Just wondering how much prep is required to be a 'ToPpeRrr'.

Okay, so I am even one of the 21laks students who appeared for the well-known 'Board Exams' this year and this blog is not about the board exam experience-rather, this is about the overall experience of class 10, 'Dasvi Kaksha'.

I think it's true when people say, “Covid changed everything ”coz it really did for me. After 7th grade, I literally went to school directly into 10th grade (I attended online schooling for 2 years). I didn't know that the bunch of friends who were with me from 1st, and with whom I celebrated on the last day of my 7th grade, I wouldn't be able to meet them for 2 years and we wouldn't be in the same class anymore. Like, just imagine the Earth separated from its twin planet, Venus.

Anyways, the 10th grade began with a whole bunch of new kids, who looked like they were studying for 30hrs a day!! Like seriously, they appeared to be too studious and serious for me!! Time passed by and we all adapted to this change. Those unknown faces became known.

My experience of this grade , if you don't consider this separation,the number of times my class was relocated , the number of times I collided with some strangers in school and got stuck in awkward situations, then this year has been great for me. I won a debating competition, wrote a play and bagged third position amongst 28 schools and also got to be a part of the school's student council as the Deputy Head Girl (although I didn't have any job to do other than wearing the badge and roaming around).

Not only this, but I also strengthened my friendships with some crazy friends who were with me even when I brutally lost 2 different competitions this year, and started writing poems ‘kavitaayein’ (btw, 2 of them are published now in 2 anthologies).

In short, I enjoyed my ‘DASVI’ to the fullest. Without any regrets, I can say that I didn't just study, throughout the session, mugging up the syllabus, and became a book worm, but I also won prizes in other co-curricular activities, didn't compromise on my other interests and enjoyed this journey throughout .

JEE preparation with the 12th board exams

JEE preparation along with studying for the class curriculum is one of the hardest things to execute among the aspirants. Having a perfect balance of preparation for JEE and board exam is the mantra in clearing the JEE.

Out of 24 hours in a day one-third of the time goes to school. While the other remaining time is being spent taking coaching classes which leaves the students with very little time to recollect the study done within a day and when it comes to spending some personal time it is a luxury for students while preparing.

With competition for places increasing day by day and clearing the paper becoming difficult we can see very few getting seats in their first attempt.

So, most of the aspirants go for a second attempt or drop a year with the sole purpose to prepare for the JEE exam.

The second approach helps many to clear the examination at the expense of losing a year but the ultimate aim being IIT matters the least.

There is a trend or a pattern that the top rankers of this exam are students who are fresher acing JEE in their first attempt alongside board exams.

There will always be exceptional cases amongst aspirants who clear JEE in the first attempt which shows the sheer genius of these students but people shouldn’t overlook their hard work and efforts.

To balance studying for 12th board while simultaneously preparing for JEE here are a few advises

NCERT as primary books is a must. It is basically your bible for two years. It helps you get your basics right. People will suggest other sources for preparing but trust me without acing NCERT running after secondary sources are worthless. NCERT is also a factor for the mass exodus of students from other boards to CBSE after class 10.

Try to finish up your NCERT books as quickly as possible.NCERT only helps you clear up your basic concepts and help you solve the numerical aspects. The thorough study of NCERT would help you solve the numerical because once the basics get clear due to practice and revision you will be able to do the numerical more efficiently. Remember one important motto while preparing for JEE; try to avoid utilizing your time in clearing up your theoretical concept and focus on numerical concepts as much as possible. JEE paper is totally based on your ability to solve the conceptual numerical. The paper does not test your theoretical ability as much. So no need to be cent per cent perfect.

Solving of previous year question(PYQ) must be a priority as it gives you a rough idea about the type of question asked and can be asked in future. It not only helps you in preparing for JEE but also helps you for the board exam. Solving PVQ is the easiest and fastest way to test your ability and learn quicker. Students should emphasize more on JEE than the board examination. At the end of the day, what will you prefer to get into IIT with fewer marks on the 12th board on the 1st attempt or good marks and no IIT? Many students go for open schools to prioritize JEE over boards. This method gives ample time for preparing JEE and boards simultaneously.

Who is eligible for Navodaya Entrance Examination?

The Navodaya Entrance Examination, officially known as the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), is conducted annually by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This entrance exam is designed to select students for admission into the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), which are residential schools established across various districts in India with the aim of providing quality education to rural children.

Eligibility criteria for the Navodaya Entrance Examination include

1. Age Limit: As per the guidelines, candidates must be between the ages of 9 and 13 years on July 1st of the year of admission. This means candidates must be born between a specified range of dates to be eligible to apply for the exam.

2. Educational Qualifications: Applicants must be studying in Class 5 at the time of appearing for the Navodaya Entrance Examination. They should be enrolled in a recognized government or government-aided school or a school that is affiliated with recognized boards like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), State Board, or any other equivalent institution.

3. Residential Status: One of the key objectives of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya is to provide quality education to rural children. Therefore, only students from rural areas are eligible to apply for the Navodaya Entrance Examination. Candidates must have studied in rural areas for a minimum of three continuous years in Classes 3, 4, and 5.

4. Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals are not eligible to apply for admission to JNVs through the Navodaya Vidyalaya application form.

5. Reservation Criteria: There are certain reserved seats for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as per the reservation policy of the Government of India. Additionally, there are also provisions for seats reserved for candidates with special needs.

6. No Previous Selection: Candidates who have already been selected for admission in a JNV are not eligible to appear for the Navodaya Entrance Examination again.

What is the ideal age for your kids admission to class 1

Parents start thinkingabout their child’s early learning and education as soon as the child attains the age of 2 -2.5 years. With several options to explore online, parents start searching for the best pre-school or nursery school in their vicinity. Several schools in Delhi offer admissions at a relative age of 3 years for Nursery, so by the time your child reaches 5 - 6 years, they will enter class 1, which is an ideal age for admission.

It is a worrisome thoughtfor parents whether their children will get the rightschooling and education at the right age or not. So, when children pass their kindergarten stage after 3-4years of age, eligibility for class 1 admissionsin Delhi schools are open between 5 to 6 years.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Class1

According to CBSE norms, the ideal age for admission in class 1is 5years onwards.Last date foradmissions is before 31st March for a particular academic year. However, some schools in Delhi are very stringent with the age factor and ensure class 1 admissions are approved only when the child reaches the eligible age.

Children should complete 5 years by 31st March of the same year to get admission in 1st std. For example, if your child's date of birth is 15th June 2017. So, the student will be completing his 5th year by 15th June 2022. As per the rule, your child has not attained the minimum age criteria for admission in class 1. So, the child will be eligible for class admissions in the next academic year.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a very competitive exam in India for admission to top engineering institutes, especially IITs. How to Register for the Jee Examination

Visit the official JEE Main Registration NTA website jeemain.nta.ac.in 2024 registration link

Select the JEE Mains Apply Online option that says "New Candidate Registration."

Select the preferred registration mode through Aadhar enrollment number/PAN/Passport or ABC ID.

Fill the registration form with the necessary data, and create a passport of your choice.

Click on the "submit" button.

Candidate will receive the JEE Main registration number and password on the registered mobile phone and email ID.

Login using the details provided and fill in all the information asked in the application form. After which the documents and photographs should be scanned and uploaded.

The next step is to pay the JEE Main fees 2024 through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI.

After the JEE Mains 2024 registration fees is successfully paid, the application form will be instantly submitted. The confirmation page or PDF of the completed form will be sent to the candidate’s email ID.
