people hating on the dandelion crayon girl i think miss out on the idea that even collectioner hobbies USED to not be straight capitalism. that yes, some hobbies are just "hoarding stuff", but the hobby itself is around either the rarity of the object or its emotional importance to the collectioners. people went from having collections of things that sure, cost money, but were niche and personally enjoyable to categories of people like stamps or license plates or crayons to mass produced crap like cups or bags or makeup products or action figures. hobbies about collections are normal, but we have become so removed from appreciating the genuine joys of OBJECTS THEMSELVES instead of the rush of buying them, that we just don't even think people should spend this precious endorphin on things that are "useless". it's sad.
