little weird that people are continuing to use that "fire and water people are a bad metaphor for racism because they'll die if they touch" criticism for Elemental, because they actually address that in the film.

There's a sequence where Wade decides to touch Ember, and Ember is reluctant at first because she thinks it'll harm them both, but all that happens is they produce steam, so they fully embrace each other and realize that this whole idea of water people being dangerous to fire people (or vice versa) is wrong.

You know...just like so many real people who think interracial marriage is more harmful and bad than it actually is.

I guess these critics were in the bathroom during that sequence or something.

Me actually watching it:

Oh wait, it’s a story of an immigrant family who come with nothing and build a community for themselves and their people and the weight of debt you feel to your parents who sacrificed for you to succeed but the way that that success sometimes isn’t what you want and how parental love can feel conditional when there’s a lack of clear communication and—

Not to sound dramatic but that scene where Ember and Wade touch for the first time, start dancing and he whispers "I'm so lucky" to her actually changed me as a person

No because that new fire girl and water boy Pixar movie is actually really sweet like it’s really cliche and not perfect by any means but it made me cry and I wish nothing but the best for Wade Ripple and Ember Lumen

Ngl, this deleted scene from Elemental really caught my interest at when I saw the announcement that Elemental was going digital.

And now I finally found it!
