Cold Rain/Hot Steel - Drabble Duo

Cold Rain
“It’s time for you to practice with the real thing.”
That’s when it finally hit Vel — the weight of the decision she had made months earlier, when she told Luthen she’d join him. The woman supervising her training took the stun blaster from her hands and gave her a real one. The glint of the metal was different. It felt heavier in her hands.
Vel pointed it at the target and felt the rain hitting her head and the mud under her knees. She braced herself against a tree, as if to shield her body.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Shoot.
Hot Steel
It was never a choice for Cinta; any decision was ripped from her hands when she saw her sister’s body on the ground, outside their home. The anger turned from fire to smolder, and it kept her warm in the cold rain, as she ran from target to target practicing her aim.
Mud splashed beneath her feet as she wove through the training course. Breathe in, breathe out, shoot. Run. Breathe in, breathe out, shoot. Run. She was never going to end up anywhere else — the blaster in her hands was held tight.
End the Empire. That's all that matters.
