Forgive me for transposing my tags on my reblog to the ask box but I totally agree with your post about Myne's age and her perception of her “peers”! And then THE VERY SAME PEOPLE turn around and say “ohhhh Sylvester is so terrible for not parenting her not treating her like a child!!!” Like. Dude. PICK A LANE.

I think it's insanely interesting how she views people in relation to herself because it's not so simple as “oh she sees her peers as children because she's mentally an adult” when it's just. Not true?? I don't think we get concrete proof that she does. She sees Eglantine for example as older despite Myne+Urano combo age being most definitely elder.

FerMyne is a very good ship but I think people (especially on Discord, my fucking god) shut down other ships in an instant using this as a bludgeon.

Anyways I hope you don't mind me sending this ask, I've been following along your posts about AoB's trope/genre subversions and the breakdown of Yurgenschmidt's hypocrisies. You're so big-brained for it, whenever I see a particularly rancid take from somewhere else I come back to your posts to cleanse my brain.

Rozemyne is an interesting character bcs, If you’ve noticed, she rarely states who she loves and likes until it’s absolutely necessary for her to do it.

Even with her family, she starts showing affection but it isn’t until she has a near death experience that she becomes very vocal about how much she loves them. With Ferdinand, it isn’t until he’s set to leave for Ahrensbach that she vocally states how much he means to her. Even with Lestilaut, she states that his sudden proposal was opening a can of worms she didn’t want to open.

While she doesn’t lie when she has noted someone is important to her, she takes a while to admit it.

Also, her way of defining “love” has very little romantic connotations, and oftentimes just falls in an ambiguous “family”.

Saying that age is the only reason why she wouldn’t consider someone as romantic interest, is greatly reducing her character. There’s like at least five things that would come first than age - hell Ferdinand checks all the boxes and she STILL doesn’t see him in a romantic light (as of now at least)

Also, and this more important to me, is fucking rude.

People are allowed to ship whatever they want, regardless of what canon says. So pulling the “but they said x in canon!” is like spoiling the fun for everyone for the sake of a rigid moral compass that blocks you from even exploring the characters in interesting ways.

Fandom is about having fun, exploring rships and encouraging others to have a say in what they think of characters!

If you have a genuine insight into characters, sure! Share it, expand on it. But using the tired and useless “she said x therefore she won’t see them as romantic therefore shut it all down” is just, stifling. It screams horrible fandom etiquette

That said, I’m very happy that you like my essays! I try to put my thoughts in order and sometimes I take days to write them, so it means a lot to me.

Oh for fuck's sake. Please don't tell me "warning" discourse is coming back.

Look guys, I don't fucking care if you decide to use warnings or not. If you're an author who chooses not to use warnings, I may or may not read your fic, depending on my mood at any given time, but that's not a value judgment.

But can you not be a pretentious asshole about it?

"Books and movies don't have warnings!"

Really? Movies don't have warnings? What do you think that big "R" is on the advertisement there (if you're American, anyway, but as far as I know, most other countries use rating systems.) It might not be an explicit, spell-it-all out warning, but you're generally not going to see a graphic rape scene in a fucking PG movie.

Books? Generally no. Though there are exceptions. And many bloggers or goodreads reviewers will happily warn for readers who are concerned. That said, you can draw some conclusions based on genre, publisher and imprint. A romance reader generally knows where to find the really hard shit. You're not generally going to find a lot of strap ons or ball gags in Harlequin.

That's a fucking lie. I started reading fanfic on the internet in 1997, when I was young enough that I had to lie about my age to get onto the good mailing lists. And you know why they were the good mailing lists? Because they had explicit stuff. Because they had passwords to the best archives.

And those archives generally did have warnings! At least for the really big shit. Rape? Torture? The phrase "non-con" existed long before fanfiction.net, let alone AO3 was a twinkling in anyone's eye.

Because here's the thing, it's common courtesy. Fandom is a community experience. Isn't that what everyone always says when the topic of negative reviews come up? We can't make the author feel bad! Traumatizing a reader though with something that they don't know to avoid though, that's perfectly fine.

What AO3 DID invent, as far as I know, is the brilliant "Author chooses not to warn" tag. That's a great idea. It means that a concerned reader can go through the no warnings needed tag with reasonable confidence that they won't be hit with the most common triggering subjects. And if they go into a "chooses not to warn" fic, then that's their risk to take.

(Personally, I've never read a "choose not to warn" fic and thought "god, I'm so glad the author didn't spoil this rape scene in the warnings, losing the element of surprise would have ruined the story!" but that's just me. There might well be one out there, and even if not, it's the author's call.)

I don't really have a point to this rant. I just really dislike people who decide to raise their lack of consideration for others into some sort of intellectual high ground while touting blatant misinformation to support it. I also never get tired of ranting about fandom hypocrisy, so there we go.

TLDR: do what you want, but don't be a self-congratulatory dick about it.

Kae, actually I saw this one person rbing stupid callout posts about aging up and noncon on their writing account where they have their mutuals ( with tags calling DC writers disgusting etc ). Then later I saw them sending appreciation ask from their main to dark content blog about one of their dark fics. It was noncon and stepcest.. not sure. The audacity 😭😭. Most of these people just want to stick with the crowd. Actually they can just not stick with anyone right. Like just ignore the callout posts instead of rbing them while actually consuming DC. Some of those discourse posters themselves consume DC too. It just brings us to one conclusion that they love attention and love painting themselves as a "good person" .

oh god—the hypocrisy is unparalleled. it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how they wrestle with their public persona and their internal desires since they’re at such odds. at the end of the day, i guess they want to come across as a morally pure person—as though fiction carries any real-world, moral consequences. and their moral “superiority” apparently allows them to harass others, spread vile rumors and hatred, and overall be a shitty person. it’s just laughably, truly.

So I don’t understand the people getting so angry over fanfic writers aging up Neteyam bc his actor is 22, na’vi mature faster than humans, and he is literally 8 feet tall and looks like an adult! Plus aging him up makes it the opposite of creepy to me.

It also confuses me because there are a lot of fanfics about characters like spider-man (when he is in high school) with smut, and no one says anything because the actors are adults. Or stranger things characters who are canonically below 18, but their actor is like 30 lmao. (Also these fanfics are fine, I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy)

I would understand if his actor was 15 irl, or if he looked like a 15 year old boy, but come on it’s AN 8 FOOT TALL BLUE CAT ALIEN 💀 ur writing is so good babes! pls do not let these idiots bother you with their insults toward you

8 common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

I’ll start of by saying that I’m not one who wants to police other people’s interpretations of the text. BUT I will say this: Jon is not a below average swordsman! He’s not even average. He may not have many on page feats, but he’s only been in less than a handful of serious fights and they were against middle aged men with decades of experience over him. People like to bring up his loss to Mance, but this fight was against a man who managed to unite the wildling tribes under his rule; Mance is a highly skilled warrior.

Remember, Jon is 15-16 years old when most of these fights are happening. So he’s still young and growing. People will also say “oh, but Jaime Lannister was a god at that age”. Honestly, who cares? How many characters are comparable to Jaime at any age? It’s such a dumb comparison. I’ve even seen people argue that a 13 year old Peck is better than Jon and huh? Jon hasn’t won over any knights….because he’s not encountering them in the first place.

It’s clear that GRRM holds Jon’s skill in high regard. I mean the first Jon POV chapter established him as a noted swordsman. It also clear that Jon isn’t meant to be the warrior type. He’s a deconstruction of the archetypal fantasy protagonist. GRRM has chosen to build his political skills, so he’s not putting much of a focus on how well he swings his sword. That doesn’t mean though that he doesn’t have any skill at all. Just that it’s not the main focus of his character. But I think this fandom generally has the most wretched discourse when it comes to this stuff. Like people on Reddit this past week tried to argue that Brienne is overrated…Brienne, of all people. It’s just insane to me that people think they know more than the guy who wrote the damn books.

13 worst blorboficiation

Has got to be Kevan Lannister. Not so much on tumblr, but it’s a disease in some of the other communities. For whatever reason, he’s quite beloved. And this is rather strange because he is very much complicit in the corrupt Lannister regime. And as far as we know, he’s also fully supported Tywin in everything (which includes legitimate war crimes). He has his moments where he is shown to actually care for family members (e.g., Lancel, Tyrion), and that makes him a delightfully complex character. He’s also really funny. But we shouldn’t ignore his really bad traits. I’ve had to suffer a bunch of “Kevan Lannister is the best guy ever” posts on Reddit, and it’s absolutely maddening. That’s not to say that we can’t like “bad” people! Heck, Cersei is one of my faves. But it’s weird how certain characters get a pass for doing problematic things (e.g., Kevan or even Bobby B), and other characters get lambasted for the most tame things imaginable. It’s just the hypocrisy that’s annoying.

Powerscaling lol. It can be fun, but the people who engage in these discussions can be so tedious and boring. Tiktok and Reddit are full of this. “Who is the greatest fighter”, “who is the best warrior”, “this is why prime Robert low diffs Barristan Selmy”, and it’s the same old arguments every time. I think we should get more creative with powerscaling if we have to do it. Like “who has the best 🛌 skills”. Let’s at least argue over something fun, damn.

22 your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

This is going to be twofold:

- On tumblr? Easily Jon’s relationship with magic. In fact, people on here will go out of their way to argue that it’s actually not important to the plot, which is absolutely bonkers. Beyond warging, there’s a lot of weird magical stuff going on with Jon that should be put under the microscope. And I’d even argue that Jon’s a pretty special warg and cannot be compared to the other Stark kids (even Bran) because of how his powers manifest. Ghost is also obviously one of the most special animal familiars in the series (maybe even THE most special one), but no one ever talks about how special he is. A lot of people seem to believe that Jon will be KiTN, but it’s insane how we don’t talk about why it’s magically important for him to rule the North, considering his deep connections to Northern mysticism, religion, and lore.

- Elsewhere: the parallels between Jon and Bran. They’re essentially the same character base split into two (Seoman Snowlack, Frodo, King Arthur, Paul and Leto Atreides, Odin, etc). Both arcs parallel each other and are heading to the same destination, but the details will be different. This is getting to my last point, but I firmly believe we’re getting an ending with both King Jon and King Bran. I like to think of them as two competing but complementary sides of King Arthur’s tale. Jon is the one that is true to legend, as he follows the archetypal hidden prince-to-king trope. Jon is essentially “what if Arthur actually went on his hero’s/knightly quest?”Bran is the subverted one, where young Arthur gets a little detour; so “what if Arthur didn’t go on the hero’s/knightly quest but instead had to take up a job as a part time wizard?” Both will end up kings, just as Arthur did, but it will be different versions of the legend.

- Also: WTF is up with the Watch/Wall? What magic was used to build the Wall and who built it? Why can’t dragons cross? And why can’t wights cross either? What magic dictates that? What’s up with the Nightfort? Why does one only need to say part of the vows to open the gate? And what’s up with the NW vows? Why do they give Lightbringer vibes?! Is the NW Lightbringer? The NW is directly credited with the ending of the Long Night so was the last hero a member of the original group? Who was he? What happened to him after? If the last hero inspired AA then did the NW (and their vows) inspire tales of his flaming sword? And why did the relationship between the Watch and the CoF fizzle out? When did it fizzle out? And who are the LCs whose tenures have not been recorded? Why did they only start recording in the 600s (iirc)? What other history has been lost over time? Who was the Night King? Where did his half-human children go? Need that old man to answer these stat

25 common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

Several people will block me for this…but King Bran. Look, I get that Bran isn’t the most popular character out there. But so many people convinced themselves that he would die in that cave or he would amount to nothing which is very, very strange. And it also doesn’t help that a lot of the complaints reek of ableism.

GRRM obviously considers Bran to be central to this series. He is the first viewpoint character (and potentially the last one). He is the most magical character in the story. The scene that birthed ASOIAF came about because of Bran. It’s also said that GRRM considered writing the books through Bran’s POV but decided against it pretty quickly.

Anyone who paid attention to Bran’s story would know that we’re going to get some huge payoff to his story. In fact, I think it’s safer to assume that kingship has always been in the cards for him. I think most of us Bran stans thought he’d be KiTN (actually some of us over at Westeros.org thought he’d end up as the final Lord of Harrenhal). I never once considered King of all Westeros but I’ve had time to think about it ever since the show ended and I’m like, “duh!”. It’s thematically relevant and sound for Bran to end up king. We’re about to enter into a winter apocalypse but Bran’s direwolf is called Summer. Not only is he the representation of summer (which means renewal, rejuvenation, etc.), but he’s also fashioned after the Fisher King. He is also the second coming of Brandon the Builder - who constructed castles all over Westeros, not just the North; and if legends are true, this happened after the Long Night. He’s following after the footsteps of the Last Hero, and is the only other character apart from Jon who is actually fighting in the front lines against the Others. He’s going to be super important!

I can understand some of the questions people having regarding King Bran, mainly those of a political nature. But we’re left with two books. And two books is plenty to move the necessary pieces for Bran’s crowning. Hell, did people expect that Dany would be Queen of Meereen as they started reading ASOS? Most didn’t. A lot can happen in two books. A lot can happen in a singular book. GRRM has enough time to set up a scenario on which Bran is the only one left to rule.

I personally think that the apocalypse will essentially destroy Westeros as we know it, leading to the creation of a new kingdom(s). D&D botched the GoT ending so people have a hard time seeing the thematic weight of a boy who represents summer rising to kingship, but the books lay enough groundwork imo. And I think ACOK shows us that Bran, despite his age, would make a wise ruler. So I’m all for King Bran. Not only is it thematically sound, but I love the idea of a disabled kid rising to power at the end since we don’t see that in a lot of fantasy.

But his temper is too quick and his demeanor too curmudgeon for it to simmer properly and implant doubt in Kadira's mind when he speaks, "You would very well know, you were the one to abide he and his cultists’ escape into the ruins of Kenabras."

An irony, considering the goddess and her fleeting nature, "They are by no means a cult and within my investigation of the Wardstones, by personally speaking to the angels that agreed to be bound there, Ramien and his keep did nothing to corrupt the wardstone."

"Dear girl-" He began.

"Knight Commander."

"Knight Commander, you were not there when the Red Morning Massacre happened-"

No. But my grandmother had to scramble with her family into horse stalls and their manure out of sheer abject horror, because she saw the results of what happens when demons don't kill. She's dust and spirit now, old man.

"-when Minagho spilled blood of innocent on the Wardstone-"

"Well, obviously the Wardstone wasn't much helpful if Minagho was able to breach into Kenabras." She cut in quickly, a part of her ashamed for correcting an elder, another part reminding herself she was an elder. "I don't see how the blood could have made things worse, she was already inside."

The older man blinked hard, those white whiskers quivering with indignation and mild shock. How often did he tell this story to the Inquisitors? Was this the first time someone pointed out the inconsistency of that story to him?

"He is still guilty of breaking and entering, Knight Commander." His tone is sharp as a knife, and Kadira felt pressure behind her temples. "As such-"

"And as such, he was made Prelate when you were made a General, seeing he is the highest ranking Priest that managed to live through the siege. If you have disagreements with his placement, Queen Galfrey is in Drezen, as you well know. I am not to give up a guest, regardless if Ramien was Prelate or not. Hospitality is an ancient rite, far older than Desna or Iomeade, and I will not break it because you disagree with your Queen."

There was a twitch in his eyebrow. "I see." He didn’t see, Kadira knew that he couldn’, but Kadira also knew he was loyal to Galfrey in all things. "I will... I will speak to her majesty and return to you when time permits."

The general turned on his heel, his boots clacked sharply on the floor of the headquarters, his gaze flashing black at Regill who watched silently the entire time, and strode out of the War Room with the red of his cloak trailing after him.

At the sound of the door shutting behind him, Kadira felt her body completely relax as a sigh left her, as if strings were cut on a puppet. Her forehead hit the table and her vision was veiled by her hair for a moment.

"May I inquire with you, Commander?" The heavier tones of Regill's voice was almost like a blessing as she turned her head against the table, her eyes falling upon the Paralictor who sat not quite at her current level.

"Yes," No, not really. But she was remarkably proud that Regill hadn't slide in like a knife into the brief conversation. He tended to do so in more informal occasions, but within the war room he waited before committing verbal vivisection of someone in Galfrey's court.

(Both he and Daeran shared that lovely hobby, but never managed to bond over it.)

"Does Hulrun truly expect you to believe he witnessed an event that occurred when I was not quite middle aged?" The gnome retains his hawklike sharpness, the disdain set more by brows and tone than truly changing his expression. "An event Queen Galfrey was not yet quite a woman for?"

Kadira shrugged, though she supposed with her almost prone position of her cheek against the table made it hard to see. Rather, she lifted her hands and mimicked the gesture. "My grandmother was still a girl and hadn't met my grandfather. It was a threat she'd give me and my cousins if we didn't behave properly. ‘If you don’t stop climbing those walls, Kadira Staradottir, Minagho is going to splash your innards on the statute of Iomedae!’" She paused for a moment to think, “I believe the former Prelate is only a few years younger than me, chronologically speaking. I'm surprised you're not questioning his sanity."

"I'm questioning his efficiency in his methods of discipline,." Regill dryly answered, turning back to his paperwork.

Somehow, Kadira thinks, that's even worse.

Jotting down story ideas, frog and toad (II)

Try to write an internal monologue from frogs pov:

Well.. todays another day of not really doing much. I hope bunny comes over soon. Man, I am so exhausted.. why? I haven't done much of anything in such a long time. Maybe I too should visit some old friends. I also need to go out and tend to the garden, its starting to overgrow. I am also pretty hungry and should go hunting soon. I really dont like hunting the snails and bugs I eat, but it was what i was taught. What else can i eat? The larvae inventory is running low, I'll have to figure it out soon. Takes a nap

Notes:

Because I've noted that frog lives alone, the monologue that spewed out of my brain naturally came up with a survival-based thought process. The frog is concerned about food, and the morality of it. The frog is concerned about household tidyness and their mental health. The frog is exhausted from living day-to-day on their own while some peers can still rely on their parents at this age. I'm not sure I want to include money problems or not in this universe. I feel it may subtract from the story.

I have to finish up my chores quickly because they want me to watch my younger siblings again while they go out. I don't understand.. couldn't they just ask a friend of theirs to do it? All of my other friends who are like me have already been able to move out on their own, why am I stuck here still? I feel so uncomfortable, like I'm being squeezed tightly. Like I'm unable to breathe. I'm so tired, and I just want to stop feeling like this. I love my younger siblings but this isn't right. I should be out there doing my own thing, and exploring. My whole life I've been catering to other people and worrying about everyone but myself. I'm sick of it. I'm leaving tonight.

Note: I just realized bunnies ALSO are supposed to be on their own early on in life, so it makes even MORE sense that bunnys guardians are definitely being overbearing and helicoptery

Thank god he's still here, and its his duty anyways. His job is to help us take care of the family because he owes us for his upbringing. I've had an inkling that he's sneaking out at night, and I should squash it as soon as possible. Its his fault for sneaking out, and if we catch him we'll make sure to punish him thoroughly. When he was younger he always dreamed of exploring. Ha!! Imagine that.. he doesn't even realize how fragile he is, or how dangerous it is out there. And he doesn't care either. Thats why we're here to protect his from those dangerous creatures, especially his old "friend." Frog doesn't care about him, frog is just using him for his own gain.

idk where this go yet (i lie, i do) but here's a not so small preview of ATFB far in the plot bc i just wrote that scene (who writes chronologically anyway):

"What is this place? I have never been here."

"Do you see that mountains range over there?" Mairon gestures toward his left, "From there to the hills behind the river is a piece of the ancient lands of Old." He cannot prevent the soft nostalgic smile, "A remnant of Almaren, untouched by the Shadow. The last piece of my first Home."

Darker memories of the fall of the Lamps and the First Age arise swiftly despite the fond memories it brings to think of Almaren but he makes a conscious effort to remain in the present.

"The earth here is older than Endóre, tread with caution. It carries memories."

Readjusting his grip on Amarëa he resumes walking through the glade, the blades of silver grass gently dancing in the breeze. The silence here was loud to Mairon's ears. The land was ancient and recognised one of her maker, it sings in an old melody coaxing long stiffled yearning from him.

"You believe we could be safe here?"

He ponders his answer for a minute before settling for the truth. Always, as he has promised her. Turning to the Elf by his side he sighs and shakes his head,

"I cannot tell. Melkor never bothered with these parts but he had power over all the matter of Ambar." Knowledge Mairon had once offered in his naivety and love for the God. He looks towards the still slumbering Amarëa and forces himself to come up with a more satisfying answer. Or plan at the very least. Going back to Ossë empty handed was out of the question. For his own sanity more than his pride.

"But the Orcs and others creatures of his making have no knowledge of these lands. It should offer us enough reprieve." For now.

Oh i mentioned the scene with Uinen I had to take out in PYL, I wont post the entire scene as it is LONG lol but here's a few lines:

These were times she disliked to remember, Ossë had been under constant supervision by both Ulmo and Manwë until he regained both their trusts and Uinen - even if eternally glad to have him back - had wanted to confront their King at the hypocrisy of it all, was it not Manwë who succumbed to his brother’s deceit as well, why was he not punished? such dark thoughts had climaxed upon the Aqualondë’s slaughter by Fëanor, she remembered the helplessness of such heinous crimes , paradise soiled by eldar blood and in her anguish she had awoken a mighty storm and sunk many of the Noldor’s ships.

Uinen had not been proud of it, she had broken into tears at the lingering taste of her own darkness, had felt her own fëa shook with the revelation at how easy it had been to give in into that power. Maybe it had been this reason why after the War of the Powers and the casting of Morgoth through the door of the Night, Ossë and her had then spent most of their time around Númenor.

When the scarred spirit of Mairon was sensed approaching the Enchanted Islands Ulmo had raged, sent Ossë to deal with Morgoth’s lieutenant but she had pleaded with them to show restraints, hasn’t Aulë shown mercy to Ossë? Should they not extend this to Aulendil? For instead of a vengeful spirit Uinen saw only someone who had given up not only on himself but on others, someone who would not allow mercy for his own ravaged soul. Mairon’s fire had been put out, a small candle - barely there - flickering in the chasm of his darkened spirit. For every step he took he stumbled through the shadows clinging to every rough edge of his soul.

I feel lonelier than I remember ever feeling before. This evening, L cited a few recent events as evidence of my general negative attitude. A said I've been malcontent. I felt hurt, incredulity, and resignation, because a) this isn't new; I've been feeling this way for ages, b) I've been talking about feeling this way for ages, and c) they hadn't put it together at all that what they're seeing are symptoms of the bigger issue that I've already identified and talked about.

I've been in this job for over four years now. I'm currently in the middle of week two of my last two remaining weeks of vacation for this year. This job has taken over my life and it's been absolutely mind numbing. I talk about exhausted I am, about how much pain I'm in throughout, how much hypocrisy I have to endure, how much effort it takes me to fucking do this shit everyday. I talk about how I want a new job, for months. I talk about how I need to leave.

And like, whatever. I know i move slower than some glaciers. I know it takes me five millennia to make a decision and then another six to commit to it. But like lmao. For it to seem like it's a recent issue and not a long time coming? I'm appalled.

The only reason you think that it's recent at all is because it's only recently that you've been free enough to even look my way and notice something's off. You're both done with school now. You're at the best place in your lives you've ever been, and my unhappiness is polluting your joy.

So what do you want me to do? If you're asking me to shut the fuck up, I can do that. You only talk to me when you need something anyway.

Leave me alone like you have been. I'll stay in my compartment, while you stay in yours, and we'll all be happy.

Also, it's like every time I express an opinion, it's oh so surprising that it's not 100% positive or favourable at all times. What is that even about? I have never been mistaken for an optimist so where exactly is this impression from? When I'm excited or happy about a thing, it's discounted, but suddenly when I express criticism, it's just me being generally in a bad mood. Just two days ago, I celebrated and was excited at a concert. Last night, and nights before, I said that i had a lot of fun and I marveled at people's galaxy brain plays. So where is the discontent there?

Like I genuinely don't understand what it is you want from me. Why is it that every time I have a thought or opinion that doesn't seem to align, I'm heavily scrutinized for having it? Am I only not an NPC if my thoughts align with yours? Do I have to play the wide eyed ingenue forever? Like seriously what the fuck.

And let's not forget when someone talks incessantly about their home life issues, like why is that not a sign of general malcontent? Or it is, but we just won't challenge or criticize it because it's you and you're human so it's okay for you to suffer and talk about it. But if it's me, no fuck that, I have one role only and it's assuredly not to be human.

And god, like I'd rather be rejected outright, isolated socially, AS I HAVE BEEN BEFORE, than to be subjected to being the target of sympathy and gratification. Nothing can gratify me. I already see the double standard and nothing can be done to make me unsee it. Nothing reinforces my loneliness more than someone showing me "kindness" and "understanding." If you really did understand, we wouldn't have gotten to this point. Don't fucking bother.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, episode 1

I had a blast watching and liveblogging this, believe it or not!

[Spoilers for the next episodes, and hopefully vague spoilers for KOTOR]

I appreciate the prequels recap. I last saw them when TFA came out... It's very funny to see “It’s over, Anakin! I have the high ground” and “You underestimate my power” included in full seriousness, though.

Wow, they're opening with the younglings? Brutal. Oh, must be saving the kicker to bookend the episode, then.

Oh so we’re focusing on the “nazi stand-in” angle here?

Oh right, I should have watched for the kid in the opening. I didn’t try to see her among the others. Also interesting how this “ten years later” timeskip frames her as the viewpoint character, though the viewer isn’t supposed to immediately realize it.

Oh god the word “Inquisitors” was said with the same cadence/accent they greet your player character in Dragon Age Inquisition, I almost jumped!

Did... did they put the Asian guy in a stereotypical Asian hat?! Bit distasteful.

Omg I thought she was uncomfortable for some reason I didn’t realize she just resented the guy for monologuing lmfao. Also nice bait-and-switch with the Jedi, I totally assumed it was Obi-Wan despite having a second-long thought like “Huh, this guy is dressed like a Jedi”. Why is he dressed like a Jedi, by the way? Is nobody in the order familiar with the concept of blending in?

Oh, the hat guy speaks with a Japanese accent, too.

“You will forget this fixation with Kenobi or I will relieve you of your duties”, Palpatine never said to Vader, presumably.

Idk why the Inquisitor is mad, she was way more efficient at finding the target...

Wait what the hell, he was telling this random Jedi to abandon everything and live a normal life and now he insists that “there’s more to life” and that Luke must be trained? Genuinely surprised to see the Hypocrisy not even thirty minutes in.

*completes the rant above, presses play again* “Like you trained his father?” Laughed out loud at that.

I didn’t really think about what her name was until I started watching the episode, but. Reva. Please tell me she was named after Revan on purpose!

Will the hat guy shut up, Reva is obviously grinding her Dark Side points! This is why she is a video game protagonist and not you.

Literally what do these two losers have against her when she’s literally picking all of the darksider dialogue options. It’s like she’s only one of them who’s even heard of leveling up. How tf are they planning to advance as Sith if they aren’t threatening and attacking innocent people with zero provocation in pursuit of their personal goal?

(Before you jump on this post with corrections: after writing this, I googled “are inquisitors sith” and saw very convoluted explanation that only reinforced my impression that Reva is a legit KOTOR-type Sith and the other two don’t even get it and are not nearly in the same wheelhouse. Hopefully she stabs them for standing in her way ASAP. Since people insist that Inquisitors aren’t Sith this would probably never happen but I want to see this woman recite the Sith code as she overthrows her own superior.)
