hi yall

today i bring a drawing of dess and asriel

its just them walking down the school hallway

i actually like this drawing a decent amount, but it did take me forever (10 whole hours 😵‍💫😵‍💫)

and while drawing this, i was thinking of the concept of dessriel (dess x asriel)

i think about the ship, or i see art of it or something, and in my head im like 'aww, cute!'. but then i think some more, and i realize that its so odd to ship 2 characters who weve never even seen 😆 so its pretty much a different ship to everyone, cause they dont have designs or personalities, really.

so while i imagine that dess and asriel will be cute, and ill end up liking the ship, its just so weird to think about. its the same feeling i have when i think about the relationship between dess and the mayor, because i just made up both of their personalities.

i dont think im really explaining myself well, but these are just my thoughts lol. im not sure if any part of this comes off as negative, but its not meant to be that way. i think dessriel is cute, and there isnt anything wrong with having your own personalities or designs for characters and having them interact. its just one of those things thats silly to think about 😅

but yeah, thats just my random thoughts. i hope yall like the drawing 😊

Me thinking about even after Dess disappeared and their families grew apart and their friend group more or less split up, Asriel still tried to be a good surrogate older brother for Noelle because 1. Dess would've wanted it and if she comes home she can find Noelle's been taken care of 2. Asriel just loves Noelle. Like. He didn't stop caring about her.

So he takes her out to ice cream every week or so and asks her the normal conversation questions like "How's your day been? What are you learning in school? Read or watch anything good lately? Here's something interesting I learned today." And they always talk and have a nice time but the complete trust and closeness they once shared is gone, both can tell and both hope the other can't. And Asriel always walks her home. And one day when Noelle is entering the gate Asriel takes her hand and tells her, "Noelle, I know everything's different than it used to be but I want you to know that I still love you, and if you ever need anything at all or just need to vent tell me and I'll be there for you." And Noelle just...takes a minute to process what he just said and then tells him she appreciates it. But she knows she isn't going to do it. She's just going to go to Dess's room--nothing changed there, by the way, everything's exactly how it was when she last walked out of it--to watch a horror movie or something else like that on Dess's old laptop and have a good cry. And Asriel goes home to play with Kris and wonders wearily how did he get here, and why is Dess gone, and why does the world have to be so big and scary without her?

since we know that dess owns a guitar and most likely plays it, i like to think that she wrote a few cheesy songs about asriel but only played one or two for him before she disappeared… imagine them hanging out in asriel’s room together, dess strumming her guitar absentmindedly, asriel doing homework, and then her just blurting out that she wanted to sing something for him. of course, he agreed, because he loves anything that she does for him, and she starts singing, a bit shyly, it’s a nice and sweet song and she means every word that she’s saying. and asriel wished he had a recording of it, because as the years pass, he seems to forget the melodies and the words, as much as he wishes he wouldn’t.

Teenage Dess and Asriel at a summer camp their families make them attend every year (it's a church camp because of course it is, have you met their moms?). Azzy still enjoys it, Dess is over the whole thing. Kris and Noelle are also there if you want.

Asriel sat towards the back of the pavilion, in a white plastic folding chair. The very back row, in fact, because that's where Dess wanted to sit, and even if it meant Asriel couldn't see very well, he wasn't going to not sit next to Dess. She had her arms crossed as she chewed bubblegum loudly (the kind of loud one can only achieve through conscious effort), and was looking anywhere except the camp counselors at the front of the pavilion.

"And here at Camp Angel Hearts, we like to always follow the Five Pillars!" The speaker, who was the head of the camp, gestured to a large poster where the word 'Angel' was written vertically. A long strip of white paper extended to the side of each letter, covering up the rest of the poster. "As you can see, the first letters of each pillar spell out 'angel', because while these pillars are important, the Angel is always first in our Hearts."

Dess scoffed and rolled her eyes.

The speaker went on. "Now, to our returning members, can anyone remember what the first pillar is? Shout it out!"

"ADVENTUROUS!" called out a smattering of the younger kids.

"Yes, very good!" The camp head ripped off the paper next to the 'A', to reveal 'Adventurous'. "It's important to be adventurous and try new things! Don't be scared to expand your horizons!"

"This is all so stupid," Dess grumbled.

Asriel nudged her. "Aw, come on. It's not that bad. I know it's cheesy, but it's good for the younger kids, you know?"

"How about the second pillar?" the speaker continued. "Shout it out!"

"NICE!" came the response.

"I guess." Dess didn't look convinced. "But they could at least take the stupid 'Angel' bullshit out."

"D-Dess!" Asriel hissed under his breath. "You can't say that here! We'll get in trouble…"

At the podium, the speaker clapped and ripped off the next piece of paper. "That's right! It's always important to be nice to your fellow campers!"

"I don't even care any more," Dess said. "I told Mom I didn't want to come here any more. I'm sick of all this fucking Church of the Angel propaganda."

"Dess..."

She only smirked. "Like, people can practice whatever religion they want, but keep it to the bedroom, you know? Don't shove that stuff down my throat!"

Asriel snickered despite himself. "Okay, well—"

"Keep it going now!" called the camp head. "What's the third pillar, everyone?"

"GENEROUS!" came the response.

"Gay!" Dess called out.

Her voice got lost in the crowd, for the most part, but a few of the kids sitting nearer to them giggled and glanced over at them.

As the camp head ripped off the next piece of paper and started talking about the virtues of generosity, Asriel was caught between laughter and terror. "Dess, no, don't—Dess!"

But she was smirking in that way she did whenever she decided to plow headfirst into trouble. "Come on, Azzy, what are they gonna do to us? Kick us out? As far as I'm concerned, that's a win."

"Our moms will kill us!"

"Oh, like my mom doesn't already want to kill me." She paused for a second as the crowd shouted out the next pillar—EMPATHETIC!—and then gave Asriel a flat look. "Come on, Azzy. Is this really how you want to spend your summer? We're in high school now. We're basically adults. We shouldn't be stuck in some crummy church camp."

Asriel frowned. "I, uh, I don't know…"

"And that brings us to our final pillar," the camp head was saying. "L for…"

"LEARNING!"

"LESBIANISM!" Dess screamed at the top of her lungs.

The pavilion went dead quiet. Every head turned towards the two of them.

"Um. Dess?" Asriel tried to shrink in on himself. "Maybe we should…"

"Run," Dess said, grabbing Asriel's hand and sprinting towards the woods.
