Hi, I’m Looking for anime recs. A bit of background: I’m 24, I’ve been “meaning to get into anime” since I was a kid. I love the art style and I love a few shows and I love following anime blogs, but I generally haven’t seen much, y’know?
I love Madoka Magica. It’s the only anime I have rewatched a bunch of times. A billion times, that’s a conservative estimate, I love it so much. But idk, every other anime I’ve seen I usually just find it “okay” to “pretty good.” Madoka Magica touched some intimate part of me that no other anime has ever done. I would just like to find another anime I could love almost as much. Please recommend me more anime.
Some other anime things I’ve seen
>Little Witch Academia (saw the whole thing once, enjoyed it)
>Ghost Stories (the dub, not the sub, though usually I prefer subs. I thought it was fucking hilarious)
>Darling In The Franxx (watched the whole show when it came out, it was okay)
>Bleach (watched the first season and a few episodes of the second, lost interest eventually. This was my first anime, I watched it dubbed)
>This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (saw the whole thing when I was young, it was pretty bad. I only saw it because at the time streaming services weren’t everywhere and this was available to watch free)
>Neon Genesis Evangelion (watched a few episodes and got caught up in other things. I keep meaning to watch it all the way through, but I haven’t finished it)
>K-ON (same as Eva)
>Cowboy Bebop (same as K-ON)
>Steins:Gate (watched a couple episodes and thought it was kinda cool but the main characters annoying and I dropped it)
>Death Note (started the first episode but never finished)
>One Punch Man (started the first episode but never finished)
>Battle Angel Alita (started the first episode but never finished. I enjoyed the live action movie though, saw it multiple times)
>Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (started the first episode but never finished)
>Angels Of Death (started the first episode but never finished)
>Gurren Lagann (started the first episode but never finished)
>A Place Further Than The Universe (started the first episode but never finished)
>Yu-Gi-Oh (saw a bit of the dub as a kid)
>Pokémon (same as Yu-Gi-Oh)
>Night On The Galactic Railroad (watched the dub a few times as a kid, watched it again recently as an adult and still enjoyed it)
I’d say if we’re to list the main appeals Madoka has for me, it’s
>the surreal/psychedelic animation in the witch rooms and in flashbacks. I like funky animation. I like the unique visual experience. Not anime, but my favorite movie as a little kid was Yellow Submarine, and I still love that movie. I also like the internet animators David Firth and Jakiv Burov. Ralph Bakshi is pretty good, I love Fritz The Cat. That stuff always appeals to me
>the fact that they’re all cute girls, I like cute anime girls and that’s why I so want to get into anime despite not having seen much
>the emotional depth of the show
>the fact that everything wraps up in a satisfying way
>that no time is wasted, there’s no filler episodes, it’s 12 episodes and each one is important and progresses the story forward
Hello!
Based on your perimeters, I think you would really enjoy Princess Tutu and Revolutionary Girl Utena. They're magical girl anime like Madoka Magica (although Utena kinda straddles the line) that are much more psychological than what is typical of the genre. I will say that both series are longer than PMMM (Princess Tutu is 26 episodes and Utena is 39 episodes) but from what I recall most episodes are heavy on plot/character development.
Yuki Yuna is a Hero is another series you might like; it's another magical girl anime quite similar to Madoka Magica and the first season is only 12 episodes (and it stands alone quite nicely). There are follow-up seasons but they're also only 12 episodes each.
Also, I recommend making a post on the r/Animesuggest subreddit! Just copy-paste what you wrote here. If any of my followers have suggestions, please leave them!
Oh, and I definitely recommend finishing Gurren Lagann. It's one of the best anime I've ever seen.

Sometimes l can't believe how much I love anime and rn I'm so glad I gave it a try bc it really does make me happy
~ Now that I've watched a few, I made a list of how I'd recommend new watchers :)))
[ the ones with 💜 are personal favorites]
------------------------> here we go :p
(These are mostly 12 - 13 episodes)
>> If you want something 10/10 that's not too long and can get you into it, some options are:
The promised neverland 💜💜💜
( this one's really clever and moving and has awesome characters, I love it sm)
Erased
( will keep u on the edge)
yuri on ice💜 💜
(light hearted, really gay ice skaters, you'll laugh and cry)
blue period 💜
(art students on distress!! complex characters )
spy x family
(u wouldn't expect something so wholesome to have spys and assassins on it)
>> if you'd like to start with a short romance anime (which is one of the best genres for anime in my opinion):
[all of these deserve a 💜💜💜 tbh]
Bunny girl senpai
( cute couple but also involves many teen struggles through awesome concepts, trust me)
your lie in April
( classical musicians with a twist of depression! also they are children <\3 )
given
(teen- and - young adult-gay - angst - and- fluff!! They're also musicians but it's mostly the rock edition)
orange
(teenage friend group battling depression <\3 includes something like time traveling)
>>>if you'd like to watch a movie instead definetly watch
note: these are all romance/drama movies
A silent voice💜💜💜
( teen angst about bullying and diversity. Big focus on mental health. Heartbreaking beautiful masterpiece that will make you rethink your whole life)
your name💜💜
(cinematic jewel, includes amazing supernatural concepts, a glimpse of Japanese culture and it's also beautifully animated)
weathering with you💜
( has a really really great story + beautifully animated)
whisper of the heart💜
( this one's ghibli, which means lots of aesthetic scenes, and sweet characters with great development)
From up on Poppy hill 💜
( also ghibli but add suspense )
bubbles
( really cool movie get some tissues tho, amazing animation)
----------->
Now some that aren't that short (mostly animes with 24-25 episodes don't worry)
>> Guaranteed masterpieces, haven't met a single being that disagrees:
Attack on Titan💜💜💜💜💜💜
(drama, action, romance, suspense, sociopolitical critique in a fictional world, it's got it all... this one has waaay more episodes than 25 but it's a must watch for everyone LITERALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT HERE
Banana fish 💜💜💜
(be ready to cry a lot, includes wide range of violence, drugs, crime, mental health issues and amazing characters. also a must watch imo)
Death Note
(personally don't see it as a HUGE masterpiece, but def a must watch I think. truly complex characters, keeps u on edge)
>> On these you'll fall in love with the characters and the unique plots :)
jujutsu kaisen 💜
(really cool characters, original power system. it's fun and exciting for now💀 let's just say when Manga is animated it won't be that fun anymore)
bungou stray dogs💜
(lots of dark humor, cool power system, characters are based on real literature authors and you'll become obsessed with them)
Tokyo revengers💜
(intense street fighters, gangs, betrayal, romance, mental health, time travel. HOT characters. the drama here is amazing)
Demon slayer
( filled with honest and heroic characters, messed up World, great animation)
>> If you'd like romance at its absolute finest
Fruits basket 💜💜💜
( takes a couple of episodes to unravel the actual story, but u just wait and you'll have one of the best drama with beautifully written and complex characters that carry a lot of trauma with them)
Kaguya-Sama 💜
(fun, clever and entertaining, these guys are the most competitive rivals)
toradora
( friends to lovers! won't say which friends tho 🤫 really emotional)
Darling in the Franxx
(science fiction romance anime, explores the innate traits of how human relationships and sexuality work + beautiful love story) -> (this one can be controversial: imo it's a very good representation sci-fi and anyone that can't help but emphasize on "its faults" should really read any sci-fi book from classic literature, just try to appreciate it as a whole concept rather than reducing it to romance) 💜

I never watched Darling in the Franxx because it looked bad. I realized I shouldn't say a show is bad without watching it. I watched it. It's bad... Let me explain.
Episodes 1-19
It's not bad but it isn't good either. It just exists. Nothing terrible nothing remarkable. The only major flaw is the world building and characters knowledge of their world. For example, I find it incredibly strange they all know what would be appropriate or inappropriate around each other, what being at the beach means (in terms of boys getting a nicer view of the girls) and other sexual things but they don't know what kissing is or what sex is.
Other similar contradictions happen throughout that doesn't make the story very believable. Additionally, it suffers from the characters having to comment about aspects of their world in order to explain something away to the audience (the invisible caretakers not cleaning the baths but doing everything else etc). This usually happens as a joke in other shows or even Broadway musicals to let the audience know yeah we know this thing is weird, like it suddenly turning into the day time, but roll with it. In this medium t's just bad writing.
There's no plot driven reason for this story to happen at all. The sexual nature has no real purpose either. It also fails to make any meaningful comments on sexuality or puberty. The show tries to in episode 19 and after but it falls flat. So the only reason for it was just cause/creators were being perverted (it's studio Trigger so it isn't surprising but their other notable works do a better job of hiding it).
Darling DOES make some comment on what it is to be human, to be alive, to grow older and what role adults can play in children's lives. This take away message is the only good point about the anime. It's not enough to make up for all the other areas though.
If Darling in the Franxx is someone's favorite anime, I wouldn't be surprised. I think it's great to just watch and have fun (up to episode 20 after that it's downhill so badly that 20 should've been the last episode). It's something to enjoy despite the sadder parts the characters interacting and just being isn't boring at all.
Shockingly, I don't hate the MC. I also am glad the love triangle doesn't take away focus from the combat aspect. They gave Ichigo a brain and other motivations other than her love life.
Episodes 1-19 5/10
Episodes 20-24 3/10
Overall, 4/10
Not the worst thing I've seen nothing interesting happened though either.

Goro darling in the franxx

Goro darling in the franxx full#
Goro darling in the franxx code#
She held a deep respect for Papa and the adults. She is a straight-laced and straightforward person, and she always faithfully abides by the rules out of what she believes to be in the best interest of APE and Plantation 13. This is shown when she lied to Hiro saying she always had seen him as a sibling for his sake and for the sake of the fact that he could only pilot a FRANXX with Zero Two, when in reality she didn't want him to due to the risks it carries. Despite that, Ichigo does sometimes not say what she truly wants to and is able to put her feelings aside for others if she wants to. She has been deemed by Zero Two on several occasions as "bossy". She is not afraid to voice her own opinions and get people to follow her orders as a leader. She has admired and been fiercely protective of Hiro ever since childhood, and supports Hiro the best she can. She shares a close relationship with Ikuno, whom she never hesitates to encourage during difficult moments and even comforted her after Ikuno confessed her feelings to Ichigo. She also expresses her anxiety more inside her FRANXX than she does outside of it and is seen breaking down, only to be supported by her FRANXX partner, Goro. She even goes as far as to stating Hiro would have been a better choice as the leader, but he rejects this and praises her positive qualities. She would think about her poor skills as a leader and blame herself for her putting her friends in danger. She would initially let her personal feelings get to her head when in a crucial mission, only to reflect over it when being placed in a dangerous situation. She is forced between acting as a leader and her own feelings, such as knowingly putting Hiro's life on the line while also acknowledging he's needed, this strain of commanding weighs her down. However, she is strongly emotional and has always been impulsive and driven by her feelings. She can also be encouraging towards her squadmates and insist that teamwork is important for all of them to survive. She tries to see everything in a good light, even if she herself doesn't want to. She is also very considerate and caring for her friends. Despite her serious disposition, Ichigo is capable of giving some notably snippy remarks, as seen in her interactions with Nine Alpha. When this did not come to be, Ichigo, while not blaming Hiro for their failure, couldn‘t hide her anger, not even when he tried to apologize.Īs a leader, Ichigo is reliable, responsible and serious.
Goro darling in the franxx full#
One of her motivations for agreeing to be Hiro's partner in the training match was because she believes she should be the one to bring out his full potential. She initially hated the possibility of a stranger like Zero Two becoming Hiro's partner. While normally a very considerate and level-headed person, her crush on Hiro impairs her judgment, especially as regards to his possible partnership with Zero Two. Because of her high aptitude, she was chosen as Squad 13's leader.
Goro darling in the franxx code#
Even when she was in the Garden, Ichigo was awarded a code number in the teens due to her high aptitude results, earning her recognition as an honor student and a natural-born leader. It was not until she met Hiro and he gave her the name ‘Ichigo’ to cheer her up and explain the significance of having her own name that made her self-confident. Her fringe is also cleaned up and her bangs on the left side are completely held back by her white hair clip.Īs a child, Ichigo was insecure and self-conscious about her identity, as she cried when the other children showed no emotion and she found it scary that she didn’t share these characteristics with them. In Episode 24 when she has become an adult, Ichigo's hair is more evenly-cut and longer on the right side. She dons the standard Pistil Parasite uniform. From Episode 09, she loses it but later gets a similar one from Goro. She also wears a white hair clip holding back the bangs on her left side, which was a gift from Hiro. She has free-falling bangs that mostly covers her right eye and one long strand of hair on the left side of her face. She wears her straight and short blue hair in a razor-cut hairstyle, where her hair hangs lengthier on the right side of her face. Ichigo has soft green eyes and a petite build, being the shortest among the parasites in Squad 13.
3.20 Episode 18: When the Sakura Blooms.
3.17 Episode 15: The Bird that Shares Wings.
3.16 Episode 14: Punishment and Confession.
3.15 Episode 13: The Beast and the Prince.
3.14 Episode 12: The Garden Where It All Began.
3.9 Episode 07: Shooting Star Moratorium.
3.4 Episode 02: What It Means to Connect.

So Ikuno and Naomi definitely ended up being a thing right?
It definitely seemed implied but I know people will disagree because it wasn't explicitly stated.

Darling in the Franxx ep 24 thoughts
Well alrighty then~
So........
I did love the flashbacks to the people on earth and how they were rebuilding. I loved seeing Kokoro and Mitsuru’s moment with the birth of their first child. I loved seeing the other characters grow up and glimpses of their own stories play out.
When it would flash over to 02 and Hiro, I just...honestly didn't care too much? I couldn't wait for it to go back to the people on Earth. Like, I feel like either they could have extended the series into two more episodes or just should have cut some shit out in previous episodes. Ya know?
I feel like we should have gotten a back story to other characters (lol Futoshi) or even see hints of like the love blossoming between characters with the time skips (Ichigo/Goro) or something like that. Like it definitely felt rushed and a little ...boring with VIRM and stuff.
Like at the end they were like “OH SO YOU SOULSSS CHOOSE PAINNNNNN blablabla WHATEVER WE WILL BE BACK WHEN YOU HAVE EVOLVED MOREEEEEE” like okay.
I like that it left it open at the end and that 02 and Hiro were reincarnated (I never thought they would come back to earth in Squad 13′s lifetime). I don't think there will be a season 2, but if there was, maybe the descendants of the parasites will be in it with the new 02 and Hiro. But who knows?
I felt like there were some really strong parts in this series and some really poor choices. The first few episodes really had me hooked but as time went on it was a little bit of a roller coaster for me. I’m sad we didn't see more backstories or just the progression of plot between characters and such to make it seem like “FUCK YEA” at the end.
I most certainly got that feeling about MitsuKoko because I feel like their story was well played and enjoyable! (Other than fucking 23 with just like “OMG I CAN LIVE WITH YOU BESIDE MEEEE” with only little hints of his concern-no dialogue.) Over time we saw their relationship progress and their ups and downs, much like we got for 02 and Hiro. However for Zorome and Miku, there was a lot to be seen between them even though they have the same necklace in the last episode. Who knows how Futoshi met the other parasite. Goro and Ichigo romance???? WHEN DID SHE REALIZE? Ikuno and Naomi, was there something there?
I enjoyed the series but I feel like they left a lot out. There could have been more and the whole Virm thing was squished in there honestly. Was it tolerable and okay? Sure. Could it have been better? Hell yea.
I watched the last episode twice. Once all the way through, and the second time I did skip over a lot of 02/HIro scenes because it wasn't interesting honestly. It could have been so epic but......it wasn't.
I loved that Hachi confessed in his own way :) YASSSSSSS BE ALIVE TOGETHER FOR EVERRRRRR
Anyway, idk how the rest of you felt but that was how I felt. MitsuKoko is still may fave and they got the ending I wanted for them. I enjoyed their story together the most and just wish I could feel as strongly for the other characters.
I was excited to see new episodes from week to week and I’m just glad for that because its been years since I last saw an anime that I felt excited about.
Hopefully there will be another show in the near future that can be just as exciting to wait for.
