22. What’s the most complicated doll/doll piece you’ve made?

This is a tricky one that can have about five answers. XD So I'm gonna give you a top five, with photos!

First is the most recent of the bunch. This is Elara Roux, she was for an Autumn Court collab. This doll's dress is one of the most elaborate garments I've crafted (and here I am wanting to sew it again for a Christmas tree doll, send help ^^''''). She's one of the hardest dolls to get to stand properly between the poofy dress not playing well with stands and the antlers adding a bunch of weight. I have to say, I'm very proud of her antlers, they were difficult to sculpt but a lot of fun, and proof that I'm getting better at polymer clay. She's also my first doll with vitiligo, which was a fun challenge to take on. I love her, so so much. She's difficult to photograph, but we're learning.

Dina the Dryad was a lot. She has a bunch of body sculpting and painting, a new arm and hand, and during her project, the humidity was hurting my sealant so much. Her face went through a couple iterations before I could fix it.

Kendra is one you don't hear me talk about much. I was in hell trying to make the resin work. I mixed up too much pigment (and the wrong pigment, seriously don't use alcohol inks with UV resin, bad idea) and it wouldn't cure properly, so her gems and the ball details on her lower half were difficult. She's also my only doll with alcohol inks coloring the skin, which I like the look of, but it was very messy. XD I love her face so much though, the lotus details on her eyes are something I need to give to another doll.

Norman is the most unconventional doll I've made. He involved full body sculpting and painting, additional sculpted pieces for his speaker and shoulder reel, a head made out of craft foam and a hinge joint so it can open to hold the candle light, wires and chords, aaaahhh, he's a lot. XD Attaching the projector to the doll's head was also a challenge. Honorary mention to Belphene, the doll with the red dress and horns, she's also complicated with those horns and having to draft her clothing pattern for myself. But I have one more pick that's not her.

It probably surprises no one that Auran is one of the most complicated dolls of my collection. XD For starters, he's one of my few hybrid dolls. His parts consist of an Invisi Billy head on an Obitsu male body (yes I ordered a special body for him, it was VERY IMPORTANT), and I had to modify the nose with apoxie sculpt to fit his design. His head used to be blue, and painting it to be smooth and have a matching skintone to the body was tough. My dad actually stepped in on this one, we needed to change out the neck peg for a different sized one so the head would stay on. His hair was redone a couple times, as were his clothes. His resin gem on the collar took multiple attempts before I could call it good, and the shoes were a nightmare even though I used a My Scene shoe as the base. I'm super proud of his epaulets, they're polymer clay shaped and glossed to look like turtles, which is caramel with pecans in it and chocolate on the bottom and top. It's one of my favorite things that Mom makes around Christmas time, so naturally he had to have them. He's one of those dolls that I put so much into, and I'm glad I did, but I needed a long break when he was done because it was so taxing. XD Worth it.

24. Do you have headcanons about your dolls?

Oh I have so many headcanons about my dolls! Who gets along, which ones like being next to each other, the things they might talk about while I'm away, there's a lot to think about.

These two sets surprised me a lot. I made Gail and Delilah separate from each other, but during the time that I was moving, I had to pack up all of my dolls so I could carry them over. These were the two I kept out during that time, and then I photographed them together, since Delilah is one of my favorites, and Gail was recent that summer, and they're both pink and delightful. I think the two of them are long distance girlfriends in my Equinox story, with Gail hailing from the spring kingdom as an assistant to the royals there, and Delilah as a pastry fairy that lives in the central kingdom. They send letters, and maybe someday they'll get to live together. They certainly do on my shelf, these two are rarely seen apart, I never want to put them away.

Marnie and Valencia are a similar story. I made these two beverage witches for the first collaboration I ever hosted, and somewhere in there, they ended up as girlfriends. XD Marnie is the studious bookworm that's always working hard while at the cafe, whereas Valencia is very chill and embraces the vibes of the beach. There's something charming in how opposites attract.

Hmm I don't know that ones hard for me ^^ is it cheating to say I really like people who are just authentic? I prefer people who are just honest even if that means being not so kind

are you typically more attracted to people opposite of you or similar to you? or do you prefer a healthy balance of both?

I definitely prefer a healthy balance ^^ though I am a sucker for opposites I think I'd need to have some similarities!

what is and is not considered cheating according to your standards?

I think if you are thinking about another person in any sort of romantic/sexual way then that would be cheating to me

No, I don't think it's weird at all. 😊Sorry it took me so long to answer your ask by the way.

But yeah, I think because dolls look like people, it's easier to think of them as people. So it honestly makes more sense to me why you would give your dolls people backstories. Of course, there's no right or wrong way to imagine things. :)

The idea for thinking of Jackson and his friends as dolls actually came after I watched this video on TikTok about how the creator of Pidgin Doll talked about the evolution of his own doll's character. Basically, Pidgin started as a human character, but then he started thinking of her as a doll living in a world larger than her. And for some reason, that idea of a fully sentient tiny person living in a world made for giants absolutely captivated me.

When I started this blog, I wanted Jackson to seem as lifelike as possible. Like he was his own person living his own life and I was just a passive observer in it. Because in a way, that's how he is in my head. A tiny companion who explores the world along with me. :)

2. Do you prefer making original characters or characters from your favorite media?

I like both for different reasons! There is something incredibly rewarding about recreating a character I love, but I really love doing character design, and original characters give me a lot more freedom to do that with. That's a big part of why customs appeal to me, I get to make my original characters in a way I can hold them in my hands. XD Also they're a lot easier to adapt on the fly. If something's not working, no one can tell me I'm wrong or not "canon accurate" if I change directions.

6. Which doll sculpt has been your favorite to work with?

Ooooooh, oh that's HARD. In general, I prefer dolls that have slightly more defined molding/more room for the eyes since I struggle to get the eyes even. But favorite sculpt? It's a tie between Ginger Breadhouse from Ever After High and Draculaura from Monster High Generation 3. The G3 MH dolls have sculpting that meshes really well with how I like to do dolls, and I really want to repaint another one! Drac was such a smooth and natural fit for my style, and I couldn't be happier with how that custom came out.

So what relationships do they all have? Any friends, enemies, love interests? How do they get along with you?

Good first question Anon! 💖 I guess the easiest way for me to answer is with a list. This post is going to be very long, so I split it into two parts.

Part 1: How do all the dolls get along with each other

Jackson, Frankie, and Holt are in a romantic polyamorous vee (that means Frankie dates both Jackson and Holt, but Jackson and Holt don't date each other). The three of them have been basically inseparable ever since Frankie came home. At home, they're always together. When going out, sometimes I take Jackson by himself but a lot of the time I also take all three. On very rare occasions I used to take only Jackson and Frankie out, but then I stopped doing that because I can feel Holt getting upset (Holt doesn't like being excluded, and at one point Jackson and Frankie even were like "either all of us go or none of us do"). So yeah, the three of them are a trio and they love each other very much. 💛💙❤

Neighthan and Garrott recently started dating. Neighthan definitely had a crush on Garrott first, basically since Garrott came out of the box. But Neighthan didn't want to pursue anything because he knew Garrott was still recovering from losing Rochelle. He figured that Jester would eventually find Garrott another Rochelle and that they would be together. However, as Garrott spent more time with Neighthan of his own accord, Garrott realized that he liked Neighthan too. And after some encouragement from Twyla, Garrott asked Neighthan out to their first date. Navigating their relationship is something very new to them. Neighthan has never really been in a relationship before, Garrott has never dated anyone aside from Rochelle, and Garrott has never dated a man before. But at least for right now, things are going well for them.

G3 Draculaura and Lagoona are girlfriends and have been dating since around December-January-ish. They were crushing on each other before then, but were nervous about dating since they didn't want to risk breaking up their friend group if things went south. Also, I wanna add that my G3 Drac is a lesbian (since that's my headcanon for her TV show counterpart as of today)

G3 Clawdeen and G3 Cleo definitely have feelings for each other, they're not dating just yet. Reason is because Cleo also has a crush on Deuce and isn't sure how she wants to navigate her feelings for both of them. Of course, they could always try being in a polyamorous relationship, but that's new territory for Cleo and she isn't sure if that's what she wants yet.

I don't get to show it much, but Neighthan and Frankie are ride-or-die besties. They spend a lot of time together chatting, exploring the house, etc. Neighthan also finds Frankie to be a very comforting figure he can confide in. Of course Frankie does the same whenever they have worries, they both have each other's backs. But tbh Frankie's life has always been pretty good so most of the time, when they're the one talking, it's just rambling about their day or whatever special interest has captured their attention at the moment.

Oddly enough, Heath is probably the most social out of my dolls. Of course he's close with his cousins, Jackson and Holt. But also he's close friends with Deuce, G3 Draculaura, and Casta Fierce. He's also recently started hitting it off with Alistair Wonderland.

Of course all the G3 Beasties (Frankie, G3 Drac, G3 Clawdeen, Lagoona, Cleo, and Deuce) are all still beasties. ⚡🦇🐺🐠💎🐍

Of course, G1 Draculaura and G1 Clawdeen are besties as well, just like their webisode/movie counterparts. Ever since Clawdeen came home they've been inseparable.

Heath, Deuce, and Jackson/Holt make up what I call the Bro Squad. Also Heath and Jackson/Holt take turns pet-sitting Perseus.

Twyla and Garrott have become pretty close friends. Since they're both more solitary monsters, they like doing solitary activities within the same space (drawing for Garrott, reading for Twyla) and just enjoy each other's company. Twyla also helped Garrott work out his feelings for Neighthan, so there's that too.

Twyla, Jackson, and Alistair are part of their own little book club together.

Frankie finds Alistair interesting. They like to listen to all of Alistair's grand stories of adventure with his previous human. Alistair's just happy to have a captivated audience. Whenever Alistair decides to tell stories, Heath and Twyla usually come listen too.

Since he is the only other doll that speaks Spanish (having originally come from a Spanish speaking household), Alistair and Lagoona have become buddies. They enjoy gossipping together in Spanish and they also get together to watch telenovelas.

Even though they've been getting along a lot better now, Jackson and Holt still have some conflicts with each other. Mainly because Holt's jealous of the sheer amount of favoritism I express towards Jackson. That said, Holt is what I call "the people's favorite" (ie, the one that everyone says is the coolest when they see my collection) and tends to get more time with Frankie Fine while Jackson is out, so it kinda evens out that way.

G1 Draculaura and G1 Clawdeen really don't like Heath, mainly because they find him annoying. :(

Is it me or does your Audrey look actually beautiful than the LB series Audrey ?

I did a lot to make her less weird lol. Like, in canon her bob doesn't actually touch her head in the back which makes it look like she's bald and wearing a wig, so I turned it a bit more into a bob with an undercut:

I'll put mine side by side to the reference I used.

And in her closeup without her sunglasses is where a lot of her problems are - the eyelashes that don't go to the waterline OR the entire lash line, the weird dead look in her eyes, the eyebrow that's all one thickness like a bad tattoo...so I tried to do something with that.

In fairness, these things inherently just look better in black and white than on a 3D model.

I also forgot that cis womanhood is defined in large part thru transmisogyny: the fear of being clocky, constant affirmation by distancing from the tranny-object except when it's hot to have a bit of a jawline now, palatability as opposition to the monstrosity of being the shemale. I guess cis women are transfeminine too!

let's remember, while we're at it, that transmisogyny is the spectre that haunts the subject of the cis man. the gendered border policing lest one take a step too close to sissification, the prohibition on behaviour that could threaten to make him a girl—oh! cis men are transfeminine too!
