Ah fuck first art post
Here’s my Grey Warden, Cyren Tabris, and his mabari, King, in a tarot card inspired piece. I took the most inspiration from the Strength card, which usually depicts a calm woman taming a beast, and represents finding solutions via gentle means. Cyren is very much not known for his calm and gentle side, and tends to run into things with a bit more bravado. I wanted to show this part of him though.
Story stuff gets a #tw for animal death
When Cyren was growing up in the Alienage, he once found a sickly hound, scrawny and scruffy as he. Much like any child would do, he tried to befriend the dog, and even wanted to bring it home to his father, but the dog was too ill to do much of anything, barely able to move. When the young Cyren saw the condition it was in, he realized it was too far gone. The most merciful thing would be to give it a gentle end.
As the years went by, Cyren carried this experience in the corners of his mind. He never forgot, but he didn’t think about it very much. When he arrived at Ostagar, however, he quickly spotted the kennel. There, just like all those years ago, was a sickly hound. In some ways, this felt like a second chance. Maybe he wasn’t able to help last time, but now he was older and in the right place at the right time.
After the battle of Ostagar, Cyren was resigned to the fact that the mabari he found medicine for, along with all the rest of its kennelmates, were dead. The darkspawn overtook the city without mercy. He burned hot with grief, for the dogs, for the warriors, for the Grey Wardens, and hell, even for King Cailan himself. He was wrong. He wasn’t able to save anyone — not then, not now.
But when the very same mabari from the kennels found Cyren and his companions on the road to Lothering, something changed in the elf. Maybe he wasn’t able to help everyone, but this dog, the one that was dying in a kennel in Ostagar only days before, was standing in front of him, alive and well. Were they bonded now? He wasn’t sure, but he did know that this dog knew a rough life before they’d met, and that was enough to form a kinship between them. He named the mabari King, and since that moment, the two were nearly inseparable.

OC Tag Game :3

Gonna limit myself to Dragon Age OCs just because I have a ton of them and I'd be here all night if I tried to pick favorites out of all of my characters, lolololol.
Favorite OC: making me pick my favorite child is cruel how dare you it's Serafina LOL. She's an awful terrible gremlin, salty and bitter, and she'll bite you for saying so but she does have a soft heart somewhere underneath all the hostility.
Newest OC: Hmmm I think Emmy is the newest, and she's not even that new tbh, that was less than a year ago. She's a Fenhawke kid who, of course, inherited magic, and her mother is Determined that she will have the stable childhood that none of the Hawke children got. Things don't quite work out that well, but Briar tries.
Oldest OC: Serafina again! She's been through a half dozen incarnations but there is a 10k fic I wrote back in 2015 that features one of the early versions of her. It's on my old AO3, so good luck finding it lol, but this was before she was a mage, before she was named Serafina, but the bones of her character are there.
Meanest OC: You might think I'm going to say Serafina again but no, it's Tabris. Who is from the same worldstate as Serafina, if I am remembering my worldstates correctly. There's a wip somewhere in my files of them getting to be Salty and Angry About Everything together and it's great fun. But yeah, Tabris is all rough edges and not shy about it.
Softest OC: Oh that's a hard question. I want to say Emmy, but you know, I don't think that's true. I think Cyren is the softest. Which... that seems appropriate, he is a healer haha.
Most Aloof/Standoffish OC: A close tie between Serafina and Tabris. Serafina has a long history of avoiding social interaction and people in general as a method of hiding her magic (if no one knows you exist, no one can report you to the templars, or so her logic goes), and Tabris just plain doesn't like most people.
Dumbest OC: Serafina sure has her moments lmao.
Smartest OC: Very probably Cal. They keep their cards close to their chest, but Cal is well-read (as well-read as one can get in the Circle, anyway) and tends to collect all sorts of information without even trying. You need a solution for a weird problem? Cal can probably help.
OC I'd Be Friends With: Honestly, most of them. Erik is an asshole so not him, and Tabris probably wouldn't give me the time of day, but the rest of them are mostly decent folk. Oriana and Cyren, for sure (aside from the part where I'm human lmao). Cal and Briar, too.
And lest I make this any longer than it already is... I'll tag @lost-inthyme, @sulky-valkyrie, and anyone else who wants to talk about their OCs for a minute!

I have some other DAO ocs in mind (which means even more playthroughs) and once I have more time I’ll develop them better. For now I’ll leave them here just in case anyone’s interested :D
Helia Surana: chaotic neutral. fire/blood mage. the rebel one, actively fights against the circle system. will fight almost anyone. hates being told what to do. romances leliana, doesn’t do the dark ritual (alistair makes the sacrifice)
Cyren Tabris: true neutral. dual-wielding duelist. smart and snarky, doesn’t get attached easily. usually prefers to choose his battles over helping someone he doesn’t know. patient, every decision must be considered. romances morrigan and does the dark ritual
Shaeni Mahariel: lawful good. archer/ranger. cinnamon roll, got caught by accident in this evergrowing shitstorm. the responsible friend, gets along with almost everyone. enjoys little moments of happiness, tries to be optimistic despite everything. romances alistair and makes the ultimate sacrifice

I am fighting for my LIFE to prove to myself and others that these two don’t look the same
My main ideas for their design differences is that Zevran is broader and more filled out, more squared off, where Cyren is wiry and slight, and a bit more pointy than his companion. Sure, they’re both elves with tanned skin and light hair, but visually speaking that’s where the similarities end in my mind.
Honestly, it was fun to draw them side-by-side like this as a practice of their designs. It’s always harder for me to make a satisfying translation of a canon character’s design, funnily enough. Zevran is definitely the one I’ve struggled with most.
At the end of the day I love these silly guys and it’s really not that important, but it made me happy to get back into drawing them.

I just realized that all of my warden's have an animal sigil that kind of pin points to their heritage. Jackal obviously has a Halla, Imogen has a falcon, Cyren has a fox, and Mercer of course has a dragon.
