The next time you find yourself listening to Oh Little Town of Bethlehem this winter, remember that Bethlehem is on the Palestinian side of the border. When Israel inevitably starts bombing the West End, you're losing more than Muslim culture. You are losing...
Tumblr media
The site of Christ's birth.
Tumblr media
The oldest city in the world.
Tumblr media
The home of the best chicken shawarma I've ever tasted.
And so. Much. More.
It's easy to distance yourself from the war if you've never been there. But I have, and every day I ache for the people I met who might well be dead. The Egyptian man who offered me coffee on that hot, hot day. The little boy who stopped to chat about how wonderful life can be. The young Muslim woman who was the newest generation of mosaic craftsmen in a centuries old family business.
It's not just Palestine. And they're not just Palestinians.

one of the things I shall have to think through now is how to switch to a new church, on account of things going down Real Bad at my current one, and a plethora of headache-causing reasons that I am too tired to go into, but suffice it to say........ I can't stay at this one long-term and I need to figure out how to a) say goodbye and b) find a new community

Ykw, someone's gotta say it
I've been thinking about this for days to weeks now.
I know Israel is a predominantly Jewish country but that does not excuse anti-semitism toward any Jew.
A country's government does not necessarily speak for its people.
Not to mention — and I have to say this as a religious Catholic — I've observed something hauntingly familiar with the use of religion as a reasoning behind crimes.
The Catholic church is neither perfect nor pure. Her religious leaders have committed many atrocities in the name of God. Still, even with our history, it does not make us who we are. We are not our past nor are we defined by it — Catholicism is defined by our beliefs and how we act on them.
Now, the haunting familiarity of using religion as a reasoning for crimes like genocide... it's not new.
You know what else isn't new?
Such crimes being done by men in power.
I've also noticed how they could easily use religion as their reason why.
My belief is that we all believe in the same God regardless of religion or way of life; He has different names in different cultures. We all know Him differently from a collective to an individual level. If there's anything we have in common, it's that we see God in our love for one another...
...so to say that it would be God's will to take away so many lives... that is not love. That is putting words in God's mouth. That is using the name of the Lord in vain.
Anyway, if you believe for one second that Israel is doing this in the name of their predominant religion, I implore you to be critical about it.
Also, please read this post by user asiraphale.
That's all. Thank you.

the bad thing about assuming that someone in a show is pretending to be evil or not really dead, is that it can 1. Ruin the emotion the show is trying to elicit, and 2. Can lead to disappointment if your wrong

Sunset Arc 1 & The Church
Tumblr media
The oldest collective, The Church is a group of people with knacks (they call them “gifts”) and, to a much lesser extent, normal humans who’ve committed themselves to the goal of ridding the world of Anthropophagi (which they call “dogs”). Church members are all highly religious and view their knacks as given to them by their god/s to aid them in their fight against the dogs. SolCorp (wrongly) dismisses The Church as a rag-tag bunch of uncivilized zealots.
There is no one set faith among them. They come from all backgrounds, cultures, spiritual practices, belief systems, and religions. Despite this, conflict among members is almost nonexistent because working together to further their sacred calling is far more important than anything else. The culture is that of trust and mutual respect.
The Church is the least organized of the three groups, with no central authority or leadership at all. They exist as an ever-shifting chain of houses and rentals called Sanctuaries where all who enter fall under the protection of The Church.
They do their best to keep knowledge of knacks and the Anthropophagi from regular humans as a way to protect them, but without any sort of cover-up structure, SolCorp cleans up after their exposures more often than not.

Conflict of Nations and Heavenly Powers
1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshaz′zar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, that is, the Tigris, 5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with gold of Uphaz. 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the noise of a multitude. 7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me; my radiant appearance was fearfully changed, and I retained no strength. 9 Then I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in a deep sleep with my face to the ground.
10 And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, give heed to the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood up trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your mind to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. 13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, so I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia 14 and came to make you understand what is to befall your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.”
15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and was dumb. 16 And behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and I retain no strength. 17 How can my lord’s servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.”
18 Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19 And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And when he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I am through with him, lo, the prince of Greece will come. 21 But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince. — Daniel 10 | Revised Standard Version (RSV) Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright © 1946, 1952, and 1971 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. 🇺🇦🇷🇺 🚨 UKRANIAN AUTHORITIES TO CLOSE THE "ANCIENT CHERNIGOV" ORTHODOX CHURCH AFTER TRANSFER TO STATE OWNERSHIP
The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) announced the closure of the "Ancient Chernigov" Church located in Chernikov city in the northeast of Ukraine Wednesday.
According to the UOC, the ancient churches of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve, the "Ancient Chernigov" church is to be closed after transfer to State-ownership, and only churches that are part of the "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" (OCU), an entity invented by Ukrainian authorities in response to Russia's Special Military Operation launched in February 2022, are to remain accessible.
Just one day earlier, on Tuesday November 14th, a commission as part of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine completed the work of transferring to state-ownership the objects of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Ancient Chernigov", including the churches and cathedrals used by the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), as reported by the department.
According to the report, the UOC states that some monuments are in "unsatisfactory condition" and recommended the agency carry out restoration and conservation work.
According to the website for the UOC, “From the very beginning of the commission’s review, the churches of the UOC were closed to the public, access to them was blocked by people in camouflage uniforms. As for the published conclusions about the state of architectural monuments, for believers in the Chernihiv region they will mean that the Trinity, Spassky and Assumption churches, along with the relics Saints Theodosius and Philaret and Saint Lawrence of Chernigov will be taken away from the UOC and closed to visitors. Churches of the OCU remain freely accessible."
The Ukrainian authorities, over the last year, have launched successive waves of persecution against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for its supposed connections with Russia. This comes at a time when simply praising something considered Russian can lead to suspicions, oppression and even imprisonment as Russia's Special Military Operation closes in on the end of its second year.
Local authorities in various regions of Ukraine have banned the activities of the UOC, while the Ukrainian Parliament passed in its first reading, a bill to ban the UOC and its activities throughout the country.
In some cases, sanctions have been imposed on certain representatives of UOC Clergy; while the Ukrainian Intelligence Services (SBU) has opened investigations into members of the clergy, conducting "counterintelligence activities" against clergy members, including conducting searches of churches and monasteries, as well as Bishops and priests.
According to the report, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture examined 18 objects, including the building complexes of the Yelets and Trinity monasteries, the Transfiguration Cathedral, Pyatnitskaya and the Catherine churches.
