Yes!!! God fall would be such a fun time for Witch, all the gourds and apples and ciders. She could have her own booth at a farmers market selling home made drinks and charms. I get all sorts of witchy booths at my farmers market but I imagine hers would be very.... hard to ignore.
It would draw you in and you'd pick up something particular that you weren't really looking at or for. You don't really know why you picked it up, but Witch smiles at you over her book, marks her page and stands to tell you what it is you're looking at. Something the seems terribly mundane but when she talks about it you go "oh like a magic thing?" And she nods, "yeah like a magic thing." And maybe you're not someone who normally goes for that sort of thing but somehow you can't put it down, you have to have this stupid magic thing. So you hand her some cash, you hope the appropriate amount, and she grins at you before shooing you off to enjoy the rest of the market.
And then somehow the magic thing works, like works immediately. You're healthier, or you get a promotion at work, your crush asks you out, your skin clears, you don't have nightmares anymore. You don't believe in magic, but... maybe just this once. (You never find her booth again and no one knows what you're talking about when you ask)

Ghost neighborhoods emerge in Brazilian city of Maceió after sinking earth
The worsening of soil instability started in 2018, with an earthquake and the appearance of cracks in the Pinheiro neighborhood. Then the problem spread.
Tumblr media
[Image description: ”We’re victims of Braskem” sprayed on a wall]
Over 17,000 people had to leave their homes in the Brazilian city Maceió due to a geological phenomenon that has been frightening residents of the capital of the Northeastern state of Alagoas. Since 2018, the city has suffered from a sinking of the soil, which swallows streets, destroys buildings, breaks down walls of houses, and causes earthquakes.
The one blamed for the terror is the petrochemical company Braskem, which, due to the exploitation of rock salt, promised to pay R$ 2.7 billion (~US$ 500 million) to relocate the residents who leave behind their memories and true ghost neighbourhoods.
On Thursday (April 29, 2021), residents of the Bebedouro neighborhood, affected by the instability of the soil in the region, made a protest. The busy closed the intersection between the streets Ladeira Professor Benedito Silva and Marquês de Abrantes.
Residents demand from the government a solution to the problems caused in the soil by the extraction of rock salt, carried out for decades by Braskem. The protest started around 8:30 am and closed both directions of the road, causing major congestion in the region.
The movement has been gaining strength after the adhesion of the digital influencer Alvaro. On social media, the young man, who has more than 7 million followers, promoted the tag: "MACEIÓ TÁ AFUNDANDO” (”Maceió is sinking"). It trended on Twitter.
Frightening tremors
The worsening of soil instability started in 2018, with an earthquake and the appearance of cracks in the neighbourhood Bairro do Pinheiro. Then, the problem spread and reached the nearby neighbourhoods, Mutange, Bebedouro, and Bom Parto.
Now, these sites have turned into destruction. Residents share photos and ask for help to save the streets that are uninhabited. According to residents of the region, the population experiences small tremors every day.
"The ground is sinking with each passing day and new cracks appear," explains a local resident. "I lived in Pinheiro all my life, it was here that my grandmother and my mother bought their first houses. I studied in the neighborhood, played, grew up, made friends, worked ... Seeing his situation today leaves me destroyed.", explains another.
Braskem has explored rock salt in the outskirts of the city for decades, and the sinking is a consequence of problems in the sealing of the explored wells.
With the word, Braskem
An agreement signed between Braskem and local authorities aims to support the evacuation of the areas identified by the Civil Defense in Maceió in the shortest possible time and with the costs of relocating residents and the corresponding compensation paid by the company.
Questioned by this news outlet Estado de Minas, the company reported that "the indemnities are negotiated and paid as soon as there is understanding between the resident and Braskem."
"The eviction is being carried out even before all studies on the geological phenomenon in the region are ready, to prioritize the safety of the residents.", pointed out the petrochemical company.
According to the company, all 14,319 properties on the map defined by the Civil Defense have already been identified and 11,560 are unoccupied, adding up to more than 40 thousand people outside the risk areas.
"The Financial Compensation and Relocation Support Program, which supports families, has already submitted more than 5,500 proposals, and Braskem has paid approximately R$ 713 million (~US$ 131.81 million) in indemnities, financial aid and lawyers' fees.", they declared.
"In addition, more than 3,600 families have already received their financial compensation. The data are contained in the program's monthly monitoring report, which is regularly presented to the authorities."
Also according to the company, the families served in the Compensation Program have the guidance of social technicians and have support for their move, including payment of financial aid and rent, help in the search for a temporary property through partnerships with real estate companies, furniture storage, and pet care, among others.
A lawyer chosen by the resident, or a public defender, accompanies the entire process.

Verses/AUs/UAs
Main Verse
The colony of Sparkhaven and their Neutron guardians attempt to avoid the on-going War and locate other colonies or those in need of sanctuary or assistance. Function on Sparkhaven and in its Fleet are fraught with dangers and obstacles, especially when you’re stretched thin after a fatal epidemic. No one ever said achieving a peaceful function would be easy.
Primary muses: All muses
Currently Ready:
Return to Cybertron
After receiving a message from Optimus Prime that the War is over and Cybertron is safe to return to, Sparkhaven and the Neutrons make for the planet to see what has become of it and its mechanisms, even if some members have misgivings about returning.
Primary muses: All muses, except for Fireball and Dealbreaker
Possible UAs?: Autobot victory, Decepticon Victory, A Truce, A Quintesson Trick
Tag: RTC
Stranded: Earth
The Primus’ Last Stand staff find themselves sucked into a collapsing spacebridge! The Neutrons make landfall on Earth. Due to trying to protect their creator from the fiery inferno of the crash, Nanostorm becomes separated from Nitroxide and the Drones. Who are these strange bots? These carbon beings they call “humans”? Will the lost Neutrons ever find a way back to Sparkhaven?
Meanwhile, without their Supreme Commander and down their medic/scientist, Powerhouse, Solar Pax, and Starprowler must work together to keep everything running smoothly while searching for their missing members.
Primary muses: Neutrons
Tag: SE
A Spacewhale Ate Our Planet
Unable to turn a threat aside, the Neutrons evacuate Sparkhaven and leave their doomed planet to its fate as a snack for a hungry spacewhale. Without Sparkhaven and low on Energon, the motley crew makes for Earth, the closest known source of energy and one of the best known battlefields of the War. They will certainly get mixed up with the warring factions, whether they want to or not.
Primary muses: All muses
Tag: SAOP
Pre-War Functionalist Cybertron (TFP, Exodus)
Before war ripped Cybertron apart, Functionalism ruled with an iron servo. Transformers were categorized and assigned functions. There was those created into power and those created without it, and others deemed disposable or not even sentient. We mostly fall into this last category.
Primary muses:
Nitroxide (Pre-Empurata, Post-Empurata) - Disposable; Recorder (Crystal City)
Solarflare (Solar Pax) - Middle-class; Recon Soldier (Vos)
Silent Night (Nightsiren) - Disposable; Gladiator (Slaughter City)
Shamble - Lower-class; Courier (Moonbase 1, Iacon)
Starprowler - Disposable; Decoration/Pet (Iacon)
Tag: Pre-War
Factions
Till All Are One! Peace Through Tyranny! You won’t find any Neutrons or Neutrals here. This is strictly an Autobot/Decepticon au. ((sadly, no drones in this AU ))
Autobots: Nitroxide, Shamble, Crux, Flux, Powerhouse, Nanostorm, Dealbreaker
Decepticons: Solarflare (Solar Pax), Silent Night (Nightsiren), Fireball
Possible Willing Defections: Nitroxide, Solarflare, Silent Night, Dealbreaker
Possible Unwilling Defections: Nanostorm, Crux, Flux
Tag: On Brand
In the Works:
Shattered Sparkhaven (Shattered Glass AU or SG AU)
Salvation comes for you! The Newtrons scour the universe in search of those in need of their special brand of “saving”. With each new colony conquered and individual transformer reclaimed, the drone army of Empress Nitroxide swells, and she’s set her optic on Cybertron. Meanwhile, a “crack” team of resistance fighters attempt to spoil her plans any way they can.
Primary muses: All muses [Newtrons; The Resistance]
Academy (TFA)
Don’t be a hero; it’s not in your programming! It’s the bootcamp school au no bot asked for. Face it, some bots are just not cut out to become elite guards: they’re not what the guard needs, too soft-sparked, too strange, looking too much like a Decepticon implant.
Primary muses: All muses
Possible Future Verses/AUs/UAs:
Fairytale
Idol
Mafia
Royals/Nobles
((I figured I should put up the current and future Verses/AUs/UAs list since all the character bios are up. The live version is going to live on the Repository Page once it is up.))

FALSE PROPHETS & TEACHERS
Matthew 7:15 (NIV)15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.Kenneth Copeland, wealthiest US pastor, lives on $7M tax-free estateMary K. Jacob
Considered the wealthiest pastor in America — with an alleged estimated net worth of $760 million — televangelist Kenneth Copeland is in hot water after an extensive investigation by the Houston Chronicle revealed how he has been living in a tax-free mega-mansion worth $7 million and paid for by Texas taxpayers for years.
The 85-year-old pastor’s house spans 18,000 square feet and is made up of six bedrooms and six bathrooms, located on an exclusive lake community outside Fort Worth. The luxury pad, Copeland’s primary residence, is situated on one acre and surrounded by a 24-acre lakefront tract, which is valued “extraordinarily low” at $125,000, according to the Chronicle.Because of its low value, Copeland’s Eagle Mountain International Church — which Copeland founded in 1967 and which technically owns the home — pays less than $3,000 a year in property taxes, records show. The value was agreed upon by the Tarrant Appraisal District in Fort Worth as part of a dispute resolution agreement with the church. But real estate experts said that the waterfront property in an open market would actually sell for millions.Because Copeland claimed the mansion as a “clergy residence,” the home qualified for a 100% tax break. Without the break, Copeland would otherwise have an annual property tax exceeding $150,000.
The $7 million mansion is made up of six bedrooms and six bathrooms and is situated on one acre of land.Google EarthThe founder of the self-titled Christian organization Kenneth Copeland Ministries, the thrice-married pastor previously stated that when people drive by his house, “they will know there is a God,” according to a speech he gave at his
2015 Southwest Believers’ Convention in Fort Worth
.At the event, Copeland explained that his journey to living in the mansion all started when God told him years earlier to build a dream home that his wife, Gloria, had described to him.“Minister this house to her,” he recalled being told. “It is part of your prosperity.”Her vision included a three-story estate with long white columns in front.
Kenneth Copeland with wife Gloria Copeland, who allegedly envisioned the home.“You may think that house is too big,” the
prosperity preacher
stated at the 2015 convention. “You may think it’s too grand.I don’t care what you think.I heard from heaven. Glory to God, hallelujah!'”Built in 1999, the property “has a sweeping spiral staircase and a bridge that spans across the living room and connects the two sides of the house,” a 2011 report by the US Senate Finance Committee stated, according to the Chronicle story.“It also has crystal chandeliers and, according to Gloria Copeland, doors that ‘came from a castle,’ along with a ‘huge drop-down ceiling projector and screen’ in the bedroom.”
The estate is near the private airport owned by the church and features a 24-acre lakefront.Google Images The mansion also boasts a tennis court, two garages and a covered boat dock with three slips, perched on the shores of Eagle Lake.Copeland’s ministries center around his belief that God wants everyone to be “financially successful.”
This Aug. 27, 2013, photo shows a sign at the entrance of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries Eagle Mountain Church, in Newark, Texas.APThis isn’t the first time the minister has been caught in the crossfire. In 2007, Copeland’s ministry —
which reportedly owns
a $20 million jet and another small jet next to a private airport established by the church — was asked about using the planes for his friends and personal vacations.“I’m a very wealthy man,” Copeland told reporter Lisa Guerrero from “Inside Edition”
in a May 2019 interview
, during which she questioned him over his “luxury” lifestyle and refusal to travel on commercial airplanes.“It takes a lot of money to do what we do.We have brought over 122 million people to the Lord Jesus Christ,” Copeland responded in the 12-minute video. But Pete Evans, president of the religious accountability organization Trinity Foundation, seemingly found fault with Copeland’s church and its use of the tax break.“The law was never intended to give breaks to millionaires and multimillionaires,” he told the Chronicle. “You make a mockery of the law itself.”
A wolf in sheep's clothing is symbolic for someone who outwardly looks harmless and kind with good intentions but inwardly is full of hate, evil and deceit.
We are warned of this false teacher in the book of Matthew in the Bible.
This person seeks to twist truth and Scripture to fit their own agenda.
They deceive their audience with false prophecy and teachings.
Wolves teach false doctrine while appearing attractive.Sometimes the truth can get twisted in this life. Blurred.
Manipulated.Lines get crossed.Things once seen as black and white may start to appear grayer.
It may seem harder to recognize what’s true or what’s false. What’s light and what’s dark?
At the heart of the battle, we face every day, is a real enemy who prowls around seeking someone to devour. (1 Pet. 5:8) He’ll stop at nothing to gain new ground.
He and his forces have quoted God’s words since the beginning of time, twisting it, trying their best to manipulate the truth, their main goal only to deceive and lead astray.
They know who God is and the Bible says they “shudder” in fear at His name. (James 2:19) They know that God alone will be victorious and no matter what traps are used today to try to distract us away from Him, in the end, they will not win.
1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
James 2:19 (NIV) 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. Many times the wolf disguised in sheep’s clothing knows God’s Word better than we thought, crafting and twisting it so much, we might even find ourselves feeling confused over what real truth is anymore.
So how can we spot a wolf in sheep's clothing and how can we see through their deception to protect ourselves? First, let's look at three signs that help you detect one of these individuals.
Signs of a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
1. They Love Power and ThemselvesThis leader will try to gain and hold onto power for their own selfish reasons.Relationships are used and abused solely for the purpose of gaining more control.A wolf in sheep's clothing will use their position to create rules and standards that were never a part of God's plan. They do not want to empower people with freedom and truth but rather keep them under his power with boundaries. 2. They Refuse Correction and Respond to Criticism with AngerWhen you confront a wolf in sheep's clothing, the response will not be one of humility and repentance. This person will respond with anger, bitterness, and often turn the criticism back on you. Their main goal in life is self-preservation and will not let anyone get in the way of their authority. A wolf will appear meek in front of an audience but will show aggression when confronted.3. They Use Emotions to Get What They WantA wolf knows the power of words and emotions to manipulate people. They use guilt, shame, and fear to keep others under their power.A wolf knows when to speak sweet words of compliments and when to use cutting words to fuel insecurity.
THEY LACK THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRITLack the Fruit of the SpiritGalatians 5:22-23 tell us what the characteristics and traits are in the life of a person who is following the Holy Spirit. The wolf does not produce the fruit of the Spirit. They may be able to appear loving and gentle in front of people but behind closed doors, they lack kindness, gentleness, self-control, and other fruits.
A wolf gives into sinful natures and will display them when feeling attacked. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.The best way to expose the false lies of the enemy is to know the Truth of the One voice who matters most.Know the real and you'll know what is false.
One way federal agents are trained to detect counterfeit money is by learning how to spot what is "fake," by understanding first what is "real."They study real money, for hours and hours, every part of it.They know it so well when the counterfeit is set before them, they immediately know that it's false.Because they know the real thing. And so it is with us.As we keep pressing in to know God, who is real, who is Truth, and we set our minds on His Word, spending time there, meditating on it, eventually we become very trained in detecting the "fake."
It has been reported in the media at large that some evangelical Mega-Pastors:1. Have bought Multiple Private Planes for the “Ministry” 2. Have used the money allocated, to advancing, the Gospel on (TV) around the world, paid by their congregations and (have & are) “piggybacking” on Church Monies, to promote and sell their books,CDs, Movies, Concerts, and they make MILLIONS of Dollars by Defrauding GOD, and His Saints, out of the Tithes & Offerings.
BISHOP T.D. JAKES BUY'S HIS DAUGHTER A 4 MILLION DOLLAR MANSION3. Pastors that live in Multi-Million Dollar Mansions that have apparently made their “Money” by pilfering Tithes & Offerings, from their congregation(s) in one way or another.
4. Pastor(s) that COMPEL, their congregants, to sign “ Direct Deposit,” authorization forms, in order to become a member, of their “Church.”5. Friends, Tithes & Offerings, should come from a willing Heart, and not by intimidation, threats  that you’re going to hell or lose your salvation, etc .....
6. Amazing how “Christ Jesus,” walked, or rode on the backs of Donkeys, as His mode of transportation, lived in a normal house, not a Multi-Million Dollar Mansion, didn’t fly in Private Jets, didn’t compel people to sign “ Direct Deposit,” authorization Forms to hear HIM “ The Preacher of all Preachers,” a shekel.
7. Some of these Mega-Pastor’s apparently have to Fly First Class, if you want them to come to your Church, for a “ Seminar,” and you Must place them in a 5 Star Hotel, and pay them an Honorarium, of approximately $25,000 - $50,000, in order for them to come and preach their “ Falsehoods, Lies, and Boast of the Wealth that God has given them,” what audacity! 8. Friends, if your Church is misusing their Tithes & Offerings, on things or items, that they shouldn’t be, LEAVE and ask the Lord to Help you find A God Fearing, God Teaching, and God Serving Church.I ask you to leave in peace, so as to not be a stumbling block for newly converted saints.
9. What You Should Know About the Prosperity Gospel
Joe Carter is an editor for The Gospel Coalition, author of The Life and Faith Field Guide for Parents, the editor of the NIV Lifehacks Bible, and coauthor of How to Argue Like Jesus: Learning Persuasion from History’s Greatest Communicator. He also serves as an associate pastor at McLean Bible Church in Arlington, Virginia. You can follow him on Twitter.
May 3, 2017, Last week U.S. Postal Service inspectors and IRS criminal investigators raided the offices of Benny Hinn, the infamous faith healer and “health and wealth” preacher. Here is what should know about Hinn and the prosperity gospel movement. What is the prosperity gospel? The prosperity gospel (also known as the “health and wealth gospel” or by its most popular brand, the “Word of Faith” movement) is a perversion of the gospel of Jesus that claims that God rewards increases in faith with increases in health and/or wealth. As Stephen Hunt explains, in the forefront is the doctrine of the assurance of “divine” physical health and prosperity through faith. In short, this means that “health and wealth” are the automatic divine right of all Bible-believing Christians and may be procreated by faith as part of the package of salvation, since the Atonement of Christ includes not just the removal of sin, but also the removal of sickness and poverty.
What makes the prosperity gospel a false gospel?David W. Jones outlines five errors of prosperity gospel teaching:1. The Abrahamic covenant is a means to material entitlement.2. Jesus’s atonement extends to the “sin” of material poverty.3. Christians give in order to gain material compensation from God.4. Faith is a self-generated spiritual force that leads to prosperity.5. Prayer is a tool to force God to grant prosperity.“In light of Scripture, the prosperity gospel is fundamentally flawed,” Jones says.“At bottom, it is a false gospel because of its faulty view of the relationship between God and man.Simply put, if the prosperity gospel is true, grace is obsolete, God is irrelevant, and man is the measure of all things.Whether they’re talking about the Abrahamic covenant, the atonement, giving, faith, or prayer, prosperity teachers turn the relationship between God and man into a quid pro quo transaction.”Where did the prosperity gospel come from? The prosperity gospel originated as an offshoot of Pentecostalism in post-World War II America. While it started in local congregations and in tent revivals, the movement gained a larger following through the use of radio and television, and became firmly entrenched in the 1980s with the rise of “televangelism.”While not all prosperity gospel preachers are Pentecostal or charismatic (and most charismatic and Pentecostal Christians are not associated with the prosperity gospel), the movement is still largely connected to revivalist and charismatic churches. This has made it easier for the movement to gain traction in Africa, South America, and other areas of the world where Pentecostalism is rapidly expanding.
Who preaches the prosperity gospel? The man who could be considered the father of modern prosperity gospel teaching is Oral Roberts. The faith-healing evangelist became so influential that he started his own school, Oral Roberts University (ORU).At the height of his influence, Roberts oversaw a ministry that brought in $110 million in annual revenue.
Today, some of the best-known prosperity teachers are Creflo Dollar, T. D. Jakes, Guillermo Maldonado, Joel Osteen, and Paula White. How can we identify a prosperity gospel preacher? In a 2014 sermon, John Piper outlined six keys to detecting the prosperity gospel:1. The absence of a serious doctrine of the biblical necessity and normalcy of suffering, the absence of a doctrine of suffering.2. The absence of a clear and prominent doctrine of self-denial is a tip off that something is amiss.3. The absence of serious exposition of Scripture. 4. The absence of dealing with tensions in Scripture. 5. Church leaders who have exorbitant lifestyles.6. A prominence of self and a marginalization of the greatness of God.(See also: The Story Behind John Piper’s Most Famous Attack on the Prosperity Gospel)
PASTOR GUILLERMO MALDONADOWho in America is attracted to the prosperity gospel? In 2015, YouGov surveyed 1,000 American adults who describe themselves as either “born again” or as an evangelical Christian, and asked their views about particular preachers and whether wealth is a sign of God’s favor. On the question, “Do you believe that prayer can make you wealthier?”15 percent of whites,42 percent of blacks, and25 percent of Hispanics answered “yes.”On the question, “Is wealth a sign of God’s favor?”9 percent of white,34 percent of blacks, and24 percent of Hispanics said “definitely” or “probably.”
When it comes to black prosperity gospel preachers, black evangelicals were much more likely than either Hispanic or white evangelicals to have a “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” opinion.Seventy percent of blacks had a favorable opinion of T. D. Jakes compared to 10 percent for whites and 24 percent for Hispanics.(Most whites and Hispanics answered “not sure”—71 percent and 64 percent, compared to 15 percent for blacks.)
PASTOR CREFLO DOLLARThe results were much lower for Creflo Dollar: 28 percent of black evangelicals held a favorable view, compared to 3 percent for whites and 8 percent for Hispanics.(Most whites and Hispanics answered “not sure”—72 percent and 78 percent, compared to 26 percent for blacks.)However, black evangelicals also held more favorable opinions of prosperity preachers who were not black. They were more likely to have a “very” or “somewhat” favorable view of: Joel Osteen (51 percent, compared to 22 percent for whites and 39 percent for Hispanics), Pat Robertson (41 percent, compared to 17 percent for whites and 14 percent for Hispanics), Benny Hinn (23 percent, compared to 4 percent for whites and 12 percent for Hispanics), and Kenneth Copeland (34 percent, compared to 8 percent for whites and 12 percent for Hispanics).Additionally, one in four black and Hispanic evangelicals believe it is acceptable for religious leaders to become wealthy through their religious work compared to one in seven white evangelicals.Where can I find resources on addressing the prosperity gospel? You can download a free copy of Prosperity: Seeking the True Gospel, and find articles and videos by TGC, 9Marks, Desiring God, and others

Jerusalem: The Valley of Decision. ICEJ
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision” (Joel 3:14). Dear Harry,
The prophet Joel saw three great developments before the coming of “the great and terrible day of the Lord.” First, he saw the Spirit of God being poured out on all flesh—a revival that would cover the whole earth (Joel 2:28ff). Second, he saw the Jewish people returning to their homeland (Joel 3:1). And third, he saw the nations gathering together against Jerusalem, specifically in the valley of Jehoshaphat (“God judges” in Hebrew), a northern extension of the Kidron Valley. He had a special name for this valley—the “valley of decision.” From the very beginning, Jerusalem has been a city of decision. The first time we read about it, we find Abraham returning from a successful campaign against four kings who had taken hostages from the city-states of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham pursued and defeated the kings, liberated the hostages, and brought back a rich bounty of his conquest (Genesis 14). Upon his return, Abraham reached the “valley of the Kings”—thought to be the Kidron Valley just east of Jerusalem’s Old City. There, two kings appeared to him: the King of Sodom, ruler of an unrighteous city, and Melchizedek, King of Salem. Both made an offer to Abraham. The King of Sodom offered him all the spoils of the conquest: “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” Melchizedek’s offer was far more modest: bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed him from “God Most High (El Elyon), Possessor of heaven and earth.” The difference was stark! The ruler of Sodom offered riches but kept the souls. Melchizedek was Priest of the God Most High, and with bread and wine, the eternal symbols of sacrificial redemption, he offered Abraham redemption of the soul. Abraham understood this came from the same God who called him out of Ur in Chaldea. This was the Creator God, “possessor of heaven and earth,” who could claim everything he had. And third, he saw the nations gathering together against Jerusalem, specifically in the valley of Jehoshaphat (“God judges” in Hebrew), a northern extension of the Kidron Valley. He had a special name for this valley—the “valley of decision.
From the very beginning, Jerusalem has been a city of decision.
Melchizedek blessed him from “God Most High (El Elyon), Possessor of heaven and earthThe difference was stark!
It was not an easy choice. Abraham had every right to keep the riches of Sodom but he returned the spoil to its king. He then readily accepted Melchizedek’s blessing and offered back a tithe of everything he had, recognizing God’s claim over his life.
Years later, God called Abraham back to Jerusalem. “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you” (Genesis 22:2). This is the most demanding call anyone could ever receive from God. It meant giving up the son of promise for whom Abraham had prayed and hoped for those many years. Isaac also embodied his own calling to be a blessing to all the families of the earth. And of course, Isaac was his own flesh and blood. We can only imagine what it took for Abraham to make this agonizing journey to Jerusalem. Hebrews says Abraham’s deep belief that Isaac would be raised from the dead enabled him to walk this difficult road (Hebrews 11:17–19).
Twice Abraham made a radical decision in Jerusalem. For him, Jerusalem represented the very fact that God indeed was possessor of heaven and earth. It is the place of total surrender to God; the place to make God the highest authority and submit our rights and will to Him.
David would later make Jerusalem the capital of Israel. As with Abraham, Jerusalem became for David the place of ultimate worship and sacrifice to God. There on Mount Zion, David established a place of perpetual worship to God. One of his psalms says it is a place reserved for the humble and pure of heart (Psalm 24:1–4). Here, the Creator of heaven and earth expects our total surrender to Him. Isaiah declares that “His fire is in Zion and whose furnace is Jerusalem” (Isaiah 31:9). Jerusalem is a battleground for the soul—the place for deciding whom we will serve.
Yet in Jerusalem, God made His own decision to give everything for us. Like Abraham, He gave that which was most precious to Him—His only begotten Son. Two thousand years after Abraham, in the Kings’ valley on the slopes of the Kidron, Melchizedek appears again—now as the son of David, King of the Jews, and Son of God. There, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ, our High Priest, prayed the greatest prayer of submission: “Not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). And as did Isaac, Jesus carried a wooden burden up that mountain to offer Himself as an eternal sacrifice for me and you. Throughout history this offer of redemption has confronted every soul. It remains a place of decision for everyone!
Interestingly, the king of Sodom’s offer also seems to be ever-present in this city. The book of Revelation calls Jerusalem the city that is spiritually “Sodom.” There is an enduring spiritual battle over the city that manifests even in the political arena. Jerusalem is like a magnet to the rulers of this world, where the arrogance of their power is demonstrated by their desire to divide and control the City of God. But “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: ‘Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion’” (Psalm 2:4–6).
The prophet Zechariah foresaw the drunkenness with which the world’s rulers are eager to decide the fate of Jerusalem. Yet the prophet warned: “… it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it” (Zechariah 12:2–3).
It is a dangerous thing to carelessly lift that heavy stone of Jerusalem. It is a burden that can crush even nations.
Exactly one hundred years ago, British General Edmund Allenby liberated Jerusalem from the Ottomans. When entering the city through Jaffa Gate, he dismounted his horse and asked his soldiers to do the same. “Only the King of kings should enter the city riding on a horse,” he reportedly said. Some 20 years earlier, the German Kaiser Wilhelm II visited Jerusalem and insisted that Jaffa Gate be widened for him to ride into Jerusalem on a white horse.
Dealing with Jerusalem demands humility from everyone, politicians included. Those who would too easily divide the city remind us of the prostitute who too quickly took up Solomon’s suggestion to divide her friend’s child. Let us rather seek the peace of this great city! The psalmist said, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they prosper who love you” (Psalm 122:6); the Hebrew word for peace —shalom—also means “wholeness.” To seek unity and peace can mean the difference between blessing and curse.
Therefore, make it a place of decision for you personally, and choose afresh Christ’s eternal gift of bread and wine, submitting to Him. But also, let us pray for our nations to relate rightly to the city that Jesus Christ Himself calls the city of the great King. It will be for the prospering of our own nations!
Please note: we, Christians, are the New Jerusalem.

Hi reddit! You may remember me from posts like this one. I typically post from my handle /u/johnnywharris but doing a takeover for the new Vox handle for this AMA.6 months ago I asked the internet what interesting borders existed around the world that I should report on firsthand. 6,000 story submissions, 11 countries, and countless drone videos, dispatches and memory cards later, we created six documentaries on what it's like to live at the edge of a nation. I visited:The length of the border between Haiti and the Dominican RepublicThe Arctic, reporting from Svalbard -- one of the northernmost inhabited place on EarthThe North Korean community residing in Japan, but pledging allegiance to PyongyangMexico's border with Guatemala, following the routes migrants take northRemote communities in the Himalayas on the border with China and NepalThe Spanish enclave of Melilla and the migrant outposts in the hills of MoroccoMy biggest takeaway: to know a country's deepest fear, you have to look at its border. Borders can encourage exchange or instigate violence, and classify us, versus them. As political leaders decide the lines on the map, it will always have a human effect. For me, this was a brand new way of sharing my journey, from capturing my first impressions in short dispatches through to releasing the final 6 polished documentaries. So AMA!Anything you want to know about this journey, my gear, how this worked, what I saw or learned, or questions about the documentaries themselves - let me know.Proof: https://twitter.com/johnnywharris/status/940229810592284673EDIT: Thank you so much to the mods and the /r/worldnews community for having me!
