Hey Derin! First time caller, long time listener. I'm sure you get asked this question a lot, so spit in my mouth if you've answered this before, but where do I start if I wanna do what you do?
I would love to release a serialized novel with an online fan base that will read every chapter with a patreon they can contribute to.
I don't know anything about websites or money or fans, I literally only know how to write fiction and tbh, I'm very overwhelmed!

It's honestly not that complicated.
write story
make free website (there are a billion services online to help you do this and very little difference between them, mine is with Wordpress), or find fiction hosting website that you like (royalroad, scribblehub and a couple of reddit subreddits were the big names there last I checked, but that might have changed)
make Patreon account. This is easy, Patreon will help you do it
put story on website one chapter at a time
tell people what you are doing
keep doing it and telling people until you get people reading it. This can take years. At the end of my first year I had one single patron. I've been doing this five years and I've just broken $1k/month. This is a great industry if you love writing but not if you love money
it will help to have some kind of social hub for your readers. I have a discord, which is a popular choice
just start doing it and solve problems as they arise
I also do not know what I'm doing. But every step is free (patreon will take a cut of your patronage but you need to be making money for them to do that, so, y'know). Just fuck around and find out.

I reread Copy-Paste by @derinthescarletpescatarian back in February and did a book journal spread about it:
The bookmark has stamped on it "From the library of Kate" repeating with varying degrees of legibility. I put a lil belt on the bookmark to hold all the other smaller cards. I really liked using my Van Gogh stickers for this one because it's like twins (or... Copies???) of one person and how copies can still look different based on fashion choices and age.
If you're looking for a fun sci-fi short story I highly recommend you check out Derin's website and look at their other writing for more totally normal adventures in space and other places.

Writing: Bol bol yazma alıştırması yap. Ben yeni öğrendiğim kelimelerle her gün yeni yeni cümleler kuruyordum kelimeleri unutmamak için. İngilizce günlük, ajanda tutmak da gayet efektif ama ben yazmayla ilgili en iyi alıştırmalarımı hep İngilizce mektup arkadaşı edinmekle yaptım. Cidden iyi geliştiriyor ama derin sohbetlere girince. Günlük hayattan konuşmak seni pek geliştirmeyebilir. Mesela ben felsefeyle ilgili konuşmaktan zevk alıyordum. Bunun gibi.
Reading: Mesela bir cümle gördüm ya da metroda birilerini konuşurken duydum, onları aklımdan İngilizce olarak çeviriyorum, hoşuma gidiyor. Bilmediğim bir kelime gördüğüm an vaktim varsa hemen anlamına bakarım unutmamak için. Ayrıca günlük olarak haber takip ediyorum İngilizce haber sitelerinden. Kitap okurdum eskiden artık pek yapmıyorum ama kitap okumak ve bilmediğin kelimeleri öğrenmek de efektif.
Listening: Dış dünyada duyduklarımı çevirmek bunun en rahat antremanı. Ayrıca podcast dinlemek de gayet iyi. Ben edebiyatla ilgili tartışmaların olduğu podcastleri dinlemekten zevk alıyorum, ilgi alanına göre podcastler tercih edebilirsin. Ayrıca dinlediğim şarkıları aklımdan çevirmek de hoşuma gidiyor. Kendimi bir anda Sezen Aksu'nun şarkılarını çevirirken bulabiliyorum. Eğlenceli.
Speaking: Antrenmana en ihtiyacım olan alan burasıydı dolayısıyla en çok pratiğe burada ihtiyaç duydum. Arkadaşlarımla birden İngilizce konuşmaya geçeriz, verimlidir. Kendi kendime İngilizce tartışmalar yaparım, kendime cevaplar veririm ve bunu yaparken basit cümlelerden kaçınmaya çalışırım. Yeni kelimeler öğrenip kendimi zorlarım. Dil bilgisini konuşurken kullanmak da burada etkili. Mümkün mertebe kendini konuşmaya zorla. Ayrıca şunu unutma cidden ana dili İngilizce olanlar bile Türkler kadar İngilizce dil bilgisi kullanmaya çalışmıyor. Harıla gürüle konuşuyorlar. Kasmaya gerek yok. Heyecanını yenmek için hata yaptığında ilk sen kendinle dalga geç böyle bir hassasiyetin varsa. Ben öyle yaparak çevremdekilerin benimle dalga geçme riskini azaltıyorum. Yanlış yapınca neden gülünür anlamış değilim.
Akademik (Bu başlık benim açımdan psikoloji için ilerleyecektir.)
Writing: Gerçekten essay essay essay ya. Öğrendiğim konularla ilgili psikoloji literatüründeki kelimeleri kullanarak deneme yazıları yazardım. Mesela Jung'un kişilik teorisiyle ilgili rahat 5 deneme yazım vardır ama hep kullanmışım onun psikolojiye kattığı kelimeleri mesela. Yazma konusunda iyileştiğimi vizelerde finallerde fark etmiştim. Zamanla meyvesini alıyor insan.
Reading: Benim bir defterim vardı, içinde psikolojiyle ilgili bilmediğim kelimeler yazardı hep. Bilmediğim için okumam da zorlaştığı için kelimeleri öğrene öğrene ilerlerdim. Ders kitaplarını İngilizce takip ederdim, psikolojiyle ilgili günlük haberlerin paylaşıldığı haber sitelerini takip ederdim. Mesela "flow" kelimesi mühendislik alanında direkt "akışkanlık" olarak geçer, bu akışkanlıktan kasıt örneğin su olabilir. Psikolojide "flow" ise genelde "düşünce akışı" şeklinde kullanılır. Alan literatürleri arasındaki farkları bilmek alanda derinleşmek için işe yarıyor.
Listening: YouTube kanalları ve podcastler ya, ötesi yok. Bu ikisi beni alıp bambaşka bir noktaya taşıdı dinleme becerisi olarak. Zamanla kelimeleri seçerek cümlenin tamamını dinlemeden ne dendiğini anlamaya başladım. Tamamen emeğe ve başta dikkatli dinlemeye bakıyor.
Speaking: Girdiğim ortamlarda genelde psikoloji öğrencileri olduğu için onlarla psikoloji alanından tartışmalar yapa yapa gelişti. Gelişime en açık yeteneğim konuşma yeteneğimdir, bence daha çok yolum var. Ama burada asıl kilit nokta sakinlik bence. Sakinliği ve stresi yönetince zihin daha berrak oluyor ve daha iyi ifade edebiliyorum kendimi. Sadece kendime şu güveni vermem gerekiyor: "Az çok fikrin var, boşuna okumuyorsun. Sakin ol ve bilgini yorumlayarak anlat." Hep kurtardı bu güven beni. Tavsiyemdir.

Derin writing: okay this chapter has a nice feel good tone to it, there’s some good emotional bonding, and character growth that means the tonal shift of the next chapter should make readers feel like i’ve hit them upside the head with a shovel.
