MSK-008 Dijeh [Amuro Ray Custom]
A.E.U.G./Karaba Prototype Mobile Suit
Custom Showcase
High Grade Universal Century 1/144
Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta
The Dijeh is a lowkey favorite non-gundam type mobile suit. It’s design is most likely based on the Gelgoog which is my favorite Zeon mobile suit from the One Year War, and it’s the funky, chunky mobile suit that Amuro Ray piloted for the duration of the ground war in the Gryps Conflict. Some of the best battle moments for me in Gundam Zeta were of Amuro Ray bringing the hurt to Titan forces in this mean green machine.
As a stock build, the HGUC Dijeh has solid articulation and joints. The arms especially have an interesting design that allows them to be pulled out and swiveled for additional range of movement, which gives this somewhat bulky kit the dexterity hold its weapons with two hands. This is also handy for achieving extreme poses especially with all the bulk on the right shoulder. The legs have about average range of articulation for a modern high grade so they can’t pull off the extreme poses that maybe more high end High Grades and Real Grades can but it’s still sufficient. I feel that the dual thrusters on the back unit could have benefitted from a joint system similar to the HGUC Sinanju and Sinanju Stein to provide a better range of movement, but it’s still solid enough.
For the customization aspect of this kit for #Project Rivalry, I noted in my WIP posts that I wanted to create a “retro-anime accurate" appearence. Since the default colors of the kit are for Amuro Ray’s unit, I kept them the same but added more red to match it closer to the RX-78-2 Gundam color layout with red in the shield and feet areas. Also added minimal markings and decals. This helps the kit fit in a little better with the Real Grades while also standing out. I’m proud of the results of my work, and this marks the third kit that I’ve painted. However, there are a few things I would do differently if I decided to make another custom Dijeh that was more stylized and closer to Real Grade appearence.
I am satisfied with the markings layout, but I think that I would want to add more for a stylized and less anime accurate custom Dijeh for Amuro Ray. Probably more caution markings, and a squadon unit marking as well. Maybe some trim markings. There are also a few other color scheme ideas I would be interested in: A simplified color scheme that replaces the yellow for more cohesion or a realistic color scheme based on real life air force color schemes. Finally, I’d also want to add additional geometry and panels with some pla plates. Mainly the feet guard and backpack.
I really enjoyed this build. It was also a very nice change in pace to build a high grade again. I consider High Grades to be the heart of Gunpla kits, since they are the most accessible and have the greatest potential for customization all while remaining economical. With the completion of the Dijeh Amuro Ray Custom, Project Rivalry is now basically half complete. I’m already setting up to start on Char, the Red Comet.

I Am Looking For More OP Blogs On Tumblr
I have been noticing that whenever I follow a Tumblr user (most of them are rebloggers), they disappear from my Following count (either they deactivated their account, or blocked me; but mostly their account gets deactivated).  Most Tumblr users want more followers; I want more blogs to follow, especially OP (original post) blogs.
I am not saying there should be no rebloggers (in fact, I encourage reblogging); it is that there are so many users that only/mostly reblog other users’ posts; I want to follow more OP users because I have a big thing for originality, creativity, and individuality.  Rebloggers tend to agree on what the OP (or other reblogger) says, and whenever I go to the tagged or search section/s, only the OP posts are apparent, and no rebloggers with their own creative tags (unless I go to their blog and search whatever keyword/tag they designate some of their posts with).
Yes, I reblog other users’ posts, myself, but I tend to add my own thoughts and tags whenever I do so; and since my reblogs are not in the tagged or search sections, these posts are not mine, since I am not the OP.  Even some OP users have reblogged posts of their own, as well (but they usually do not go overboard with them, and they usually have an equal amount of reblogs as well as original posts).  Because I promote creativity, talent and individuality, I do not reblog as much as most OP users.
I am looking for more OP blogs for me to follow (or to follow me so I can follow them) that are currently active and not defunct or dormant.  And whatever the OP user posts on their blog is their primary content.  Here are some content I am looking for:

AI Weekly 6 April 2018
Hi! New AI Weekly is here! This week was really great for AI industry, at first it’s definitely worth to watch all videos from TensorFlow Dev Summit 2018. From general news, Apple has hired Google’s chief of search and artificial intelligence, John Giannandrea and Google employees have signed a letter protesting the company’s involvement in a Pentagon program. There are also 2 interesting papers, which were published, especially the one about The Tsetlin Machine, which seems to be interesting alternative for neural networks. If you are developer i strongly recommend taking part in OpenAI Retro Contest, which will be really fun, of course that’s not all... just enjoy your weekend reading other AI news and don’t forget to share it with your friends ;)
GENERAL Google Workers Urge C.E.O. to Pull Out of Pentagon A.I. Project - Thousands of Google employees, including dozens of senior engineers, have signed a letter protesting the company’s involvement in a Pentagon program that uses artificial intelligence to interpret video imagery and could be used to improve the targeting of drone strikes. The letter, which is circulating inside Google and has garnered more than 3,100 signatures, reflects a culture clash between Silicon Valley and the federal government that is likely to intensify as cutting-edge artificial intelligence is increasingly employed for military purposes. https://nyti.ms/2Ivl9gk
Apple Hires Google’s A.I. Chief - Apple has hired Google’s chief of search and artificial intelligence, John Giannandrea, a major coup in its bid to catch up to the artificial intelligence technology of its rivals. Apple said on Tuesday that Mr. Giannandrea will run Apple’s “machine learning and A.I. strategy,” and become one of 16 executives who report directly to Apple’s chief executive, Timothy D. Cook. The hire is a victory for Apple, which many Silicon Valley executives and analysts view as lagging its peers in artificial intelligence, an increasingly crucial technology for companies that enable computers to handle more complex tasks, like understanding voice commands or identifying people in images. https://nyti.ms/2qaCRio

CometML wants to do for machine learning what GitHub did for code - Comet.ml allows data scientists and developers to easily monitor, compare and optimize their machine learning models. The service provides you with a dashboard that brings together the code of your machine learning (ML) experiments and their results. In addition, the service also allows you to optimize your models by tweaking the hyperparameters of your experiments. As you train your model, Comet tracks the results and provides you with a graph of your results, but it also tracks your code changes and imports them so that you can later compare all the different aspects of the various versions of your experiments. https://tcrn.ch/2Hdj9tq
PAPERS The Tsetlin Machine - Although simple individually, artificial neurons provide state-of-the-art performance when interconnected in deep networks. Unknown to many, there exists an arguably even simpler and more versatile learning mechanism, namely, the Tsetlin Automaton. Merely by means of a single integer as memory, it learns the optimal action in stochastic environments. In this paper, author introduces the Tsetlin Machine, which solves complex pattern recognition problems with easy-to-interpret propositional formulas, composed by a collective of Tsetlin Automata. http://bit.ly/2JqQGB1
Learning to navigate in cities without a map - in this paper DeepMind present an interactive navigation environment that uses first-person perspective photographs from Google Street View and gamify that environment to train an AI. As standard with Street View images, faces and license plates have been blurred and are unrecognisable. They build a neural network-based artificial agent that learns to navigate multiple cities using visual information (pixels from a Street View image). http://bit.ly/2H4EEiz
CONTESTS OpenAI Retro Contest - April 5 to June 5, 2018 - transfer-learning contest using the Sonic The Hedgehog™ series of games for SEGA Genesis. In this contest, participants try to create the best agent for playing custom levels of the Sonic games — without have access to those levels during development. http://bit.ly/2qcCBi6 If you want to be always on time with AI weekly, feel free to subscribe to newsletter on http://theaigeek.com/

CES 2020: Highlights in Photos
With a nearly unimaginable array of products and concepts on display spread across all of Las Vegas, it is hard to pick out a final few each year for our wrap-up. But here are those we found of particular interest.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 “Many-in-1” Foldable
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is the world’s first folding display tablet. (There are obviously several designs that have separate displays on each section, but not a single folding display.) I got to demo one this week and I’m really impressed with the design. The display is protected front and back by an integrated leather cover. That prevents a lot of the issues that arose with the original Samsung Fold. You can’t get under the screen — neither can your sandwich crumbs — and the back of the hinge is solidly protected. I saw no evidence of a crease when folding and unfolding it. Lenovo rates the display for 3-4 years of life, as tested by their industrious robots. For the full specs, you can read our coverage of the announcement here.
Given concerns over the plastic screen scratching, I asked Lenovo about that. They said it is actually harder to scratch, and have been testing it in pockets with keys and other sharp objects. With the keyboard tucked inside, there really isn’t any room for something to get in once it is folded, but without the keyboard, there is a tiny gap. I offered to trade them my Surface Pro for one on the spot, but Lenovo was not amused. It looks like a great ultra-portable if you can afford the $2,499+ price when it ships later this year. Not everyone wants a Windows tablet, but it worked quite nicely as a 13-inch display with the optional Bluetooth keyboard that you can fold into the tablet.
On the lighter folding side, Lenovo’s new Razr features a fully functional retro mode that works exactly the way the original Razr phone did.
ShiftCam Aims To Put Another Nail in Camera Company Coffins
There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of clip-on lenses and filters for smartphones. But unless they are specced very tightly for a particular model phone, they are hard to align. The problem is worsened if you need to swap between them for different effects. ShiftCam has come up with an ingenious solution: The company puts a number of lens and filter modules into a phone case that has a sliding section. So you can simply slide the correct lens or filter over your phone’s camera. Right now it is understandably iPhone-only, as the bewildering variety of form factors for Android phones makes building something like this for them difficult.
Living Packets Sustainable e-Commerce
Our modern lives full of “1-click ordering” come with many costs. One is the huge amount of packaging required. Some, like cardboard boxes, are at least fairly easy to recycle. Others, like many foam peanuts or other petroleum-based packing materials, aren’t. Living Packets aims to totally up-end both the physical reality of product shipping and its economics. I can’t do the company’s aspirations justice in these few sentences, but they’ve constructed an easy-to-fold, reusable box that in the shipping version will be equipped with GPS, cellular connectivity, an inward-facing camera for inspecting package contents, an e-Ink display for addressing, and even temperature and humidity sensors for quality tracking.
Customers who get a product in one of the company’s boxes can use the box to return products, or donate or sell other items they own in a user-friendly way. Or they can return them to a participating retailer for a small credit. There is a lot more to the vision of Living Packets, but overall the team describes a utopian vision of how product shipments and returns almost certainly should work in a perfect world. So I’m happy to wish them every success, but making this vision a reality will be a long and challenging enterprise. The company has been doing testing with a French retailer, and is planning a broader European launch later this year. The US isn’t on their radar until next year.
The Massive Black Multi-Rotor Copters Are Now Friendlier-Looking
Last year, the Bell multi-rotor passenger helicopter prototype looked like it belonged in a dystopian science fiction movie: sheer black, accented with blue neon. Apparently the company got the message, as this year it was dolled up in much more reasonable garb. Hyundai also showed a massive prototype this year. The color is fine, but unlike the Bell that has shrouds around its props, the props on the Hyundai look like they could double as killing machines. Of course, they are quite high up, but the effect is still a little disconcerting.
Far From the Madding Crowds: Outside Las Vegas
It’s easy to forget that the neon and concrete of Las Vegas sits in the middle of one of the most beautiful areas anywhere. The immediate area is desert (the Mojave), but there are plenty of mountains. This is a view coming down from Sequoia National Forest past Lake Isabella on our drive to the show.
Finally: An Ultra-Short-Throw Projector for Consumers
Whether it is because you like the relative softness and easy-on-the-eye feel of a projected image, or because you can’t afford a zillion-dollar, super-big-screen TV, projectors are an obvious solution. Until now, though, they have required a large area and fancy mounting. Or, like the Sony ultra-short-throw on display a couple of years ago, cost as much as a low-end Tesla. Vava, better known for lower-end consumer electronics, has introduced a really impressive 4K (pixel-shifted using a TI DLP) UST that can project a 150-inch display. The model I demoed was projecting 100 inches onto a special UST-friendly ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) screen. While it doesn’t have quite the color gamut of a similarly priced home cinema projector, it is a lot more convenient.
F1: The World’s Highest-Tech Sport
Top Formula 1 teams employ well over 1,000 people and spend as much as $400 million a year to field just two cars in about 20 races (21 last year, 22 this year). So, of course, F1 had an exhibit to hype the massive amount of data produced, transmitted, and consumed by the cars. Each race venue has to be fitted with about 60 km of fiber optic cables, for example. For show and tell, you could play F1 2019 in a really nice cockpit (review samples were unfortunately not available) and see Sebastian Vettel’s 2011 title-winning Red Bull car redecorated in the team’s 2019 livery.
GaN: The Secret to Fast Charging
A couple of years ago, I wrote about how EPC’s GaN semiconductor technology was the secret sauce to most high-speed lidar units. It turns out that GaN is also the secret to super-fast, high-power, compact USB-C chargers. If like me, you’d never heard of Navitas, you may still have used a charger powered by its chips. Well over a dozen brands use the company for its high-end USB-C chargers, including Aukey, Ravpower, Anker, and ASUS. The photo shows the size reduction possible by going from a traditional to GaN approach for a 300-watt power supply.
Jeep Combined VR With the Real World in This Ride
Finally, on the fun side, Jeep offered show-goers a turn in this hydraulically-lifted Jeep Rubicon as they traversed an off-road course in virtual reality — competing for the best time.

Nostalgia Stealth Bomber Pt. 2 – Holley Dual Sync Distributor Install
Last year, we picked apart Dale Snoke’s altered-wheelbase 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente, a street-driven B/FX to install Holley’s latest Terminator Stealth EFI. With its gold Moroso valve covers and through-fender headers, Dale’s Comet was a perfect foundation for this retro-façade that takes the best of Holley’s race-proven ECUs and tucks a throttle body injection system under the wraps of a double-pumper (dripping in a venerable Dichromate-like gold finish, of course). What we left out in Part 1 was a computer-controlled distributor, Holley’s dual-sync unit for small-block Fords. While we first wanted to show you just how capable the basic Terminator kit is, an ECU-controlled distributor really completes the package from a performance and drivability perspective. Not only does it allow you to accurately map a custom timing curve via the hand-held or a laptop, but it also gives the ECU extra control over start-up, idle, and low RPM performance, as it can dynamically adjust timing based on running conditions. This helps the throttle body to rely less on the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and utilize timing to stabilize the RPM.
How the Holley dual-sync distributor works is not unlike the later Vortec distributor found in GM trucks before the LS was introduced. With a a fixed rotor (no mechanical or vacuum advance), the ECU chooses when spark is sent via the MSD 6AL box (that was already installed on Dale’s Comet. Two Hall Effect sensors (magnetic pick-ups) are used to calculate engine RPM and camshaft position, both of which are used by the ECU to determine when to fire the ignition. For this throttle-body-injected application, we only needed to utilize the crankshaft signal, but using both allows for either sequential fuel injection or coil-pack ignition if you wanted to upgrade the system in the future. The advantage of using just the crank signal with one of Holley’s throttle-body-injected EFI units is that it shortens the cranking time by a second or two, as the computer no longer waits for the two signals to synchronize and quickly starts spraying fuel the moment it sees an RPM signal. With the Terminator Stealth EFI already installed, the dual-sync dizzy was a drop-in, plug-n-play affair that required no extra wiring or modifications to our existing combination.
Tricky Tips
Holley provides incredibly detailed instructions on the setup and calibration process for your dual-sync distributor, but we’ll go over what we learned from the process and pass along some of our notes.
Note the two red lines, the upper is TDC and the lower mark is our 50-degree BTDC point for dropping the distributor in.
The trickiest thing in this entire install is actually just Step 1, marking your crank balancer for 50-degrees before top-dead-center (BTDC). This puts the rotor for the Hall Effect sensor in sync with the crankshaft, and ensures that the ECU knows exactly where the engine and distributor is throughout its rotation. If you have a degree-marked balancer, this is a quick job. Otherwise, Holley provides a quick reference measurement to mark 50-degrees BTDC in the table below. Using a tape measure, you can measure from the 0-degree mark with the distances below to help find the sweet spot.
Balancer Diameter Distance 6in 2-5/8in 7in 3-1/16in 8in 3-1/2in
The next step is to precisely align the body of the distributor with the rotor and Hall Effect drum, which Holley has made simple thanks to a pair of on-board status LEDs placed under the cap. Start by rotating the rotor, while still directed at the terminal for cylinder one, until the left “Crank LED” turns on and the rotor is aligned with the Hall Effect pick-up (009-A). You then rotate the body of the dizzy in the direction of the rotor’s running rotation until the Crank LED turns off, where you’ll notice that the Hall Effect drum has reached the edge of its tooth. Then, gently rotate the housing back until the Crank LED just turns on – there, you’re set! In the case of Dale’s Windsor, which spins the rotor counter-clockwise, we rotated the housing counter-clockwise until the LED shut-off and then clock-wise until it just came back on. Lock down the distributor clamp and move on to configuring the ECU.
Engine Family Rotor Rotation Small- and big-block Chevy Clockwise Chrysler small-block Clockwise Ford 351 Windsor Counter-clockwise Ford 302/small-block Counter-clockwise Big-block Chrysler Wedge Counter-clockwise Ford FE Counter-clockwise Oldsmobile Counter-clockwise Pontiac Counter-clockwise
From here, if this was a fresh install, we could use the hand-held display to set the ECU up for timing control with the included wizard; but having already done that, we used Holley’s desktop software to change the ignition parameters to utilize the distributor’s crank signal and timing controls. To start, Dale matched the timing characteristics of the previous mechanical advance distributor, with 25 degrees of base timing ramping up to 30 degrees by 4,000 rpm, double checking the ECU’s settings with a timing light to certify that everything was synced up correctly. On the chassis dyno at Westech Performance Group, we settled on 32 degrees of advance after seeing no increase in horsepower with the timing set at 34- degrees. Backing the timing to 32-degrees allows for an extra margin of safety when running on California’s 91-octane pump fuel. The ease of adjustment is a big plus, but the real advantage over a mechanically-advanced distributor is the precise control that you have over the curve at any given RPM, along with improved timing accuracy at high RPM. Unlike the passive action of a mechanical distributor, which relies on spring tension and a selection of weights that react to centrifugal forces as the rotor spins, the feedback from the Hall Effect sensor inside our new distributor allows the ECU to track the timing curve exactly.
During last fall’s HOT ROD and In-n-Out Burger 70th Anniversary at Pomona, the Comet ran its best-ever 10.94 at 122mph with the Terminator Stealth and dual-sync dizzy. Our little Nostalgia Stealth Bomber now has a mountain of technology underneath the Dichromate façade of a classic Holley double-pumper. This combination resulted in an ideal “have your cake and eat it too” package of better performance at the track with showroom-stock levels of civility during cold starts and long street miles.
The old red-top MSD Pro-Billet served well for many years, but as Bob Dylan explained, “The times, they are a-changin’.”
We confirmed that the correct distributor was acquired by comparing the depth of the drive gear.
As you can see, the drive gears sit flush with the flange of the opposing distributor. Ensure that the correct drive gear is matched for your camshaft.
Assembly grease was placed on the new drive gear to ensure plenty of initial lubrication.
Holley dual-sync distributor was dropped in, then the body was clocked so that the Hall Effect pick-up is facing cylinder one.
Next, the distributor body is rotated until the pickup aligns with the rotor, which puts the tooth of the Hall Effect drum in front of pickup.
When you rotate the distributor body in the direction of the rotor’s rotation, pay close attention to when the Crank LED turns off, seen here.
After setup, timing is confirmed with a light, ensuring that the commanded timing advance matches reality.
In keeping with our stealth install, the black-cap Holley dual-sync would look at home on practically any combination.
Baseline runs were essentially what the self-learning had tuned based on our target A/F ratios set in the handheld.
With a little more timing and a smoothed fuel map, we picked up a handful of horsepower and torque.
This is the self-taught calibration done by the Holley HP…
…and our tweaked map after Westech. The self-learning did a bang-up job, even resulting in the Comet’s best-ever quarter-mile e.t.
Our timing curve, before and after Westech.
No weights or springs! The rotor is affixed directly to the shaft.
