Kingohger G Rosso Show #3 Summary (1/2/24 & 1/3/24)

i went to see the g rosso show with @valentinezlove! recap/summary on the whole show + my thoughts below~ ❤️🤍 (warning: spoilers, really long)

SPOILERS AHEAD for basically the whole plot of the g rosso show (though i left some stuff out) i believe this show is going to be livestreamed at some point so pls be aware if you're going to watch that and don't wanna be spoiled!

also, despite seeing this show TWICE i am so bad at remembering things and get distracted way too easily. i left out details and scenes im not confident in my memory abt😭 also this recap is a personal account so its probably jeramie heavy and there Will be giramie ramblings from my annoying ass

THE SHOW

the show starts with kamejim scheming evilly, as kamejim does. he calls forth grodie (!) to do his thing, and he appears as a recording on the big screen. grodie begrudgingly brings some dead sanagims back to life and he's like “ok go crazy/好きにして” and then kamejim orders them to go forth and destroy humanity/the whole planet. the sanagim are about to attack the audience on the front row when suddenly we hear giras WAHAHAHA and the five kings, gira, himeno, yanma, rita and kaguragi descend onto the stage!!

cue really epic fight

at this point i was like ah i see i guess jeramies coming in the middle of the show… but then NUH UH. SUDDENLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES A SPIDER DROPS DOWN FROM THE CEILING ON HIS WEB IN THE AUDIENCE!!

the first time we saw the show on the yan/hime/gira day, our seats were a bit further back so when jeramie came down it was in a perfectly clear view in front of us!!! i SRSLY GOT JUMPSCARED I THOUGHT I HAD A HEART ATTACKK on the 3rd we were sitting really close to the front so i kept looking behind us in anticipation when i knew jeramie was going to make his appearance eheehe..

also when jeramie appeared he said “otto! dont forget about me!” and gira was the first to go “jeramie! you came!” 🥺

anyway they finish beating up the zombie sanagims and kamejims all like fufufufu i am cooking up an evil evil plan to destroy this planet Best Beware u silly kings and then disappears

after the fight the kings convene and discuss what they should do abt kamejim and the new super villain threat that is the galactinsect king and the jesters. but how could they ever beat them? what power is possibly strong enough?? wherever will we find a source of such power?

suddenly kaguragi goes aha! and he begins to recount to everyone an old myth he’s heard about a village back in toufu

apparently theres a 2000 yr old legend that a comet once fell near a village and it left behind an object the village ppl called the "star drop" (星の雫), which looks like a magical orb

the village ppl have kept the star drop for generations and legend has it that the orb has mysterious powers to grant anyone a wish, perhaps we can use it to defeat kamejim

upon hearing the wish part the kings all go WHAT!! and lean in with interest except gira who doesnt react and just kinda stands there (he doesnt seem that interested …?)

the spotlight goes onto yanma and we hear him monologuing abt how he wants to use the wish to make his super computer (i think its hilarious he never gives up on this)

the spotlights goes on himeno and she says she wants a cure all that can cure any wound (🥺)

the spotlights on rita and they wish for a super deluxe limited edition something something moffun

the spotlights on jeramie and he says, in a very dramatic voice, この2000年生きる語り部が知らない伝説なんて、気に入らない、気に入らないぞ！💀 (a myth that I, this 2000 yr old storyteller has never heard of? i don't like that!)

we dont get to see what gira thinks regarding his wish 0_0 and technically jeramie too bc THAT WASNT A WISH KHGDDDH and also kaguragi because obviously we can never look into his mind hes sussy! (more on dat later tho….)

unbeknownst to the kings, kamejim was hiding and listening in to their conversation the whole time. an orb that can grant any wish…? interesting…

cut to the team arriving at the secluded, very hidden away village. its full of old looking tombs and temples overgrown with vines and such

suddenly from the audience a bunch of people come in parading one of those long dragon puppets and doing a festival-like chant. apparently this dragon is a symbol of the village spirit/guardian born from the comet myth. i think???? i cant remember this part really well because Both times i saw the show i was ALWAYS distracted by gira playing with the dragon really cutely in the background (he’d ruffle its hair or pat its head and the actor would hit gira on his head not to touch it and he would bow in apology😭 🙏)

also upon arriving the village jeramie says "in all my 2000 yrs of living, even i never knew about this place" (i love how they bring up his thousands of years wandering as a cryptid and how much he loves chikyuu and knows it so well,,)

they meet the village elder, whom kaguragi greets but instead of welcoming his king the elder yells at all of them to go home, you shouldnt be here and theres no such thing as the star drop here!! leave us be!! the myth that theres a power that grants wishes here is just that, a myth!

and the teams like zamnnn so we went all the way out here for nothing…? yanmas like kaguragi im gonna beat the shit out of u and in the end everyones like Welp i guess we should go home and everyone except jera start to exit the stage. gira is like wait guys are u sure!?! and watches them go off one by one. in the end jeramies like come on now and either drags gira away or on the show i saw on jan 2nd he casually gently pushes gira on the chest (?) WOULD BE BETTER IF I DREW IT TO EXPLAIN BUT IT WAS CUTE😭)

and then jeramie leaves the stage too but then a few seconds later he walks backward and reappears from the curtain and goes な~んてね (just kidding/as if)

he says “honestly, those kings really cant read between the lines huh? this village is obviously hiding something they dont want us to know”

and so jeramie alone walks in the other direction and leaves to the right of the stage

~the middle of the night~

the village elder is sneaking about, two other village men join him, theyre all whispering very discreetly

the elder is like “are they gone yet?”

“sir yessir theyve gone.”

elder says smth like “good! we cant let any of them get their hands on the village treasure that weve guarded for generations''

the elder decides to go to the tomb to ensure the star drop is safe

cut to jeramie sneaking around trying to find where theyre keeping this dang orb. while he’s looking for it he suddenly hears footsteps, turns out its yanma and himeno who ALSO came back to sneakily look for the orb themselves , jeramies like oh crap seems like theyve caught on as well, he goes to hide behind a platform and this part is absolutely ridiculous like whats wronggg w him tbh

like at first when jeramie goes to hide he lies on his side and had his whole one leg up before belatedly putting it down. yanma and himeno are fighting above him and each time they get closer jeramie would flinch dramatically and at some point hes just striking different poses 😭😭😭 also the one i saw on january 3rd when yanma and himeno get way too close to jeramie, yanmas actor accidentally hits jeramie with his sword probably bc he didnt know what improvised pose he’d be in lol…

we cut back to the elder at the tomb, he says some spell in an unknown language and the tomb opens up and reveals the orb (sitting on a pedestal) he goes to take it but doesnt realize that rita was standing there the whole time

the elders like “what are u doing here!!” rita says something abt how they can tell when ppl are guilty of hiding something/lying 👁👁

then suddenly gira waltzes in and is all like “wooow the stars are so pretty…. wait rita? and elder? hi!! man the stars are just so pretty out here i that i got lost wandering around, can u show me the way back? wait a minute whats that youre holding? :0” (note: GIRA WHO LOVES STARGAZING REALLLL)

elders like NONE OF U CAN HAVE IT!! BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN IF THIS FALLS INTO THE WRONG HANDS!

ritas like anyway whatever give me that orb, and lunges at the elder to grab it

at this point himeno and yanma arrive to the scene and himenos like that orb is MINE!! and they all fight over it

rita ends up getting it and IMMEDIATELY they wish for “moffuns warmth” and then moffun actually appears fr on stage 😭😭 while rita is busy going crazy over moffun and hugging it the elder chants another incantation which appears to have reversed the wish and moffun goes away. yanma gets a hold of the orb next but right at that moment jeramie swings by on a cord and snatches it from him!!

jeramie lands on the ground, orb in hand all pleased with himself but then.. someone sneaks up from the shadows behind him and its kaguragi!!! and he has his sword to jeramies neck while hes backed against a wall and jeramie goes otto~ (it was sexy as hell tbh)

so kaguragi has the orb now and hes like “so it seems the myth is true. thank you everyone for confirming this for me”

everyones like kaguragi... could it be…? u were just using us to get the star drop yourself this whole time!!!??

and kaguragis like maa maa dont worry abt it (FORGETTING A LOT OF DETAILS HERE but something abt how if a village in his country has been keeping an object so powerful it only makes sense it should be in his hands or something , maybe?)

but anyway no one wins this round because THEN suddenly kamejim appears and takes the hot potato orb from kaguragi

and hes like ufufufu and then uses the star drop to make his super evil plan to destroy the planet come true, and when he says his wish suddenly the orb starts going crazy with an immense dark force , its glowing purple and its all crackly like a thunderstorm is inside it, the ground shakes and everything around them starts falling apart

the elders like nooooo and tries to take the orb back but kamejim flings him away and the elder is knocked unconscious

in the end, gira manages to get a hold of the star drop but he struggles to keep it still in his hands bc of the wild dark energy, gira tries to repeat the incantation he heard the elder say earlier but it isnt working, then gira is like “i have no other choice!” and it looks like gira holds the orb close to his chest and the stage goes dark as he screams and then a few moments later he reemerges as…… ~Dark Gira~

Gira is silent for a moment but then he growls in a rlly low voice “i am the tyrant king… and i will destroy this planet!” and starts blindly attacking everyone

evil gira doesnt do the classic evil laugh at all… hes eerily silent and mostly growls and groans a lot. he moves creepily like hes possessed, sometimes he crouches rlly low as if hes on all fours like a wild beast, he pounces on kaguragi and pins him to the ground like a predator 😱 (it was scarYyyy). his evil voice is also super super deep (huge win for the actual!evil tyrant gira enthusiasts…)

everyones like gira whats wrong with you!! gira snap out of it!! dont you recognize us?!?! but it seems gira has completely taken in the dark energy of the orb into himself

giras so powerful in this state that he defeats all the other kings. jeramie was the last to try and fight gira and smth ppl pointed out that Indeed i noticed was true on my rewatch is that evil gira mercilessly went for jeramies bugnarak arm 😭(AAAA)

in the end everyone can only lay defeated on the ground. jeramies dramatic ass says “ah, is this how the story ends? what a tragedy..”

the curtain slowly closes on evil gira standing alone center stage as he once again yells “i will destroy this world…!”

later, kaguragi, yanma, and rita gather together to reassess their plan. himeno joins in late, she just got done treating the elders wounds. he should be fine, and jeramie is looking after him now.

(note: i was internally screaming at this. ever since ep 42 when himeno was taking a look at injured racles and went “jeramie” and jeramie immediately knew to Web up his wounds i was like oh… theyve done this before. himeno and jeramie have been spending time tgt treating ppl/himeno has been teaching jeramie things and vice versa OOUGH MY BELOVED HIMENO AND JERAMIE FRIENDSHIP. JERAMIE NURSE IN TRAINING REAL) (also fuel for my 1677282 different headcanons regarding jeramie and how he deals with his own injuries... himeno getting mad at this 2000 yr old spider w 2000 yr old habits and teaching him how to take care of himself..)

rita is like no wonder the village ppl guarded the star drop so fiercely…

its a great, dangerous power that no one person should wield..

ah… so the myth is actually a burden/responsibility kaguragi let his ppl carry for 2000 yrs…. kaguragi wanted to help his own ppl, not selfishly use the wish for himself..

yanma deduces that the orb takes on the intense feelings of whoever makes a wish, and to cancel out the dark energy in gira right now, they need a feeling thats more powerful than That

but what?? from where and how??

then suddenly, evil gira reappears, still possessed by the dark energy

himenos like i know!! surely his feelings for us kings/our memories together as his friends are stronger!!

(the kings look at the audience)

OF COURSE!! we’ll use the power of everyones emotions here!! everyone, lend us your help, at the count of three, everybody shout gira’s name!!

whenever the audience shouted giraaaa, he gets hit with a sparkly effect, its working!! yanma goes hypeman cheerleader mode and is like CMON IS THAT ALL YOUVE GOT!! SAY IT LOUDERR

and we shout gira a couple times and finally we shout the incantation (it was rlly cute and sweet sobs)

a transition, gira is back to normal. the orb is also back in one piece

jeramie conveniently comes in after the whole thing all “ah, is gira back to normal already?” 💀💀 tuxedo man meme ass…

anyway now that they have the star drop again hot potato is BACK on and they fight kamejim for it one final time.

gira chases after kamejim and theres a funny bit during the chase where kamejim goes into the audience and gives the orb to one of the audience members and hes like “that persons holding it” and giras like oh sorry excuse me! could u please give me that orb? KHAHSHSJSN

then FINALLY once they got the orb back, they manage to actually destroy it for real so that smth like this never happens again. and thus the kings save the village from ruin! the elder is thankful to kaguragi and the others for saving them but ah… now this village no longer has a legend of its own. but then jeramie says “but we have rewritten it by creating a new legend! the story of the six heroes who saved this village!” our 思い (feelings) will be a new legend~

jeramie has this long winded ass curtain closing speech, going on abt probably the power of friendship and 思い and stories that we have to 心に刻まないとね♡ (carve it into our hearts) . i didnt see it on the show i saw but yes, this is where the infamous giramie hug happened :') the one i saw on the 2nd, jeramie said this while putting his hand on giras shoulder and leaning into him, on the 3rd he put a hand to his heart and looked into giras eyes…or visor. he titled his head all cutely and shit too ARGGGHH

and of course jeramie finishes the entire show by going …とさっ♡ (or so the story goes) and since gira and jeramie are standing next to each other center stage the curtain frames the both of them right before the show ends... aaa...

END!

G ROSSO WAS SO GOOD AND FUN AND CUTE, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! if you can, def tune into the livestream theyre doing at some point which is gonna feature the non suit actors in the show!!!

thanks again @valentinezlove for going to see both days w me~ because these days had the special stage greeting from the actors (and thats a WHOLE NOTHER THING IVE MADE SEPARATE POSTS ABOUT), there was no after show handshake with the suit actors but i still got to shake kuwagata-ohgers hand walking into the venue ;7; i will never emotionally recover...

revalink but they're kpop idols in the same group and people make those stupid ass dating analysis/speculation videos about the both of them being a couple because their bickering comes off as flirting to everyone else 😭

stop bc this is literally yoonmin AJDBANDJ the bickering like an old married couple is SO THEM

at first I was wondering how would revali and link even be in the same group? and ik in this post you mentioned that revali probably wouldn't even be in a group, he'd be a soloist. but then I was like:

what if they were in a survival show together and they debuted in the final lineup 😵

I'm gonna be so fr I have never watched a survival show, not even i-land or boys planet, so idk how any of it works, but imo revali seems like he would be in first place throughout the show even though international fans don't like him, they're like how is he winning?? but revali is just so good (and the show is probably a little rigged since the judges have favorites, but it's not bc revali bribed them- he wants to win because he deserves it, not because of some bribery)

meanwhile, link is the fan favorite; he's charismatic and good looking, he regularly goes viral on tik tok, he does a freestyle like that one guy from bp, I think his name was woonggi? and the fans absolutely lose their mind, and link shoots up to first place. ofc revali immediately sees link as a threat, and so their (one-sided) rivalry begins (link is just vibing but revali is absolutely livid that he's second. out of 100. like that's stil reallyl good revali u can chill!!)

throughout the rest of the show the two are fighting for first place, every other voting period they've switched spots, and it's clear that they'll both make the final cut, but the real question is who's going to place first?

it's link. of course it is.

anyways they debut with hmm like 5 other ppl so it's 7 of them in the group (idk who though, don't ask me 😊🙏). and at first it's SO AWKWARD like revali is bitching about link every chance he gets and the managers are like.. can u pls stop. we keep having to edit the clips of you so you can maintain a somewhat respectable reputation 😭

the editors can do whatever they want, but at the dorms, revali and link are totally fighting each other, like istg whoever their leader is has to do some serious damage control every time one of them says something out of pocket.. revali starts talking abt how link shouldn't be on the team and the leader is like woahh hey let's not do that

that doesn't stop revali though :/

ykw does make him stop? after a huge fight where revali definitely says some things he didn't think through (I'm not gonna say bc it hurts my heart to think abt), link storms out of the dorms, and the leader (istg I'm gonna make it teba atp) is like dude u fucked up.. go apologize to him

and revali bristles and is like why should I?? but deep down he feels super uncomfortable and guilty for this whole thing, he's like have I gotten so lost in this rivalry that this is just who I am? he doesn't voice all that but he does leave to go find link, who is predictably in their practice studio. but when he gets there, he can hear crying through the door. and when revali listens closer, he hears, "I don't know, aryll, sometimes I just feel like I don't belong here. I don't know if-" a pause, a muffled sob. "I don't know if I want to do this anymore." silence, then: "i just want to do something right for once. it's never good enough."

revali backs away from the door; he's heard enough. he goes back to the dorm and straight to his room without talking to the other members. he shouldn't have been eavesdropping. and besides, if link wants to quit the group, that's not his problem, right? at least revali will finally get the spotlight.

but the thought of link being gone, it leaves a cold feeling in his gut.

umm this got dark fast and I don't like the direction I went in.. maybe their rivalry can be more lighthearted 😊 but yes anyways revali gets this wake up call and is like ohh maybe I shouldn't be an ass! and after seeing link in a new light he gains a new respect for him. so the next day after letting link calm down and after revali gathers his thoughts, he goes to talk to link and they're able to work out their differences! just kidding 😇 it's not that easy. but their dynamic does shift, and it becomes less toxic and the bickering and friendly challenging becomes more reciprocal rather than being one-sided bullying

atp it's been a little over a year since their debut, and their fans have CLEARLy noticed the positive difference in their dynamic. so ofc the crazy delulus start making dating rumors abt them! 😦 because there's no way they could have started being so nice to each other for no reason, something definitely must have happened! the rest of the fandom is clowning the shippers like ur actually so dumb for shipping them

as time passes the two are able to look out for each other but still have a sort of friendly rivalry! my brain is running out of energy to come up with things but they're literally yoonmin from bts, like look at this compilation of them bickering and tell me that's not them🧍🏻‍♀️

fans see these interactions and go crazyyy like maybe those delulu shippers weren't so delulu after all 😦 clearly they have a way different bond than with the other members, and they're constantly acting like an old married couple with the constant back and forth over literally the tiniest things. and ppl fr start making compilation videos of all their interactions and SWEAR that there's something going on, and it's literally just.. revali and link arguing whether , or link getting revali a bottle of water on stage, or revali and link on a team together during a variety show

bickering aside, though, they would privately support each other in their own ways 🥺🥺 imagining revali staying up late at the studio to practice until his voice is raw, the other members of the group have all gone to bed in the dorms but link notices that revali isn't back yet (omg bc they were roommates??👀) and so he gets up, prepares a mug of oolong tea, and brings it to the studio for revali. he makes him take a break to rest his voice, and after much convincing, link brings revali back to the dorms and makes him go to sleep

in turn, revali — who knows how vulnerable link really is to harsh criticism — takes extra care to compliment link when he thinks he does well, and to give guidance in a more constructive way. if they have a particularly good performance, he'll tell link that, and if he notices link having trouble with a certain move or part of the song, he'll talk to him privately abt it and help link improve!

honestly this whole au is giving me serious 13 iconic yoonmin moments vibes, like imagine revali stumbling across one of these revali x link compilation videos and actually looking at the way they interact with each other and going like oh. oh.

AAAAA anyways this post is so messy and the beginning didn't even end up being something I liked that much but I had fun writing this 😊 ty for the ask oomfie this was lots of fun to think abt!

Hi!! Just saw a couple of things about Colby's situation with Stas and Shea, and read a post about Shea. But I've always wondered what is the deal with Stas, like is she obsessed with Colby or did something almost happened between them? I kinda get weird vibes from her but if you could explain the situation with her that would really help

i kinda explained it in the one long post here, but to give the briefest of overviews, no. they never dated, never hooked up (from what we know). but my guess is that stas had a crush on colby, kat tried to get them together when the core four became a thing, stas played house a bit too much for colby's liking and then he annexed her.

i think there's a lot more to the story, both literally bc we don't know everything and also bc kat also distanced herself away from stas for a period time, so that screams to me like stas did something and they all backed away from her in the summer of 2022. but by october of 2022, they were okay again. she went to WWWY festival with them, went to their halloween party, hung out with colby and brennen on new years. the only hiccup they seemed to have this year so far is on his bday he didn't hang out with anyone other than shea. but i think that was bc sam and him were going thru some stuff, and she just chose to hang out with him and kat instead.

and as for if she's obsessed, i would say yes but i think she's calmed down a lot (but only one of the few that think that lol). i think bc she had a crush on him for such a long time, it became more and more apparent as time went on. she would comment about colby on ppl's tiktoks. she also would like edits of just him and her. she has posted pics of just the two of them (nothing too crazy, just selfies) behind paywalls. her poem insta seems to be about him for the most part. she also has made some tiktoks that seem to be directed at him. also, when they weren't close for a couple months, she was in vegas with friends and he was out with a girl and she tweeted out a bunch of stuff about "the ppl that you thought cared shock you the most" and "it meant nothing to you" and shit like that.

personally, i don't think they were together at any point, mostly bc he was fucking around with another girl. literally at one point took her with him to hangout with sam, kat, abbey, and STAS so…. that just screams he was never into her, but she thought bc they were close he could be. is it possible something happened between them? yeah, but colby has made it abundently clear for a while now that he's single, even when stas would try to plant seeds that say otherwise.

oh yeah, forgot right after they came home from europe (which is where malishkagate happened and where fans thought they were finally together and congratulated them for it) colby hung out with her one more time before moving to vegas and she told her subscribers that she was going on a date and in reality it was just her and colby hanging out with a bunch of other ppl (aka she tried to make ppl think she was going on date with colby).

he also deleted multiple shipping comments about him and her on a tiktok they did together. which is why i truly believe he was never into her but she was into him.

ok about 12m later i turned it back on and they kissed and then he bit the corn then that night li chen also lost his virgin teas after watching gay porn and being like "hm interesting" and he'll be like "i see, ur dick is not medium sized"

i'm almost done with this fucking bullshit and i am in a really ould mood and usu they make it a bit better but imo it's kind of....annoying i guess balancing all these story elements and introducin gother couples (even in the periphery) since the story in itself can't focus. i feel like all in all the time spent with these two is a lot more limited and we get the feel for the rship because of their chemistry as actors, irl chemistry as friends and colleagues, and hopefully being happy and working on a good set. so it isn't the strength of the writing or production.

for some reason they get like less dynamic ways of being together which i think is part of their charm, they do things their own way, but the writers really should have substantiated this more. it's really just the way everyone in the show has managed to deliver these AWFUL story lines and production decisions (like seriously who the fuck was on costume? lighting?)

like maybe hot take but all the moments that are cringe and insane in the show are not pleasant, per se, because they aren't thought out clearly. so they're not a joy to watch in the normal sense but the actors are good enough to pull it off. i didn't cringe at the talks they had because it felt like actors like acting these lines out instead of us being embarrassed for it and you CAN TELL theyre embarrassed.

this is a huge kudos to the casting director and the actors and whatever crew that actually did a good job. i don't particularly like watching bo xiang and his grandfather husband not because of the content but because i feel like, to me, they're so awkward even though they have chemistry. i don't have that issue with xing si and his rapist brother boyfriend because watching them is actually really pleasant, it's intimate. this isn't to do with the story though because when it hits you how devoid this other person is and how stupid the situation is it changes (for me, for me, for me, this is all my opinion think whateverrrr u want im not telling u 2 ok!)

so truly kudos to this cast. idk if i'm misremembering here but imo the most cast appropriate series in this was crossing the line and close to you. one is a decent atmosphere and execution (yes even with that brother story line, notice the major key differences though because that's a sincere false equivalence. they try to execute power imbalances soooo badly and then fail every time but here's one meant to shock too and it was just likelmao ok girl?)

it may not make sense to say either in a writing way or for the character to do it but i believe that whoever the characters these people are supposed to be especially those super not well written on the page still get that message aacross (yong jie's actor is a good ex. not sure if i should ccongratulate him for having the worst job on earth and the worst character and his character is flat but. ostensibly they should let their actions speak for themselevs but what they do is they back themselves into a ccorner with unsuretyabout their characters or a dilemma that pops up they just want to excuse it. well guess hwat u couldnt do enough legwork. but to some extent the disposable side couple works here on a um "our eyes see them and get it" way

also to me it seems like they chose this story just to have this specific wedding. like it's a timely topic and i'm pretty sure like another provision? (correction? idk) was made WRT taiwanese same-sex marriage so it's topical but it isn't like a "papa and daddy" situation where they're interacting in it and there (for ex: the pride parade) and there being like real life terms and consequences. here it seems like they were like ah yes wedding ah yes dumb couple from modc bc we kiled off the other one sooooo (then outsource them to life love on the line u__u) then hamfisting in some fucking message which is funny bc

- despite the hints peppered in and the clear attraction they both acknowledge ur like ~not gay just him~ even tho...i mean i just. again they dont read over what they write i don't think considering. but wahtever.

- the only gay dude (verbally said) is with his rapist brother with an awful power dynamic oh or IS a rapist (gao) (or his brother but i think it was just a "im a psycho so it's him" thing unless they said it. in which case idc cos i wasnt paying attn but that's also not great) or i guess the wedding but like....that's also a ridiculously inappropriate and dumb relationship taht it's built on. i mean i don't really see much respect her so i dont particularly want to hear abt gay weddings being important when they didn't even utilize it in the story beforehand and have we ever. this is a huge indication to me that it was a reverse engineered chosen story beforehand (if it was one) or thought of

so reversal of that....it didnt give us enough time to breathe with these two at all but for both of the actors they can capitalize what's on the page and the writers didn't. like their dynamic is very i give/you give like taking car eof each other etc that's why

again, no artist worth their salt will ever say their work meant nothing. that's a cover up. i'm sick of lazy production and then getting away with it claiming being subversive or attacking an issue by not doing anything. we show crazy shit all the time but it has a POINT and ur point is "i like the gays" then girl.....i mean it's not great

but the acting really carried it. i have a feeling if this series continues it might continue to use more experienced actors cos maybe the budget goes up but they also have less inhibitions now when it comes to acting. i like the way li chen expresss himself and teng teng too. i like anson a lot and there's some angles that did not do any favors and i think eh has to get more control of his body movements (bc he's SO LARGE and thin) but he wasn't bad at all and there were real human tears. of course i, personally, favor charles tu. he has more control over his body because he has...less to work with and he's a bit bigger and he was really great in this role. he's a himbo a bit of a meathead but you like him. you like them. there's some things i think they had them say and do that they wouldn't let happen if they stuck to the characters and the story (mainly liking that dumb idiot rapist)

what i notice is that the reprehensible actions people criticize others for in the show and in real human life lalways gets turned around. teng teng being surprised that this boy's grandfather boyfriend met him when he was a junior in high school and he's 12 years older and him apologizing for being shocked and then whatshisface going "ur better at it than most people" and then the convo about gao with whatshisface and then rapist brother comes to pick him up. they are admonishing gao but thinking that rapist brother is noble for doin gwhat he did (and oh rapist brother shows up) like the hypocrisy and the decisions are immense. so now it's like "guys see he's a great guy" like girl STICK TO SOMETHING but whatever so i live in this universe where muren and li chen do everything right and have lots of different interesting fun seex with all their friends. i would write this but i cannot i am dying

I'm not that anon and neither am I against meat Roxy but some people don't seem to like that iteration bc of the widely accepted reading of Roxy as a transfeminine character. Idk how much of it is canon-supported and how much is just hcs tho

Like we all agree that its bad to erase canon gay charas right? So like...why is it g to erase canon trans characters. Like yeah it was a popular headcanon but like......?? Headcanons get deconfirmed sometimes it happens??? It makes me feel like having a woman hc for roxy is more important than having a transmasc canon, which is. A constant self doubt of mine like i worry people will see me as lesser bc im trans and ive also seen it happen! So thats not very nice! To see the fandom treat a canon trans character as "lesser" bc theyre not trans in the way they want!

Also roxy is literally the only positive transmasc character ive ever seen in any piece of media. Ever. So that adds to it. The amnt of ppl who i seen say shit like "give her back u dont deserve her" like? That shit hurts!! Im sorry but it does! Constantly being told that a character being revealed as transmasc is "not worth it" is one of the things that makes me wanna leave the hs fandom bc holy shit!! Thats so transphobic!

Roxy is also rly rly important to me bc ive never seen a canon nb character who uses he/him either and like! I never saw rep lile that! If ur srsly mad abt transmasc roxy and want to be able to filter him out bc u prefer a different hc pls take a step back and look at urself and see how that can be transphobic. on the one hand, agree? but on the other he has at least disagreed with her before & i feel like, for caleb, with her, that's functionally the same thing? he refused to make big life decisions for her & at the same time refused to. what's the word. refused to validate her insecurities

he also made it clear that he thought nott wasn't thinking through the decision to send luke (sorry sam but ur spelling is wrong) to marion, bc he felt it was unsafe

so it's less that caleb is incapable of standing up to nott even for her own good, and more that he hasn't...rly had much in the way of opportunities to do so?

and, additionally, i think this discussion arising in response to last episode's flask thievery is? rather telling wrt what it says abt ppl's thoughts on What Is Best For Addicts

& on that note. i don't think that choosing to band together w/the others to keep nott from having access to alcohol would be a good means of "standing up to her"? bc i don't think that it would help, and i definitely don't think that it's a choice anyone but nott gets to make. if nott asks them to keep it away from her, or her away from it, that's one thing. but it isn't their place to decide it, u know?

& on the other hand if what's meant by this is "caleb should voice any concerns he may have re: her alcoholism & discuss the situation with nott & maybe encourage her to try n stay sober or at least cut back?" then like. fair i suppose?

but like. the mild judgment i'm perceiving re: caleb feeling he has no place to do this--i'm not sure i agree it's earned? & am not sure i agree it's accurate to suggest that this kind of tough love or whatever is sth nott has done where caleb hasn't?

bc yes, nott has said things like "no, i don't want to leave these people, i love them" and "fuck you and your feelings and your secrets, my family is more important right now" and that's a kind of standing up to him

but it's not the same kind as it would be for caleb to express concern about her drinking

a better comparison for that would probably be something like--

"hey caleb i know you like how fire feels & in some ways using fire spells helps you and is a kind of coping mechanism, but i feel like it's a maladaptive coping mechanism and it's hurting you & also the group? so uh have you considered using NOT fire spells??? or at least not so many?? or at least not using them for killing blows????"

and u'll note that nott has not done this. the closest she's got has been "hey uh. maybe check to see if anything's alive someplace before you light it on fire?" and that took her over 55 episodes. she still hasn't gone "hey uhhh dude. this thing u do that u like & that u feel makes u more useful & that is a coping mechanism for ur self-loathing & trauma is super unhealthy & a kind of self-harm & it's making u impaired in fights & that's gonna get u & possibly also the group killed? it's giving me a concern & i think u should maybe think abt how it's...kind of a problem?"

she ain't done that. & neither has caleb

bc neither of them feels they've any right to judge the other for how they're coping

and my point's run away from me but in conclusion. hm

edit: oh right! my point is neither of them has done the thing so this isn't caleb failing to be less codependent than nott, this is a mutual thing still, and honestly i think it's fair? i also am not entirely sure caleb even sees it as a Problem the way the others do? it seems more likely he recognizes it as being the same as his using fire all the time, & he's like "fair enough"

but at the same time. he bought her booze & then just. held onto it w/out telling her, rather than immediately handing it over. so maybe there is concern there? but then he also did quietly buy it like a failsafe rather than a) not looking, or b) loudly buying it to lord it over her head, which all of the others did one or the other, so it's just kinda like--you know? his approach is markedly different

i'm curious what precisely he's thinking

i'm also curious whether nott has any thoughts abt caleb's fire thing? whether she sees any parallels there the way i think caleb does

...y'know. i've never submitted a question for talks before but i'm kinda tempted to ask one this time? bc i'm curious if i'm right abt caleb seeing parallels between nott's drinking & his firebug tendencies
