What a pleasure to come across "The Lost Tapes" - a collection of demos that chronicle the only output of the band Mad Anthony. Read the entire write-up on Bandcamp to get all the details - but essentially Mad Anthony member John Schwab's son, Ben, (himself a member of Drugdealer and Sylvie) convinced his Dad and other members to let these recordings be heard publicly 40 years after they were made.
The songs sound like the bands they covered when they started out in Ohio: The Byrds, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jackson Browne. I can't help but also think of Randy Newman. This recording was made in the San Fernando Valley (Southern California).
And finally, this made me think of an album I was listening to and enjoying but couldn't post because there is no physical release: Anna McClellan's "off my chest: 2012-2021".
Mad Anthony is being released by Earth Libraries - an incredibly diverse label based in Birmingham, Alabama.

In My Head - The Block (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1302759085-in-my-head-the-block?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_reading&wp_uname=dopeblackauthor&wp_originator=hKbQWE4ic3RRhUL9xoUZ7HXdsE1Mk86KIIbL7yUFIGqZ6gV4E2RZtsvTNMXychEjluLXNgSnOrmrDk5j5sggOBeg3%2BBcv7SVCb9AzaQmAaSS7E1MbHqEzp5LeUXLsqgR The streets of Chicago are dangerous for any kid, but fifteen year old Jericho grew up watching his dad and brother run them: Selling drugs and taking matters into their own hands. When his brother is killed in front of him and his father goes to prison for murder, Jericho has no choice but to step up and take care of his three younger sisters. Selling drugs on the side to help his mom pay the bills, the world is on his shoulders. Life is hard, but it gets harder when the streets collide with his family and Jericho loses everything he loves. When Jericho finally moves to a new state and the pressure is off, he has to learn to cope in the aftermath of loss.

Anyone looking for bands that feel like they’re old but are actually new so that seeing them live isn’t impossible? Here’s a little list:
• The Mellons - Very 60s beach boys/mammas and papas inspired. Listen to “What a Time to Be Alive” and “So Much to Say”
•Night Moves - An ode to 70s/80s soft rock. Think if Todd Rundgren and George Harrison had a 2010s baby. Check out “Carl Sagan” and “Colored Emotions” (They also happen to be one of the best bands I’ve seen live ever)
•Drugdealer - Another 70s vibe. “Madison” genuinely feels like a sister song to “Brandy(You’re a fine girl)”
•Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Totally groovy psychedelia mixed with retro punk. “Reaper” is a personal favorite.
•Wunderhorse - One of my favorite artists right now. His voice is heavenly and I actually thought he was a 90s grunge-era musician when I first heard his stuff. “Leader of the Pack” and “Purple” are actually perfect songs.
•Bedouine - Folk singer-songwriter. She gives Janice Ian/Joan Baez vibes. Listen to “The Solitude”
There’s so many more but these are my favorites right now.

AllMusic Staff Picks:
Drugdealer
Raw Honey
Drugdealer's second album builds upon their Laurel Canyon aesthetic with elaborate baroque arrangements and sunny harmonies. Elements of post-Beatles Beatles albums float through the melodies, and the big production sounds like they have some Harry Nilsson/Jon Brion records in their record collection.

Drug Dealer Dylan (Headcannon 1/?)
let’s get into it y’all
TW: mentions of trauma (broadly)
He’s often busy, and seems cold and distant until he’s with you; then he shows you lots of love and affection - almost to the point of smothering you to make up for lost time
You’re his no. 1 girl, so he treats you like a princess, constantly spoiling you with all the things you love and then some
Because you’re his girl he expects you to act as such; when he’s around he wants your focus to be on him and only him
He gets jealous to the point of possessiveness if you’re entertaining male company, even if they’re only casual friends or coworkers
He only has eyes for you, even if other women try to get his attention
His job is stressful, obviously, so after a long day the last thing he wants to deal with is drama. he’s also a straight shooter - if he thinks something, he’ll say it, and he won’t mince words
With your past (traumatic childhood) he is more selective in how he says things with you, but he also knows you respect upfront honesty
Because of your past, he’s more protective than he has been with most of his ex-girlfriends; your friends tell you he’s being overbearing and toxic, but you know it all comes from a good place, and besides, you never had that growing up and he meets that unmet need and you love him for it
How do you show your love? You’re clingy at times, and have to remind yourself over and over again that just because he isn’t always texting or calling you as much as your friends’ boyfriends do doesn’t mean he cares for you any less
On particularly hard days for you (whenever it’s raining a lot, or you go days without seeing anyone as you live alone, and your friends aren't getting together or aren’t inviting you out), you find it harder to ignore those dark thoughts, like:
“is he with another woman? Is he just trying to let me down easy and hope I’ll get the hint and break up with him first?”
He’s not super active on social media, but he has an instagram account, and if you see a female commenting or liking his pictures, you get instantly suspicious that he’s cheating; when that coincides with a tough day for you emotionally it’s the perfect storm, and you may isolate yourself for days
Then he replies to your text or calls you on FaceTime just because he wants to see “my gorgeous girl”, and everything is good in the world again
You worry sometimes you depend too much on him but he always reassures you, in word and in action, that’s far from the truth
