'The gang at Peaky Blinders is paying tribute to one of its own, toasting Cillian Murphy on the global success of Oppenheimer. Murphy, who played Tommy Shelby in the hit Steven Knight-created period drama from 2013-2022, plays the titular J Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s epic film which has received high praise and grossed over $400M global in less than two weeks.
On its social media channels today, the official Peaky Blinders account wrote: “Cillian, from the moment you donned Tommy’s cap it was clear that you are at the top of your craft. Your performance as Oppenheimer is magnificent.”
Peaky Blinders executive producer Caryn Mandabach today also told Deadline of Murphy, “He truly deserves all love from people who know him best.”
Murphy’s portrayal of Oppenheimer has drawn huzzahs from many corners. Deadline’s Pete Hammond in his review said the actor “captures all the contradictions of this brilliant, tortured, complicated man” and called the film “the most important motion picture of 2023, and maybe far beyond.”
Universal began overseas release on Oppenheimer on July 19 with the film defying expectations to launch at $180.4M worldwide. It has seen terrific holds, and through this past Sunday, topped $400M global. Through Tuesday, its international box office cume is $255.5M with worldwide reaching $443.9M.
Murphy completed his nearly 10-year arc as Peaky’s Tommy when the series wrapped with Season 6 last year, scoring his first BAFTA nomination for the show. Across its run, the saga developed a rabid global fanbase. Murphy was also an executive producer on the series.
Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, he told Deadline of Peaky, “The show is a kind of global phenomenon and we never expected it… I feel really proud of it and that’s the thing about television, it’s continually growing an audience and people are rewatching it. I mean, it’s kind of staggering how popular the thing is still… I still haven’t figured it out – it’s still kind of bizarre to me, but it’s wonderful. It means that we did something good.”'

In their B+ review for IndieWire, Kate Erbland states that there's "an inherent tension in watching anyone do anything that might kick up a bit of noise. "The layered sound design, fittingly, is a thing of beauty," writes David Rooney for The Hollywood Reporter. And like the first film, this one also benefits immeasurably from Marco Beltrami’s vigorous orchestral score, which shifts between ominous groans and thundering high drama, dialing up the tension throughout." Parts teeming with noise-sensitive monsters that kill anything unlucky enough to move above a whisper. Once out in the open, the family crosses paths with a jaded survivor named Emmett (Peeky Blinders' Cillian Murphy). Naturally, the sound design once again takes center stage as Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) and her two children Regan and Marcus (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) leave the relative safety of their farmhouse for parts unknown. Per Deadline's Pete Hammond, the follow-up feels even scarier in the wake of the global health crisis. "This is a sequel that seems viable, particularly after living through a pandemic that weirdly reinforces the themes of survival that run through the heart of Krasinski’s horror show and might give it more pertinence that had it been released when initially planned," reads his review. "On the most basic level, it definitely is a terrifying time at the movies, if that is what you are looking for this summer." "Krasinski so effectively embraces the opposite strategy: Less is more, suggestion can be scarier than showing everything, and few things are more unnerving than silence." "If you’re vaccinated and feeling safe enough to step foot outside your home, Krasinski has crafted a followup that justifies the trip," writes Variety's Peter Debruge. But is writer-director John Krasinski's horror sequel worth an in-person journey to the theater? According to the first reviews, that answer is yes. After more than a year of COVID-related delays, A Quiet Place Part IIis finally scheduled to noiselessly makes its way into theaters next Friday (May 28) for Memorial Day weekend.

It’s official, the paperwork finally went through making Cillian and Saoirse the proud owners of their very first restaurant, Hammond Eggs! A farm to table country restaurant, that of course includes all day breakfast considering it’s Cillian’s favorite meal.

Saoirse had every intention of going to the doctor for a check up today to figure out what this mysterious illness could be, but after sleeping through nearly the entire day only waking up to puke, she was reminded of the last time she had these symptoms and decided to take a pregnancy test, just to rule that out. After learning of her low fertility paired with the fact that she was only able to conceive Morning with the help of treatments, Saoirse never would have dreamt of conceiving on her own. Yet, the test was positive. Actually, all four she took were. After the initial shock settled and was replaced with pure excitement, Saoirse ran downstairs to find Cillian in the garden to share the big news. Confused as to what could have his sick wife in such a good mood, Cillian set down his tools and got up to meet her, and when she handed him the positive test he could not believe it. He stared at it in complete disbelief for a moment while she explained that there’s three more positive tests sitting upstairs. He pulled her into the tightest hug and began crying over how happy he is that they’re finally welcoming another member to the family, and that Morning finally gets to be a big sister. Both Saoirse and Cillian had always planned on trying for another baby once the dust settles at the new restaurant, so the timing is just a little overwhelming, but they wouldn’t change a single thing.

After a long day at the swimming hole and running around outside playing with Morning, mom and dad finally got a moment to spend some time enjoying the cool Granite Falls night air together. Tomorrow is their last night in the mountains before heading back home to the farm and beginning to get the new restaurant ready for opening, so quiet moments together like this are much needed and very special to the both of them.

With Rowan and Weston making their relationship official earlier this summer, they decided it was time for him to move out of Cillian and Saoirse’s spare room and into Weston’s place. Cillian helped his little brother pack up all of his belongings, just like he did back in San Myshuno, and both brothers were feeling extra emotional about it. Rowan is still so grateful his big brother was so quick to open up his home to him despite just becoming a father and having so much to do around the farm already, and Cillian was so proud of how far his little brother has come since moving back to Henford and he’s overjoyed knowing his brother is happy, healthy, and has a loving partner. And although his new home is just a hop and skip up the road from their house, Morning is still too young to understand and was so sad her favorite uncle is leaving.
