James Rackover, New York inmate 18A4669, born 1991, incarceration intake in 2018 at age 27, scheduled for release 07/16/2045
Murder, Hindering Prosecution, Concealment of a Corpse
Also know as James Beaudoin, Florida inmate L81529, incarcerated at age 21 in 2012 for 16 months, discharged 07/12/2013; Convicted of.a Burglary offence from 2009.
A Manhattan playboy was sentenced to consecutive maximum prison terms for slicing a man's throat and dumping his body in a shallow New Jersey Grave after a night of partying in 2016.
James Rackover, 27, was sentenced to 28 and 2/3 years-to-life in prison in Manhattan Supreme Court for the murder of Joseph Comunale.
Before delivering his sentence, the Judge berated Rackover and said he was deserving the maximum penalty available.  “This is precisely the rare kind of case that maximum consecutive sentences are reserved for, and no other lesser sentence would make much sense,' the Judge said.
District Attorney Cy Vance in a statement: 'James Rackover committed a brutal and unconscionable crime when he killed Joey Comunale and abandoned him at a makeshift gravesite in New Jersey.'
'The judge's sentence of 28 and 2/3 years-to-life in prison — the maximum permitted by state law — was the only appropriate sentence to address the pain and loss that Joey's murder inflicted on the Comunale family,' Vance added
'I think it sends a message to the other two defendants,' Pat Comunale told reporters after the verdict. 'The judge made the right decision.'
Also convicted were Larry Dilione (New York inmate 19A0591, sentenced to 23 years; and Max Gemma -- described as receiving a “sweetheart deal” of 6 months in county jail for Hindering Prosecution.
Rackover, Comunale and his friend Larry Dillione had been at Rackover's Upper East Side apartment after a night of drug-fueled partying.
The pair met Comunale at a Greenwich Village nightclub and the trio had returned to Rackover's home but got in a fight in an apparent row over cigarettes.
Other reports indicated at the time that it was because Comunale had rejected their sexual advances.
Comunale, a Hofstra graduate, was stabbed multiple times, strangled and beaten.
His body was found in a shallow grave in Oceanport, New Jersey, after being burned.
Police were led to Rackover and Dilione after reviewing surveillance cameras which picked up Rackover's car. His EZ Pass also showed him traveling through tolls which led to the site.
They first threw the body out the window of Rackover's 2nd floor apartment and left it in a garbage bag outside the building but thought better of their plan, drove it to New Jersey, set it on fire and buried it.
Rackover's defense was that it was Dillione who beat Comunale to death and that he only helped him dispose of the body the next day in New Jersey.
A jury convicted him of second degree murder, hindering prosecution and concealment of a human corpse.
The jury was also shown evidence including the bloody clothes he was wearing on the day of the attack.
The attack, Dilione said, happened after a fight over cigarettes.
Claiming that he was responsible only for punching the young man, Dilione told a court in March how he watched Rackover stab him once the fight got out of hand.
'I turned around and that's when I saw the knife being pulled out of Joey's head,' he said.
Dilione claimed that the fight started when Comunale accused him of taking free alcohol and drugs from him and Rackover without paying his way.
He allegedly said: 'James is bringing cocaine, I've got cigarettes, what the f*** are you bringing to the table.'
It was previously reported the fight was over Comunale rejecting the pair and their sexual advances.
Furious, he lunged at him and began beating him, he said.
'I said, 'I'll take the blame,' but he said 'Look at my hands,' and they were covered in blood. At that point [Rackover] started to strangle him,' he said.
He had been arrested multiple times for burglary, armed robbery, and drug possession before Comunale's death.
At some stage afterwards, he met Jeffery Rackover,  and moved to New York City where they each held apartments in the same building.
'Jeffrey never had children, he developed a relationship with this young man and introduced him to his family,' private detective Bo Dietl, a friend of 30 years, told DailyMail.com in 2016.
'Jimmy was a troubled young man and Jeffrey hoped to get him back on his feet.'
Jeffrey, whose A-list clients include Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez and Melania Trump, even got James a job at Willis Towers Watson insurance company along with his own apartment.
'Jeffrey was on the 32nd floor and James on the fourth floor,' said Dietl.
'They first met, I believe, at a health club about three-and-a-half years ago.
'Jimmy moved into the apartment about a year ago. Jimmy changed his name to James Rackover because Jeffrey liked this kid so much.'
Comunale's father claimed 57-year-old Jeffrey provided cleaning supplies to Rackover and claimed the pair were in a sexual relationship.
The lawsuit also says that Jeffrey let Rackover borrow his Mercedes-Benz to dispose of the victim's dismembered remains on the Jersey Shore.
Jeffrey's lawyer John Rosenberg has denied the claims in the lawsuit and said that the suit was 'grasping at straws'
Editor Note:
At some point after discharge from prison in Florida, he moved to New York and became connected with Jeffery Rackover, celebrity jeweller.  Beaudoin at that point began to go by Rackover,  He is listed on NY DOC records under Rackover.

“The Last Testament of Lucky Luciano” (The Commission, DC Comics)
The Commission, was formed by advocates for the homeless, during World War 1, between Ernest Charlebois’s tours as Canadian and American infantry, through the Atlantic City affair.
Cornelius Vanderbilt was identified by the nascent Canadian defense industry out of the Bombardiers of Canada, the Bruces of Scotland, and the Smiths of Japan, as a clear and present danger (the origin of the term, Kurdi logic given smuggling of new wares to England on the Jordan German route, as highwaymen).  Vanderbilt, while being homeless formerly in family, and self, himself, had developed a small, underground movement, venture capital, based on delivery routes of food and orders, to cops, from small bistros, shops, and meat packing plants (especially to politician’s homes and pizza bagel bistros, a sump pump for the union affiliated industry of Philadelphia and state police priory offices, the Episcopalian “reich” at the time, the Fourth through Third they called it, the predecessor to Batman’s oldest foe - Adolf Hitler).
Ernest Charlebois, forming Attleboro Carpet from money provided through the COBRA insurance plan for cops and teachers that had passed college admissions through the now defunct Carnegie system (labor overhaul for a “Coolidge”, a down share of investment for a “laydown”, a front payment on a business failing), placed it upon himself, to start a New Jersey branch of his business, making contact with Enoch Johnson, not yet sheriff of the future Atlantic City; a gambling mecca to come, meant to catch Vanderbilt, long deceased, in a python trap - a media journalist with the Vanderbilt message, would be provided a bidding odds with a vig to the own investor, plus an electoral theory, meant to be ignored to be utilized, hence office would be guaranteed if ignored, however with a mass investment, utilized; the hotel business, some day, Trump Towers.  The real pawn to catch, Sulla, the Despot.
Each concept, in the print book for the business, “The Last Testament of Lucky Luciano”, is a code, for a cop union applied to “comics”, the trades of any type, a mutual communal fund, our of illicit, wares, and even legal businesses, but never corporate, a “Nucky”, a Jewish cop is offended (someone is given a drug investment, with a money laundered scheme, in two sets of hands, hence the individual given the scheme, will default the entire drug market, coming to own it, before it shuts down, with foreign intelligence expelled at harshest quarter, through the Narcotics Bureau; a journalist will be framed, upon provided tip from a police unit, on a ‘gangster’, with a ‘crime syndicate’; actually an intelligence mercantile attempting a military, civilian, paramilitary, or criminal financial deal.
The comics themselves, are a talent draw, outside of normal writer’s drafts, with each “company”, even independent labels (future models, the “escapes”), having a criminal sociology study unit, for the introduction of a new character, suited per franchise to company (preference on character ‘line’, a mobile axis), a ‘franchise’ (the function of the character placed, the ‘swing’), and a ‘zigline’ (the relationship to veteran characters, handlers), plus a prohibition on ‘calumny’ (one of you has printed, your own firm’s origin pool, you are inside a character from “Last Testament of Lucky Luciano”, outed for a felony offense, anywhere on the planet).
The institution, the Commission, still exists today, rumored to be Jewish or Italian, merely beneficiaries, often named “French”, or using “Irish”, the former a leader, the latter a “merc”, a penmanship specialist; it’s actually a Kurdi business, related to insurance through Jews, on mineral and natural and fuel resources, to fund munitions, but only those produced within Canada, deployed only to America, all other contracts illegal (a ‘peace process’, somewhere in the world, to ‘scam’, a KGB press unit, always and every time the assumed foe, to be labeled KGB if not, giving the Stasi, Spetznatz, Moscow Police, or Federalist Variables, responsibility over investigation, a ‘day trade’, to the former Warsaw Pact, a ‘courtesy’, from England).

The court set standards on when and how jurors can be subjected to background checks by prosecutors and established a process for challenging those investigations if discrimination is suspected. The justices also called for a judicial conference on jury selection -- which means the ruling could eventually result in even more much-needed reform to that process.
It’s a rare and commendable decision to re-examine the longstanding, difficult questions about how to eliminate discrimination in jury selection.
Katherine Carter, public information officer for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, which handled Andujar's case, told me they're still reviewing the ruling.
"We believe the assistant prosecutor who tried the case acted in good faith based on the caselaw at the time" and "we do not believe that the prosecutor acted with any racial bias," Carter said. "We respect the ruling of the court and will apply it during retrial and any other cases going forward."
The undisputed facts about the proceedings make a pretty compelling case, on their own, that at least some implicit bias was at play.
One of the prospective jurors at Andujar’s trial was F.G., a Black man from Newark who worked for the East Orange Department of Public Works.
F.G. mentioned two family members who were cops. He’d grown up in a neighborhood with a lot of crime, and some of his friends had sold drugs. Crime victims also were part of his circles, including two cousins that were murdered, and a friend who was robbed at gunpoint.
“I think it just come[s] with the territory,” F.G. said.
F.G. stressed that he stayed away from criminal activity, the court said. He stated that he believed the judicial system was generally effective.
Prosecutors challenged F.G. for cause – meaning they argued he couldn’t be impartial or wouldn’t follow court instructions. They said his friends and background “draw into question whether he respects the criminal justice system,” according to the opinion.
Defense attorneys responded that F.G.’s story was typical for certain neighborhoods. The state’s position was “untenable” because it excludes too many people from places like Newark from serving on juries, Andujar’s counsel said.
The lower court rejected the prosecutors argument, saying there was no basis to dismiss F.G. for cause.
That's when the prosecution took a turn.
County attorneys ran a criminal history check on F.G., and  found an open municipal court warrant for simple assault (which includes attempting to physically harm another person, and physically threatening someone).
Prosecutors then contacted the city fugitive squad to have F.G. arrested before the next day of jury selection. When that didn’t pan out, they told the judge they were going to lock F.G. up during the next court date, and they renewed their for-cause challenge. The court ultimately arranged to excuse F.G. and have him arrested outside the other jurors' view.
After all that, the charges against F.G. were dropped two months later. It also bears noting that an outstanding warrant doesn’t actually bar someone from jury service in New Jersey.
On appeal, the Supreme Court noted that the “practice of running background checks on prospective jurors raises a question of first impression.”
Prosecutor's said it’s “extremely rare” for them to investigate jurors’ criminal records. But there are indications that the practice is more common than one might imagine.
I asked attorney Dennis Drasco, a member of Lum, Drasco & Positan in New Jersey, about the prevalence of the practice. Drasco has served on multiple panels and commissions to study and improve jury selection for over a decade, both with the state judiciary and with the American Bar Association.
"The problem is that a lot people don't even realize the effect of certain practices," Drasco said. The court's ruling as to implicit bias "is a wake up call" that the problematic practice exists, he said.
The Supreme Court in Andujar’s case said it couldn't question “the State’s good-faith belief that it had the authority to run the background check.” Even defense counsel didn’t formally object when the government moved to arrest F.G. -- a prospective juror who wouldn't have been arrested otherwise -- as an apparent means of excluding him from the pool. (Defense attorneys did put concerns on the record that prosecutors singled out a juror for a background check, and that the move implicated constitutional due process concerns.)
The deference to the prosecutors' move by the court and opposing counsel suggests the practice isn't entirely uncommon, and the high court’s review of case law also shows the practice is at least generally accepted.
Iowa allows prosecutors to conduct background checks on jurors for good cause, and with a court order. At least six  states allow it if prosecutors also disclose the information to defense attorneys. Just as many states, at least seven, “impose no such limits on the prosecution,” the court said.
New Jersey’s new rules require court permission before checking a juror's criminal history – and a “reasonable, individualized, good-faith” reason to believe it might reveal pertinent information that may not be uncovered by jury questionnaires or voir dire. Certain explanations will be considered presumptively invalid, the court said, including checking jurors' backgrounds simply because they express a distrust of law enforcement or lived in a high-crime neighborhood. And, if prosecutors move to strike a juror based on the results, the defense can still challenge that strike as discriminatory.
It’s a solid start, and the court clearly believes there’s more work to be done.
to summarize, a black guy showed up for jury duty and said yeah, he knew people who sold drugs cause he lived in a poor neighbourhood. prosecutors tried to strike him but defense noted that if we struck everybody who knew drug dealers from juries, we’d be ending up with racially biased juries. prosecution then ran a background check and came up with something minor to arrest him with when he showed up for jury duty. the new jersey supreme court ended up calling out the prosecutor’s conduct, although only verbally, but more importantly used it as grounds to give the defendant in that case a new trial.

54 years marked down to 27 years -- struck a deal, and received half the sentence he originally received.
Brandon D Wilson, New Jersey inmate 429822G, born 1998, incarceration intake in 2019 at age 21, initially scheduled for release on May 2060; released June 2020; returned to incarceration November 2023 at age 25, scheduled release June 2041
Murder (conviction overturned); Criminal Mischief while in Custody, Assault on LEO while in Custody, Manslaughter
Minutes before a Paulsboro man was sentenced to 54 years in prison for killing Shawneeq M. Carter during a burglary in Woodbury, the victim’s father spoke about his pain.
“I wasn’t there to protect her when she needed me the most and for the rest of my life I have to live with that agony,” Sean Carter told the court on Friday.
A Gloucester County jury convicted Brandon D. Wilson, 21, on first-degree murder and other charges for the September 2017 killing of Carter, 26, of Camden County.
Wilson’s parents were sentenced to probation Friday for hindering a police investigation of the case.
Carter was house sitting for a friend in Woodbury and was staying there with her 5-year-old son and a 5-year-old cousin, when Wilson broke into the home and bludgeoned the woman with a metal bar from a weight bench. She was also stabbed during the attack.
The children were sleeping at the time and woke to find the woman dead.
Wilson had lived in that house for five months as a foster child, authorities previously said.
”When asked if he had anything to say prior to sentencing, Wilson responded, “Not at all, your honor. ”Defense attorney David A. Snyder explained that Wilson declined to speak to preserve his right to appeal his case. Snyder said his client maintains his innocence.
Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson reviewed Wilson’s extensive criminal history, including charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction and drug offenses.
A day or two before the killing, Wilson was released from jail in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he had been held for skipping a court hearing on a drug charge. A car linked to the murder case was reported stolen from a home near the jail shortly after his release, the judge noted.
Allen-Jackson also spoke about the severity of the killing.“This was an especially cruel and heinous crime,” she said. “Not only was she beaten about the body with the exercise equipment, but also stabbed with the knife. The blade of the knife had been dislodged from its handle. Part of her brain did suffer a laceration and there were injuries over and above what was needed to terminate her life.
”Wilson showed no emotion as the sentence was read. He even yawned.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Bryant Flowers presented DNA evidence that tied Wilson to the killing, video surveillance of the defendant near the scene and GPS data from the stolen car that placed him near the home.
Wilson’s parents were charged with hindering after investigators arrived at the family’s house and found the two pairs of shoes in the attic, where they were still wet and smelled of a cleaning solution.
David A. Wilson, 54, and Kim Ward, 52, pleaded guilty to hindering charges in November as they were also preparing to face trial.
Both apologized for their actions Friday before they were each sentenced to two years of probation.
Attorneys for the parents argued for leniency, noting that the couple has health and financial issues, and both are in drug treatment.shoes were taken for inspection in connection with the investigation. He was in jail on unrelated charges at the time and had not yet been charged in the killing.
In June 2020, an appeals court overturned and threw out the conviction on the grounds that the inmate was denied a fair trial because of repeated prejudicial testimony.
The case was resubmitted for trial with new charges of lesser seriousness.
A new trial was scheduled to begin in August 2023, but Wilson instead struck a plea deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead to a first-degree aggravated manslaughter charge in return for a shorter sentence.
His other charges, including burglary, hindering, receiving stolen property and weapons offenses, were dismissed under the agreement.
Wilson, who was 19 years old when he was charged in the case, had lived in the Woodbury house where the killing occurred for five months as a foster child in 2016 and was previously caught trespassing at the home after moving out, authorities said.
The prosecution presented DNA evidence that tied Wilson to the killing, along with video surveillance of Wilson near the scene and GPS data from a stolen car that placed him close to the house.
Under terms of the plea agreement, Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith resentenced Wilson to 27 years in prison, with a requirement that he serve 85% of that time before he’s eligible for parole.

The Murder of Anne Marie Fahey
Tumblr media
Anne Marie Fahey of Wilmington, Delaware, had had a turbulent, parentless childhood. When she got selected to be the Appointments Secretary for the Governor of Delaware, it was presumed that her life would take a turn for the better.
Thomas Capano, a wealthy and politically involved attorney (the Capano family-owned multi-millions worth of real estate), started a sordid affair with the charming, attractive, and also 17-year-younger, Annie, after spotting her at the governor’s office.
This affair with this narcissistic and controlling millionaire cost her her life. Her diary entries spoke of great pain and misery.
Rich But Manipulative
Tom Capano, like the textbook rich admirer, would gift her clothes, shoes, a TV, books, cash, and appliances and even offered to buy her a car and an apartment. For any young woman on a $30,000 per year salary, his attentions would be flattering.
Undeterred by the fact that he was married, Anne Marie realized too late what sort of a man she was dealing with. She wrote in her diary:
“I allowed someone to take control of every decision in my life … a controlling, manipulative, insecure, jealous maniac.”
He would use his wealth, age, and power to tell her what to wear, what to eat, and who to associate with.
Jealousy Takes Over
Unhappy in her relationship with the millionaire, Anne Marie reportedly started an affair with another man, 31-year-old executive, Michael Scanlan. While Capano was a serial womanizer and had countless affairs with other women, he couldn’t tolerate Anne Marie’s love for someone else.
She had broached the fact that they should break up to him, who, unable to deal with rejection and unwilling to lose control, shot her and got rid of her body. Strangely, Anne Marie kept her relationship with him a complete secretfrom her family and the man she was seeing- which would prevent immediate suspicion on Capano when she disappeared.
Dinner Date Before the Murder
The last time Fahey was spotted in public was with Capano, who had taken her to a trendy restaurant in Philadelphia called Ristorante Panorama. The night of June 27th, 1996, she met him after an email conversation. Both their tones in the e-mails indicated no unfriendliness at all.
This was very different from the beseeching and furious phone calls he had made to her when he found out about her affair with Michael Scanlan. In one email, Capano seemed willing to talk it out with her and end the affair amicably. It was these countless e-mails and the notes her sister found in her diary that would give investigators a clue as to who was behind her disappearance.
Anne Marie Goes Missing
The staff at the restaurant reported that Anne Marie had looked haggard, tired and confused. Capano was domineering, intimidating and would order her meal for her. Neither of them ate much and barely spoke to one another.
By June 30th, when Anne Marie did not show up to her job, her dinner appointment with the man she loved, and didn’t answer any phone calls, her family was swift in calling the police. A missing report was filed, and her apartment was searched. It was uncharacteristically messy, a dress was lying, waiting to be put on, and some grocery was unpacked. Her purse was still home and her car was still parked outside.
Manipulation to Murder: A Web of Lies and Deceit
Capano and Anne Marie’s credit card records were analyzed by the FBI, who had gotten involved because the case spanned two states- Delaware and Pennsylvania. They uncovered a strange purchase of new carpets at Wallpaper Warehouse made by Capano two days after Fahey went missing. The $308 had been used to purchase a rug- police suspected foul play.
Had Capano rolled Fahey’s dead body in the old carpet and thus needed a new one? Capano had requested his housekeeper to not come in for work for a week after the disappearance, and when she did return, she found a love seat and old carpet missing. He had also reportedly inquired about blood-removing products at a local store.
Capano’s shifting stories about the night of the dinner and his behavior, finally made the police search his house. They found two splotches of dried blood- the DNA would later match Anne Marie’s.
Testimony from a site manager further stirred police suspicions; Capano had ordered 4 large dumpsters at a site to be emptied when they weren’t even full. Capano’s brothers sided with him. Thepolice suspected that one of them at least was involved in the murder or the cover-up.
The Brother’s Involvement
Gerry Campano, Tom’s brother, had reportedly sold his boat, and the buyer reported to the police that it had been sold without anchors. With months quickly passing, the police needed a quick lead. They decided to surveil Gerry, collecting information on his illicit drug use and weapon possession.
The FBI raided his house to find several firearms and cocaine in his 3-year-old son’s closet. They offered Gerry a plea deal instead of charges of child endangerment and drug possession.
The plan worked like magic- Gerry admitted that Tom had sought his help in disposing of a body. He told the police that Tom had wanted an extortionist dead, and had borrowed $8,000 and a gun from him. He had returned the gun a month later. Gerry hadn’t seen who the body belonged to when Tom told him he needed the boat on the morning of June 28th, 1996.
A huge marine cooler contained the bodyof Anne-Marie, which was then chucked into the ocean. The cooler would float atop the ocean, and Tom was not having any of it. He took the body out from the cooler, weighed it down with the anchor from the boat. Gerry’s story would corroborate the dumpster-emptying story- the dumpsters contained a couch with bloodstains.
Patterns Emerging — An Unusual Case
This murder case relied more on theory than on evidence. Prosecutors theorized that Capano had brought Anne Marie to his place, where she had waited, unsuspecting, on the love seat. He then shot her, contacted Gerry in the morning to dispose of her body, and then covered his tracks. For the beginning of the trial, the prosecution had no murder weapon, no body, and no witnesses to the crime except Gerry, who hadn’t seen the corpse’s face.
A final, essential piece of evidence would be found by a New Jersey resident, who discovered a cooler, floating in the river and collected it for his use. The cooler had bullet holes from when Tom had tried to get it to sink, and had bloodstains on it.
The barcode on the cooler was a match with the receipt of the cooler Tom Capano had bought some months ago- the prosecution had damning evidence. Many testimonials would help create an airtight case against Capano. The cooler had red fabric stuck in it- a red dress was missing from Fahey’s house.
A Solid Case Against Capano
Restaurant staff were called in to tell how both Fahey and Capano had been acting- she was visibly distressed and he was intimidating. The defense argued that Anne Marie could not have wanted to break up with him as badly as she let on because she continued to accept gifts from him. He, therefore, did not have any reason to kill her.
The prosecution said that she was too scared to break up their affair- Capano had a history of not taking no for an answer. The FBI had a report regarding Capano threatening, stalking, and harassing a female legal intern who had rejected his sexual advances. Close associates also reported that he was a serial womanizer and was very entitled when it came to women responding to him the way he wanted to.
Capano’s shifting stories made him a prime suspect in the eyes of everyone. He once said that the blood on the love seat that he dumped was from Fahey’s period, and then said that she had tried to slit her wrists on the seat. His flummoxed attorneys would constantly ask him to stop changing his stories.
Juries, Trials, and Death
There was no doubt that Capano was responsible for the disappearance and murder of Anne Marie Fahey. The 12-person jury came back with a guilty verdict for first-degree murder on January 17th, 1999, 11–1. Capano was sentenced to death on March 16th,1999.
Since the jury was not unanimous in their decision for the death penalty, Capano’s lawyers appealed for a change in the sentence. The obstruction of justice, premeditation and planning, and ‘statutory aggravation’ in the case was considered sufficient grounds for a death sentence. Execution for a murderer in a case with no murder weapon, no witnesses, and strangest of all, no recovered body was pretty untraditional.
Capano remained in custody, and his death sentence was overturned to life imprisonment in 2006. This was the result of the US Supreme Court ruling in Ring v Arizona, adopted by the state of Delaware. In 2011, he died from a cardiac arrest
My sympathy and love goes out to this poor girl. She should have been able to live a full life, but that was brutally taken away from her.

1950: Top secret Tamarind expedition executed. Many of Earth’s population note these UFO sightings, however this is not the first time it’s been recorded throughout human history; sightings and interaction date back to the early civilizations, though no scientific evidence is made public.
1957: Major breakthroughs in artificial intelligence are made.
1958: The National Aeronautics and Space Act is signed, creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Shortly thereafter, a top secret facility in Nevada named “Area 51” is revealed to be used for testing related to space findings and “other experiments.”
1962: In reaction to the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, President Kennedy makes a similar show of force by unveiling new military weapons: particle beams, mother boxes, and boom tubes. Ultimately, however, the Soviet Union and the U.S. agree to not engage in any acts of war.
1969: Hover cars and boards hit the market.
1970: Justice Society of America (JSA) formed; the birth of “super” heroes.

1986: A.I. pop group, New Kids on the Block, take the world by storm with their debut.
1988: LexCorp trades publicly for the first time, setting record high opening days on the U.S. Stock Market in only its first year.
1991: The end of the Cold War and the advancement of technology marks a seismic shift in priorities for the CIA. Responsibilities have grown to now include counterterrorism, nonproliferation of advanced weapons and weapons of mass destruction, warning/informing American leaders of important overseas events, counterintelligence, cyber intelligence and warning/informing American leaders of extraterrestrial threat/contact.
1992: Beating advancements made since the 60’s in Japan, America’s first high speed rail system is finally completed, with its grand terminal built in Central City, allowing for cross-country travel in only a matter of hours. Rogue scientists alert the media of the use of a cosmic force known as the speed force to aid the system.

Random Pulp Hero Thoughts
So, I'm on a bit of a Holmes kick, RN; two of the books I read last week had vague Holmes ties...
-Murder In Old Bombay by Nev March, a mystery set in 19th Century India who's protagonist decides to become a detective after reading the then-recently published The Sign of the Four.
-The Dark Archive by Genevieve Cogman, who's protagonist chose to name herself after The Woman, and who's supporting cast includes Peregrine Vale, a Great Detective from an alternate universe weird steampunk Victorian London who is repeatedly noted as being very Holmes-like.
...and the two books I finished this week and the third I've begun and will finish next week, are even more so. In backwards order...
-There's A Murder Afoot by Vicki Delany, the secondmost recent installment (which I missed on initial publication due to the Current COVID Crisis) in the "Sherlock Holmes Bookshop" series of cozy mysteries, about an expat British woman who runs a Sherlock Holmes-themed bookstore in a small New England resort town and keeps solving mysteries with the Holmesian intellectual abilities she refuses to acknowledge she has. This book has her return to the UK, and introduces the fact that she has a more intelligent older sister who supposedly is a minor functionary in the British Government but clearly is of greater importance.
-The Case of the Baker Street Irregulars by Anthony Boucher, a recently-republished 1940 novel set in then-contemporary Hollywood. When Metropolitan Pictures announces that their upcoming film adapatation of The Speckled Band will be written by Stephen Worth, an ex-PI who's a devotee of the hardboiled subgenre of detective fiction an has made his utter disdain for the Great Detective genre and of Holmes in particular, that early fandom society launches a campaign to get him fired. In an effort to appease the BSI, who's number include quite a few influential public figures, five of them are invited to come to Hollywood and consult on the film. When Worth is murdered, they become the chief suspects...
And finally...
-In League With Sherlock Holmes, the latest anthology of "stories inspired by the Sherlock Holmes canon"  edited by Laurie B. King and Leslie S. Klinger. It comprises...
"The Strange Juju Affair At the Gacy Mansion" by Kwei Quartey. In contemporary Ghana, a police detective consults Superindentendent Mensah Blay, a legendary former member of the Ghana Police Service who has retired to make wooden children's toys, to help solve a crime that has him stumped. Very good, feels pretty Holmesiean despite, y'know...
"What My Father Never Told Me" by Tess Gerritsen. A young woman comes to Britain to dispose of her late father's ashes, and discovers he was part of something grander than she ever imagined. Yecch. This isn't a story, it's the prologue to a story, and also hinges on the idea that Holmes was actually a villain.
"The Case of the Wailing Ghosts" by Joe R. Lansdale and Kasey Lansdale. A duo of occult detectives are hired to break a ghost, and end up dealing with a supernatural murderer. Great story, not sure what it's doing in this book, asides from the two protagonists having a somewhat Holmes-and-Watson relationship.
"The Twenty-Five Year Engagement" by James W. Ziskin. A proper pastiche, pretty good.
"When You Hear Hoofbeats" by Robin Burcell. A contemporary detective story, with minimal Holmesian content, asides from some proper names (the victim is a plastic surgeon named John H. Watson, the suspects are his wife Mary and his business partner Joseph Bell), and the police detective narrator enlisting a former colleague who's become a PI to help solve the case. Good though.
"Mr. Holmes I Presume" by Joe Hill. This is a short essay written as an introduction to...
"Dying Is Easy" a short comic written by Hill, illustrated by Martin Simonds, apparently an installment of a series they did a few years back about a '90s cop-turned-standup-comedian who keeps having to solve crimes anyways named Syd "Shit-talk" Holmes. Not very Holmes-y, but fun.
"The Observance of Trifles" by Martin Edwards. the tale, in the form of a rather ramble-y blog posts and some comments on it, of how a Sherlockian becomes convinced that another Sherlockian who has become wealthy and famous with his works analyzing the Canon, has been plagiarizing him, and sets out to murder the man. All the characters are given pseudonyms drawn from the Canon, and vaste swathes of the text are quotes or paraphrases thereof. Fun, if a bit depressing.
"Infinite Loop" by Naomi Hirahara. An R.A. in 1980s Stanford University, Joann Wat, is forced to enlist the aid of Shel Rock, a Junior who is the dorm's resident drug dealer, when the parents of one of the Freshmen under her ostensible care may or may not have gone missing. Good stuff, not very original flavor-y of course, but there are some neat Holmesian touches asides from the proper names.
"A Seance in Liverpool" by Lisa Morton. A young ACD, about to set out on his stint as a ship's surgeon, before completing his Doctorate, is convinced bya friend to attend a seance. Things do not go as planned, but he gets an idea for a new character...Good stuff, not what you'd expect.
"Benchley" by Derek Haas. A printer's apprentice finds a body and summons the police. More I cannot say without spoiling. I love it, although it isn't quite Canon compliant.
"The Murderer's Paradox" by David Corbett. A tale narrated by Prof. Moriarty, which seems to follow the take that he was a Fennian. Or he's posing as one in order to enlist two young people as part of an effort to mess with Holmes, it's not clear. ACD's defense of the Boer War is crucial to the plot, though I wonder if some of the language used is anachronistic; did the terms "racist" and "Imperialist" in the modern, derogatory sense exist in 1902? Not a bad story by any means, but not for me.
"A Scandal On The Jersey Shore" by Brad Parks. In which a modern-day descendant of The Woman must prove her BFF isn't guilty of murder. A fun romp.
"The Adventure of the Northwood Bilker" by James Lincoln Warren. A contemporary Forensic Linguist, Shirley Ho, is hired to find a missing journalist who infiltrated a cult. Very good stuff, if a bit technical in places.
"Cumberbachelor" by Maria Alexander. In modern LA, a young woman must find a way to save her sister's wedding when their mother becomes convinced she's become engaged to Benedict Cumberbatch. Good story, not very Holmes-y.
"A Case of Mistaken Identity" by Chelsea Quinn Yarboro. A somewhat unethical therapist treats (or pretends to treat) a brilliant serial killer who believes himself to be Sherlock Holmes. The story hints that the POV character has A Plan in mind for his patient, but never states what said plan is. Not my cuppa.
