Random funny note, because I don't even think I make attempts to be particularly butch and I'm certainly not taken for a guy because my boobs are, sadly, enormous. I have long hair (a pretty long ponytail with undercut, to be exact) and, well, huge boobs.
And yet one reaction of some of my new colleagues was a friendly but kind of surprised. "So you're married... To... To a man?"
And I think that's hilarious.

« Right, baby,I’m off »
Your husband kissed the top of your head, one hand to the back of your head to help him push it towards him.
« Mwah » He says with a wink as he releases you from the kiss « I love you. I will be back for dinner »
You walk with him to the door, like you do every morning, and wave him off. As usual, he stops about halfway down the driveway to wave and blow another kiss at you, before he gets into the truck and drives off.
You hate this bit. You have been married to Jake for thirteen years, after being engaged for two years. You had spent a lot of time together and maybe that was why you had to keep yourself from shedding a tear whenever he left.
Part of you thought that was good, because it means you love him, but you’ve heard your family whisper things behind your back. Codependent. Controlled.  Wasted potential. They had been furious when you had decided to become a housewife but, they had allowed you to believe for all of two months, they were supportive. Part of you understood why your parents were angry ; they had killed themselves working hard jobs to pay for private education and a damn good university, they had invested in your education in the hopes that you would have a career. But hearing them call you a Waste of Potential had been a hit to your pride, and a bullet straight to the heart. But you had overheard the worst last christmas, it had sent you crying to your room, abandoning your mother with the turkey.
« What is the fucking point of it anyway ? They don’t even have children »
Well, it wasn’t like they knew. You hadn’t advertised that you and Jake had been trying for the better part of ten years, but it just wasn’t happening. Doctor’s visit after doctor’s visit told you everything was fine and sometimes it just takes time. But after ten years of time, anything to do with babies just started to hurt. Walking through San Diego and reading in a park had been your favourite thing, but now the holidays had started children were running about, and going out had become a minefield for you.
You had isolated yourself very effectively, only going out when Jake was coming too. Which, with his schedule, meant never. So, your days were usually spent doing chores. Today was no different.
After Jake left, you busied yourself with the laundry, shoving clothes into the machine till it was full to the brim. Then came the hoovering, the mopping, cleaning out the pet food containers. Soon enough it was lunchtime and then, your daily dose of pain : A pregnancy test. You had done so many it had become its own category in the household budget. Yet, even though you knew what the test would say, you would wolf down your lunch to get to it faster. And every time, before you saw the negative result, you would feel a little pang of hope that maybe this time there might be a miracle.
You inhaled the microwaved leftovers and drank half a litre of water before taking the test, then so well-versed in doing this, you didn’t set a timer and just mulled about for fifteen minutes until you instinctively knew time was up.
Anticipation was making you see double, you were sure of it. You sat down on the toilet lid and took a few deep breaths. A prayer later you looked at the test again. You took out your phone, almost unlocking it to tell Jake but you didn’t. He was working, you would tell him later. You looked at your lock screen.
Thursday 28th of July, quarter past one pm, you were pregnant.

Jake hated leaving you in the morning. He knew you would just stay home and clean. He liked having a clean home, sure, but he liked having a happy wife too. He knew you had stopped reading recently, and watching films was a no-go too, just in case. You were taking things hard, and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t just as affected by it as you but showing you how horrible he felt towards it would just make it worse.
He pulled into the parking lot inside of the base and steadied his breathing a little. Okay, he could do this. He checked how he looked in the reflection of the rearview mirror and then got out of the car.
He could see the rest of the team gathered by the door on the far end. Phoenix's sister had had a baby. It had been the only subject of conversation for roughly two weeks and by the way she was parading her phone around the group, today she had pictures. Jake steeled himself for what was to come, but Phoenix didn't bother him and he was thankful for it.
Their phones rang with a mass text from Mav:
"Beach, 8.am. Meet at Hard Deck"
"We could carpool?" Bob had suggested. They had all folded themselves into Rooster's bronco and Phoenix's fiat. Luckily, the bar wasn't too far.
"I hope you all slept well, because this one isn't going to be easy. Today we're working on your weakest ability: teamwork. Dogfight football, offence and defence at the same time." Mav had explained, standing in front of the bar on the wooden steps like Ceasar addressing his people.
The prospect of football, regardless of rule changes, was making him happy. He played football during highschool, it was his escape then and it still was now, whenever he got the chance to get together with buddies that is.
They got out of their shirts and Jake wished Mav had thought to ask them to bring swim trunks. But he doubted Mav had actually planned this. Mav was a great pilot but he wasn't even close to being a good planner.
"Didn't know you had a tatoo" Phoenix said as the game started and it took him a second to realise she had been talking to him. He had had the tatoo for so long he had almost forgotten about it. The only time he was acutely aware of it was when he was away, his hand seeming to hover over it subconsciously almost at all times.
"What does it say?" Phoenix asked, it distracted him enough for Rooster to tackle him to the floor. She winced at the noise of his back hitting the golden sand and knocking the air out of his lungs.
"Y/n" He replied, using her outstretched hand to stand back up.
"Who's that?"
"My wife"
"Holy shit you're married?!" Payback shouted before Phoenix had the chance to. Everyone turned their heads. He didn't know why this bothered him so much.
Well, he knew. He knew where this would go, everyone always asked the same questions:
"How long have you been married?"
"What does your wife do for a living?"
"So, when are you going to have kids?"
He wasn't ashamed of the life he had built with you. On the contrary, he loved everything about it. He loved cooking together on date nights, he loved watching crappy romcoms, he loved getting married at 20 years old and knowing he had a lifetime ahead of him to spend with you. But he felt so protective over you. He knew how much you were struggling and how unsupportive your family was. And he just wanted to keep you safe, even if you weren't there to hear those questions.
"Uhh, yeah" he answered
"When did that happen?" Coyote asked
"A while ago?"
"Is she like a pilot or something?"
"No, just… civilian"
"Oh nice, you got kids we don't know about too, or just a girl?" Rooster joked.
While you isolated yourself to deal with the grief, Jake had crafted the perfect smokescreen to hide his pain. To anyone but you and your families, he hated children. Eventually, people stopped showing baby pictures, stopped talking about children, and stopped asking him about when he was thinking about settling down.
He tensed up.
The game ended with his team on top, they walked to the bar's back porch, where Penny was waiting with drinks. Mav asked him to stay behind.
"You alright kid? You looked pretty tense earlier"
"I just don't like --" He tried to say but Mav cut him off.
"No" it was a assertive voice, telling Jake he knew exactly what kind of excuse he was going to use.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay" he sighed
Jake wondered if Mav knew what it felt like. The man didn't have any children of his own, but with the way he was treating them all there was no denying the man had a very paternal streak about him. Maybe children just hadn't happened for him. The voice at the back of Jake's head whispered that maybe that's why Mav was single. Sometimes, he could feel the strain this desperate need for a baby was putting on his own mariage but Jake pushed any thought of this out of his mind before the urge to run back to his car and drive home to hug you became too strong.
You were agonising over your decision. He was your husband, he should know. But then again, there were so many cute ways to announce it to him. No, he deserved to know.
You picked up your phone and called him. It went straight to voicemail. You sent him a text to call you back as soon as, and you paced again.
The cleaning had gone straight out of the window the second you found out. Your broom laying discarded against the kitchen wall, your plate still on the table, you had done nothing since lunch.
But, the more you thought about telling him, and the more you grew aware that you were actually pregnant, the more nauseous you felt. It was almost dinner time, Jake would be home soon, you needed to figure something out. You needed to -- you ran to the bathroom and just made it in the doorway before you vomited straight into the empty mop bucket. Once started, it was impossible to stop the urgent need to be sick. Luckily, or not, you hadn't eaten much and soon vomit was replaced with dry retching.
"I know the feeling" Mav had cornered him by the car. Jake looked at him, debating whether or not to pretend he didn't know what he was talking about. But it would be cruel. Clearly Mav was desperate for someone to talk to.
"It's so isolating" He confirmed
"Yeah" Jake let out a sad chuckle "I try to keep it together for her. I don't do a very good job, I think."
"I'm sure she appreciates it, but if it's weighing on you, you need to tell her."
Jake felt a question on his tongue but he stayed quiet. It seemed like Mav was talking from experience.
"Maybe I would still have Charley if I had told her" The older man mumbled
"But you wouldn't have Penny" Jake said
"No. You're right" he sighed, with a sad smile on his face "but I might have had kids"
"You got Bradshaw"
"Hmm and what a great job I did"
He wanted to say something to comfort him but the words he had planned came out as something completely different
"What if I'm not ready when she does get pregnant, you know?"
"I don't think you will be, I don't think anyone is ever ready"
"Yeah but we have been trying for ten years, what if we have a child and I fuck things up?"
Maverick hugged him. His embrace bone-crushing and comforting. Eventually he let go, and Jake drove home.
He turned his keys and the door and went looking for you. The cleaning supplies discarded in every room worried him. Jake was about to shout out your name when he caught a glimpse of you kneeling over the toilet bowl. Your eyes were closed, your cheek resting against the toilet seat.
"Baby, are you okay?"
He pet your head, trying to feel for a temperature. You were okay, clammy with cold sweat, but okay. Your eyes fluttered open and before he could say anything you retched into the toilet bowl again.
"Did you eat anything wrong? Do you want me to call a doctor or an am--" he lost the rest of his sentence as his eyes rested on your hand. Or rather, what you were holding.
He removed it from your grasp and looked at the test.
Was he seeing double?
He shook the test. No. He wasn't seeing double, you were pregnant. They had waited ten years for this.
All of his previous fears flooded his mind, but as he gazed into your eyes right then, Jake felt on top of the world. He felt that with you he could do anything.
When it came time to tell others, Jake called Maverick first.

As a teacher, I've been noticing how easy it is for adults to pathologize kids imperfect behaviours. A kid is toying with their things instead of listening to you? ADHD. A kid is making writing mistakes? Dyslexic. A kid doesn't understand what they read the first time? Someone will think of a myriad of disabilities that will explain that away.
Don't get me wrong, these are all very real things that affect children and adults alike, but I find it mind-blowing that many of my colleagues will diagnose all sorts of syndromes without any evidence, tests, professional opinion or even thinking of other possibilities before.
Today, a girl I was teaching had trouble understanding a very simple exercise. I asked her to relax, take her time and try to read it again. If she still had trouble with it, she should ask for my help, but she needed to try first. Unsurprisingly, she was actually able to understand and solve it on her own. A lot of kids are not actually used to working and reading on their own, or are usually afraid of making mistakes and put pressure on themselves, which makes them freeze.
Sometimes kids are just bored and distracted. Sometimes it's on you as a teacher to engage better with them, or to make them work when they'd rather not. Sometimes kids have no reading comprehension because they've had very little to virtually no practice at all. Sometimes kids don't know how to write because they don't read and haven't been properly taught.
Many adults, both parents and teachers, will tell me a kid straight up cannot do x y z because of a perceived, undiagnosed disability. Even if the kid is disabled, I find it actually rare that a kid cannot do something. It can be harder for them than for others, sure. But most of the time what they need is practice, patience and to try other ways of learning it.
Of course some kids have ADHD, but I'm getting kind of tired of hearing "this kid probably has ADHD" as an all-encompassing excuse for why you're not getting to them, you're not teaching them properly, or you are lowering the level and quality of the education they are receiving.

i have an inquiry since you seem like a good parent, have probably also dealt with folks like this, and may have General Thoughts on the matter (no pressure to answer tho!!)
the situation: i was interviewing an older coworker about her thoughts on this educational art program we offer to K-12 students. throughout the interview, she kept repeating that kids today are "lazy" and "don't want to do hands-on art" and if they do participate, they put "zero effort" into it. but mostly she kept repeating how lazy they are.
which just!!!! i know older folks have always complained about younger folks, but it got me so uncomfortable and angry. i tried to explain what my own education was like (rigid with very little art) and how stressed teachers are, but she was very set in her beliefs.
i'm likely not gonna ever encounter this coworker again cause my main job is elsewhere, but i know this won't be the last time i encounter someone calling me and my younger comrades "lazy" (which knowing my own childhood, could be depression. especially with Everything going on). so, yea, wonder if you got thoughts, tools, etc to deal with folks like that
The big thing is to keep cool. You're probably not going to change the mind about "kids are lazy" and istead change the thread of the conversation I would lead with "oh. Well I can see why it can come across like that. But I really think it's more that they are unmotivated and uninspired. I've seen some fantastic art from young people but it's hard to make art if you're uninspired. I know I find any sort of craft hard if I don't have inspiration."
If they keep asserting it's laziness the biggest thing is to keep your cool and kinda shrug and say "well we've all felt unmotivated from time to time but I think the best way to counteract it is by finding things you're passionate about. If we can tap into what makes them enthusiastic they'll have a better reaction."
People like this aren't going to believe the kids aren't being lazy but if you are careful you can twist the conversation to being about what can be done to engage the kids rather then blaming them for not being engaged
But that's just how I would do it. I tend to try to be non-confrontational and just get them think about it a different way as subtly as I can
Also thank you for the kind comments, that really means a lot!

Having been to all 3 types of school - public private home - what's your opinion on all of them?
I went to public school for one year when I was in second grade, so I don't have a whole lot to go off of there. I think I was mostly scared of the new environment compared to my Christian private education. I had this idea in my head that public schools were the place you go to get lied to about God and science. This is probably a more accurate description now than it used to be and I think I have been spared a lot of the challenges beyond that I would have faced had I continued. But based on my experience there in that year, it wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. I learned my reading, writing, rithmetic, and recess, I was able to make some friends eventually and I had a good teacher from what I remember. So it's likely that public schools all have their various bright spots and pitfalls and parents need to carefully investigate all of them.
I went to a private Christian school from kindergarten to seventh grade. Based on the experiences I have heard from public school goers, there isn't really a substantial difference in the approach to education between the two. It's still highly systematized, memorizing facts more than developing skills, but you do get Bible classes and some biblical perspectives on other topics you wouldn't normally get. But honestly, most of my experiences there just kind of blend together. I couldn't really tell you what their theological stances are or how they tried to impart that to the kids.
What really stands out to me from that period was the interaction with my peers. I wasn't ever really the most social kid. I own up to a lot of that. There were also times though when I did try to make friends and it went poorly. However, I think my experience can attest to the fact that putting a bunch of children in one place to teach them, even with a Christian background, does not automatically mean they will socialize well or that they will model Christian principles. Some of the people I knew at that school are still following God today, many are not. And I have heard some horror stories from the current generation going to Christian private schools near me that show evidence that Christ is not being honored by the students of these schools.
I can't say for certain, but I think there is a misconception that if we just teach kids the basics about the Bible and try to shuffle them along the building blocks of education, everything will be fine. Children from kindergarten to 12th grade are morally depraved sinners and they will abuse each other if they are not at the very least discipled in the direction of godliness.
My homeschool years had the most tangible impact on me I think. That was when I really started investing in my walk with God and in understanding what I was learning. Maybe that's just how it is when you reach high school. The dreaded socialization problem is a non-issue. We had a co-op where my brothers played soccer and I was able to join my former school to do drama with a phenomenal teacher. The opportunities for kids to socialize are there, they just need to be guided in how to do it well.
This is the key issue I think. Where your children go to get educated is less important than if the parents are engaged and guiding their kids, not just in how to do the assignments but how to grow as people. Some education environments are more conducive to this than others. It is very unlikely that public schools today are willing to impart your values to your kids. You might find a private school that can cover some of the basics, but there is no guarantee if you are not involved. And your kids can learn from home by plopping them in front of the computer, but if you want them to thrive, you personally have to engage and direct and shepherd their hearts. I had parents that did that for me to the best of their ability and they did it well. There is a reason that the most common form of education for thousands of years has been in the household. That's the way God designed it, for parents to instruct their children in the way they should go.

The authoritarianism stalking Ireland | Denis Russell | The Critic Magazine
The authoritarianism stalking Ireland
A secular clerisy is silencing dissent
ARTILLERY ROW 26 December, 2022
By Denis Russell
“My conscience is captive to the Word of God. Thus I cannot and will not recant, because acting against one’s conscience is neither safe nor sound. Here I stand; I can do no other.”
These are the words attributed to Martin Luther, who in 1521 was excommunicated and outlawed by the authorities for his rejection of the belief that the Roman Catholic Church was the intermediary between God and man. Luther’s Protestant Reformation opened the door, albeit inadvertently, to the emergence of a new belief in the capacity of man to order the world in a rational and enlightened way. Five hundred years later, Luther’s protest resonates again in modern Ireland.
A secondary-school teacher called Enoch Burke recently rejected edicts from the authorities which required him to act against his conscience. In a Church of Ireland school in County Westmeath, he was asked to address a gender-transitioning student by a new name and preferred pronoun (“they”), but he refused. As a result, the school authorities suspended Burke from his job and told him not to come to school. He defied this order and came to work, sitting alone in his classroom, arguing that he had done nothing to warrant his suspension. Burke, in the best traditions of protest, confronted his school head at an anniversary service to highlight what can only be called the institutionalisation of a new doctrine. How ironic that in Ireland, until recently a very Catholic country, another fervent protestant has emerged to reject the irrational beliefs of the new “woke” clerisy.
Buke has been imprisoned in Mountjoy Jail in Dublin
The High Court in Dublin granted the school an injunction banning Burke from the premises — which he also defied. As a result, he has been imprisoned in Mountjoy Jail in Dublin. Burke rejected the facile argument put forward by the High Court and the school authorities, that his crime was ignoring the lawful decision by school authorities to suspend him on full pay until a disciplinary process was concluded, rather than his questioning of the introduction of transgender ideology in school. When an education system requires teachers to contravene not just their conscience, but their rational consciousness, how can they maintain any authority in the classroom? It is a great shame that teenagers were not thought competent to engage with a gender-critical view around what is one of the most highly contentious debates of our times.
Burke might have support amongst ordinary Irish parents, but he is certainly alone when it comes to the mood among the Irish political class. The Irish Times columnist Jennifer O’Connell argued that “no one is asking him to change his beliefs, only his behaviour”, and that the rush to make Burke’s imprisonment a culture war issue by the likes of Jordan Peterson and Piers Morgan was ignoring the facts. O’Connell and others misunderstand the link between belief and action — she might well consider the fact that if women had not behaved very badly 100 years ago, she would likely not have had the vote today. Had James Connolly and the other 1916 rebels not been prepared to act on their beliefs, would Ireland be free today? If people are not allowed to challenge the idea that the Earth is flat, or that a boy is a girl, for fear of being imprisoned for bad behaviour, we may be in for a new era of troubles in Ireland..."
The truth comes out! Ireland is truly fucked in the head. It's not a place fit for women and children. I see now that there's been a lot
of grooming going on in the schools with boys there. It's a sick country. And they can keep their cheap little Rent Boys, disguised as actors.

rant (generic), and poem (ecstatic)
this post is about two things.
the first is a vaguely-alluded-to (that can probably be guessed lol) personal circumstance, ostensibly good, but which fucked up my peace of mind. the second is a teary-hopeful poem i found today. (finding it reinforces the gambler’s addiction of opening twitter: the other 99% of the time, it just destroys my peace of mind.)
anyway. a thing happened at work that would otherwise be a cause of cautious celebration. instead it made my stupid internet-leftist brain literally cry. i appreciate my parents a lot, not only for the world knowledge they share with me, but also for putting up with this stupid creature (me)’s completely irrational behaviour.
aside from the guilt induced by said good news, i am feeling very naive at how disappointed i feel. i am so tired of being wrong and unknowing about the world. (the gradual reduction of this feeling is one of the good things about growing, but it’s not present nearly enough.) really, how am i going to make it if this is the way i react to what is conventionally good news.
it is a tightrope walk between, on the one hand, un-internalising the stupid neoliberal approach that makes systemic problems the “fault” of the individual, and on the other hand, not using this as an excuse to forgo any personal action whatsoever.
i just wanted to record what parents said about finding out and sharing industry details of salaries, and how to support coworkers without engaging in pointless and antagonising gestures towards bosses. this basically boils down to “take no action at the moment”. which sounds hypocritical (and probably is); but i trust parents, so i am going to play the safe option. (goddamnit—this is the first time i actively wish my industry was unionised, instead of passively longing for the Cool Thing).
also: i understand slightly more of (i.e. i don’t understand at all) how corporate industry works. you can’t demand equitable pay because your colleagues get a particular figure? but you can argue that you should get higher pay because of some abstract notion called the “industry standard”? why does the place of education—not the degree, the place—matter while deciding salary? why does previously-earned salary matter? isn’t it more honest to just set up pay scales depending on hours spent and previous work experience??! and apparently asking a colleague their salary isn’t “professional ethics”? which goes against my common-sense understanding and the discourse of left-liberal white-collar twitter—i mean this self-disparagingly and affectionately; see internet leftist above. (insert joke about how humanities students at uni don’t have the Professional Ethics course, because the faculty know we’ll never be in a professional wage-earning job.)
last personal thing: i am trying to climb out of the idpol/“oppression as virtue” trap and stop beating myself up for my bosses seemingly treating me better. it is objectively true that i found things quite shitty when i was a freshie. it is also true that i think they’re treating me better now. it is also true that i have been here for almost two years. it is also true that my starting salary was higher than my colleagues’ current salary. i still find this profoundly unfair and i don’t think that will change. that being said—i would like to stop making this my fault in my head. i can’t be an activist (absolutely no disparagement intended), because i’m too cowardly, or too precarious, or some combination of both. this is not ideal. however—this is much less my fault and much more a Structural™️ fault. i don’t know how to stop blaming myself for this (especially when bosses speak very very rudely to colleagues—they do this to me, but i feel they’re much meaner to them—and when they make passive-aggressive comments to me about Setting An Example by coming on time, implying that i’m the exploitative or lazy one. when of course they have the liberty of coming whenever, leaving whenever, working remotely whenever. sure, they have small kids, but it’s still funny when they expect some kind of moral performativity that they don’t commit to themselves.)
i am 92% sure i will read this in three years (if this blog is still around) and cringe at myself for being so naive and navel-gazing. but this brings me some kind of peace now and i am desperately snatching at it with both hands.
anyway. on to the teary-hopeful thing i wanted to write about.
TIL of Julian Gough and the Minecraft End Poem. (i am not going to make excuses for not knowing pop culture; instead i am going to be grateful that i came across this today, arguably a day when i really needed it.) Gough is releasing this evisceratingly beautiful poem into the public domain, for reasons which will become clear in his very very long (i mean it, he said it’s 10k words) blog post. if you don’t have the time and headspace to read the whole thing, and also if you don’t have a compulsive need to find out what the latest twitter main character drama is about, please just read the poem.
(the fact that it touched probably millions of people around the world before i knew about it is not cause for FOMO or mainstream apathy or whatever cool edgelordy thing is popular now. not to unironically quote the writer’s concept (joke), but i think it has an innate truth of the universe that simply speaks to people, or is what we desperately long to hear.)
the poem is obviously the thing you should read, but here are a couple of things i want to mention:
firstly: this passage from his 10k prologue, which squarely attacked my self-dishonest mindset of “i don’t actually deserve love but of course i want all the love”:
And that night, with the stars blazing above, the universe told me that it wasn’t acceptable for me to give love, but then refuse to receive it. That was just fake humility; another form of arrogance, of ego. I had to allow people to say thank you; I had to accept whatever gifts people might wish to offer in return, because too much charge was building up along that blocked circuit.
and secondly, the honesty with which Gough wrote this. you might finish the piece feeling that he’s not the most responsible human being, or the most capable (outside of his art, which he is probably very skilled at). this is, firstly, a degree of honesty difficult to achieve when writing about oneself; and secondly, oddly reassuring to me that there is someone else (successful, popular even) who seems to have the same absolute lack of understanding How Society Works that i do.
that’s all we have for this show. thank you and good night.

The more time you hang on to buy a headline, the less expensive it is going to be to get a similar activity. Prior to allow your kids to try out a video online game, ensure you know its ranking. Games which have a rating of 18+ tend to be very aggressive. Preventing young kids from taking part in mature video gaming is important. It can make them have poor dreams making their behavior disturbing. Online games can be just a wonderful way to loosen up, or they are utilized to boost grade, as well as your performance potential over a real battle field. Basically, there isn't something a youtube video video game could not train! If you are using them just for fun, physical fitness, learning or simply mingling--start using these suggestions and maximize your encounter!

It’s Not Just Your Imagination…Job Hunting is Getting Worse
Tumblr media
Tired of leaving your financial future in the hands of a company who doesn’t care about you? Looking for a job has become very frustrating. Tired of surviving layoff rounds? If we are heading into a recession, employees are more hesitant to make hiring decisions.
The year 2024 is going to be a time for you to take back control of your financial future. It’s time to learn a new skill, if necessary. You don’t have to go back to college to learn a new skill. There is a wealth of knowledge on the internet. Amazon eBooks, and other digital platforms that sell online digital products teaching ways to do certain things are fantastic ways to educate yourself while you keep your day job.
Sell Your Digital Products On These Platforms
Here are 11 platforms you need to place your digital products.
medium.com
Don’t start a new business until you know you can sustain it. If you want to, you can start a new business while doing such things as DoorDash or Uber just to keep the bills moving along while you work on your business. Those gig economy jobs are very flexible and will allow you to carve out the time needed to start a new business.
Without further ado, let’s jump into 13 small business ideas that are affordable to start but have high potential, as well as the stats to back them up.
Online Publisher
Since 2012, the use of the global internet has increased by 82 percent.
Today, having loyal readers or viewers is invaluable because it’s possible to leverage that trust and authority to develop a business that has customers from the first day.
Platforms such as podcasts, YouTube, a blog, and social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram make it easier now more than ever to build up an audience.
With a loyal audience, it’s possible to monetize through sponsorship deals, affiliate marketing, and advertising. Moving from content creation to providing services such as coaching, product sales or course sales also can be very profitable.
Tumblr media
Between now and 2025, the worldwide content marketing field is predicted to expand by $417 billion.
With increasing advertising prices on platforms such as Facebook and Google, an increasing number of businesses are eyeing organic growth tactics such as social media and SEO to drive traffic. That trend opens up the door to starting up an agency that serves business clientele.
Content marketing performed correctly will substantially increase a brand’s visibility on platforms such as Google, which may assist in driving sales. Microsoft flagged search engine optimization as an important skill for marketing professionals in the next 10 years.
Your content agency may provide a variety of services, from repurposing existing content for various platforms and SEO optimization to assisting businesses in kickstarting podcasts to engage their listeners.
Purchase A Business in Your Area
Many baby boomers are approaching retirement, so local service businesses such as carpet cleaning, plumbing, and HVAC services are now on the market.
Today, the situation is extremely different than it was in the past, when businesses were usually passed down from generation to generation. Many of the offspring of these business owners today are pursuing different occupations than their parents, which leaves the owners of these highly profitable businesses to search for buyers.
While this is not as easy as entering your local HVAC workplace and making an offer, there’s a lot of opportunity out there to the ones willing to perform their due diligence.
Tumblr media
Digital advertising spending in the U.S. exceeded $567 billion in 2022. It is predicted to exceed $835 billion in 2026.
As an increasing number of businesses go online to sell their services and products, the demand for digital marketing experts is exploding. While it’s possible to start in digital marketing as a one-man/woman show, it is also an excellent time to start up an agency.
That is because there are a number of niche skill sets within the industry, which includes running affiliate marketing programs, paid ad management, and social media management.
Here is a list of 7 various areas of specialization within the industry:
Web analytics: Interpreting and reading traffic trends that assist clients in better understanding their website customers and visitors.
Social media marketing: Purchasing micro-targeted advertisement on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Digital advertising: Investing in targeted advertisements on Google and other types of platforms online.
Email marketing: Creating captivating emails that drive action, and then targeting them to the proper individuals.
SEO (search engine optimization): Optimizing content in order for it to perform well on search engines like Google.
Content marketing strategy: Promoting and producing content that assists brands in building their profile.
Sales funnels: Organizing and writing content that turns prospective buyers into paying clients/customers.
App Development and Web Design
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is estimated that a 23 percent rise in demand for web designers from 2019 to 2029 — a pace much greater than the majority of careers.
The massive demand for high-quality app developers and web designers makes this an excellent business idea. What is better is that app development and web design skills are shockingly easy to learn, and individuals are willing to pay big sums for high-quality web development work.
Full sites on open-source platforms such as WordPress may fetch from a few thousand dollars to over $100,000 for corporate clients, with an average rate frequently over $100/hour. Customized websites constructed from scratch may command even more money.
Graphic design is an important component of good web design and a profitable business choice in its own right. Typically, graphic designers begin with rates about $50/hour; however, may make above this with experience. Learning to do outstanding graphic design work may be a great first step to setting up a web design business.
Tumblr media
In 2022, stores on Etsy generated $2.6 billion, up from $ 2.3B in the year 2021.
Etsy is a fave of creative, entrepreneurial-minded types because it is an exceptional way to sell hand-crafted, unique goods without any of the headaches of establishing your own retail shop.
The beauty of this platform is that it comes with a built-in audience of shoppers searching for vintage and handmade products. So, it’s possible to leverage network effects with a quality item your customers adore.
As a store owner on Etsy, you have the job of managing customer service, creating product listings, and shipping the goods yourself. Etsy takes about 8 percent of the sale, but there aren’t any other substantial expenses related to opening a retail store.
Be A Reseller
Imagine reselling as purchasing an asset and then selling it at a higher cost. Your inventory might be anything — from designer clothing to vintage clothing to old video games, rare books, and all things in between.
It’s possible to sell on a variety of platforms, which includes your own website, eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, and Amazon.
The key to running a successful reselling company includes having an information advantage. This means understanding the marketplace for what you are purchasing better than the individual selling the product.
Such a business may start small, but then quickly scale up by purchasing more inventory through spaces such as wholesale markets, in which it’s possible to buy products in bulk.
Service-Based Consulting/Agency Business
Revenue on Upwork (a freelance marketplace) rose 14 percent year-over-year, in Q3 of 2022, which rose to more than $ 1 billion.
The biggest freelance marketplace, Upwork, publishes information in regard to the quickest-growing occupations on the platform. That data displays the highest-paying, most in-demand skills and jobs.
Their current list displays opportunities like:
Video production
Machine Learning
Mobile application skills
Data analytics
Automation specialists
If you are competent in any of those industries, or are willing to take some time to become competent, there is an abundance of highly-paid consulting or freelance work available. One alternative choice to learning a new skill includes finding dependable contractors to perform the work for you.
When you have begun to gain experience and freelance, it’s possible to start a consulting business or agency that specializes in that service. For more repeatable activities, like video production, hiring overseas virtual assistants to perform the work at a reduced price based on the procedures and systems you establish is possible.
Think about combining those skill sets with market trends, like doing video production for creators on TikTok, and it’s possible to quickly run a successful service-based agency.
Tumblr media
People in America spend over $100 billion a year on their furry friends.
In a lot of ways, a dog walking business tends to be more like a side hustle or a job than a business. Because after all, you are earning an income on an hourly basis for offering a service to customers.
However, if you like working with cats, dogs, and other types of animals and have a business/entrepreneurial mindset, applying that business acumen to this line of work can pay.
An excellent place to get started is Rover. Imagine it as the Uber for pets: clients pay good money to arrive at an established time and take their pooch for a walk, in addition to dog/cat sitting.
As you build a reputation and clientele on Rover, you also should think about ways to scale up and then transition from being a freelancer to operating a pet business. This may involve providing other dog/cat owners associated services such as boarding, grooming, and training. Think about starting up other kinds of businesses, like an Etsy store that sells pet supplies.
Event Planner / Wedding Planner
Around 32 percent of couples hire a wedding planner, according to The Knot (a wedding site).
Wedding planning is a highly sought-after home business idea that has huge earning potential.
For the majority of couples, their wedding is one of the most critical days of their life. For better or worse, the increase of social media platforms such as Instagram has made wedding days even more crucial.
Because after all, thousands of photos are captured by both the guests and the professional photographer, and these photos are going to be enshrined online forever. So grooms and brides understandably feel the pressure to get the wedding planning right and make sure everything looks amazing.
On one side, this is a boon for the industry of wedding planning. If you are able to keep everything running on time and are familiar with how to make the big day look fantastic on Instagram, it’s possible to earn a good income for your services.
However, on the flip side, some couples are hesitant to take a risk on a wedding planner who has a limited portfolio or very little experience. Working for a planner in your hometown, even for a short time, might be an excellent way to get some legit experience.
If that isn’t an option, you may have the ability to offer to be of assistance to your family and friends with one specific component of their wedding free of charge, then use that successful execution of that job as a portion of your portfolio.
If you do not like to be around weddings, there also are other opportunities in the business of event planning. Other types of specialties involve conventions, concerts, formal parties, conferences, and corporate events.
Green Cleaning Services
By 2029, the marketplace for green cleaning products is predicted to expand to almost $12 billion.
An increasing number of workplaces are looking for deep cleaning services to completely sanitize their offices. One other trend is that both businesses and consumers are seeking eco-friendly cleaning solutions.
Combine these trends, and you’ll obtain an opportunity in high demand and an abundance of long-term growth possibility.
Tumblr media
About 75 percent of people age 50 and up want to remain in their home while they grow older.
The combination of an ever-aging population and the realization that this group of people want to reside inside their homes for as long as they can means there is huge potential for specializing in elderly care inside the healthcare sector.
Services to offer are:
Home renovations and repairs that enable elderly individuals to remain inside their home longer (that is, making their house wheelchair-friendly)
Mobile beauty services
Non-emergency elderly transport services
Respite care facility
Adult day care facility
Personal care aide and home health agency
Personal Training
Through 2030, according to the BLS, there will be a 19 percent rise in demand for personal trainers.
With more expectations on how we look and a rise in healthcare expenses, more and more people now more than ever are attempting to get into shape. And they’re paying a lot of money for it.
This business is more difficult to scale up than the majority of businesses if you just work with customers one-on-one.

11/23-24/2023
thursday - friday
slow day.
tonight an old friend messaged me on discord, a good old friend not one of the bad ones i have, someone i know from school. we talked about his current career in teaching, and how the students are right now. he said some heartbreaking things, or he i guess was articulating things i was aware of, what anyone feels is so heartbreaking about kids who say they can't read, for instance, when in reality, in my friend's words, never were taught that they do actually know, or can comprehend things, and can interface with parts of the world they felt alienated from, that they can enter into that territory, they have been wholly disabled by people in their past not caring about them, the educational world, parents, everything, you know. even stuff that seems like a solution or escape is just a kind of reaction to not being able, ever, to interact with some things. it makes me think about gamers, i guess, the archetypal gamer, only knowing game music, stories from games, but primarily living in a social soup of memes, pornography, and videogames. this isn't to say anything bad about games themselves but that is a kind of space people head towards because they've been pushed away from everything else it seems like.
but he is well, he has gotten engaged, hugely exciting news. i remember when he met his soon-to-be wife, i asked him to hang out one day, and he said to me, i have to hang out with a girl who loves deftones today, man. and it's been history, at least, i'm basically certain i think, that this is the same woman. i am really happy for him though, i love talking to him, i wish he was out here still.
he will message me tomorrow, too.
anyway, my day was very tiny, i suppose. i spent a lot of today reworking another song, i also wrote a song, somehow, i didn't mean to, i just wanted to mess with new distortion plugins, somehow, i wrote a cc esque thing, i dunno if it'll be on the album, i do quite like it though. and i also wrote new riffs, using these distortions to get something. it's really satisfying sounding. since i'm able to use vst3, there's a lot of really interesting/crazy distortions they seem to be getting out now. very wild to me, i didn't expect them to be like, as good as they are. or not that they'd be bad, just that they wouldn't be different, really.
the song has gotten closer to where i want it but i think there needs to be a re-recording of some vocals, and some parts need re-written lyrics. but after that, i think it'll be in the right spot, roughly at least, a place where mostly i'd just be messing with levels.
but anyway, i am so sleepy. it's 3 am, i need to sleep soon, i also took a rest day today because my body was sore, but tomorrow i am going to really try and work it, i guess.
so,
byebye!!!

Media Information Literacy as Expression of Freedom of Speech.
Tumblr media
Media and information literacy is important for today's learners because it promotes problem-solving approaches and thinking skills such as asking questions and seeking answers, finding information, forming opinions, evaluating sources, and making decisions, fostering successful learners who are effective contributors, confident individuals, and responsible citizens. The media plays a very important role in our society. Without the help of the media, spreading information worldwide will be a lot harder for us. Media help us by improving our society through online interactions. It enables people to interpret and make better judgments as users of media. Being literate in media and information can make a person skilled in making their own messages in their own right. Media and information literacy are considered crucial skills and competencies in today’s society. It equips citizens with the competencies they need to fully benefit from media and information channels and to enjoy fundamental human rights. The purpose of being information and media literate is to engage in a digital society; one needs to be able to use, understand, inquire, create, communicate, and think critically. It is important to have the capacity to effectively access, organize, analyze, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms. Media and information literacy are significant factors in our day-to-day lives. It empowers people to think critically and to express their freedom of speech, thus allowing individuals to access and express their opinions without restrictions. Through the use of media and information literacy, it can help ensure that people have access to diverse and accurate sources of information, and through their own understanding, it can also be a tool for civic responsibility and nation-building. that any individual can become a more engaged and informed citizen. As a media and information literate individual on a personal and professional level, it can help me make decisions based on accurate and credible sources. It can lead me to better decision-making and solving problems. It can also be more effective in communicating and collaborating with other professionals. It can also be an expression of freedom of speech. Because it allows individuals to gain access, analyze, and share information and options. I will ensure that people have access to an accurate source of information and have the right to freedom of speech. The things that I can contribute to the community are helpful, and one example is posting on social media whenever there is an incoming typhoon. Because of that, you can inform others that they must be prepared for that natural phenomenon. But in order to make a post on social media, you should know if it is legit or not because sharing or posting fake news will affect many people. Helping the community by reminding them of the community standards and legal policies of the media platforms is a must. like when they posted something on Facebook, but then their post got rejected or disappeared. I would like to educate them so that they know what they should or shouldn't do when posting something on social media. This would be helpful since there are a lot of people who still don't know those rules and standards when it comes to the world of media, like, for example, your mom or our parents. Of course, they still don't know how they actually work. You can be the voice of the weak in your community, intervene in issues related to the violation of media ethics and slowly spreading fake news, participate in advocacy or movements that aim to protect those media rights and put citizens at risk, and balance using your voice and influence in a smart and innovative way. Our society employs media to transmit information, or, to put it another way, technologies are heavily employed, especially in developing countries like our own, but this is meaningless if they are not used properly. Because of this, we do have a concept known as media and information literacy.

mothers of large families (especially in poor communities) were probably some of the most capable and intelligent people in history and no I'm not even kidding a little bit
I won't pretend like there haven't been more educated people or more skilled and talented people, but in terms of like, groups of people who were consistently capable and should have/were respected and had authority, being a matriarch of a large family (especially if the family was largely still living considering how frequent infant and child mortality was) was quite a feat to achieve
you have to be able to manage a household, so any and all domestic affairs (cleaning, cooking, child rearing, finance, like all social engagement planning and the actual social performance), insane amounts of emotional labor, plus!! play doctor, play carpenter, play field worker, play basket weaver (which is another piece of domestic labor that would probably be sold for money so it's not like they weren't already!!! providing as a worker!!), and basically "play" professions that they weren't allowed to hold because of lack of means and their gender
if you're poor and you have one kid and they get sick, it's going to be hard but you can usually scrape together enough funds/donations to go to the doctor for your one kid who's sick (obviously dependant on the situation, this is a generic hypothetical).
if you have six, seven kids, hell even more! historically families would have like 12, 15 kids to make sure enough lived and were able to work, especially farmers. if you have that many kids, and one of them is sick, you don't go to a doctor, you start taking care of what you can at home. you don't get medicine, you use home remedies and leftovers from previous prescriptions. obviously im not saying like, it's a good idea to forgoe medical treatment or to share medications/save old medications (especially not anti biotics lol), but in the past, when you're poor, you would need to have a much keener sense of illness, of injury, of disease, in order to gauge if you NEED medical treatment bc largely it isn't something you can just go get
and this applies to any profession that they were capable of performing (didn't require apprenticeship or formal education/training to do nonprofessionally), bc you end up learning to do what you can't afford to buy. i bet your parents cut your own hair till you were a certain age. a lot of parents never stop!
this is all to say, I was texting my mom today ab a condition I had just found out I have, and she was able to name it by me just describing it, bc one of my siblings had it when they were little. she said "not officially diagnosed, me diagnosed" and I remembered the millions of times that I had brought up symptoms and she had a clue ab what it was, all the times she had a book for just the right task/craft/research topic. I remember her climbing on ladders and fixing things, painting, laboring in a way that most would consider "men's work" or tradesman work. There is so much that my mom has done because she needed to, for her or for her kids, and so much of that has been forgotten or taken for granted as I've needed less constant support to survive.
Obviously fathers, and poor fathers especially, have had to do and still do similar things. being poor is not a gendered phenomenon. but when culturally you are tied to an entire domestic sphere, when you aren't traditionally (or legally!) allowed to work or become educated, there is a unique aspect to that perspective that includes the expected societal role of women that I find very interesting, and sincerely overlooked

Online classes for kids
Virtual Schooling Made Easier for Kids
If you're a parent or a teacher in today's world, you've likely had to navigate the world of virtual learning. Online classes for kids became more and more common when the pandemic forced schools to shut down. While this shift to virtual learning has been challenging, it also presents a lot of opportunities.
Virtual learning, also known as online learning, is a method of education that utilises digital technology to deliver lessons and coursework to students. Online education can take many different forms, from live video conference sessions to pre-recorded lectures. Virtual learning has been around for a while, but it's become more prevalent than ever with the pandemic.
Tumblr media
One of the main benefits of home schooling in India is that it allows students to learn from anywhere, as long as they have an internet connection. This is especially useful for students who live in remote areas or have mobility issues. However, virtual learning also presents a number of challenges.
What makes online education the new wave of learning
While there are certainly challenges to online classes for kids, there are also a number of benefits. For one, virtual learning allows for a more flexible schedule. Kids can work at their own pace and on their own time, which can be especially helpful for those who have other commitments or learning needs. Additionally, online learning allows for more personalised instruction. Teachers can tailor their lessons to each student's individual needs and provide more one-on-one attention.
Another benefit of home schooling in India is that it can be more affordable than traditional schooling. Online classes for kids often have lower tuition fees and don't require the same expenses as a physical school, such as transportation and textbooks. This can make education more accessible to a wider range of students.
Tips for parents to support virtual learning for their kids
As a parent, you play an important role in supporting your child's virtual learning. One of the most important things you can do is to be present and involved. This means attending virtual parent-teacher conferences, monitoring your child's progress, and providing support and encouragement.
Another way to support your child's virtual learning is to set expectations and boundaries. This might mean establishing a schedule for when your child should be working on schoolwork or setting limits on screen time. Additionally, it's important to be patient and understanding. Virtual learning is a new experience for everyone, and there are bound to be some bumps along the way.
Best Practices for Home Schooling
Home schooling in India has become more common in recent years, especially with the pandemic. If you're considering online learning for your child, there are a number of best practices to keep in mind. First and foremost, it's important to establish a routine and structure for learning. This might mean setting aside specific hours for schoolwork or creating a daily schedule. It's also important to choose a curriculum that aligns with your child's learning needs and interests.
Virtual learning tools and technologies
There are a number of virtual learning tools and technologies that can make online classes for kids more engaging and interactive. Some popular options include Zoom, Google Classroom, and Kahoot. These tools allow for live video conferencing, interactive quizzes, and other collaborative activities.
Additionally, there are a number of educational apps and games available for kids of all ages. These apps can help make learning more fun and engaging, while also reinforcing important concepts.
Why The Class of One
From its very inception, The Class of One has embarked on a visionary quest to redefine the paradigms of traditional learning and establish itself as a pioneering educational institution. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, TCO1 places paramount importance on the meticulous selection of a school that aligns perfectly with a child's educational aspirations. Virtual learning has become more prevalent than ever in today's world. While there are certainly challenges to online classes for kids, there are also a number of benefits. By creating a productive virtual learning environment, supporting your child's learning at home, and using engaging teaching methods, you can help make virtual learning a success. With the right tools and technologies, virtual learning has the potential to revolutionize education and make it more accessible to a wider range of students.
