Me wanting to make some OC for an existing series/movie/anime/game but I try to give them some complexity so as not to make them so flat and boring but also not wanting to make them so special because of that feeling of guilt and not wanting to make them cooler than the canonical characters but still wanting to give them something unique but at the same time not striking but at the level of power not so weak but not so powerful but-

Visse and Halflings (A to Z Challenge)
Behind the Curtain: The Sea of Stars began (and continues) as a Dungeons & Dragons campaign world, it was designed partly in reaction to the last two campaigns I had which featured very narrow choices of kin and restrictions on classes, the Sea of Stars was to be wide open yet based on D&D 3 rules, so the kindred allowed in that book needed to be included in some way, but I wanted them to have…

"While the kingdom of Equestria has a more diverse population than most others, it is known as the home of three races in particular..."
Did someone order uhhhhhhhhh fantasy world AU? I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for a while now, and I finally got around to drawing it. More info below the cut!
"...First are the Earthkin. Characterized by their short tails, varied markings, and stocky bodies, Earthkin are the most abundant of the three races, with many villages and settlements being entirely devoid of any other kind of Equestrian. It is often believed that they are unable to use magic, save for the abilities all Equestrians gain from their Cutie Marks, however more recent studies have suggested that while they cannot actively wield magical energies, they may posses passive abilities beyond what would normally be physically possible.
"Next are the Pegasi. They tend to be of average height, and can be easily distinguished by their wings, tailfeathers, and sharp talons. Every pegasus has the ability to concentrate energy around their bodies, extending their wings and tailfeathers, allowing for flight. However, this ability is not instinctual and requires time and training to be able to use properly. They mainly reside in their cities in the clouds, managing weather and the transportation of goods, but recently many Pegasi have broken tradition and begun immigrating to the lands below, starting new lives among the other races.
"And last but certainly not least are the Unicorns. They stand at an average of six and a half feet, with long tails and horns at the tops of their heads. These horns are able to channel magical energy, granting Unicorns the ability to use a variety of spells. Unlike Pegasi, who need to cultivate their powers to use them, Unicorns are able to use magic at birth, and need to practice in order to control this magic. While seemingly the most powerful of the three, however, Unicorns are also the most vulnerable. As, unlike the other two races, it is entirely possible for a Unicorn to completely lose their abilities if their horns are broken..."

Keyleth examines Ashton with her magic. Ashton feels a warmth creep through him and suddenly feels like he weighs a ton, that he is unmoveable. Keyleth: "You carry a power I cannot recognize; and a power I can, but seldom feel. Your blood carries elemental power, but not that of the normal earthkin and genasi in general. You carry a fragment of primordial elemental ⁣capability within you. The best way I can describe it is you are a titan of blood. I recognize it because a friend once carried a primordial shard. Your potential is vast and frightening, and I’m glad to have you at Orym’s side." Ashton takes off their jacket, and shows the hourglass symbol that is vaguely Ashari. Ashton: "I dreamed of this, my entire life, and I have had no idea what it was."
Keyleth looks both like she realizes something, and is frustrated by something.
Keyleth: "Maybe it came at a great cost, but the Hishari did something. That is their symbol."

Put That Guy in a Situation #36: Avalanche, with Ashton.
But with a twist! Instead of an avalanche, it's a cave-in/rock slide. 😉
Prompt
Ashton knows the ceiling is about to go. They can feel it. Whether a normal earthkin could feel it, or if it was the titan blood-
Didn't matter.
The point is, the cave's ceiling is about to collapse and he is in the danger zone, alongside Orym and Chetney.
Ashton can probably get free before it all comes down. He's fucking fast on his feet so his only real problem in escaping at this moment is that his rage magic is fucking with gravity. There's a more than decent chance his personal gravity field will drag the falling stones down to him faster than Exandria's gravity alone would.
And the little problem that Orym and Chetney may not be quick enough to get clear on their own. Short legs are a bitch like that.
So in the moment Ashton has to react as the ceiling cracks and rumbles, alerting everyone else to its imminent collapse, he pulls the two shorties close, leaning over them. He draws on his magic, strengthening the gravity that encompasses him until nothing can move him without his say so. He reaches out and does his best to wrap it around Orym and Chet like he did with Imogen and the crawler during the Deathwish.
Then the rocks come tumbling down, slamming into Ashton's back with enough force to send them to their knees if gravity wasn't making their stance immovable. The rocks pile on, heavier and heavier, and as the world shakes around them, Ashton has a brief moment to wonder what happens when the high-intensity gravity leaves them. Will they still be able to hold it all up, protect Chetney and Orym? Or have they only bought mere seconds before their weight and all the stone above them crushes the gnome and halfling? Would it crush them? Or was their stone body sturdy enough to resist crushing?
Well, they're about to fucking find out, aren't they?
The heavy-duty gravity slips through Ashton's grip, like it always does, going back to its usual weight, and the rocks press down, bowing his body even further as he tries to maintain that arched position over Orym and Chetney. They, thankfully, have the sense to crouch low at Ashton's feet, allowing him to get bracing hands on the ground as the collapsed ceiling keeps pushing him down. His knees touch down, spread wide so that small forms of his friends have as much room to curl under him as possible. Ashton's arms tremble as he refuses to collapse further, to deny Orym and Chet even an inch more of space.
It slowly turns to silence aside from all of their breathing. Chetney and Orym's quick little breaths, Ashton's own grit-toothed panting. And the low, rumbling growl in their chest from their determination to fall no further.
"Ash? How're you holding up?" Orym breathes into that silence, small hand brushing their thigh.
"If my arm... decides to... give out, we're fucked," Ashton grits out. His right arm is good at holding steady, with only a few gold cracks decorating the shoulder and bicep. But the left... well, anyone can see how fucked up his left side is. And sometimes that damage will make it give out at inopportune times.
"Let's not do that," Chetney says, as if Ashton has any fucking control over it.
And then the old gnome is pushing up against Ashton's chest, bracing them from below. Orym quickly follows suit.
It helps a little bit, but not a lot.
Chet's pretty strong from his werewolf shit, but it doesn't change the fact that he's about half Ashton's size and maybe a tenth of their weight. And Orym's in the same boat, except his toned physique is maximized for flexibility and speed, not raw strength.
Still, it's nice that they even thought to try. Even if Ashton doesn't think their support will grant more than a few extra seconds of time that he can hold the stone above up.
Gods fucking damnit.
This is not how he's going to die. And he's not going to let it be how Orym and Chetney die either.
As much as it scares the fuck out of them, Ashton has an idea.
None of their crazy brain shit is going to get them all out of here. But the brain shit isn't the only ridiculous power sleeping in their body. Ashton has titan blood, whatever the fuck that means, and if there was ever a time to discover new earth-based powers or magic or some shit, it's surely fucking now.
There's no fucking calm to be found in a situation where death quite literally looms over their heads, but Ashton doesn't need calm (he thinks), just focus. The focus to reach out into the stone around them, to feel its weight and strength, and tell it to back the fuck off and hold its own shit together.
With a soft grinding clatter, it does exactly that. The weight lifts off Ashton's back, which is still pressed to the stone, but he's not the one holding it all up anymore.
"Ashton?" Orym cautiously calls after the sound of scraping rock stops.
"We're good," Ashton pants, listing to the side so he can lay down in the shelter he has some-fucking-how created.
Chetney and Orym make concerned sounds of alarm until they notice that nothing bad is happening from Ashton slumping down onto his side, curled around them in the dark with only the lightshow in his head to offer a soft glow to the space now that he's done raging.
"Wha-? How?" Chetney breathes out, looking at the solid stonework arch now protecting them.
"Fuck if I know," Ashton murmurs, curling even tighter around his friends. He's exhausted from holding up the collapsed ceiling, and in a way he's never really been before, probably from bossing the rocks around. And all Ashton wants in that moment is to hold his people close, know they're still breathing 'cause he did good, and sleep.
"Titan shit?" Orym asks.
"Think so," he replies, eyes drifting shut, humming a little pleasure as the other two gingerly settle back against him, and trying to ignore how he can still feel the stone around him like an extension of himself, can feel their weight pressed to the ground as well.
Ashton drifts, barely aware of Orym and Chetney quietly talking next to him. Doesn't really move until there's the grinding of stone on stone as Fearne and Imogen finally excavate them. Until Bells Hells are all pushing into the little space he created.
It's scary as fuck to know that there's more power in him just waiting to be awakened.
But a little reassuring too, to know it's there to be found when he needs it to protect his people.
Essentially I gave Ashton free use of the spell Stone Shape as a titan blood ability, just to explain the mechanical idea of how he made the rocks self-support.

"Friend" - Asiné's Diary Page 4
@abalonetea @synobun
Page One Page Two Page Three I'm not as happy with this page, but I wanted to share it anyway.~ I'll probably do some edits and post to the AoA site when it's ready...
---- (cont. of Day X-1):
My legs gave out. I landed on something soft and springy. My rescuer had unusual features. I expected to see wings. Surely she was an angel that was swooped in and flew me here. But she didn't have any. Her skin was a pale grey, her eyes were dark, and her hair black as night. She had pointed ears. She watched me for a moment before speaking. It should have been no surprise to me, but I couldn't understand a word she was saying.
I didn't expect a response. But I spoke anyway, to ask if anyone spoke English. Embarrassingly enough, my voice sounded hoarse and strange. How long had it been since I spoke last? There's no way to know, even now, writing this, I can't say how long I've been here.
But she responded! In English! Her accent was thick, and unlike anything I had heard before. I'll do my best to recount the conversation...
"Ah! English. It had to be English." She sounded disgusted, "I am glad you spoke. It makes it easier to figure out the language issue. You are lucky we get so many Earthkin here. Or I would not have known your language!"
"There are others like me?!" I struggled to get to my feet.
She gave a slow nod, as if she was unsure it was right sign for what she wanted to convey. "Yes, but you cannot see them yet. I saved you. From Pyron. We must talk about this first."
She motioned for me to follow her as she began walking away. I took one look back, to the space we flew in from. I contemplated running. I followed.

Where one's perspective existed, so did another, analogous in relationship; a person of great intellect saw both equally. Uraume carried this torch wherever they traveled. Their perspective limited and by default, flawed. When another expanded their understanding, inherently fortifying their own strength. Alas, they arrived to the city's museum of history and art. Despite the wide range of artifacts, the museum did little to provide the circumstances of their imprisonment.
They admired a merciless, bloody painting from a war between elves and earthkin. Uraume smiled at the gory painting, tempted to reach forward and disturb the puddles of still blood. Oh, their skin tingling, and their insides churned in sweet ecstasy. Their lips parted, voice brazened with a sweet sound.
That sweet, succulent sound was severed by a clattering of heels against marble flooring. Uraume felt the immense presence at their side, and even a small turn led them face-to-face with a bright-eyed, blonde maiden whose cheeks were rose-stained. "EH!?" Uraume took a step back, "Are you empty in the head!? Do you not understand boundaries-- w-why are you insistent on staring!?"

Some notes on my pacrim fantasy au:
Herc became King of the Wild when he married Angela, who was the princess of the kingdom. The people loves him so much for his dedication to the kingdom that everyone is dead loyal to him.
The Prince of the Wild tile means Chuck can communicate with animals. He can even ask for their assistance in battle if he wanted, but he doesn't usually 'cause he don't like them getting hurt for dumb stuff.
Whenever the Goddess is mention, it's a reference to a deity that acts in almost any territory: the Lady of Dangers, aka the equivalent of G. Danger.
The Beckets were not really royalty. The Pale (or the white lands of the North) didn't use to have royalty at all. Instead, the land belongs to the real icekin tribes (the equivalent of the Inuits). When the demonic invasion began, the Goddess chose the Beckets as coverage for the icekin tribes, giving them a kingdom in exchange for them to become the first line of protection between demons and the sacred lands.
That's why, when Yancy dies, his spirit stayed and the Goddess ascended him. He is dead as a human, but he lives now as the immortal protector of the Pale, aka Knight of Danger / the White Knight.
When the Hunter Order / The Order of the Hunters was created, two members of the tribe took the vow along with the Beckets. Ilisapie Flint and Zeke Amorak were selected by the Chrome Goddess to act as the second line of defense in the Pale. This means that the chrome cousins and the danger brother are good friends, but rarely see each other or even work together.
Mako is a priestess of the Goddess. She took the vow young, but old enough to give her consent as a woman. She was 18 years old.
Mako is skykin. She used to live in the City in the Skies, before the demons climbed all over it and brought it down, killing her parents. She was taught by her father how to shape the wind into a blade, her weapon of choice.
Pentecost is human, but trained with the Thunder Guard since young age. Affinity to electricity is affinity to the skykin, so it's not a surprise he was such a good teacher to Mako or that his sister, Luna, was a skyrider herself.
The Hansens are have earth affinity, but Chuck has a special brand on himself, courtesy of his mom. The Wild is a kin of its own, one that demands things of the Prince, but offers mysterious benefits in the future.
Tamsin and Pentecost had twin giant coyotes as their partners, assigned to them on the thunder guard. Tamsin has fire affinity, btw.
The Kaidonovsky are hybrids or demi-bloods, part earthkins and part icekins. They do not obey a goddess or a king, but a court of giants, magical terrifying creatures that protect their territory with the ferocity of true love. The codenames Cherno and Alpha came from the job Sasha and Aleksis had before joining the Hunter Order: they used to supervise the black and white pool of magic to make sure only the right people entered their territory --and punish the traspasers.
The Wei Tang brothers are the sons of the Crimson Goddess. They're said to have been once upon conception, but one day playing with mortals, the kid emtered a typhoons and came out as three different beings. The Goddess allows them to do as they please and takes great pride on them being Hunters of beasts.
I'll do my best to include as many pilots as I can, since most of them are alive in the story!
