that goddamn curtain man

OH MY LORD THEY TOLD US EXACTLY WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MIKE
Bare with me for a minute.
S2 Ep 5: (context: Nancy and Jonathan are with Murray talking about how to get the truth about Barb's death out there.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Behind the curtain is the truth. Some people aren't wired in the way that they want to know the truth, or search for the truth, or be skeptical of the information they're given. In other words, they accept the lies they're given easily because of this. They want to believe the surface level things, and not look deeper. Kinda reminds me of someone...
Tumblr media
Mike accepted Will's lie about the painting being from El so easily because he didn't want to dig deeper. According to the cast, he's pretty clueless. However, ignorance is a choice. He's choosing to look the other way because he hasn't come to terms with his own feelings for Will and is still not willing to admit him being queer is the truth behind the curtain, and something he can't change. That's why he just accepts this lie from Will. He thinks El needs him and he needs to tell her he loves her. He doesn't question anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"They like the curtain."
If we wanna go even deeper with this, (which we do because you wouldn't still be reading if you didn't) we could say the curtain = beard.
The beard = El
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Mike likes El. She provides stability, comfort, definition."
Hiding the truth behind his beard keeps up his heteronormative appearance and comforts him- makes him feel normal. El gives him stability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"This would open the curtain, and open the curtain behind that curtain."
If Mike admitted his feelings for Will, it'd open up the curtain, revealing the part of himself he's been shamefully hiding for so long.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come on guys! The Byler coded curtains? The window that most likely represents coming out? Literally malfunctioning at how planned this was. Mike has always been written as queer. This conversation with Murray is so queercoded it hurts. It's about Mike. Beyond the curtain is the truth that Mike has not been willing to admit. In season 5, we're going to see a resolution to this. He'll come to terms with his feelings and open the curtain, coming out. He's already beginning to let go of El, his beard- his curtain- and once he does, he'll reveal the truth behind it.

It sounds so silly but after seeing David and Gillian’s up and downs in the 90s, I get so pleased to see their adult friendship nowadays. The knowledge that they arranged to meet as he was in London and spent some time at her place (? Also hopefully I’m sure keeping covid safe as technically we are not allowed to meet indoors in the U.K. but them eating out in a restaurant would be a pap event lol) is a very normal thing but sometimes seemed unlikely when they were younger. Just catching up on their lives like old pals and David meeting Stella 😁
i am still smiling too over the photo, actually you know what's the best of that was that it is just them as friends (or whatever it is their relationship is) catching up without any txf thing or charity, or literally ANYTHING just people catching up. Also hopefully Stella loves her new friend, David.
Doesn’t sound silly to me, anon. I feel the same way. I think many of us who were constantly told how much they disliked each other and didn’t want to spend time together during the original run feel a similar way. They’re just two old friends catching up. After all this time, no matter what happened, they’re friends.
Either Gillian isn’t aware of current covid protocol or she was like, what the hell, I gotta see this dude. I’m sure Stella loves David and David loves Stella.
Hey ! Gillian and David's selfie was taken in Gillian's kitchen ;) Check on Gillian's instagram, the pic she took for The Crown's premiere, she captioned it "from my... kitchen! "
I wonder how many times GA touched DDs thigh and bumped shoulders with him the day they took those pictures..........
Yeah, this did not happen in PM’s kitchen. I’ve had a very funny, very sweet and in general, just wonderful conversations regarding #curtaingate. You guys know who you are and thank you 😘
As for the touching... it probably happened (a lot). I think they hugged each other for a good, long while once they saw each other. They’re so used to be in each other’s space. I want to believe that hasn’t changed.

New Post has been published on Conservative Free Press
New Post has been published on http://www.conservativefreepress.com/politics/curtaingate-nikki-haley-says-ny-times-knew-the-facts/
CurtainGate: Nikki Haley Says NY Times “Knew the Facts” Before Printing Fake News
The headline left no doubt about what The New York Times was trying to do when they went to press on September 13: Nikki Haley’s View of New York is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701.
This was not, as you might have guessed, the New York Times suddenly deciding to be a watchdog for federal government waste. That’s not in the paper’s nature, since by their very bias, they crave government waste. The Democratic Party can’t claim total dominion over wasting taxpayer dollars, but let’s be real: Of the two parties, they’re the only ones who actually put it in their platform. So it would be unusual for one of their biggest media cheerleaders to start pointing it out. Military waste? Sure. Wasted money for UN diplomacy? No way, Jose.
No, this was an excuse to drag Haley’s name through the mud and maybe even start up a Scott Pruitt Scandal, Part II. After all, $50K for curtains? That’s ridiculous. What the hell was Nikki thinking?
Knowing that 90% of their readers aren’t going to go past the headlines and that 95% aren’t going to read past the first couple of paragraphs, the Times carefully waited until Paragraph #6 to get to this rather important clarification:
A spokesman for Ms. Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration. Ms. Haley had no say in the purchase, he said.
But after getting heat from others in the media, The Times finally came back a few days later to issue a correction, change the headline, remove the photograph of Haley that accompanied the original piece, and alter the article to reflect the facts.
“An earlier version of this article and headline created an unfair impression about who was responsible for the purchase in question,” the correction said. “While Nikki R. Haley is the current ambassador to the United Nations, the decision on leasing the ambassador’s residence and purchasing the curtains was made during the Obama administration, according to current and former officials. The article should not have focused on Ms. Haley, nor should a picture of her have been used. The article and headline have now been edited to reflect those concerns, and the picture has been removed.”
If you navigate to the article today, the headline reads: State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley’s Residence.
Which, frankly, is still a little misleading.
In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Haley said there was no excuse for the smear job.
“They knew the facts and they released the story anyway,” Haley said. “I hadn’t even taken the job when these curtains were picked out. We told the reporters that these were the facts.”
This, of course, is proven by the fact that the original story included that bit from her spokesperson. A bit that, if true (and it was), should have invalidated the story’s focus right off the bat. And if the NY Times weren’t so consumed with trying to destroy this administration, it would have.
We’d say they should be ashamed of themselves, but who are we kidding…

Curtaingate never ends...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
M*leven kissing in front of closed, yellow curtains in s3. Mike's still fully in the closet, denying his sexuality completely to himself, trying to cling onto any shot at being "normal."
Yellow curtains open but blinds are closed during m*leven's fight. You can see the light from the window, just not exactly what's behind them; you have an idea what's on the other side of those blinds. Mike knows what's beyond them, but he's not yet willing to open the shades and actually, purposefully acknowledge what's behind them. He still thinks- hopes- he may have a shot at being normal, though it's becoming clear he may very well not be normal anymore, and there's no running from that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curtains in Hop's cabin during the byler couch scene; opened, some blue, (or grayish-blue) some yellow. Light is shining in, shining through. Will's completely lit up by the light. Mike is now aware of his feelings for Will. The curtains are half-way drawn. He's at least taken a look behind them and does know what's on the other side, however, he's not sure if he wants to fully open or tear them down just yet. He's still a bit in the dark, not yet ready to let the light in and tell the truth.
