Zoe stills a little as the hand tugs her over to them, her gasps or sobs or silence stretching between her and him. In her state of fear, some part of her reads the boy in front of her, logs everything about him in that moment that she’ll be able to remember much more clearly than the nightmare itself come morning. She’ll remember the warmth of his palm, the squint of his eyes, the sleep clouding his features, the sharp concern overriding it. She’ll remember the slight furrow of his brow and the gentle fall of his hair on his forehead. She’ll remember the effect Evan had as he pulled her closer to him, and she could feel his slower pulse against her rapidly moving one.

When Zoe looks back to see why Evan stopped following her, she sees his eyes eeerily focused on the wall just behind her head. With a furrow in her brow, she turns her head back forward without knowing what to expect from the look on his face. A bug? One of her parents? A sentient pair of jeans on the loose?
All her eyes find are the old framed watercolor hanging between her and Connor’s bedrooms. She’d painted it earlier in the year. Cynthia had insisted on hanging it, since she’d hung some of Connor’s work also. The swirling lines of the picture, ones that she knew layered over each other to create Evan, slumped in her passenger seat with a scarf pulled to his cheeks in the dead of winter, must have escaped his notice before.
“Sorry, I just never, I noticed that for the first time and that’s - that’s from the mornings, right? In the car?”
Suddenly without air in her lungs, she nods. “Yeah, Connor taught me how to, um, how to paint with watercolors and I was actually okay, and mom was, like, thrilled-”
“It’s good,” he cuts her off. “Really good.”

My mom had sarcastically said that I was too obsessed with dear Evan Hansen. She didn't say it in an I'm laughing with you, as much as it was an I'm laughing at you kind of way. I hate that my feelings get hurt so easily. I know it's not a huge deal.
On a better note, I'm freaking going to go see dear Evan Hansen at 2:00 and I literally cannot wait!!!!

I have a sudden burst of motivation that’s been gone for months! Woo-
I’m doing writings, like I always have. STILL A MUSICAL FANDOM ACCOUNT BUT OTHERS ARE HERE TOO! I’m clearing out my inbox and starting from scratch(sorry if you never got a ship answered) I’m accepting scenarios/hc’s as well as ships/matchups!

Jared I would say is probably pretty different in some ways from you (he’s more publicly outgoing and a little more reserved in private I’d say, which means oh can support each other when you’re uncomfortable that’s so neat) but you just hecking fascinate him.
Like he’s blown away by all of the things that you do and how well you do them (give yourself some credit uwu) but this is Jared so he’s like “ha you paint what a nerd” but he inevitably says some bs like “this is fucking sick.”

He loves to watch you dance because let’s face it, he’s uncoordinated and I will not change my stance on that, so it blows him away that people can move like that. Because “gah look at her that’s so cool, she’s so cool why does she want me in her life”
He’s a small guy but he’s still got one or two inches on you and he likes to pretend it one or two feet (“what’s the weather like down there?” “B e n c h”)
He makes a lot of jokes (but never about your insecurities, because he’s a good guy he deserves more credit)
(Idk what I’m doing this is looking very long and headcannony)
But I went with Jared for you mostly because oh boy the affection.
I think homeboy might be a tad touch starved so he’s always down to cuddle and hold hands, or just exist with you and you’re wonderful self.
PDA? Probably. Cuddles? Yeah. Forehead kisses? Definitely all the time. Hotel? Trivago.

And when you joined cheerleading, he was discouraged on asking you out or even admitting it
