I can't believe I have to say this, but--
TRIGGER WARNING: GAY CLOWNS
Uhhhhhh idk man, I've been really bogged down in the weeds of building the style guide for the final version of Inheritance (the one that will be in print!), and somewhere in the delirium of choosing fonts and brushes and textures, my brain was like "haha what if...Rivro were commedia dell'arte clowns..."
Sorry if you're scared of clowns. At least they're European clowns and not stupid honk-honk clowns, idk why but I personally wanna choke out the Ronald McDonald-It-Bozo type of clown myself
also I never embarrass Ro enough so I made him Pagliacci cuz he's emo, the end

2024 vs 2021
I always attempt to do this as fast as I can, as loose as I can, without references. As you can see, the first four attempts (from three years ago, haha) I gave up including Ro'onui entirely, because I couldn't manage the perspective/anatomy involved without a reference.
anyway none of these pieces are finished/polished, but it's wild to see that my "unfinished" work now can pass as complete!

When the wayward heir of a grand duchy crosses paths with an impossibly handsome American chef, they experience un coup de foudre; a bolt of lightning, love at first sight. Unfortunately, River is NOT gay (he swears!) and Ro, heartbroken from a recent affair, has vowed never to catch feelings again.
Happenstance (or perhaps the hand of Fate) keeps them colliding with one another���and falling a little more in love—until River is forced to contend with his closet door and Ro realizes he is too warm to have a heart of ice.

It's #webcomicday!
INHERITANCE is a gay peerage romance set in present-day Europe. It interweaves classic fairytale tropes into a modern story, with Shakespearean-level dramatic stakes, and centered around a slow-burn (and gay) love story.
Okay now please let me wax poetic:
This story is a labor of love.
I stopped drawing in 2010 after intense burn out, and didn't begin again until 2021. I decided (against all popular advice and the voice of my own inner critic) to jump from doing zero art at all into making a webcomic, and I am so glad I ignored everyone/everything and took the leap.
I have wanted to see something like INHERITANCE since I was young--a sweeping gay romance where the couple doesn't get sick or murdered or sundered apart. Adult characters with depth and nuance, diversity, and an engaging plot beyond their first kiss or first time in bed. I wanted drama that didn't center around the two leads being mismatched or toxic to one another, I wanted the pressure to come from the outside--us VS the world type beat. I wanted to see gay love that transcended worldly obstacles, the way we've seen hetero pairings depicted since time immemorial.
This STILL doesn't exist in 2023, to my knowledge, so I'm doing it my damn self.
