Love In Taipei was just ehh. I haven’t read the books so my opinion is based solely on the movie and it just was not doing it for me.
The romance between Ever and both male leads just didn’t seem to develop at all. For like 85% of the movie she was with Rick and then all of a sudden she’s all in for Xavier. Beyond a few looks and a couple conversations they hadn’t built any sort of relationship and then boom together.
The lead actress who played Ever- Ashley Liao was just okay, it really felt like she was reading from cards to remember her dialog; weird pauses before starting a sentence, and no emotion in her speech. Also she’s supposedly 21 (the description of the movie on IMDb says she’s 18 but she literally says “21 years ago they had me” in the first 30 seconds of the movie) , but nothing about her acting or the writing makes it seem like these people are older than Kitty from XO, Kitty. Xavier and Rick were just as bland, Xavier- Nico Hiraga did a bit better showing his emotion, but not by much and Ross Butler-Rick was about what you’d expect if you’ve seen any other teen movie/tv show he’s been in.
This really should’ve been presented as a series and not a hour and half movie. After reading the summary of the book on Wiki, so much seems to be missing and so much is just left unanswered.
Rating 3/10, definitely don’t recommend if you’ve read the books and unless you really love bad teen romance, this is a skip.
The best part of the movie was her Aunt Shu, Cindy Cheung, she was funny and thoughtful and stole every scene she was in.

We the People: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow exhibition February 2 through April 16, 2023 
The Ontario Museum of History & Art and guest curators Riea Owens and Dr. Patricia Jessup-Woodlin invite you to our upcoming exhibition, We the People: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, running from Thursday, February 2, to Sunday, April 16, 2023. The Preamble states, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." From an open call, 61 artists were selected and will be on view in three of the Museum’s galleries. The artworks on view question and interpret the Preamble's complexities and contradictions.
We the People: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow brought an overwhelming number of excellent submissions that made the selection process challenging for the guest curators. The artworks will move the audience through a multitude of emotions as they consider such wide ranging topics as the racial divide, social injustice, voter suppression, environmental concerns, women's rights, immigration reform, and more.
This is an excellent opportunity for the museum audience to view a vast diversity of art and artists representative of We the People, said guest curator Dr. Patricia Jessup-Woodlin. This exhibit combines diverse artistic approaches, including site-specific installations, multimedia works, and traditional media such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, and collage, to challenge and engage the viewer on these political issues. Through the power of art, the exhibition hopes to inspire empathy, understanding, and a sense of shared purpose among its audience as we work together to create a more just and equitable society for all. The community is invited to the artist reception on Saturday, February 18, from 6 PM to 9 PM. Also, join us for a moderated conversation on March 4, 2023, from 2 PM to 4 PM, with guest curators Riea Owens and Dr. Patricia Jessup-Woodlin, and artists featured in We the People. The discussion will focus on artistic practices and perspectives about the Preamble’s phrase “We the People.” The Museum’s programs are held on-site and are free to the public. Holly Chou (The Big Sick) is set as the lead, and Cindy Cheung (13 Reasons Why), Stephen Park (In Living Color), Kelly Hu (Arrow), Helen Hong (The Thundermans), Ki Hong Lee (The Maze Runner franchise), Ashley Park (Tales of the City) and John Gemberling (Broad City) round out the series-regular cast of ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot from Emmy-winning Rick & Morty writer Jessica Gao, Imagine Television Studios, ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios.
Written by Gao, who is of Chinese descent, the untitled series is about Janet Zhao (Chou), a first generation Chinese-American woman who struggles to set healthy boundaries with her crazy, exhausting family.
