Dedicated to @figuringthengsout because you like horses, I hope this includes zebras!😘
I don't know much about who this guy is and I don't have a story for them. But, as you see, they're one pony very eager to become a hero! So maybe you can take them home, give them name and give them a story yourself?
If any hint about the character - I'm pretty sure they're made of fascinating contradictions😉 And they obviously live in Africa!
Okey, there was a short break in my drawing (it was because of my first real life art exhibition - which was really nice by the way😁) but now that my sleeping time and everyday routine already came back to norm - I wanted to start making art again.
For some reason quick sketching with my ballpen is the most relaxing creative activity. Of course I have tons of other ambitious ideas and plans of things to draw - but drawing something "just like that" is always the easiest way to come back on track. And sketching with a ballpen gives you no way to come back and correct things which is... surprisingly relaxing as well? No pressure for this to be perfect. So here's just minimal edition that nobody might notice
Just got back from visiting my grandpa’s farm and I’d thought I’d share some pics of his animals. He has a herd of black Hereford and angus cows (with one red Hereford cow) and a rescued horse named Duke who you can’t really ride and so he lives rent free as a pasture pet/massive spoiled brat. We love him though! He was acting real sweet and affectionate, licking mine and my cousin’s hands but it was a ploy to try to get us to lower our defenses so he could sneak out of his pen. When we foiled his plans he decided to try to eat my coat, my cousin’s hair, and my aunt’s hand.
It is a beef farm so none of the cows have names except for the one in the first pic with the black markings on her face. Her name is Houdini because she kept escaping when she was younger and my grandpa has begrudgingly accepted that she’s a pet now. They take her and her calves up to their local fair every year for the petting zoo and cow patty bingo and she’s also the only cow who will let you pet her.
(Btw the mark on Duke’s face is just a bald spot from his halter from when he ripped it off his own face and it’s not a wound or anything)
Working on this one was challenging because there is only one picture from 1884 taken of this animal before its extinction. However, when I have to put inventive ways to create an animal as realistic as possible is when I enjoy the illustration more.
Tarpan
Scientists have long grappled with the origins of the domestic horse, seeking to establish its ancestral roots. Initially, there were two distinct horse populations: the Prewalsky horse in Europe and the Tarpan in Asia. Regrettably, the Tarpan became extinct at the dawn of the 20th century, leaving no DNA samples behind. This absence of genetic evidence has posed a significant challenge in determining the true origins of the domestic horse. Nevertheless, studies analyzing the DNA of the Prewalski horse have provided compelling evidence of a close relationship between these horses and their domestic counterparts.
Numerous endeavors have been undertaken to revive the Tarpan breed. While the Heck Horse bears the closest resemblance in terms of appearance, their genetic makeup tells a different tale.
