i was thinking about this before bed the other day and idk i wanted to try and articulate the thought as best as possible.
mona lisa and rebellion are two sides of the same coin, but i feel like mona lisa is the commercial version of rebellion.
like think about it like this: that 50 second snippet of rebellion that's out there and that one pap clip of britney driving off while playing the intro are DARK. they're gritty and they're eerie sounding. if we actually got rebellion on blackout, im not sure if it would have been a single or just an album track/cult favorite. like of course, a lot of things would have needed to go differently for that to have happened (i.e. the cship) but i really can't see rebellion as a track for radio. whereas mona lisa has a similar (albeit not the same) message and is more radio friendly, sonically speaking (besides britney literally leaking it to kiss fm herself). and honestly? it's prophetic too. not that im saying one track is better than the other, but GOD mona lisa predicts britney's future to a T and it's scarily accurate that i can only imagine what the final sound of rebellion was. even with the alleged confirmed lyrics that are online and the snippet we have like that does not read as a radio single in the slightest, that feels like a cult favorite album track.
and another thing: it is SO bizarre to me that mona lisa was included on the singles collection. like yeah, it's on chaotic, but that was released in 2005 and at a point where britney was as free as can be. for the cship team in 2009 already two years into the nightmare to allow mona lisa to be released again as a part of the singles collection is so wild to me. like i don't know if it's just me but it almost feels damning for them to approve it. like maybe a misdirect, like they assumed we wouldnt see the cship as a bad thing if they willingly allowed this song that's so self-aware about how the industry (and her team specifically) did not want to see britney succeed on her own terms. like a hiding in plain sight thing? but even still, wouldnt it make more sense for them to try and bury it? continue with the narrative that original doll never existed and Britney went rogue one night by herself and turn the narrative on her? it just confuses me. not to mention the prior use of the mona lisa moniker in do somethin' which was also pre-cship but after mona lisa the song was played on the radio. like it's all so confusing how these are all connected and yet such isolated events.
it's just all so interesting to me. like i wonder about if we had gotten rebellion and mona lisa was the lost track and if the demand and intrigue would be the same. i think because there's something darker and sinister almost about the way rebellion sounds and how stark of a contrast those lyrics are to anything else she's released there's a reason it's so sought after. and it's not like mona lisa's lyrics arent telling, they are, but sonically that darker grittier tone to rebellion is something unique compared to the instrumental of mona lisa like that instrumental comparatively doesn't feel as heavy, charged, and loaded as the snippet we have of rebellion. i think if the situation went exactly the same but with rebellion being the leaked KISS FM track instead of mona lisa it would have been silenced by team con AND wouldnt have been looked at twice by the GP.
i dont know what this is supposed to accomplish or justify but it's just something i've been sitting on for a while in my brain. the what ifs of life always get me especially with rebellion and britney's life and career. rebellion always intrigues me with all the baggage attached to it including but not limited to the death of one of the song's producers (may christopher "notes" olsen rest in peace). it fascinates me still that of all her songs that have leaked over the years that rebellion never has, despite someone allegedly having THE blackout demo cd that has the full song on it. it's just something i find fascinating that i wonder about a lot from time to time. 2007 could have gone in a COMPLETELY different direction and rebellion is the barest proof of that against all that's happened since.

i'm sure someone has pointed this out before but i love how strahm's response to the water cube trap and hoffman's response to the reverse bear trap add yet another parallel to their dynamic - they were both put in rigged traps and only survived because they cheated. they weren't games, there were no instructions or rules, they were just supposed to sit there and die - and they both went no, fuck you, i'm not going down that easy. it's so cool. in a franchise that is supposedly about appreciating your life, what better demonstration of that than two motherfuckers so stubborn they survive the unsurvivable?

1 Nephi Chapter 18, "The Founding."
Tumblr media
The ship is finished—The births of Jacob and Joseph are mentioned—The company embarks for the promised land—The sons of Ishmael and their wives join in revelry and rebellion—Nephi is bound, and the ship is driven back by a terrible tempest—Nephi is freed, and by his prayer the storm ceases—The people arrive in the promised land. About 591–589 B.C.
We advance two years and the decoded sequence number 592, רקע means "the Background" also "the Foundation."
The ship is crossing the Mediterranean "where one sees one's greatness", which is the only sea near Jerusalem, which means the arrival point is somewhere "on the other side of greatness" on the 8th day as we discussed in chapter 17.
There is a storm at sea and on the ark too. Both need to be contemplated away before the Promised Land will be achievable. This is indicated below as Nephi duels with rudeness of the Ishmaelites towards him with "sober speech."
The Ishmaelites are:
1. Nebaioth =the high places that were prophesied 2. Kedar= dark, turbid 3. Adbeel=servant of God 4. Mibsam= sweet smell, the perfumery 5. Mishma= hear, understand, obey 6. Dumah=deadly silence 7. Massa= to test or trial 8. Hadar= to ornament or honor 9. Tema= the Southern Country 10. Jetur= defense, he will border 11. Naphish= the soul, not a thing, an act 12. Kedemah= formerly eastward
="The high places where the former darkness cannot touch the servants of God who hear, comprehend and obey God are laced with the perfume of silence. Under the protection of the Southern Sun, the soul is tested, achieves victory and ornaments itself with honor."
1 And it came to pass that they did aworship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious bworkmanship. And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the cship.
=Jetur, this act of bordering the mind's contemplative recesses with prayer. "Your ark are the words of contemplation and prayer."
2 Now I, Nephi, did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did I build the ship after the manner of men; but I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men.
3 And I, Nephi, did go into the mount oft, and I did apray oft unto the Lord; wherefore the Lord bshowed unto me cgreat things.
4 And it came to pass that after I had finished the ship, according to the word of the Lord, my brethren beheld that it was good, and that the workmanship thereof was exceedingly fine; wherefore, they did ahumble themselves again before the Lord.
5 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came unto my father, that we should arise and go down into the ship.
6 And it came to pass that on the morrow, after we had prepared all things, much fruits and ameat from the wilderness, and honey in abundance, and provisions according to that which the Lord had commanded us, we did go down into the ship, with all our loading and our bseeds, and whatsoever thing we had brought with us, every one according to his age; wherefore, we did all go down into the cship, with our wives and our children.
Provisions are the tenets and practices of Judaism, which are of course kept in an ark. They prevent the world from falling prey to their inverse called "transgressions."
7 And now, my father had begat two sons in the wilderness; the elder was called aJacob and the younger bJoseph.
8 And it came to pass after we had all gone down into the ship, and had taken with us our provisions and things which had been commanded us, we did put forth into the asea and were driven forth before the wind towards the bpromised land.
Wind=
The phrase “He causes the wind (ruach) to blow” uses the same word as the verse “The spirit (ruach) of G‑d hovered on the surface of the waters,” and our sages say “This is the spirit of King Mashiach.”
“He causes the rain (geshem) to descend” means that the coming of Mashiach actually occurs, in physicality (gashmiut-related to geshem). Not only “the spirit of Mashiach,” but a soul in a body, i.e. Mashiach in the simple, literal sense in this physical world.
Moreover, “geshem” has the numerical value of 343, and this is connected to the prophecy that in the Messianic future “the light of the sun will be seven-fold as the light of the seven days.” Rashi paraphrases this as “seven sevens as the light of the seven days, i.e. forty-nine sevens, equalling three hundred forty-three.”
(Sichat Leil Simchat Torah 5746)
9 And after we had been adriven forth before the wind for the space of many days, behold, my brethren and the sons of Ishmael and also their wives began to make themselves merry, insomuch that they began to dance, and to sing, and to speak with much brudeness, yea, even that they did forget by what power they had been brought thither; yea, they were lifted up unto exceeding rudeness.
10 And I, Nephi, began to fear exceedingly lest the Lord should be angry with us, and smite us because of our iniquity, that we should be swallowed up in the depths of the sea; wherefore, I, Nephi, began to speak to them with much soberness; but behold they were aangry with me, saying: We will not that our younger brother shall be a bruler over us.
11 And it came to pass that Laman and Lemuel did take me and abind me with cords, and they did treat me with much harshness; nevertheless, the Lord did suffer it that he might show forth his power, unto the fulfilling of his word which he had bspoken concerning the wicked.
12 And it came to pass that after they had bound me insomuch that I could not move, the acompass, which had been prepared of the Lord, did cease to work.
=if the Ishmaelites and the Sage do not cooperate, the ark will become rudderless and the wind will do it no good:
13 Wherefore, they knew not whither they should steer the ship, insomuch that there arose a great astorm, yea, a great and terrible tempest, and we were bdriven back upon the waters for the space of three days; and they began to be frightened exceedingly lest they should be drowned in the sea; nevertheless they did not loose me.
14 And on the fourth day, which we had been driven back, the tempest began to be exceedingly sore.
15 And it came to pass that we were about to be swallowed up in the depths of the sea. And after we had been driven back upon the waters for the space of four days, my brethren began to asee that the judgments of God were upon them, and that they must perish save that they should repent of their iniquities; wherefore, they came unto me, and loosed the bands which were upon my wrists, and behold they had swollen exceedingly; and also mine ankles were much swollen, and great was the soreness thereof.
16 Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did apraise him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions.
17 Now my father, Lehi, had said many things unto them, and also unto the sons of aIshmael; but, behold, they did breathe out much threatenings against anyone that should speak for me; and my parents being bstricken in years, and having csuffered much grief because of their dchildren, they were brought down, yea, even upon their sick-beds.
18 Because of their grief and much sorrow, and the iniquity of my brethren, they were brought near even to be carried out of this time to meet their God; yea, their agrey hairs were about to be brought down to lie low in the dust; yea, even they were near to be cast with sorrow into a watery grave (= the end of violence, on Day 2).
Grey hairs represent respect for God:
"Rise before the hoary head, and honor the face of the elderly, and fear your G-d, I am HaShem."
From Vayikra.
19 And Jacob and Joseph "the follower and the most fruitful" also, being young, having need of much nourishment, were grieved because of the afflictions of their mother; and also amy wife with her tears and prayers, and also my children, did not soften the hearts of my brethren that they would loose me.
20 And there was nothing save it were the power of God, which threatened them with destruction, could soften their ahearts; wherefore, when they saw that they were about to be swallowed up in the depths of the sea they repented of the thing which they had done, insomuch that they loosed me.
21 And it came to pass after they had loosed me, behold, I took the compass, and it did work whither I desired it. And it came to pass that I aprayed unto the Lord; and after I had prayed the winds did cease, and the storm did cease, and there was a great calm.
22 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did guide the ship, that we sailed again towards the promised land.
23 And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the apromised land; and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents; and we did call it the promised land.
24 And it came to pass that we did begin to till the earth, and we began to plant seeds; yea, we did put all our aseeds into the earth, which we had brought from the land of Jerusalem. And it came to pass that they did grow exceedingly; wherefore, we were blessed in abundance.
25 And it came to pass that we did find upon the land of promise, as we journeyed in the wilderness, that there were abeasts in the forests of every kind, both the cow and the ox, and the ass and the horse, and the goat and the wild goat, and all manner of wild animals, which were for the use of men. And we did find all manner of bore, both of cgold, and of silver, and of copper.
Cows and oxes are clergy. "spiritual leaders". Oxen represent the strength of will needed to learn the Torah. The taming of the Ox is a hallmark of civilized life. Oxen and asses are naturally at odds.
Asses are exaggerated egos.
Horses are strength courage and beauty
Goats and wild goats are boys and wild boys.
"all for the use of men."
Ores are from Exodus 25:3:
3And this is the offering that you shall take from them: gold, silver, and copper;
Gold= the grace of God
Silver= the humanity of men
Copper=Copper is "snake-metal", a substance that recalls the stubborn impudence of the Primordial Snake's denial of G‑d.
I will conclude this portion of the Midrash with a quote from Vayera:
“After civilization was established and government, education and agriculture were in full bloom, the means by which the God of Compassion guarantees freedom, with fire [the Torah and the congregation of the House of God],  was used against wild men, untamed as if they were wild oxes and the village was secured.
Virgins of God who reside in  His House must be secured and put to the knife [the hard edge of a penis] if they are to enter the Citadel, the Highest State, the shedding of all tears due to violence and oppression is to end, and the village is to be safe and subject to God.”
