Christina Vantzou - No. 5  No. 5, the fifth collection of modern classical compositions from Kansas City-born, Brussels-based composer Christina Vantzou, is more like a dream than an album. Sequences rise and fall with their own rhyme and reason, unrelated to any musical structure or sense of narrative. A dank, dripping cavern opens up onto a night sky, radiant with shooting stars; in the distance, footsteps crunch on gravel and the sound of crickets. My review of @christinavantzou's fabulous No. 5, on @krankyltd, is up now on Spectrum Culture! 2022 / SONDA FESTIVAL
SONDA - festival of electroacoustic music and audiovisual performances 12/11/2022 Brno Observatory and Planetarium (CZ)
Tomoko Sauvage (JP) David Granström (SWE) Tadej Droljc (SLO) Jiří Y. Suchánek (CZ) Tomáš Vtípil (CZ) Trychtýř (collaborative project)
The SONDA festival sets out to explore the vast territory of experimental electroacoustic music, live electronics, audio-visual performances and sound art and dive deep into its captivating corners. In acoustically exceptional spaces, the festival will present the work of artists who combine the medium of sound, light and moving image in an unconventional way, reflecting the latest audio-visual technologies, as well as proven analogue methods. In addition to established artists from the domestic and international scene, SONDA will provide a space for presenting artistic ideas of the emerging generation of musicians, composers, multimedia and sound artists. Many works are custom made for the festival as part of an unrestricted and non-hierarchical collaboration between artists across different disciplines. The first edition of the SONDA festival took place on 12 November 2022 at the Brno Observatory and Planetarium. Capitalizing on the specific visual and acoustic properties of the planetarium dome, the festival will feature musical performances, AV shows, light and multimedia installations and artistic interventions. The lineup of the first edition includes five foreign and local artists. The festival will also present the work of an international collective of artists brought together by the Trychtýř Project. The group, by means of jam sessions, is putting together brand-new artistic content to be presented in the form of AV performance in the planetarium building and interventions inside the premises of the observatory. The SONDA festival was born out of pure enthusiasm. It all started with a rather random encounter between an avid music nerd with no musical education (Jan Lichý) on the one hand and an established artist with rich professional experience and academic background (Jiří Y Suchánek) on the other. The synergy of this encounter gave birth to the idea of organizing a progressive interdisciplinary showcase that seeks to broaden horizons, entertain, connect, and push boundaries, and which aspires to make a great addition to the local cultural scene.
Festival dramaturgy: Jan Lichý + Jiří Y. Suchánek  Stage design: Karolína Kohoutková Graphic design: Alina Random Video: camera + editing: Martin Dominik Kratochvíl
The SONDA Festival is organized by the SVITAVA - transmedia art lab z. s. with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the South Moravian Region.

Sähkökitarakvartetti II out now. Compositions by Marja Ahti, Clara de Asís and Lauri Hyvärinen. Sähkökitarakvartetti’s II continues the quadrilogy chronicling their multifaceted approach into contemporary electric guitar music. II features compositions by three young composers who have developed their unique sound as musicians and composers in the field of experimental and improvised music. Marja Ahti’s “The Threshold” is built around unusual guitar tunings and the EBow, an electronic device which produces sustained timbres reminiscent of a bowed violin. “Everyday less, less everyday” is a meditative composition by Clara de Asís. Slowly moving soundscapes of tones interfere with each other creating harmonic beatings. Sähkökitarakvartetti member Lauri Hyvärinen’s composition “Tropes”, also makes use of unusual guitar tunings. Whereas the other two compositions on the album are calm and slowly moving, “Tropes'' showcases almost violent uses of the guitar with distorted and screaming sounds finally resolving to sparse fields of harmonics. Sähkökitarakvartetti: Juhani Grönroos, Lauri Hyvärinen, Jukka Kääriäinen & Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson. Recorded, mixed & mastered by Teemu Korpipää at Ambience Studios. Cover art by Aino-Maija Metsola Layout by Georgi Eremenko Tropes composition supported by Taike. Album production supported by Koneen Säätio. Stream here: Spotify TIDAL Apple Music

Immerse yourself in the avant-garde world of electroacoustic music as we welcome Arnaud Rivière to #KirkwoodBallersClub on Thursday, May 18, at eyedrum art & music gallery. Arnaud Rivière is a French experimental electroacoustic musician, free improviser, instrument designer, and sound installation artist. He creates a spellbinding sonic landscape using a rudimentary electroacoustic setup, which includes a repaired turntable, metal rods, jumper cables, batteries, springs and contact microphones. Furthermore, the evening's lineup offers up an intriguing collection of unconventional Atlanta based performing artists, including Klimchak, Aaron Dylan Kearns, .document, Anucon, Vela Oma, Marshall Avett, Not Mrs. Rentz, and Ipek Eginli. Doors open at 8 PM, and performances start at 8:30 PM sharp. The event is open to all ages, and while admission is free, donations are warmly welcomed to help offset Arnaud Rivière's travel expenses. Kirkwood Ballers Club is a monthly experimental open forum occurring at eyedrum art & music gallery every third Thursday. Celebrating its 19th year, the KBC has evolved, traversing various venues such as the old Lenny's Bar, the Highland Inn, 11:11 Teahouse, Star Bar, and more, even extending its reach to Brooklyn's Zebulon Concert Cafe. Nonetheless, KBC remains an Atlanta-based gathering, with its unique ethos deeply rooted in the city's cultural fabric. #kirkwoodBallersClub #avantgarde #electroacousticmusic #noise #noiseshow #eyedrum

Daniel Teruggi - Sphæra (Recollections GRM) "Picture the air, rare and clear, at the Kármán Line, beginning to tremble, shiver and shake. Lightning crashes, thunder sounds, rain begins to fall on bare earth, creating a river of mud, cascading into the sea. Or, perhaps, a radiant crystal, crafted from passing an electrical spark through a noble gas." My review of this wonderful electroacoustic/early electronic album from Daniel Teruggi, who would go on to become director of the GRM from 1997 to 2017 and director for research and experimentation at Ina from 2001 -2016. Brilliant philosophical early electronic compositions - it's not every day i get to mention Plato in an album review! Lovely mastering job by @senufoeditions and incredible design/layout, as always, from @stephenomalley74 Click the link in bio to read the full review at Spectrum Culture. . . . . . #DanielTeruggi #Sphæra #Spheres #GRM #Plato #neoplatonism #musiqueconcrete #electronicmusic #earlyelectronicmusic #archaicelectronics #electronicmusichistory #electroacoustic #electroacousticmusic #philosophicalmusic #thephilosophyofmusic #experimentalmusic #acousmatic #acousmaticmusic #recollectionsgrm #musicjournalism #albumreview #albumcover #musicdesign #graphicdesign #StephenOMalley #JSimpson #albumreviewer #musicjournalist #SpectrumCulture #forestpunkrecommends  https://www.instagram.com/p/CnVNc_dPoSq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
