Lying on Grass
Lying on grass with a rushing cool breeze were hands resting, relaxing right under my head that was filled with cracked resin.
Planning on resting reclined, interrupting me was an approaching familiar speech that I've read and I recognized.
Rolling ideas revolving on through in my recesses, bravery rushed to the forefront and had me then run my tongue.
Rolling and rolling my tongue kept on frequently tripping towards left and then right. My mistakes upped and reared up reproachfully.

Now as that speech returns closed and removes all that weight, my mistakes, after wringing the rest of the stress off my chest,
Rested itself to reside and take residence in my reaches. Resurfacing rotten repressed removed reaches.
Rousing repression surrendered. Embarrassment, ill-preparation, hauteur clothed as pride, reservation not given but forced to be taken;
Worst of it all was the raising enraging self-hatred and anger that built up inside. Repressed by remorseful thoughts.

HiPOD: Crater-Delineating Mounds in Chryse Planitia
Similar HiRISE images of mounds around Chryse Planitia have revealed stunning and complex meter- and decameter-scale stratigraphy, indicative of widespread, regional-scale processes. Skew-T graphs will be the death of me
hi if you thought i’d strictly post art here well you’re DEAD WRONG and i am an UNHINGED METEOROLOGY MAJOR so here we fucking go hellsite
before i even get to the behemoth that is a Skew-T I have to talk about the previous lab I did so let’s talk about SOUNDINGS from a RADIOSONDE.
Every day at 0000UTC and 1200UTC here in the united states if a NWS station has enough helium and/or budget to do so they launch a WEATHER BALLOON.

ATTACHED TO THESE IS A VERY IMPORTANT STYROFOAM BOX called a RADIOSONDE. They collect all the data as the balloon goes up including pressure, altitude, wind speed, temperature, dew point depression, a lot of important things. The data they collect is collectively called a SOUNDING and the raw data looks like this:

I’m not gonna tell you how we decode these but basically at required pressure levels such as 1000, 925, 850, 700 hPA, etc. it tells us the temperature, dew point depression, altitude in geopotential meters/decameters, wind direction, and wind speed. The next two parts say the same stuff but at more levels and are more specific.
ALL THAT SHIT gets put on THIS FUCKER.

THIS IS CALLED A SKEW-T DIAGRAM.
i have to plot DATA on THIS for my lab due TOMORROW which is already late because I missed two crucial days in class due to mental health and my dog being sick so I’ve been taking notes on them ALL WEEKEND.
I love data as much as the next STEM major who loves data, but which dumbass decided that we were gonna make a menace of a graph that tries to fit as much information in a single goddamn thing as possible? I have no clue. Here’s what you get to know about this.
The horizontal lines with labels in the middle of them reading numbers like 1000, 950, 900, in intervals of 50 and using hectoPascal units are ISOBARS. These are lines of constant pressure and in meteorology we use these because pressure levels are far more relevant than altitude, and how high or low they are moves around so it’d get even more confusing even quicker if we actually used height (which we do but not right now I have enough on my plate).
The diagonal orange lines with the positive slope (so they point like [ / ] ) are called ISOTHERMS. If you’re already catching on you’ll figure these are lines of constant temperature which in this diagram is in degrees Celsius labeled I think within the respective isotherm here. The labeling schemes are not actually standardized which makes me want to strangle someone but I better get over that fast because there’s a lot of shit like that in meteorology. USUALLY they’re labeled at the bottom of the chart but not here because fuck me i guess.
Those are the easy ones. NOW I GET TO TALK ABOUT ADIABATS.
oh my god are they even. where the fuck are my dry adiabats. OH GOD I HAVE TO SQUINT
The very faint orange lines in the background that like, fuck, how do I describe them. The faint orange lines that look like they’re perpendicular to the isotherms (they are not) but are actually curved like the bottom half of the letter C are called DRY ADIABATS. These are lines of CONSTANT POTENTIAL TEMPERATURE. What the fuck does that mean? GOOD QUESTION. 
Dry Adiabats indicate the rate of change of the temperature of a parcel of dry air rising or descending adiabatically, meaning with no loss (or gain) of heat by the parcel. For each multiple of 10 degrees C, that Dry Adiabat shares its label with the respective Isotherm reflecting the temperature of its point of intersection with the 1000 hPA isobar. If your eyes glazed over and you didn’t understand a word I just said, that’s fine. Me neither.
So what’s constant potential temperature? It’s constant temperature we THINK it is. So that line could, potentially, represent that temperature. Maybe. I love science.
The green lines that make a really stretched out S sometimes, I don’t know how to describe these, these are called SATURATION ADIABATS, or MOIST ADIABATS, or SATURATION PSEUDO-ADIABATS. Nothing is standardized and I am suffering immeasurably. They represent lines of constant equivalent potential temperature. What the fuck does THAT mean? 
GOOD QUESTION! They represent the rate of change in temperature of a rising parcel of saturated air, assuming all condensed water vapor is liquid and falls out as the parcel rises (this is known as the pseudo-adiabatic assumption). Before you ask, I don’t know either. Pseudo-adiabatic dude just trust me.
Saturation Adiabats are labeled with the celsius temperature value of its point of intersection with the 1000 hPa isobar, and they share that label with the dry adiabats and isotherms.
Finally, the dashed lines with the positive slope are called SATURATION MIXING-RATIO LINES. AKA: HUMIDITY MIXING-RATIO LINES. They represent constant values of water vapor capacity, meaning the number of grams of water per kg of dry air required to saturate said air at a particular temperature and pressure. They’re confusingly and terrifyingly labeled at the bottom of the diagram with a range of 0.1 g/kg to 40g/kg in parts of water vapor per 1000 parts of dry air. Because the vapor capacity of air varies non-linearly with temperature, the intervals for labeling these are NOT uniform.

I wrote this while procrastinating on this exact assignment I had to decode a sounding and now I have to plot the temperature and dew point lines on one of these fuckers see y’all later for another stupid weather rant wahoo if im wrong on anything I’m sorry mostly to myself because that means I’m about to fail this lab bye bye

Sprites or red sprites are large-scale electric discharges that occur in the mesosphere, high above thunderstorm clouds, or cumulonimbus, giving rise to a varied range of visual shapes flickering in the night sky. They are usually triggered by the discharges of positive lightning between an underlying thundercloud and the ground.
Cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning is either positive or negative, as defined by the direction of the conventional electric current between cloud and ground. Most CG lightning is negative, meaning that a negative charge is transferred to ground and electrons travel downward along the lightning channel (conventionally the current flows from the ground to the cloud). The reverse happens in a positive CG flash, where electrons travel upward along the lightning channel and a positive charge is transferred to the ground (conventionally the current flows from the cloud to the ground). Positive lightning is less common than negative lightning, and on average makes up less than 5% of all lightning strikes.[67]
Optical imaging using a 10,000 frame-per-second high speed camera showed that sprites are actually clusters of small, decameter-sized (10–100 m or 33–328 ft) balls of ionization that are launched at an altitude of about 80 km (50 mi) and then move downward at speeds of up to ten percent the speed of light, followed a few milliseconds later by a separate set of upward moving balls of ionization.[14] Sprites may be horizontally displaced by up to 50 km (31 mi) from the location of the underlying lightning strike, with a time delay following the lightning that is typically a few milliseconds, but on rare occasions may be up to 100 milliseconds.

“And now, Ai-san has the distinct pleasure to reveal another example of Rinari’s brilliance!” Ai announced proudly.
“Ai-san, it was a collaborative effort.” Rina reminded.
Ai pursed her lips. “Ai know that, but it was still Rinari’s idea and design.”
“It was Ai-san’s idea.”
“And Rinari did most of the work.”
“…” Rina seemed to concede that point.
Setsuna couldn’t help giggling a little at the display between her friends.
“Anyway, where was Ai? Oh, right. Here it is, the new, improved, jiangshi and fallen angel tested, somnophore approved, Nightmare Consuming Pillow!” Ai held up what looked like an ordinary pillow. “Guaranteed to devour all dreadful dreams within a decameter or your money back!”
“It actually stores nightmares.” Rina corrected. “Kanata-san and Haruka-chan will be doing the consuming.”
“Yeah, but it sounds cooler to say the pillow does it.” Ai insisted.
“I’m sorry, Rina-san,” Setsuna spoke up, “but I must agree with Ai-san. The idea of a somnophage pillow is indeed quite exciting. I can’t wait to try it!” She accepted the pillow and hugged it, not entirely sure if she should be happy or mildly disappointed that it felt like a normal pillow as well.
Then again, she realized that if it felt too different from a normal pillow, it probably would be that much more difficult to acclimate to it.
“Anyway, I truly cannot thank you enough, Rina-san.” Setsuna continued. “I have tried so many things to improve my sleep over the years. But it often feels like Azathoth himself has forbidden me a full night’s slumber, shedding his own chaotic dreams to bequeath upon me as punishment for having the audacity to seek such things in the first place. Staying at Yuu-san and Ayumu-san’s place has helped these last few months, but…” She trailed off.
“Well, do let Rinari and Ai-san know if this improves your sleep.” Ai indicated the pillow.
“Despite Ai-san’s claims, I am still in the testing phase.” Rina spoke. “This is merely version 1.02. Kotori-san and Yohane-chan can adjust the fill blend of their feathers or the thread count of Kanata-san’s wool for the shell to suit your comfort needs. Also, depending on the severity and frequency of the nightmares, I may need to adjust the number or gauge of the conduction threads.”
“Rinari made those from my hair.” Ai flipped lock between her fingers to make her point.
“Indeed.” Rina agreed. “I have found doppelganger hair to be exceptionally versatile.”
“Anyway, you’ll also need this.” Ai held out what looked like a flash drive. “This is what stores your nightmares, so you’ll need to keep it near when you sleep, like on your nightstand or something. You can press this to see its capacity.” She clicked a button to demonstrate. “When it’s full, bring it back and Rinari can exchange it for another and give this to Kanata to empty at her leisure.”
Setsuna nodded and accepted the device.
“Oh, and while the pillow is machine washable, Nozomi’s cleansing enchantment should be able to handle normal use.” Ai explained. “Any other questions.”
“Yes. Are you sure I do not owe you, or anyone else who helped make this, anything?”
Ai smiled. “Setsu’s powering the theater and Rinari’s and Ai-san’s apartment. Ai’d say we still owe you.” She reminded the Cthughan of the generators being run off her living flame.
“Alright.” Setsuna agreed, still wishing she could do more. “Thank you again.” She bowed slightly before turning to leave Rina’s workshop.
“Sleep tight!” Ai called after her. “Don’t let the Shaggai bugs bite!”

Author’s Note Continued: Another callback to last year’s Promptober, as well as an idea brought up in the YohaRiko intro chapter of PoH proper. I’ve been fond of the idea of the monsters of the Sonoda Kurosawa Theater using their abilities and whatnot to band together and help each other since very early in my development of this AU. And while I initially just thought about a pillow that helped some restless sleepers sleep, I realized I had made Kanata - and thus Haruka by extension - a sleep paralysis demon/somnophore/somnophage, so why not make something instead that sought to remove just bad dreams from a sleeper and give them to the Konoe’s for sustenance?

HiPOD 6 Oct 2022: A Mesa in Chryse Planitia
The eastern flank of this mesa has already been imaged by HiRISE. The CRISM instrument has detected clays at the western end, but we lack the context for this measurement. Similar HiRISE images of mounds around Chryse Planitia have revealed stunning and complex meter and decameter-scale stratigraphy, indicative of widespread regional processes.
