Compton Boole Beeswax:

Earlier today I was thinking about Compton's Cookoff, and I have a Crackpot Theory-slash-Headcanon: the four animals that help Raz prepare the meals are all based on other people from Compton's life.

Pork Chopper is based on his father, a police officer (i.e. a pig) who Compton remembers as being very 'tough' with him, encouraging him to fight back against bullies ("they'll be much nicer once you've put 'em through the slicer!"). Their relationship deteriorated once Compton got involved with the Animal Liberation movement, eventually deciding he was 'sick in the head' after blowing up those animals with his mind - something Compton apparently agrees with, as Pork Chopper calling the hosts 'sick' is portrayed as an attack of conscience. Compton still has positive memories of him and may have wished to reconcile, going from Chopper's sudden turn for the upbeat (in contrast with Butch Oleander who was portrayed as a monster).

Frog Flipper is his son - and the father of Dogen and Sam - a high-strung, nervous, overworked individual ("I gotta pull a double shift?!") who tries to stay positive but always seem on the verge of flipping out. Compton had to raise him fresh off the heels of losing everything in the fight against Maligula, an experience comparable to trying to fry an egg over a constantly-moving fire. Later, his son came to him for guidance on how to manage Sam and especially Dogen, only to be pushed away - by then Compton had isolated himself and believed his advice would only make things worse. He'd ultimately turned his son into the same parent he had been.

Patty Puree is his ex-wife and the mother of his son. Compared to Cassie, who he saw as a friend and someone he could approach, his relationship with his wife was far more uneven - she'd always seemed like a high-and-mighty figure, well beyond his reach (hence why she's the hardest to get to), who carried herself with a regal air. He convinced himself trying to reach out to her would just end with his hand getting blended into paste. In the end, he thinks, she only married him out of pity and to help raise their child. The fact she divorced him once their son became an adult only confirms that for him.

Hippo Pot I'm not so sure about, since he only has one line and it isn't anything especially noteworthy. My best guess is that he's an old partner-in-crime from Compton's Animal Liberation days, someone reliable who kept him focused and relaxed, hence why the ingredients relax while boiling... but they are still boiling, and Compton believes he can never relax, otherwise he'll boil over.

The fact that all four of them are involved in Ram It Down but never actively judge him like the Ford, Hollis and Otto stand-ins do suggest that, to some extent, he's 'moved on' from them and doesn't care so much about their judgment specifically. However, he still can't forget them, so they're relegated to side-roles in his mental game show. This also shows that, despite everything, a part of him wanted to move on even before Raz arrived, he just gave him a push in the right direction. Tellingly, they're still on the set if Raz comes back to the level later, unlike all the Judges.

Favourite one in the first game is Black Velvetopia. Favourite in the second one is Bob's Bottles and Compton's Cookoff. Also the last level.

The idea of Frazie being a player character/assistant to Raz in Compton's Cookoff is making me crazy rn. Kind of obsessed with how much Tim Schafer apparently loves Frazie. I totally understand. And I would love to see more of her dynamic with Raz, I think it says something really important.

looking at that gross levels poll and im glad the game updated its content warning page to include the emetophobia but im also like damn makes me sad to think comptons cookoff mightve been a deterent for a lot of people 😫 esp bc I grew to really like Compton's level after playing the game bc of how weird it is. youd expect the animal talking man to have an animal themed level but no! cooking show! very interesting !!!

Something i'm not adding to your good compton post directly bc i dont feel sure if i remember it right and so it'd need a fact check: i can swear that when its time to chop up the pig audience member for the honey pepper pancakes that theres the chance they have a dialgoue with the pork chopper along the lines of confirming theyre related (grandpa and grandchild if i remember right). in my head ive always taken that to mean "oh i see, the pig (audience) is sam"

and something abt the audience ingredients themselves being a kind of stand in either for comptons grandkids or like the other ppl/ employees at the motherlobe always gave me pause and i like expanding that line of thought to all the other appliances as well

That is true! I had thought about that but I wasn't sure how I could work it into my weird headcanon. My initial thought was that if Pork Chopper is supposed to be Compton's dad, then that was like a memory of some meeting he once had with his grandson (i.e. Sam and Dogen's dad), in which Compton got both barrels of judgment from both people.

I like the idea that the audience members are his grandkids and/or other Psychonaut agents - because they don't know him as well (yes, he beats himself up over not knowing his own grandkids because of course he does, the poor guy) his mind turns them into audience members for his judgment - not directly involved, just there to gawk. Though the fact that they're used as ingredients throws a wrench into things. Unless that's like a metaphor for them joining in. Or maybe Compton using them to cook dishes is supposed to be him 'fighting back', only for it to escalate everything. Either way works. :V

Compton Boole Personality Theory (Psychonauts 2)

HERE IT IS. COMPTON BOOLE PERSONALITY THEORY IS HERE AT LAST. I would like to begin with the fact that this theory uses evidence that is proposed from a different theory I have written: the Psychonauts 2 music theory. I will link this at the bottom of the post.

Compton Boole Personality theory. Allow me to propose a theory regarding beloved Psychonaut character Compton Boole. Throughout the events of Psychonauts 2, we weren't exposed to much of Compton Boole's personality, as he was ridden with anxiety and was unable to act how he naturally would. We got hints of his true personality through his actions and memories of him in collective memory reels. But have we been exposed to a hidden part of his personality obscured and dismissed by his surface level kindness? What might Compton have been like in the past, or if he could act without trying to protect himself the way he has? To begin, after completing videogame Psychonauts 2, we have access to speak to all the characters in the game post completion. When speaking to him post game, Compton jokes about eating goats. How funny. This is clearly a form of dark humour. This sort of manner of speaking would not resurge itself suddenly for no reason. This fact proves that Compton has a history of telling and communicating with dark humour. Additionally, when speaking to Compton for the first time in the game's story, and quitting his conversation after asking for help with the mole, Compton gives a sarcastic remark, saying "tsk, if you say so" (I actually forgot exactly what he says but it's ALONG THE LINES). Secondly, according to Psychonauts 2 Music Theory (Sad Mission), the genres of music in levels and inside minds correspond to the character's previous exposure or history with the genre of music. Through the level Compton's Cookoff, it is understandable and believable how Compton may have been exposed to old game show music through his upbringing, leading him to manifest similar music to cover the theme of Ram it Down. However, the interest lies during the end of Compton's Cookoff. During the boss of the level, the level plays music that can confidently be categorized in the genre of Metal. Music in a level can correspond to a character's history, prior exposure, or sentimentality. Music would not resurge due to prior exposure from exposure alone, because the goats themselves have no connection to metal as a genre to begin with, so you can discount that as reason for the music. The connection of history is used only when a setting highlights the setting's past, without any purposeful inclination to the genre. Because the boss fight is not a peer into Compton's past, we can discount that as a reason for the genre. I believe the music on the boss fight is metal because of sentimentality. I believe I can confidently conclude this shows that Compton Does, or more likely Used to listen to metal. Lastly, Compton's favourite colour is purple, and purple is an edgy colour. This is no debate. I conclude this because, in his isolation (or past), Compton Boole sat down and LEARNED how to make his teleport all pretty. nobody else has done this!! ONLY COMPTON, presumably during all the time he spent in ompton jail, and made it purple. Additionally, the walls of his cell are bright purple-pink (magenta), a colour I believe only an enjoyer of the colour purple would not go insane looking at. He is a purple man I sense it. On the same note, he has purposely trained himself to ornate his teleportation ability with a crt-esque / glitch effect.

Tagging in after this was published for a small addition to the EVIDENCE of this. I keep replaying the game and I keep my full trust in this theory. This is super small and weak, but just the plethora of early images of Compton with smug expressions. Love you man stay strong #girlsforever

According to my three (now four) pieces of evidence, his use of dark humour and sarcasm, Compton's history of being a listener of metal, and a like for purple, the edgiest colour, and his edgy teleport effect, I can conclude that Compton Boole is edgy. Compton Boole is not as single faceted as his simple, kind, and caring facade leads you to believe. That he infact has a side to some of his true tastes hidden beyond the surface level.
