wholesome brothers tormenting each other Deacon and MacCready is great, it should be its own genre
Woo! My first ask! Thank you! 😁
I've been working on beefing up my fic and came up with a little idea I was working on when this ask appeared...and it just happens to involve some Deacon humor!
I'm also excited about the whole Mac and Deacon backstory I'm penning! It's hella cute!
Anyhoo, have some wholesome brotherly banter!
Mac becomes the Mayor of Sanctuary. The Boss entrusted Deeks to write the contract.
Here's a wee excerpt from the chapter.
Nate withdraws a folded envelope from his breast pocket and slides it toward him. MacCready eyes the letter skeptically, reaching for it slowly. A tinge of unease creeps into his chest as he breaks the seal, unfolds, and lets his eyes scan the paper. He looks up at Nate, mouth half-agape.
“Wanted to make it official, lad, you sign that, and it’s a done deal.”
“200 caps a fortnight? Boss, that’s a lot of caps.”
“Ach, caps aren’t an issue when you’re the General, lad. The Settlements are doing braw, got some good trade contacts set up in Bunker Hill.”
His eyes return to the paper in his hands, reading through the rest. Deacon's rules get a smirk tugging at his mouth. He’d know that tone anywhere. His gaze falls on the two signatures at the bottom, Sturges and Jake? He doesn’t know whether to be flattered or surprised they signed off on this.
“This is ridiculous.”
“A contract is a contract,” Nate smirks.
“12 caps Railroad fee, huh?” MacCready glares at Nate, eyes narrowed. Nate shrugs innocently, the hint of a smirk playing on his lips. “Deacon knows I’m looking for a reason to shoot him, right?”
“Aye, I did mention that, but he insisted his penmanship was worth the fee.”
This is she 🤣🤣🤣
THE DEAL
This is a deal made on the 12th day of January 2288 between:
Nathanial Alasdair Watt (the Big Boss of the Commonwealth Minutemen),
And
Robert Joseph MacCready (that's you.)
THE JOB
1.1 Boss Watts is making you Lieutenant General of the Minutemen and Mayor of Sanctuary Hills.
1.2 Here's what you gotta do:
Run the show in Sanctuary Hills.
Be the Minutemen's guy in Sanctuary Hills.
Make sure everyone in Sanctuary Hills is safe and good.
Work with other Minutemen teams.
Make Sanctuary Hills a better place to live.
PAYDAY
2 You'll get 200 caps every two weeks, paid on the first and fifteenth day of the month.
ENDING THE DEAL
3. Either of you can end this deal. All you need to do is give a four weeks heads up. (Or one of you gets eaten by a Deathclaw)
RULES
4. This deal follows the rules of the Commonwealth.
No wearing sunglasses indoors (It's just uncool, man.)
Bad hair days are not a valid excuse to dodge duty.
"It's not my job" will be frowned upon.
Remember, taking showers isn't just for the residents.
Keep Dogmeat out of the Brahmin pen (that Brahmin didn't ask for this).
No more than one bottle of whiskey a day. You're Mayor, not a distillery.
- And for Atom's sake, no singing after you've hit that one-bottle limit. We've heard enough off-key renditions of "Butcher Pete."
So, it's all written down here. Sign if you agree.
N Watt. R.J MacCready ______________________________________________________________

OC ask for all ur gals, #22-brief history. So that folks can get an intro!
Okay! 22. Give us a (brief, or not) history lesson of your OC(s)
Let me get the uh...the spreadsheet up...
Mercy: Mercy Rose (Bishop) Hamilton, born on 08/02/49 in Florida. She moved to the Boston area after meeting Nathaniel Joseph Hamilton and he finished with his military service. She started out as a defense attorney in a fairly large firm, but left because the partners were a bunch of "jackasses." She started her own firm and would take cases pro-bono to help "the little guy" beat "big old bullies." This tenacity and stubborn streak would aid her well when she woke-up in Vault 111 after Nate was killed and Shaun taken. Despite being a tiny burning torch of rage and grief, she's dedicated herself to finding a way to track down her husband's killers while also forging a home in the Commonwealth and she's not going to let anybody stand in her way to track down her son (pro-tip, she's Highly Disappointed in who and what Shaun became). She eventually falls in love with MacCready, Deacon, and Jake Evans - cobbling together an unorthodox relationship that somehow works - even if Mac never stops bossing people, Jake leaves tools everywhere, and Deacon has the gravitas of a 2 year old.
Sparrow "Emma" Williams: Born 01/03/2269, is 19 when you first meet her. She was born somewhere in Massachusetts, but not in the Boston Commonwealth area. Her parents were farmers on a decently prosperous farm and she was the oldest of three children. When she was 11, slavers attacked the farm. They killed her father, tortured her mother, and ripped her younger brother and sister out of her hands. She got away, but not before she was shot. A neighboring farm took her in as little more than slave labor. She stayed until well enough to travel, moving from farm to farm as she grew older, till she heard of Diamond City. The Great Green Jewel sounded like the best place for an illiterate 14 year old who needed work, so she managed to make her way there. Unfortunately, at 16, the Institute paranoia began to run over into Piper's writings, and Emma - who is so pale she's almost an albino, around 4'9" tall, malnourished, and barely talks - caught the eye of the locals. Convinced she was an Institute plant, they drove her from the city, several men holding her down and branding her so she couldn't Hide The Truth. She fled into the Commonwealth and hid, making do with scavving and living off of what she could steal. When Mercy started setting up settlements, transplants from Diamond City saw her and spread the word that she was Institute. A bounty (that hit 600 caps) for her dead or alive was issued - and Mercy didn't know about it. Fortunately for Emma, she ran into a helping hand - Canary aka Grace Williams. Canary and her partner, Birdie, adopted Emma - who renamed herself Sparrow. She now does work for the Railroad and Mercy. She's dating a synth named Bean and a member of the Railroad, Darcy (Coyote). Francesca "Frankie" Warren is 23 (I haven't gotten her birthdate down yet) and is part of the local band, Cora and the Wailers. The band plays in Annie's Tavern in Jamaica Plains and is one of the biggest draws to the burgeoning town. She grew up near the Dallas/Ft. Worth Crater in Texas, the only child to the High Priest and his Wife of a Fundamentalist Christian Children of Atom cult. The cult believes that Atom is the return of Jesus and true believers will allow themselves to show their belief through division. Frankie was raised to become the wife of her father's second-in-command's oldest - who was only 14 years older than her (blech). When she turned 14, she stole money from the church lockbox and hightailed it West to California where she became a stripper, taught herself to play more than just the banjo and clarinet (she also plays the guitar and trumpet) and joined Cora's band. The band started heading East, hit the Commonwealth, heard about Jamaica Plains - and well, settled in (in the SWAMP as Frankie likes to moan). She's a fiesty 4'10" of blonde hair and big brown eyes that will beat you with a big old stick. She met a "hot" ghoul (she's the first to admit that Beau is one gnarly looking dude - but that man is FIRE) and fell in love...hard. Her and Beau will be heading back West to Texas to rescue her baby sister...that she just found out about when her Daddy showed up to abduct her and drag her back to Texas. Let's just say that Beau's sweet and a gentleman - till you hurt Frankie...and then some of who he used to be comes out to play.

Fallout AU: Faction Lore.
The Resistance.
“There Is Always Light In The Darkness; Follow The Freedom Trail.”
[I merged most of the factions in Fallout 4 together, mainly the Railroad and The Minutemen, to fit the story of my AU.]
• The Leaders:
Desdemona Harrison. [Railroad Leader.]
Nora Snow. [General of The Minutemen.]
• Nora’s Companions:
Joshua Graham.
Piper Wright.
Yuki Kobayashi.
Robert Joseph Maccready.
Frederick Sinclair.
V̴̝̗̖̖̓̈́ȩ̸͙̟̈́r̸̩̮̉̈́a̴̱̖̟̻̅̓͆̕ ̴͚͚͎̐͒͠K̵̡̀̀e̸̼̼̝̿ŷ̵̲̤͕̈́̔́ȇ̵̩̏͊s̸̹̻̬̔͜.̸̰͇̰̔
Deacon.
Colonel Preston Garvey.
Overseer Valery Barstow.
• Resistance Affiliates/Contacts:
Piper Wright: “The Voice of The People.”
Magnolia.
Mayor John Hancock: “Mayor of Goodneighbour.” [Town based in the East Boston Quarantine Zone.]
Lisa: “The Leader of Haven.” . [Haven is a town, based in the old Starlight Drive-In.]
Charleston, West Virginia. [The city of Charleston, is a very close ally to the Resistance, operatives smuggles escaped synths and refugees to Charleston. The people there have agreed to aid the Resistance any way they can.]
Sanctuary Hills. [A small community, nestled in the northern part of the commonwealth, far out of the Institute’s jurisdiction.]
Overseer Barstow and Vault 88.
Overseer McNamara and Vault 81.
[The Brotherhood of Steel, refuses to work directly with the growing resistance movement, because the leaders of the movement support the liberation of generation three synths. But, Brotherhood supply crates mysteriously show up at Resistance camps and bases.]
[The Enclave, the shadowy remnants of the old world government is spying on the events transpiring in the commonwealth.]
I love resistance stories.

look, in all my time on fo4 tumblr and on the fo4 subreddit where hatred runs rampant, ive still only seen two valid criticisms of the railroad as a faction. ever.
(im putting aside the whole entire slavery allegory for the purposes of this post)
these two criticisms are:
if you (yes, you. the player) fundamentally disagree with the notion that synths are sentient people, the organization makes no sense and is useless. i cant change your bedrock beliefs on what constitutes a person, so this criticism stands
the mind wipes might border on unethical. the idea is good and well-intentioned, but it kinda sucks in practice. synths can choose not to have the procedure, but the railroad's catastrophizing about what will happen if they dont feels coercive sometimes. i could probably be convinced otherwise, but i think this is a pretty good point
thats it. there are no more. im absolutely open to (and would love, actually) yall trying to change my mind but just know that if your criticisms are:
they're short-sighted; the organization will eventually dissolve because there will be no more synths left to help
they have no plan nor reason to help synths post-institute; the moment the institute explodes, so does the railroad
they're too narrow-minded; they should be helping people too, not just synths
by destroying the institute, they're stopping the production of synths; this nullifies their efforts in saving synths and is even, dare i say, hypocritical
their password being railroad is far too simple and the freedom trail is too easy to follow; theyre just asking for another switchboard
[insert member of the railroad, usually desdemona] is mean; the organization is full of assholes
then ur efforts will be wasted on me. all of these criticisms are bad <3

Apart from MacCready, who are your top three companions? Are there any you have never played or whom you avoid?
thank for sending an ask!! this is tough but i’ll try my best, apologies if this is a long response!
Spoilers ahead, of course...
My Top Three Companions | FO4
(Minus Mister MacCready)
First up, Deacon all the way.
Deacon and MacCready are my favourite companions and they both hold the top spot as I can’t choose between them haha
Deacon is such an awesome character. I think I might’ve said it before, but his character is such a refreshing take on the comedic relief in media. His comedy comes from his wit and jovial attitude, and he is just general such a cool person to hang around. Deacon’s life attitude is something I relate fondly to my own in many aspects, which is why I’m particularly connected to him. His backstory is well thought out and realistic, and one which I can empathise with from my own. All round, he makes me happy to hang out with and I care about him deeply and feel a common connection with him ...It’s this kind of connection I can’t properly being to describe honestly; thinking about Deacon makes me big happy, I truly just love the sunglasses boy. :)
Secondly!! Nicky Valentine
My lovely robo dad!!! Oh my god, Nick’s character is just amazing! I love his whole story; I feel the concept of a robot/android finding his place in a world that hates him is one of the few good cliches/stereotypes in media when done right, and the aspect of his memories being not entirely his own, and struggling with defining and identifying with his individual self and personality is so gripping. He is a kind, lawful good man in an unforgiving, evil landscape and a shiny beacon of hope for the sole survivor. I don’t travel with him as much as I should but I cherish the company and the support he offers.
Last but not least, Paladin Danse!
In some regards, I have had a topsy turvy opinion of Danse over time. He was my first companion I romanced, and I had heart eyes for him for a while before doing a full one-eighty and seemingly despising him and the brotherhood for a long time. However, I’ve learnt to see the best in him again! I think Danse is still a slightly misunderstood character. The idea of him being brought up into these ideals, and then learning he has been everything he hates for such a long time, coming to grips with his new identity, and the old one, which is his everything, who he is, being programmed to feel that way, is terrifying. His story shares similarities for Nick’s which I find is why I learnt to respect him again. He is one of a rare few characters who doesn’t immediately change his tune. It doesn’t make sense for his whole worldview that has been built into his whole being to disappear overnight, and I’m kind of glad he can still be a dick sometimes. Overall, I see him as a good friend and someone just trying to manage with the hand life dealt him.
Honourable mentions:
Hancock: I’m literally in love with him and I never use him. I don’t know why. He’s slightly too nice of a guy. He’s hot, tho. He gets hot points.
X6-88: I think he’s cute and the learning to feel love is cool, but I never side with the Institute. He’s hot too.
Curie: Babie, means well, big brain science chick, would trust her to perform various surgeries. 10/10 also hot.
My Least Favourite Companion(s) | FO4
Now! onto characters, I don't like...
I’m so sorry. Please do not come for me. I simply do not vibe with them. I swear I’m a nice person. I swear. I know it’s technically 6 Companions. Have mercy.
Cait
I simply do not vibe! I had her as a companion for a short time ago, and as much as I claim to be a gunslinging badass, I’m too much of a softie for me and Cait to get along. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE her character. She is well thought out (well, maybe not the miracle cure part, but...), but we are two different of people for me to get along with her during a playthrough. Too much [Cait disliked that.] will break a person.
Maxson
He’s not even a real companion! He hates synths! Why does everyone want to fuck him?! This man would probably shiv me for being queer and having an accent, and if I read one more “Maxson rail me!!” post on my feed I will combust. Y’all disgust me.
DiMa
Chicken feet motherboard tesla coil looking headas-
Companions who just annoy me, I’m sorry:

Patriot
I am at a loss, the Railroad has been dealt a blow today. We may have won the war against the institute and the Brotherhood but we lost Heros along the way. We lost one of our most important agents.. We lost Patriot, his sacrifice saved hundreds of status from slavery. I can't help but think that his death could have been avoided, that I let him and the Railroad down, it was my fault. I have my son... He's a little different than I expected...but he's here and I have my love, RJ, as close to married as we can get. We're going to bring Duncan to the Commonwealth along with anyone else who wants to come. We're going to be a family. I will protect them, for everyone we lost, I'll never let them go. I'm sorry Des, Tom, Carrington, Deacon, Drummer Boy, Pam, I'll never let you down again. Rest in peace Patriot. Rest in peace Glory.
