Both Oak and Dain had horns, goat legs, blonde curly hair and the same eye colour but NONE of us realised they were father and son. Not even the book characters.

i love how Oak has a little of all his family members in him.
Etiquette and pragmatism from Oriana
Murder mode similar to Madoc's bloodthirst
Definitely Jude's anger
Vain, Charming, Flirtatious like Cardan
Playful like Vivi, Coy like Taryn
With a pinch of lovetalk from Liriope
And ofc, the Greenbriar bloodline from Dain

Locke waking up in some afterlife to Valerien, Dain, Balekin and so many others killed by the Duartes/Madoc's family chanting " One of us. One of us "

So… I LOVE JUDE ! Very quiet literally ! Cause she not only was the main character of her books but she was also the main character of her brothers books, which ultimately makes her THE MAIN CHARACTER!
Also can we appreciate the balance oak was between Cardan and Locke ? Despite majority my literal being despising Locke with all my wit I cannot help but notice how oak’s thoughts are all like that of Cardans’ but majority of his actions at least till the whole of stolen heir and more than half of the prisoner’s throne were that of Lockes’. Though at the end he did a lot of actions like that resembling Cardan or even Dain. But no one can deny that oak is the perfect mixture of Locke and Cardan !

There are two ways for mortals to become permanent subjects of the Court: marrying into it or honing some great skill. (TCP, Jude while getting ready for a revel) Do not reveal all that you can do. Show your power by appearing powerless. That is what I need from you.” (TCP, Dain to Jude, after the hand-stabbing scene) But I cannot forget his words to me: You are my creature, Jude Duarte. I touch my wounded hand to the hilt of my silver sword, the sword my father forged. After tonight, I will be the High King’s spy and a true member of his Court. (TCP, Jude during the coronation but before it went GoT) There were only two ways of being part of the court without raising suspicion. And Dain told Jude explicitly to not show any of her skills. Jude should have been way more worried about what Dain was planning for her.

I mean no one asked but here’s the Greenbriar- Duarte family tree. And I did spend nearly an hour on it. It’s not in usual family tree format but this is not your usual family.

And here’s the Greenbriar- Duarte family tree but with murders on it (but not murders by anyone not in the family)

I have a random theory that I thought about one night that I want to share. It was mentioned multiple times that Cardan and Balekin are alike right? Well what if Eldered isn’t Cardan’s father and it’s actually Balekin. Like think about it Eldered was sleeping with Lady Asha and what if Balekin was too,he could have done the same thing that Dain did except Lady Asha isn’t one of Eldered’s consorts like Liriope but you get it. It’s random , far fetched , and there isn’t much to back this theory up , but it’s kinda interesting if you think about it.

If I have to compare the Duarte sisters to the Greenbrier brothers I would have to say Vivi is Cardan, Taryn is Dain and Jude is Balekin...
Vivi and Cardan are the chaotic wild child, they (mostly) do what they want when they want to. Jude and Balekin are people that you do not want to mess around when you know their reputation. Taryn and Dain on the other hand have crafted their mask to deceive others and themselves of how awful they can be

Might be a reach but I have this theory Dain was aiming at Asha with that arrow trick. Why? Balekin had tipped Madoc about Eva being alive for the General's favour. Asha most likely helped Eva run away but Madoc couldn't go slay one of the Prince's mother just on that. Dain might have seen getting Asha punished as a why to curry Madoc's favour. Getting Cardan out of the palace was possibly a welcomed bonus to Dain.

Dain was killing the unborn Greenbriar children of the next generation
Now it is well known among folk of the air fans that Dain sent the ghost to kill Liriope after she became pregnant with his child Oak but thanks to Oriana Oak survived and Oriana pretended Oak was Madoc’s son. But isn’t it kind of odd that Eldred was able to have six children and Dain had Oak unexpectedly but none of the other Greenbriar siblings have any kids when most of them have been alive for centuries and I doubt they were celibate during that time? I know it’s rare for faeries to have children, but the Greenbriar’s seem pretty fertile, and Dain managed to have Oak unintentionally so shouldn't any of his siblings have also been able to have at least one child? Unless Dain was deliberately stopping any children they could have from being born. Think about it Dain probably thought if any of his siblings, especially Balekin and Elowyn, had children then it could ruin his own chances for the throne. And if he was willing to kill his own child to become king then he could definitely kill his siblings’ children and so whenever his sisters or Balekin’s lovers became pregnant he sent his spies to cause a miscarriage or something. I know this might seem farfetched, but this is a pretty good theory and I’m actually using this in my fic The Dark Queen of Faerie on ao3 if you want to read about it. Oh, and JKarrEagle is also using this theory with my permission for her story Evil King of the Faeries which can be found on fanfiction.net and ao3.
