hi! just wanna say real quick that i LOVE your blog, im also a car autistic and its so awesome to finally find a car-centric community that i dont feel out of place in :-)
anyways! im looking to get a new car- i own a 1985 mercedes 380sl named rodney, but shes got a few issues and i dont feel super comfortable using her as a daily driver for an hour commute to/from work right now- and i was wondering if you knew anything or had any opinions about late '90s buick lesabres? i was also looking at honda civics or accords bc i used to drive an accord, but my dad has been hard recommending i get a '98 lesabre :o thanks so much if u get to this, hope ur inbox isnt too full!!
i’m in the same boat with my jeep, love her to death but she’s not particularly safe for anything outside of local driving. those lesabres are mad underrated, those things go forever. a lot of the ones out there are in fantastic shape because they were old people church shuttles more than anything, and there were a ton of them so parts were plentiful, meaning when they do have issues they’re cheap to fix (mostly). if you find a low mileage one it seems like they’re solid! i know at least the roadmaster from that era was pretty tough, and i see those lesabres all the time still, so buick was doing at least something right

Excerpt:
[....]
“Across the country, voter suppression laws are running rampant,” Civic Influencers CEO Maxim Thorne tells Truthout. Thorne asserts such laws emerge from an understanding that young voters have a strong propensity to swing elections. “There are 8.6 million new voters who turn 18 every election cycle, and young people ages 18-29 are now the largest voting bloc in the country. Most schools have enough students to easily tip an election in key states — sometimes, just the population of one university shuttling to a polling site would be enough to flip elections by a large margin.”
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, in 2022 alone, 408 bills were introduced across 39 states which were designed to restrict access to voting, with eight states enacting 11 total restrictive voting laws. So far in 2023, the Brennan Center reports that 32 states have introduced 150 restrictive voting laws. Of these restrictive measures, the Voting Rights Alliance counts 61 forms of voter suppression, some of which particularly impact young people. This includes prohibiting student IDs as viable voting ID, refusing to place polling sites on campuses, gerrymandering Black and Indigenous educational institutions and shortening mail-in ballot deadlines.

Give ‘em hell... after a nap (AO3 link)
.......................................................................................
"Hey." Gideon sat on the edge of the bed. "Hey, are you alright?"
"Go away," Harrow mumbled into her pillow. It would be inaccurate, Gideon thought, to describe her as clutching the thing. She was more–curled around it like a wounded animal.
"You don't look alright to me."
"Go away," the wounded animal repeated, "or I shall drill you on each small bone in your hand."
Gideon blinked. "OK, We both know I hate homework, but that's a weird threat even for you. Really sub-par."
"Emphasis on drill."
"There she is, folks," Gideon replied cheerfully, and slid under the covers.
It was like trying to cuddle a wet and pissed-off cat. She caught claws in her arms at least twice. There was a lot of half-hearted hissing and cursing. Then there was a sort of resigned flopping.
They lay like that, quietly, for a while: Gideon's arms wrapped loosely around Harrow; Harrow curled back-to-front, slowly relaxing into the embrace.
After a time, the smaller woman sighed and wriggled back to press herself into Gideon's chest.
"I hate you," she said.
Gideon stroked her hair with one hand and wrapped the other snug around her waist. "I know. I love you too."
She bent forward to plant a gentle kiss amidst her lady's dark hair.
"It's only," Harrow admitted, grudgingly, "that I can't stop thinking about what went wrong. And wondering if it can ever be right again."
"I have no idea." Gideon shrugged.
Abruptly Harrow twisted around to face her cavalier. "How can you just say that like it doesn't matter?"
"Of course it matters," Gideon objected. "I'm just as invested as you. Only– I'm trying not to run down my energy worrying about dealing with the problem instead of actually dealing with it, you know? Either we'll figure out something that wants doing, in which case I'll need that energy in reserve. Or we won't, in which case… I'll also need that energy, I suppose, to give ‘em hell on the way out."
"There is some golden retriever grafted into your family line somewhere," Harrow grumbled. "It's the only possible explanation."
Gideon laughed. She didn't say anything, which she thought was remarkably mature of her. Personal growth, that was. Instead she continued stroking Harrow's hair.
They were quiet again. Gideon loved the way their bodies fit together. The harmony of heartbeats. The natural confluence of rhythms of rising and falling breath. One flesh, one end, she thought.
Harrow gave a little full-body jerk. She pushed weakly at Gideon's enfolding arm. "I need to–"
"You need to rest," Gideon said firmly. "That was a--whatchacallit, a myopic twitch? The thing where you're about to fall asleep and you shake yourself out of it."
"Myclonic twitch," Harrow corrected. "It was not."
"Was too. That, or you've started having seizures." Gideon considered a moment. "Or, I suppose, you could've been momentarily overloaded by my sheer awesomeness."
"You are an idiot."
"I'm your idiot."
"I didn't ask for this."
"You literally did though. I was about to go off to do my civic duty in the military, and you attacked me with a surprise party of buried skeletons and blew up my shuttle."
"For the love of--I didn't blow up your shuttle. We've been over this." A note of satisfaction crept into her voice. "But it was a lovely surprise skeleton party, you must admit."
"I mustn't admit shit."
An unfairly adorable yawn swallowed whatever retort Harrow would've made.
Gideon booped her nose. "See? Sleep."
Harrow rubbed at the tip of her nose as if she could erase a booping with a scowl and a vigorous scrub. She glared. "Promise to behave tomorrow and I'll consider your suggestion."
Gideon sighed and nodded, suppressing a grin. "Sure, I'll behave." Harrow was tired. She wouldn't figure out until it was too late that she had neglected to specify how she wanted her cav to behave.
Gideon draped herself in her best impression of a weighted blanket in case Her Necromantic High-and-Mightiness woke up in a fit of responsibility, and happily drifted off for a well-earned nap.
......... 💀 .......... 💀 .......... 💀 ..........
Author’s Note:
I started writing this piece in an anxious delirium the day that the US Supreme Court draft opinion was leaked that will, if finalized, strike down Roe v Wade. I was self-soothing. That’s my context, and why there’re no details about what exactly is being discussed.
Perhaps you can insert your own subject(s) of concern. Gideon is a good cuddler.
She’s also right: rest when you need it. And then give ‘em hell.

walk me to my room? {other path verse}
Naboo cloaks herself in a damp, heavy coat, no longer a whispering Anemoi of the vernal equinox, but the summertide succubus pressing her torrid hands down upon the chests of her people. Mists skim off the wetlands and affix themselves to the bases of the mountains, and the air becomes a living creature, sentient in its density, oppressive by nature. Sometimes it's hard to breathe. To breathe and to bear.
Ren spots the Fury as it swoops down into the carved mineral ribcage of the Civic Spaceport, a vestige of Old Theed. He's been watching ships coming and going all day; a Xi-class shuttle, a yellow freighter, swift, shining things. Work is to be done, but Ren's heart dwells on the gardens and the Gallos, and he loiters on the palace steps until she arrives.
"You look well, my lady," he says, although he can't look at her without his lips trembling. He asks Daenerys about her travels, of course, and they exchange the customary platitudes. All he wants to do is shake her and ask her if she has a heart, and if she does, does it not feel? And then, as if her month's long absence wasn't cruel enough, she now threatens him with her proximity.
The corridors are soft with shadows and a fading warmth; the sound of trickling water; an echo of trilling insects. It's strange to think his grandmother ever walked these halls. Over time they have come to belong to them. They are Daenerys' grottos in the enclave, Ren's refuge. Once again, he has come under her wing.
"Do you remember when you first took me to Naboo? The day we touched ground. I..."
Ren hesitates at her side. Perhaps she only waits because he's yet to complete his task. Things are different now. Dany is different. Ren senses something at her core — something like a dam holding back a mighty river that would end the village in its path.
"Forgive me,"  he says, looking away. "You've had a long journey."
He is different, too, he thinks, except he remains a fool. He is sickened by his love. As he walks with Daenerys, he is caught in her braided hair; the moonlight burns him. Ren knows the mask will fall before long. His eyes have always betrayed him.

Brief History of Toyota Motor Corporation
Tumblr media
The Toyota Motor Corporation is a world-renowned car manufacturer that has been producing some of the most reliable vehicles since its inception on August 28, 1937. Founded by Kiichiro Toyoda, the company initially produced only a few cars per month but quickly grew to become one of the most successful car manufacturers in the world. As one of the largest automotive companies in the world, Toyota Motor Corporation's expansive vehicle line-up consists of 14 models.

Toyota’s Early Years
The Toyoda Model G Automatic Loom was created in 1924 by Sakichi Toyoda. The Toyota Production System later incorporated the jidoka principle, which states that when a problem arises, the machine automatically stops. A modest production line was used to construct looms. The automatic loom invention was sold to the British business Platt Brothers in 1929, providing the seed money for the creation of automobiles. Toyoda Automatic Loom Works formed an Automobile Division on September 1, 1933, and formally proclaimed its plan to start manufacturing automobiles on January 29, 1934, both under the guidance of Kiichiro Toyoda, the founder's son. On August 28, 1937, the name “Toyota Motor Co.” was officially registered as a separate entity from Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd. Under Kiichiro’s leadership, Toyota developed revolutionary production methods that would become known as the “Toyota Production System." This system combined both human and machine labor to achieve greater efficiency and cost savings than traditional mass production methods at the time. By 1941, 70% of all cars sold in Japan were Toyotas – making it by far the leading car manufacturer in Japan at that time. In 1945, following World War II, Toyota began producing larger vehicles for export to America under its new brand name – Lexus – to compete more effectively with American automakers like General Motors and Chrysler Corporation. At this time, only luxury cars were exported from Japan; however, this changed when Honda Motors began exporting smaller cars to America starting in 1968 (the same year that Honda introduced their Civic model). This shift forced Toyota to focus on developing smaller cars for export as well to remain competitive.
Post-War Success
The story of Toyota wasn't always one of success and recognition. In the aftermath of World War II, the company was struggling to survive, facing a ravaged economy, limited resources, and a scarcity of skilled labor. Yet despite these challenges, Toyota managed to rise from the ashes, transform itself into a global powerhouse, and set a new standard for excellence in the automobile industry.
Tumblr media
Toyota Production System. Photo by Avi Alpert. Flickr.   Embracing Lean Manufacturing One of Toyota's key strategies for success was the development of the "Toyota Production System," a groundbreaking approach to manufacturing that focused on maximizing efficiency, reducing waste, and empowering workers. This system, also known as "lean manufacturing," helped Toyota streamline operations, eliminate unnecessary costs, and create higher-quality products at a faster pace than its competitors. By instilling a culture of continuous improvement and empowering employees to identify and solve problems, Toyota was able to achieve levels of productivity and quality that were previously thought impossible.
Tumblr media
Model car factory production line. Photo by Mr Wabu. Flickr.   The Power of Kaizen Another critical factor in Toyota's success was the concept of "kaizen." Kaizen is a Japanese term that means "continuous improvement," and it's a philosophy that Toyota has ingrained into its DNA. The idea behind kaizen is that even the smallest improvements, made consistently over time, can lead to significant gains in efficiency, quality, and profitability. Toyota encourages its employees to constantly look for ways to improve their work and the company's processes. By embracing kaizen, Toyota has been able to stay at the forefront of the automobile industry and maintain its position as a leader in innovation and quality.   Customer First Toyota has always placed a high priority on its customers, recognizing that their satisfaction is critical to the company's success. To this end, Toyota has invested heavily in research and development, using customer feedback to inform its product designs and features. It has also established a reputation for exceptional customer service, striving to provide personalized attention and support to every customer. By putting the customer first, Toyota has built a loyal following of customers who trust and value the company's products and services.   Global Expansion Toyota's postwar success was not limited to Japan. The company recognized the importance of expanding its operations globally and set out to establish a strong presence in markets around the world. Toyota began exporting its vehicles in the 1950s and gradually expanded its production and sales operations to countries such as the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. In the years since Toyota has continued to grow and now operates production facilities and sales networks in more than 190 countries and territories. This global expansion has allowed Toyota to capitalize on new markets, diversify its customer base, and further solidify its position as a world leader in the automobile industry.

TOYOTA MIRAI. Photo by niconico0. Flickr.   Sustainability and Social Responsibility In recent years, Toyota has made a concerted effort to be a more socially responsible company, embracing sustainability as a core value. Toyota has invested heavily in green technologies, such as hybrid and electric vehicles, and has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions and environmental impact. It has also prioritized corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as supporting disaster relief efforts and promoting education and community development. By taking a proactive approach to sustainability and social responsibility, Toyota has demonstrated its commitment to being a responsible and ethical global business leader.

Global Expansion
In 1957, Toyota established its U.S. subsidiary called Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc., making it one of the earliest Japanese companies to expand into international markets. By 1966 they had sold their millionth vehicle in North America and continued to grow throughout South America as well as Europe and Asia over time. In 1984, they established their luxury division Lexus which became highly successful almost immediately after launch.
Conclusion
Toyota has become one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers due to its commitment to innovation, customer service, and global expansion. The company has embraced kaizen principles which focus on continuous improvement in order to remain at the forefront of automotive technology. Toyota also places a high priority on sustainability and social responsibility initiatives that demonstrate their dedication to being an ethical business leader. With operations now reaching countries all around the world, it is clear that Toyota’s strategy for success is working - showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon!   Sources: THX News, Wikipedia & Toyota.
