Just remembered my brain getting stuck in gamer mode yesterday where I was watching one of Sean's videos (Scariest Videos on the Internet #3, I think?) and he said something like, "how are you supposed to leave the catacombs" and without missing a beat, I said: Just dig upwards, like in minecraft. And it took me a solid 2 seconds to realize that... you can't dig upwards... you can't stack dirt and stone on your feet in real life.

it's cool for story obviously but it's also such an act of mercy that the most annoying enemies to fight are also the ones that you can just walk past if you want

I keep trying to explain to our kitchen spider that their funnel web is designed to be hidden in the grass and won't work in plain sight or on flying insects like fruit flies, but they've taken over the entire windowsill so I guess we're just roommates now

Stories of the Past
Maedhros regarded the blanket-lump on the sofa for a moment.
Maglor, at his harp in the corner, shrugged one shoulder, but didn’t stop the slow, sweet tune he was coaxing from the instrument.
Maedhros supposed, by the slightly wavy dark hair ruffling up from the edge of the blanket, that one of the twins was having a bad day. He’d had plenty of those in his life, and he understood the urge to bury oneself in blankets and ignore the world a bit.
The buried twin made a soft acknowledging noise when Maedhros rubbed his back, and he turned into his arms when Maedhros wedged himself onto the sofa behind him.
Maedhros pressed his grandson into the back of the sofa and tucked the dark head beneath his chin. “When your father was a child,” he murmured.
Maglor plucked a cheerful chord, abruptly swinging the mood of the tune he was playing around the something more playful.
Their grandson made an approving noise and nuzzled deeper into Maedhros’ embrace.
“The watch captain at Amon Ereb at the time was an edain woman named Beldis,” Maedhros continued. “And she came into my service because her brother had been killed and someone needed to protect her law-sister and her nephew. As far as she was concerned, the funniest thing in the world was watching Elros sass me.”
“He did, too,” Maglor agreed, playing an emphatic chord.
“Powers, he sassed me,” Maedhros said. “First thing he ever said to me was to call me rude.” Maedhros hummed in harmony with Maglor’s tune for a moment, and then said reflectively. “One day, Beldis decided to teach your father and your uncle to shoot the reflex bow favored by her people.”
“Oh I remember this,” Maglor said, and the tune changed again, something lighter, lilting, an echoing memory of childhood laughter in a dark time.
Maedhros closed his eyes and picked up the tune, Singing softly.
It was hard not to think of the grandson in his arms as young, though he was older than Maedhros had been when he’d followed his father across the sea. Still, there was an innocence about him, a sweetness and warmth, that made it difficult for Maedhros not think of him as boy.
The boy cradled to his chest turned his head so he could watch Maedhros’ memory of Elrond and Elros play out across the rug.
Maedhros closed his eyes as he Sang, better to feel the memory his Song was bringing to life, of Elros, snapping himself with the bowstring, of Elrond trying to care for his squirming brother’s welt, of Beldis, chiding them to keep trying, and the swear words Elros spewed when he snapped himself again.
Elros had utterly refused to say where he’d learned some of the words, a few of which were so vulgar no one had dared say them in Maedhros’ hearing in centuries, and Beldis had been laughing too hard to back Maedhros up when he tried to discipline Elros.
Maglor had offered to wash the young peredhel’s mouth out with soap, as their mother had done the first time she’d heard Celegorm say a swear word, and Elros had replied, “Try.”
This had only made Beldis laugh harder.
Maglor had taken the twins to their room, grounded and about to get a stern talking to.
Maedhros had turned to look at Beldis. “Just like my nephew at the same age,” she replied to his arch look.
Maedhros let the memory and the Song fade. “Truth is,” he murmured into the dark hair against his shoulder, “I was only annoyed at Beldis because her laughing made it so hard for me to keep a straight face.”
Maglor, fingers stilling on the harp briefly, said indignantly, “You! I had to actually be the one to yell at them!” He scoffed. “I had to be the one to explain to Elros that he wasn’t allowed to call his bowstring a  void spider’s eggsac.”
Maedhros snorted. “Never did take,” he said reflectively.
There was a soft sigh against Maedhros’ neck.
Maedhros stroked his back tenderly. He let his voice turn lilting and low. “Elrond had a look that could pin you in place and make you feel like even your ancestors should be embarrassed. Elros just swore. That was always the easiest way to tell them apart. Even when they were trying to be confusing Elrond never remembered to swear enough.”
Maglor picked back up the soothing background music.
Maedhros hummed along for a while, feeling his grandson start to drift to sleep.

Hi! I was really excited to hear you have shitpost edits of sonic, do you have them uploaded here on your blog or elsewhere? Omg I wanna see 🤩
Most of them are uploaded on my instagram and have since been burried under an abundance of posts. That was at the very beginning of my Stobotnik obsession and also a byproduct of the time I regurlarly made "serious" edits of them.
I could reupload them here on tumblr but I gotta warn you, pretty much all of them are like specifically German memes or reference the German dub of the movie. Me and @emperorharuhi we're mostly just making fun of the German and French-Canadian Dub of the movie. Did you know that in the French dub they literally call him Agent Rock and also it's not latte with Austrian goat milk it's cappuccino with llama milk.
The eggsac line in German is also 100x more questionable than it already is. There is also a bunch of light swearing in that dub for some reason.
I could subtitle most of them but honestly most of them would kinda lose the joke if I did that. I would do it if there is like a demand for it, which I can't imagine.
Aside from super specific German memes, I did make a little edit of the Badniks with Portal Turret voices, that was cute.
Haru also has multiple funny edits putting audio from the Sonic Real-Time Dubs and old Lee clips from Megasteakman over the first movie which I watch and laugh at to this day.
Anyway, yeah, I'll upload some of the stuff on here, thanks for reminding me that I used to be a little funny.

i saw a photoset of amblypygi egg development; do their bodies really cave in so much to accommodate the eggsac?
yep! I don’t have Marina on me to show but when her belly is full of food, the lower segments are flat instead of bulging outward. carrying eggs does seem to deform her segments and she won’t “fix” that until her next molt

@technobladebrainrot submitted: (no ID needed) this is my red wasp nest that has set up on the side of my house. they’re surprising chill and no one really goes over here so i let them stay. i think they’re used to me coming by to watch them, because they let me get fairly close. other wasp nests i’ve experienced would come after you if you got within 10ft of the nest.
a garden spider has set up shop right next to them too for easy access to food lol she’s super chunky, and she’s already laid one eggsac.
Ooooh I love these wasps! I bet they are indeed used to you and realize you’re not a threat. Designated Wasp Friend. THAT SPIDER. What a brave lady, I hope she catches lots of delicious meals and all her babies live long happy spider lives :)

here's the tweaking of a imp species for rewrite reasons. also some mating patterns+some other worldbuilding-
the eggsac is made from the internal meat layer of the female's reproductive organs, so technically the outer layer is essentially just... imposter jerky.
in their native habitat, they are prone to hanging their eggs from high up places to avoid egg thieves/predators. in crewmate ships, this often takes the form of them stashing their eggs in vents, from the ship's rafters, or any other high up place.
their reproductive style is a mix of haremic and monogamic, with the male actively assisting the females who stick with him through the rearing season, but during the mating season, he will try to mate as many times with multiple females as possible. females are somewhat similar, because their multi-chambered insides allow multiple males to sire their young.
also in rougher times it turns into a full blown battle royale in there since the unlaid young can and will cannibalize/absorb their siblings for nutrients. this does mean that gravid females and hangry bitches who will eat just about everything that they could get their teeth into.
younger males are smaller, and tend to lack the ormentation that the older males have, so they can't really compete in head-to-head combat until at least their frills reach full ormentation size and color.
young males and females look quite alike, so a older male either has to choose between potentially chasing off a female or a potential rival, and the vast majorty of the time, unless he catches a younger male mating, he will accept that risk, because chasing off a female would be more detrimental.
fully mature males are also larger than females.

I've been getting increasingly obsessed with lepidoptera (butterflies & moths) lately and now I'm doing the opposite of being fooled by camouflage where like. I see a dangling bit of dead leaf and go "ooh, a chrysalis!" I see a twig and go "a caterpillar?!" and I keep forgetting other bugs exist I saw a large spider eggsac and was trying to figure out what kind of moth makes such a small cocoon
