ahhh, okay, yay !! so, i have two snippets that i think you’ll like — there’s this one from the prologue, where the two of them first meet:

“I just don’t see what’s so terrible about knowing the difference between good and evil, anyway.”

“Well,” said the angel, in the subtly concerned tone of someone who cannot see it either and does not quite understand why they cannot see it. “It must be bad, um…”

“Fernando,” the demon supplied. He ignored the pang in his chest at the reality of not being remembered by the angel in front of him - it shouldn’t have surprised him, really, that the memory of him would have been erased from the the minds of those who had known him before he’d left Heaven. And the two of them had only met once, after all, shortly before his departure. And he had a new name now, anyway; the one he’d had as an angel was not at all suitable for someone living Below.

But still.

“Lanciel,” the angel returned, though he had been thinking recently of changing his name, or at least shortening it - Lanciel was a lovely name, of course, he was grateful to Heaven for giving it to him, but it was not quite him. “Anyway, it must have been bad. Otherwise you wouldn’t have been involved.”

and then this little random one from the doc of snippets for the fic i have, just a little funny one:

There was a moment of tense silence throughout the Aston, before Lance spoke, voice completely devoid of emotion in a way that was obviously deliberate. “So. Wrong boy?”

Fernando nodded, eyes haunted behind his sunglasses. “Wrong boy.”

“Wrong boy,” Lance repeated, and his voice was certainly not devoid of emotion in now. In fact, it was pitched so high as to be on the verge of hysteria, and shaking like a leaf in a Florida hurricane.

Fernando sighed. His glasses slid up slightly as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Wrong boy.”

Another moment of silence, this one shorter than the first, before Lance suddenly leaned forward. His forehead came to rest against the Aston’s dashboard, and then a high-pitched noise of distress filled the car, the kind that would have its place coming from a cat which has just had its tail stepped on - or, in this case, from an angel who has just realized he has been playing godfather to the wrong Antichrist for eleven years.

In lieu of anything else to say or do, Fernando awkwardly patted him on the head.

Currently Reading? - Our Zoo by June Mottershead. It's about the first 20 years or so of my favourite zoo, Chester Zoo, and is very informative. Love the photos. I in general love biographical stuff, I guess I'm nosy. I've read and listened to 'Confess by Rob Halford, 'What Does This Button Do? By Bruce Dickinson' and listened to 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry' and loved all of them

Last Song? Coat of Many Colours by Dolly Parton. I was listening to my Wayne Munson playlist on the way to my new job, some good old dolly made me feel a little more confident

Last Series? The one I watched is ER. The last one I finished was Good Omens S2. I have mixed feelings about it, I loved Gabriel and Muriel but felt weird about ineffable husband was made canon bc of my fear of the fandom dropping the headcanon of them being ace or aroace real fast. I liked them being a semi-canon (they were up to interpretation) and having that security of a qpr being represented and I know people in qpr do kiss but I don't trust tumblr with it at all

Last Movie? Oppenheimer. Loved it. A lot of famous people in. I thought it would be fully linear but it isn't. Love the cinematography in it.

Currently working on? Supposedly a goose lives au where carole gets pregnant and hides it but not too motivated. Also working on a fic based on this post where Carole knows Goose flirts with other people when away and accepts it as how things are, but Charlie makes her realise the double standards when she doesn't. Then, she calls Goose up and gets Slider and knows they've slept together. The fic follows Carole when she goes to her parents, tells her mum, her dad flips and her mum realises she's getting thinner and more low energy.

Good Omens, ~2600 words, WIP

Aziraphale / Crowley, Anathema Device / Newton Pulsifer

To put it plainly, Aziraphale was a professional meddler in human affairs. He’d been at it for several thousand years, and he was quite good at it. He had his specialties, as he imagined most angels did: he supported the arts and sciences, encouraged the accumulation and preservation of knowledge, and he was fascinated, to say the least, with love.

He dabbled, one might say, in the art of matchmaking.

A fan art comic: Afternoon Stroll (Hawkeye comics), in which Clint gets in trouble while literally out for a walk and Kate saves his ass, as usual.

A fanwork for when you're happy: I puzzled over this one for a while because I like a lot of things when I'm happy, but I went with A Year in Toussaint by @astolat (The Witcher), because the setup of "lethally bored semi-retirees go adventuring and fall in love" always fills me with glee, and it's plotty like I usually want when I'm energized.

A fanvid: Space Girl by charmax (multifandom women in scifi) is eternally a delight.

A 100-word drabble: I'll Never Let Go of Your Hand by Corvidology (Person of Interest), a very succinct snapshot of Finch wreaking havoc to rescue John.

A fanmix: fanmix for In Our Line of Work (Inception) - mix by wandrinparakeet (who wins all the bonus points for their pseud), fic by enjambament. A lovely mix for a great story.

A "classic" fanwork: Phoenix Burning by Yahtzee (Buffy), in which Buffy is resurrected 350 years in the future after her fall.

In a deviation from canon, Shade’s only on earth because armageddon is coming someday, and she’s the Almighty’s most trusted strategist. I know this is also veering way off all conventional understanding of the hierarchy of angels, but I think our girl’s a seraph. I mean come on--little miss “think nothing but devotion”? The character who was so over the top in her praise of her boss that a complete third party called the relationship “an altar” to be “sacrificed on”? Seraphim is translated as “the burning ones” and Shade is burning inside and out in any version of her you want to construct. She’s way beyond goodness, she’s about PURITY. She is a slave to the theoretical ultimate perfection of the divine plan. Holy holy holy, bitch!

But...she has a secret.

It’s the same secret she has in canon.

She loves life.

She doesn’t know why and it kind of scares her. She has eternal bliss at her fingertips if she just keeps following all the rules, and she’s great at following all the rules. But at the same time, perfection is simultaneously incredibly hectic and kind of boring. After an eternity of serving at the height of passion, unchanging, unerring, a body gets a bit worn out, and starts to think it might be nice to just, curl up with some brief ephemeral story. Something a bit less than perfect, a bit less than eternal--just to see what it was like. And fortunately the divine, in her unerring wisdom, was just on time to tell one, which started, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

And so she goes to earth, and she’s just barely constrained in a quite handsome--entirely bespoke!--human body, whose eyes she only occasionally lights up with white flame, and promptly occupies herself with performing understated miracles of toy repair for random children, dressing like the pits of fashion, sipping espresso in cafes, skulking around the edges of literary society Orlando-style but in a theoretically specifically benevolent fashion, and justifying everything to herself one way or another.

And yes like...Shade is pretty sensible, she’s not going to get into the exact same nonsense on earth that Aziraphale did, but if you really think she’s not going to get into any nonsense at all then I feel really bad for you because clearly you’ve never met...wlw in general

She’s kind--never indulgent, but kind--and polite, and nobody really minds her above or below, because she’s very careful to maintain her Purity by never questioning anything or really putting anything in place besides that which she’s been told to. One of her main justifications for everything she’s been getting up to is to assume that if the Almighty didn’t want her to do it, she wouldn’t be able to, because she certainly doesn’t have free will...does she?

Shade is a pseudonym she took on to represent the humility of her human side, by the way, signifying its total inferiority to the radiance of God. I don’t know what God calls her when she’s a blinding, burning figure at the side of the great throne. Perhaps it’s Lux.

Now. Bolt. You may have been asking yourself, “How are you gonna cast the sweet, soft, motherly team healer as the demon in this? Even Crowley has it in him to be a bit of a curmudgeon sometimes and Bolt just doesn’t” and that is true.

But I have this to say:

Hell hath no fury like a tenderhearted gay disaster scorned.

Okay, it’s not all, like, completely personal. The majority of the soul reaping that Bolt accomplishes doesn’t require her to do anything besides exist. Because she’s a sweet, pretty, competent woman who listens, and she’s also the biggest lesbian in the world, and her numbers look fine back at home office because men are just like that. She doesn’t have to tempt anybody she’s literally just There

But sometimes, with the ladies, it’s more, and sometimes she is there for an extended period, and sometimes she feels something beyond pragmatic compassion and that something quickly turns to heartbreak. Because she will never not be a demon, and humans will never lack the ability to redeem themselves. With them she’s never more than a temptation, a distraction, a stumble on the straight and narrow--never chased, never cherished, never allowed to grow old beside. They abandon her, they hurt her, just like God did, and they never regret it, because it was the right thing to do. So, you know, every once in a while, when it’s really too much to take, when she really has to do something for once, to hell with them.

The thing is that in vol. 1 Bolt certainly feels enormous degrees of love, but she doesn’t really have a moral code beyond “make the people around me happy so that they’ll like me and pay attention to me.” If she felt underappreciated in heaven, would she run to Lucifer’s side knowing she would be praised and made to feel special there? Abso-HECKING-lutely.

Of course, it takes more than just her feelings to make her fall. As with canon Bolt, she falls FOR someone.

Who does she fall for, in this universe?

Ready for this?

Eve.

Oh, it wasn’t entirely selfish. She certainly THOUGHT about the unfairness, the way God set them up for the Fall. And yes hell sent her to make it happen, so she can certainly claim to have just been doing her job. BUT…

She honestly might not have done it the way she did it, if she hadn’t thought, just a tiny bit, just way down deep where she could almost ignore it, “Maybe, if they could choose, one of them might choose me.”

Down the road, one of her few real resume builders downstairs is inventing the spinal block epidural--which REDUCES human suffering, but how are they scoring this thing anyhow?--as a middle finger to heaven and an apology to her first crush

+Bolt grumbling+ “‘In pain you will bring forth children’ ASSHOLE it wasn’t her fault!”

Also putting her in the actual plot rather than just the universe of Good Omens simplifies things nicely, the nuns aren’t needed anymore at all. Boltie will be the first to tell you that without her Systems and her assistants, she’s perfectly capable of misplacing a baby on her own.

I just want to mention here that she dresses like the exact midpoint between Jackie O and Marilyn Monroe with a slightly more infernal color scheme and her sunglasses are those red plastic heart kind

Also, because I do the same shit in every AU, she has the exact relationship Crowley has with Queen with, GUESS!!, Dolly Parton

I definitely think one of the most interesting things about this (it’s one of the things I think is most interesting about canon Good Omens too although they never go a l l the way down this road) is that Shade quietly suspects that Bolt is better at being Good than her. Oh sure she loves all God’s creatures but Boltie can get them to love her back. It seems that, unless someone has hurt her personally, one of her main motivations for pushing back against heaven IS compassion

Bolt for her part feels immense guilt about the fact that the only reason she EVEN lets this crap happen anymore is out of bitterness. She hears heaven offers humans unconditional love, even now that they have free will. Where was that deal when she wanted free will, huh?

From that setup on out, you don’t REALLY have to change anything--about EITHER source text! But it’s kind of fun to customize certain stuff for them

I feel like in that scene where they’re drinking in the bookshop they’d get into an exchange that’s like

Bolt, sitting with her legs slung over the arm of a chair, her pantyhose all bunched around her ankles, her high heels in one hand and a glass of red in the other: And that’s the other thing, if we go back they’re not gonna let us be cute anymore

Shade, sitting at her desk with her tie loose and her collar open beside a half-empty bottle of very nice whiskey (I told you the aesthetics were reversed): My goodness Boltie that’s really what you’re on about at a time like this

Bolt: Well take a second to appreciate what you’ve got down here angel, we look fine as all get out! If they send us back I’m gonna probably be back to bein’ a snake for all eternity and you’re gonna have to be a, a flaming wheel or some shit. You know you’re not gonna be able to get made-to-measure for THAT

Shade: …Damn, you’re right

Is this a good time to mention that in my head, Shade sounds decidedly English and Bolt sounds like she’s from Cleveland

Except also I really want Shade to carry Boltie across consecrated ground like in that one post

Playlist meme

I can't copy the proper wording for some reason, but @inappropriatefangirlneeds tagged me in a 'list 10 shuffled songs from your playlist' thing so here goes!

'I Want To Break Free' by Queen. Appropriate since I'm watching Good Omens :)

'Samsom' by Regina Spektor. Dang that hasn't come up in a while. Appeals to my love of angsty romance ('I loved you first' line currently making me think of Ed Nygma...)

'White Blank Page' by Mumford & Sons. Continuing the angsty theme :p (this is simply 100% a nygmobblepot song for me now though, no other ship has fit it near as well!)

'White Rabbit' by Jefferson Aeroplane. K, so, listen, as anyone who's followed mine a while prob knows, I don't really 'do' music, it's just not my thing. So I collect songs.... pretty much SOLELY as a result of fandom interest, with only a few exceptions. Either cos I heard a song a felt it fit a character/ship, or cos a song was in a show/episode and I liked it. This one is purely down to Gotham, cos I felt it fit the atmosphere of the show. Much of my playlist is still Gotham themed/inspired rn

'If That's What it Takes' by Celine Dion. Celine is one of the exceptions to the 'inspired by fandom' rule. Mum liked her. I developed a liking via osmosis (though I did make a Farscape music video to this song back in the day)

'Love Walked In' by Dianah Washington. Another exception. Dianah was the soundtrack of my childhood cos she was mum's favourite :)

'9-5' by Dolly Parton. I put a bunch of Dolly on recently in an attempt to make my playlist less fandom-y. Idk. I heard one of her songs somewhere and figured why not :p

'I Get a Kick Out of You' by Frank Sinatra. Another of mum's favs. Another attempt to de-fandom the playlist (completely backfired - for some reason I ALWAYS think of Lucius Fox when I hear Frankie now... idek, it just.... feels like his style?? I imagine Eddie often trying to get him to join in karaoke and he always declines, until one day he has to sing for plot reasons and he busts out one of Frankie's, in perfect velvety jazz voice, and everyone is speechless.... if Gotham were to ever do one of those noir-style AU episodes that genre tv often does - eg. Smallville had one literally called 'Noir' - I 1000% imagine Foxy as lead singer in the smoky bar scene.... at the Iceberg ofc.... Eddie would be a naive PI investigating Penguin after Femme Fatale Lee hired him.... Babs would be sultry singer/dancer/owner of rival club Sirens... Ozzie ofc would be the seductive, smoking gangster business man who corrupts already morally grey Eddie to the dark side... except it turns out Lee was using him all along.... Foxy is really working undercover for the GCPD.... liSteN SHUT UP I think about this EVERY DAMN TIME Sinatra plays rn I don't make the rules!!)

'There's Always Something There to Remind Me' by The Four Seasons. This one was spn inspired. Details would be tedious so I'll spare you!

you said you wanted some asks, so here’s another snippet from my good omens au !! there is going to be multiple pairings in this story aside from fernando and lance, so here’s one focusing on a different one:

“Out, harlot,” Sergeant Räikkönen grumbled, without looking up from his newspapers. He sported his trademark scowl as he spoke, but, Esteban noted, as usual, there was no true heat behind the words.

Master Vettel only smiled in response. It wasn’t a Thursday, so he was wearing normal clothes (or at least as normal as his outfits ever were), but he still sported his usual shimmery lipgloss and sparkles around his eyes. Combined with his long blond curls, Esteban thought, the sparkles made him look a bit like a cherub… which was more than a little ironic considering what he did to earn money besides his work as a medium.

(It was also ironic because, despite the comparison with Master Vettel, Esteban did not actually believe that angels existed, and it would be a very short period of time until he was proven dead wrong.)

“Awfully rude thing to say to someone who’s bringing you lunch, Mr. Räikkönen,” Master Vettel said cheerfully. He set one of the trays down on the sergeant’s desk, before moving to deposit the other one in front of Esteban. “It’s just some chicken sandwiches and crisps. I hope you don’t mind whole grain bread, dear-” This part was addressed to Esteban. “-I do normally have white, too, but I haven’t had time to go grocery shopping this week.”
