this is in specific reference to things like cream tea but is not limited to any specific type of pastry (scone, toast, croissant, etc), dairy product (cream, butter, cheese, etc--also includes dairy-replacements), or type of preserves (jam, jelly, marmalade, etc)

Note
I heard that Mimble puts the cream on his scone before the jam!
He certainly does. Doing otherwise is a filthy Nymian habit unbecoming of a Gentleman.

(Scone politics is a serious business, at least on the better side of the Tamar)

York Stopover 2. Plane Sailing
Sleep proved difficult in the stiflingly claustrophobic tiny bedroom.  Kitchen machinery humming and glass bottles smashing into bins at 6.30 a.m. didn’t help but ensured we rose in time for a typically over-filling and early English breakfast.  The main reason for staying in York being to visit the Yorkshire Air Museum, we discovered another advantage to the enforced start – a scarce bus was due…

I'd never thought I'd be that person who is actively looking for those "Free Dirt" signs on the side of the road.
Also my garden hobbit phase is lowkey inspiring me to skip Logan's story and write Thomas' because he's a gremlin gardener who's high key over protective of his kitchen garden for certain reasons~

Ok so, like most people, I have Strong Opinions on the right way to eat a cream tea. I favour the Cornish method: scone, spread with jam, clotted cream on top. My partner, on the other hand, insists on the Devon method: cream first, jam on top. We are both convinced that the other person is Wrong.
However, we realised tonight that neither of us has ever tried the other method.
I guess, to me, the Cornish method is so obviously right that I didn't need to try the Devon method? But my partner thought exactly the same about the Devon method!
So tonight, we each prepared scones our preferred way, and swapped. And you know, I can see merits in the Devon method. It is easier to spread jam on top of cream than the other way around, and you get more even coverage. But I still think, for flavour and the sensory experience, the Cornish method is better.
And.
My partner agreed.
We've been together for 15 years, and he's always insisted on the Devon method (when we've had or talked about cream teas, which admittedly isn't often). But tonight, he did a major thing. He tried something new. He changed his mind.
Which makes me think: isn't there hope for us all? Couldn't we get Biden and Putin together, over some scones, and help them see that sometimes you can be mistaken without even knowing it? That it might just take seeing someone else's perspective, and trying something new? And that, most importantly, for the past 15 years, you have been wrong and your girlfriend is right and is therefore right about everything ever.

Jam in tiny jars is the best jam. Grocery store toppings just cannot compete, so I smuggled some stateside. Couldn't resist finishing off one of the jams though

Also, did not realize the king & the skater's inspiration was still showing! Wish I could've gotten tickets.
