Summary of translations of the Spy x Family EYES ONLY fanbook. Character comments by Tatsuya Endo

Damian

Damian's character is inspired by the manga "Hana Yori Dango" (also known as "Boys Over Flowers") by Yoko Kamio, specifically Tsukasa Domyouji.

He was originally a nasty guy who bragged about his status, but soon became a nice guy.

Endo originally wanted him to be a nastier character.

Lin says that Damian and his lackeys are true friends and that Damian's whole story to come should be done with care

I don't know if many know this, but it's known that Tatsuya Endo is a fan of the shoujo genre. And the fact that he based it on a Yoko Kamio's character excites me *doki doki*

Tsukasa and Damian already have a lot in common for example:

They are both haughty.

They both brag about their social status

They like to make fun of others

They have a personality uhm…. complicated?

They are never with their family ( one of the main reasons why they are both like that )

And the most important of all… ¡They are in love with unique girls, they received the fist of love!

But here's something that catches my attention, Tatsuya Endo said that the coming story for Damian should be done very carefully. That means that Damian's character is really going to influence the story a lot. And guess who else he will influence? That's Anya. I don't want to rush to say too much but the way things are going in the manga Damian and Anya's relationship is really moving forward. Damian is willing to protect Anya from danger. And that has been shown many times in the manga. Even though he often says that Anya is very annoying and more unpleasant things, he really appreciates her a lot and cares about her. And I don't know if you have seen the anime/manga of Hana Yori Dango, well, the real villain of the anime is Tsukasa's mother, once Makino and him start a relationship, doumyouji's mother does everything to separate them. I don't know if Endo has something similar in mind for Damian and Anya's story but it's going to be interesting.

Finally, I don't want to get ahead of myself but I'm 90% sure that Damian and Anya will be together in the end and I'll tell you why? Because they complement each other too much and for example Damian is very serious and mature for a boy of his age, Anya is very immature and is not serious at all (but well she is only 4 years old) But what I mean is that Damian has that seriousness that she lacks, and Anya has that joy and spontaneity that he lacks. Anya has influenced Damian a lot and in a way changed him, the same thing happened with Tsukasa, he met Makino a girl totally different from the ones he knew and she changed him. Damian appreciates Anya a lot but she appreciates Damian? At first she thought he was an annoying brat and to some extent she still thinks the same, but Makino also had that thought of Doumyouji but as she got to know him those thoughts changed and in the end she ended up falling in love with Doumyouji. Probably something like this will happen with Damian and Anya, she will get to know Damian and little by little she will start to love him the same way he does. But for this I think there has to be a time skip. So we can only wait for the evolution of one of the most popular spy x fmily couples. ♡

Young Romeo & Juliet? My DamiAnya theory

I theorize that Anya and Damian’s relationship will not only be the biggest catalyst for the story, it’ll either make or break Loid’s entire mission. Since Anya is committed to helping her adoptive Father by any means necessary, she’s been proactively pursuing Damian as a friend. But Damian’s perception of her is more complex.

First lets remind ourselves that these are children. Children that’re only 6 years old. Their feelings for each other, romantic or not, are in their purest form. They’re at the phase of their childhood where they’re JUST starting to notice the opposite sex is different than them.

It’s very obvious that this is Damian’s first crush. The rose colored glasses perception of Anya and the fact that he called her cute before they even spoke to each other goes to show his interest in her being on the puppy love side of things. But he already knows that his feelings for her are taboo, since he’s part of the upper class and Anya comes from the poorer class of the social hierarchy. A dynamic that is frowned down on by most if not all of Damian’s friends and family. If he were to pursue a romantic relationship with Anya when they’re older, it would be met with extreme opposition if not more hostility among his family.

Then again...his relationship with Anya could also be the turning point in his entire dynamic with his family as a whole. Since Anya has already encouraged Damian to take a stand for himself and to be more bold when it came to talking with his Father directly. Hell the whole reason why he’s going to Eden Academy is because he wants to earn the love and acknowledgement of his Father. But if he gets privy to what he’s been doing by Anya, his older brother, or even by pure coincidence when it comes to the cold war situation then he might extend a helping hand to Loid.

We don’t know how many years it’ll take for Operation Strix to be completed, what with Loid wanting to get to his target as soon as humanly possible, but on the worse case scenario side of things I’d say that it might take him until Anya’s teenage years for him to gain the trust and the access to his main target. Even Loid states that everything is up to her when she’s officially enrolled into Eden Academy to become friends with Damian and become a Scholar to get to the target.

We’re seeing some genuine feelings start to develop on Anya’s side of the relationship in the manga and in the light novel that was released, but they’re surface level at best when it comes to depth of her true feelings for him. But as they interact more and they learn about each other more, I believe Anya’s feelings for Damian will become mutual and she’ll become conflicted by her romantic feelings for Damian and her Father’s mission.

But again. That’s just my Theory.
