Part two of this
an: uhuhuh it's my first time writing smut, soooooo, forgive me if its, idk, weird(??)
Chuuya x reader
You grinned at your lover, sat opposite to you, dressed in one of his finest suits. His flaming red hair framed his pale face and accentuated the blue in his beautiful eyes. The suit he wore was a bloody dark maroon, like the wine he sipped from a gold laced glass, that he held elegantly in ivory leather gloves. An ivory undercoat and gold patterned tie, along with an extravagant hat completed Chuuyas look. The golden chain hanging off the edge twinkled as he grinned back at you, dressed equally extravagantly.
You could write endless paragraphs describing your breathtaking look, and how perfect it was, but it would all be worthless, as, in a matter of a few minutes, you'd both end up on the super soft king sized bed of the expensive hotel Chuuya had taken you to, completely naked, save for the silken sheets tangled between your limbs.
Your breath came out quick and short as you dug your pretty blood-maroon tinged nails into your lovers back, being rocked back and forth rapidly. Chuuya had lost all sense expect you. He breathed you, he saw you, he felt only you.
"Chhuuya! Chuuya...fuck!"
Your voice was only more encouraging for the pretty redhead, as he sped up.
"Oh..!"
You could feel yourself edge closer to an amazing orgasm, only to be flipped suddenly, and feel chuuya pulling out.
You whimpered at the lost orgasm, but shrieked when you felt sharp teeth bite into your plump behind.
"Chu! It hurts!"
Chuuya swore under his breath as he realised what he had done. He looked down at the mark he had left and his eyes rolled back. He had completely lost control over what he was doing. The moment he had seen you walk out of the room, dressed to the nines, his head had been filled with thoughts of fukcing you... in atleast a hundred different ways.
You felt soft lips kiss your bruise, an unsaid apology, before you felt two gloved fingers enter you suddenly. You gasped, only to moan as they immediately began pounding into you, not giving you a second to adjust.
Chuuya pulled the handcuff binding your wrists together, making your back arch deliciously. He watched, pupils dilated as you writhed in pleasure. He didn't stop the torture, rather, he used his thumb to cast a spell on your clit.
You couldn't think straight. You just felt pleasure, and the coil in your tummy tighten impossibly, before you came, your vision going white and your eyes rolling back into your skull as you basked in the glorious feeling.
Chuuya watched, love struck and driven by lust, as he planned all the things he was going to do next. He had, afterall, collected the finest toys, just for that occasion.

ok but imagine if u will: tiger hybrids being typically fairly big n strong bc theyre humans w big cat genes thus their sizes n strengths r more advanced, but torahime turning out 2 get the short end of the stick n hes abt the size of a normal not-even-very-tall human possibly w average or p good strength but nothing Extraordinary.
n now imagine, if u will: nakagami is a researcher n 1 of the things hes in is the research n such of hybrids. n he takes tora in instead of letting him b taken out/killed/etc 4 being the runt of the litter/oddly small. he says they can use this opportunity 2 see why tora is the way he is, n how gene distribution can cause things like this 2 happen in hybrids n etc etc. n the others were like... ok. u raise a fair point. fine, but take care of him mainly by urself (w possibly some assistants, jus not w the whole team/others)
so tora's extremely grateful 2 nakagami n imprints on him Further n dedicates himself 2 him n tries extremely hard 2 prove himself worthy n show tht, even if he's smaller, even if he's not as superior as the other hybrids n his brethren, tht he can still show strength n intelligence n animal instincts n even use said strengths 2 help nakagami, as thanks 4 taking a chance on him.
of course, after a while, most of the things tht can b gleaned from tora research-wise r over, but he's kind of stuck w tora now. n thus he starts 2 neglect him a bit more n more as he branches out 2 other research n such, but tht jus makes tora try harder n harder 2 b of assistance. look, sensei! he can b ur assistant! look, sensei! he can help w things regarding hybrids bc he's 1 of them! look, sensei! pls don't leave this tiger cub torahime! 😿

Yall we need to stop overly fanonizing the twins, I know its really fun to treat them like your OCs and give them lots headcanons, fan art and fan fiction etc. since Brawl Stars usually gives you bread crumbs about the lore (sometimes even huge chunks) and its your job to fill in the gaps. But like this mischaracterization of them bothered me a lot and yk what? I need to speak up about it. Its also okay if you enjoy these types of characterization of them, I dont mind. I just wanted to share my point of view.
I seen a lot of stuff that would depict Larry as someone who would cry if Lawrie scolded him or “he wouldnt even hurt a fly🥺🥺” type of person. WELL NUH UH!!?
Tumblr media
In their lose animation, Lawrie most likely shouts at him and Larry looks scared.
Tumblr media
But then Larry fights back and HEAD BUTS HIM? It gets physical real quick.
Tumblr media
Finally, in this pic, it even looks like Larry punched him in the face. Also Larry looks mad.(LAWRIE LOOKS LIKE HES ABOUT TO SNEEZE LMAO😭😭)
IN CONCLUSION MY MOST BELOVEDS AND DEAR FRIENDS‼️‼️ Larry is not some innocent baby. He can stand up for himself when he has to. Please dont depict him as someone who is not capable of getting angry. He can.
Besides, Im dating both of them so-
Have a nice week friends!😍❤️

I had a dream last night that Tears of the kingdom had a Twitter takeover.
It involved, Link, Zelda, Sidon, Riju, Tulin, Yunobo, and Mineru.
And they were explaining how Zelda’s powers activated allowing them to be outside their time (or something) and until they could figure away out, they were answering questions.
(Link wrote down his answers and Zelda read them, with him grunting for approval)
(Here’s what I remember from my dream)
-Yunobo’s favorite food is Curry Rock roast (basically a rock roast with Goron spice and rice) Link thinks the dish is good. Much to Zelda’s dismay.
-Tulin’s best shot was 1000 meters away bullseye while flying.
-Riju wants to try Noble pursuit. (Which according to Link has a heavy hydro melon taste)
-Zelda and Link Do live together, link offered while the castle was being renovated. Eventually the people started Calling it Zelda’s house as Link would often go out exploring and Zelda was at the house more often. All of the sages have visited the place, Tulin asked if they both live there, why is there only one bed. (It was quickly shifted to the next question.)
-Link’s favorite veggie is pumpkin, and likes all foods that use pumpkin.
-Sidon still thinks about his Sister, and wished she could have been there for his coronation.
-Sidon’s favorite activity to do is waterfall surfing.
-Yunobo is apparently very popular among Gerudo.
-Tulin has a crush on someone in his village but denies it.
-According to Link and Zelda, Riju is a lot like Urbosa, and is most like the champion they are inspired by.
-mineru can actually see, hear and feel when possessing her robot suit, she wanted to add smell but she could never figure it out.
-Mineru said her favorite sage was Zelda, as she felt she was the most friendly with. Her least favorite was the Sage of water. (Something about the sage having some beef)
-Mineru says that Link is a lot like Rauru, willing to risk everything to protect what he loves. (Zelda is apparently very flustered by this comment.
-Link confirms he does remember everything from the past. After beating Calamity Ganon and spending time with Zelda, the other parts of his memory returned. Though he doesn’t dwell on them much.
-Link says his favorite ability with Rauru’s arm is Ultrahand. He likes building.
-Zelda explains how the ancient sheikah tech fell apart after calamity ganon’s defeat. Purah managed to salvage it to make the towers and create the Purah pad, but Link lost the ability to use the runes as the Sheikah slate stopped working.
-Zelda comments that Link has the weirdest sleep schedule. Often going days without sleep if busy, but the moment he isn’t. He can sleep for days in a row, only waking up to eat.
-Each Sage’s favorite monster:
Sidon prefers Moblins, as they are a fair challenge but not smart.
Tulin likes chuchu’s as one shot they burst like a balloon
Riju prefers Lizolfos, they are quick fighters and help keep reflexes sharp.
Yunobo prefers Octoroks, as they fire a snack at you
Mineru prefers Taluses, as they often have ore which can be harvested,
Zelda prefers Bokoblins, as they are easy to deal with and fun to trick.
Link surprises everyone by saying Lynels. Link says they drop the best weapons. And Link wants to train one to be an ally.
-according to Mineru, Ganondorf, before he became the demon king was very beloved by his people. And many considered him attractive. Mineru did not think he was attractive but it may have been because she saw his nastier side.
-According to Mineru, Zelda often talked to Rauru about Link.

Gundam Schwarzette Theory Time....again
Tumblr media
So the latest theory going is that Suletta is going to end up in it, which I do agree with, but my current thoughts are all around Lauda:
Tumblr media
We've all been thinking that Suletta is going to use her connections to GUND-ARM to basically steal it. I think she's going to be given it, and I think Lauda is going to give it to her and in fact BEG her to pilot it because after the events of episode 19 I think Guel is going to end up in trouble with Shaddiq; and Lauda, seeing no way to save his beloved brother, will turn to the person he hates the most with the weapon he has in hand and turn it over to her.
Tumblr media
That will complete his arc, that started its turn already with him accepting that Earthians are real people when Chuchu saved him during the Dawn of Fold attack, and it will show him growing and moving past his dislike for Suletta for the greater good.
That's my thoughts anyways, we'll see how it plays out.

A Little challenge for u, dear author-san! Set ur mutuals up with someone and tell them why u set them up
I set u up with the beloved Yuuji Itadori, because u are both sweet and u would be an amazing couple!! Yuujis favorite sign of affection for u is cuddles and smooches on the forehead! friends to lovers, with yuuji being the sweet oblivious one and you being the quiet, to slightly chaotic friend! yuuji initiates the first kith by 'accident'. once u 2 confess its a instant click, with you 2 being the hyper lovey-dovey couple who likes to binge-watch anime/cheesy movies while cuddling and sharing popcorn only 2 fall asleep together in the middle of the movie. another thing yuuji likes 2 do is touching ur hair!! he gently strokes it while ur sleeping/cuddling with him. whispered' ily' in the middle of the night and texts/phone calls so u don't sleep alone. love u chuchu♥
aaaa omg anon this is so cute 🥹🫶 and if i were to set some of my moots with a jjk character, it would go like:
@yuujisuku with sukuna. i feel like gabs is such a sweetheart, i can see them being the sunshine x grumpy dynamic. gabs would totally be the kind of person who gets excited over little things, and sukuna would just follow her around (even if he says he hates it). it's a love-hate relationship with sukuna them both, gabs would TOTALLY force sukuna to do things he doesn't usually do. i can see her placing hello kitty stickers around him while he's asleep, and would be all frazzled when he wakes up because she had no idea what to do next. hide, run, play dead? they're gonna be funny together.
@rrairey with gojo. i can see kai as a more dominant one in the relationship between them both — even if gojo seems like the dominant one (kai is). STRICT X GOOFY. kai is the strict one, and gojo is the goofy one. i feel like kai would actually get things straight with him and what to do, and gojo just goes "okay, i trust my gf and i'm going to do what she tells me to do". but ofc they're not going to be all sunshine and rainbows, arguments are calm and it flows smoothly because i feel like kai would be the type to be straight and tell people where their mistake is. communication is the number one thing in their relationship. gojo is clingy but kai just lets him do it because she obv loves him.
@kodzukenmaaa with nanami. honestly, nadine is such a sweetheart and nanami is also a sweetheart. their relationship is as cool as cucumber most of the time, almost no arguments, just serious conversations. i feel like they'd be the type of couple to match color palettes, especially outfits. cute pictures, especially mirror selfies. A LOT OF PRINCESS TREATMENT. and nanami brings her out to fine dining occasionally, and a lot of flowers for nadine of course. just honestly the cutest couple ever? nanami texts nadine if he's going to be home late, or if something comes up out of the blue, he communicates well and i feel like nadine is also the type of person who communicates well. honestly, couple of the year.
@giannitaa with gojo. GIA IS ALSO SUCH A SWEETHEART. just honestly, i feel like they would be the sweetheart x goofy dynamic. but gia could be strict at times, and gojo thinks that side of them is so attractive (and scary). gojo whines to them occasionally, someone yelled at him? he goes to them and tells them about it. someone took the last kikufuku? he tells them about it. gia always takes their time to hear his stories out, i feel like they're more of a listener and gojo is the speaker in the relationship. gojo spoils them a lot. expect a lot of luxury items from him because that's his love language, even if gia tells him not to — he doesn't listen and just buys them more things. cutest couple ever.
i have a lot more moots, but i would have to go a few miles in this post. so i'm gonna do some, make sure to check out their works!

top unhinged things book xiao hua has done in canon, off the top of my head:
5. loudly told the hei xiazi + chuchu story to Everyone in detail while gossiping at reunion dinner
4. thrown li cu, su wan, yang hao, and liang wan out of a moving train
3. his entire plan in the post-reboot sequels that i still cannot unpack emotionally
2. called wu xie 'beloved' in front of a room of people who actively wanted to kill them
1. sniffed wu xie's ass

the AMAZING @flutefemme also drew some beautiful art of a scene from this chapter!!!! it perfectly captures the vibe of meeting in secret by candlelight <333 please send some love her way for her awesome art!!! thank u flute for drawing for my fic!!
Tumblr media
Rating: T
Summary: Princess Zelda is cruelly aware of her destiny, prophesied since a time Long, Long Ago. Though she gives herself to it wholly so that the Future may be peaceful, her destined Hero Link will do anything to save her.
Disclaimer: This fic contains references to major TotK spoilers.
Full fic below the cut for those who cannot access AO3.
Zelda is cruelly aware of her destiny.
It is painted on the walls around her, spoken by the tongues of those dear, revealed by the Goddess Hylia. It is engraved in her heart and struck into her soul every morning she wakes up to greet the new day, and it will be struck into her tomorrow and the day after until she has spent all her sunrises and sunsets. She knows that one day, the sun will rise, and she shall not see another. Not in a day, a year, a millennia–it will be an eternity until she can see that light again.
Princess Zelda of Hyrule knows her path. It has been laid out before her, crafted carefully for thousands and thousands and thousands of years, by those before her and those who will come after, by great powers beyond her understanding even as the woman closest to the Goddess. Each step she takes brings her closer to the end of her path so that another may be born anew.
She keeps to herself now. Long past are the days of running through the halls, playing in the gardens, and sneaking out to watch ChuChu experiments. Zelda elects to spend her time praying or studying ancient literature to better understand her role. Impa does not shy away from it now either.
“There is no other way,” her teacher bluntly says. “Sacrifice is the only path to holding back this evil. If you continue to live, the greater the evil will become, Princess Zelda.”
Impa is cold. She does not greet Zelda with friendly words anymore, not after her mother sent Purah away and gave Impa a fiery scolding. Her mother understands better than anyone the dark histories the Princess is now receiving, having been raised for the same purpose but lucky enough that the Calamity decided to skip her.
It leaves a bitter taste in her mouth. Why was she tasked with this? Was it selfish if she wanted to live?
Ever since the day she and her fateful partner delved into the depths of Hyrule Castle, hidden behind that horrible bookshelf, she knew the simple answer. Destiny is unforgiving.
If she could spit in the face of it, she would. But her mother had taught her better. Head high, eyes forward, shoulders back. Always carry yourself with poise.
“The people look to you. You are their hope,” Zelda was told.
“They don’t know that.”
“It’s better that way.”
Zelda had come to learn that keeping secrets was one of the Royal Family’s many talents. The people knew of the Long Ago and the Calamity, but they did not know that in the Now it was happening before their very eyes. Increased monster sightings, strange natural phenomena, Princess Zelda and her Hero Link being prophecies of doom. She shouldered this alone.
No. Not alone.
Even though, at night, Hyrule Castle is lonely. At night, it transforms into a quiet, empty husk. Not a whisper nor breeze echoes through its halls, illuminated only by the moon, and Zelda steps through it silently. She is acquainted with this vacant feeling. Though it seems that sounds are swallowed by the dark, sometimes she swears she can hear them–her, from all of her past lives, all of her screaming at her to run. To not succumb to what they did. But why would she, if this was the path that had been laid before her?
Zelda knows her role well. The little girl who had once yearned for normalcy is gone. In her place is Hyrule’s perfect, obedient, holy Zelda.
She slips into the library, a speck among the towering, shadowy shelves. Silently, she glides across the quiet room and sidles into the blocked-off portion of the library containing all the untranslated ancient texts where, seven years ago, her life had changed for the worse. Despite blocking off the section, the bookshelf hiding the secret passage is easily movable and budges with the slightest push.
After winding through Hyrule Castle’s seemingly endless halls, evading the night guard, and dodging the candlelight of maids hurrying to complete their final duties, she descends the stairs, down into the depths below where she had discovered her fate. She comes around the bend and she finally
“made it, huh?” a voice teases.
Link.
A weight lifts off her shoulders at the sight of him, dimly lit by the small candle sitting to his side. He’s handsome in the light, she thinks with a smile.
“I’m sorry,” she says, walking up to him. The carvings on the wall always give her pause, but there’s no better place in the castle for them to meet where they can just… be. In this little hovel within the depths of the castle, they are Zelda and Link, not Princess and Hero. In this little hovel, they are in love, and in this little hovel they hope.
“Romance is strictly forbidden,” her mother had once told her. “Each time the bond deepened to such an extent, the Hero did all he could to bring the Princess back. Each time, he brought the evil back with her.” Staring out the window, eyes stony, she concluded, “Death is final.”
Zelda looks past him, eyes falling on the carved wall. It is a horrid reminder of her destiny, a non-negotiable fact of life she has spent the past seven years reckoning with. It is a weight she carries alone.
No. Not alone.
“You can sit, you know.” He’s teasing her again.
“Right. Sorry.”
“You don’t have to always apologize.”
She sits across from him, knees touching, and for some time they are silent. In the depths below Hyrule Castle, where their fate is scrawled on bricks, the Hero and the Princess soak in each other’s company.
“Tomorrow’s your birthday,” Link says.
“It is,” she agrees.
“Will you celebrate?”
His hands find hers, coarse fingers brushing against worn-down knuckles, but his touch is as soft as the candlelight.
“As I usually do, with a small cake and a gift or two.” Zelda sighs and pulls back. “There is not much time for celebrating.”
“There’s always time,” Link groans. “You need to take some time for yourself, really. Even I celebrate my birthday.”
Sometimes, he just doesn’t get it. Perhaps he never will. Does he understand what it’s like to spend five hours in a cold spring, begging the Goddess to please oh please grant her the powers necessary to save the world? Has he ever spent all night learning the ancient languages to better understand the texts given to her by Impa, all telling her how to best sacrifice herself? Zelda inhales deeply, holding back the burning words in her throat.
“It’s not that simple,” she tells him. “With each passing day, the threat grows larger. I need to work harder if we want to ensure that this works.” The carvings loom in the flickering light, drawing her gaze. “On the birthday of the Princess of the Long Ago, the Calamity awakened. Do you think she celebrated?”
Her eyes move to find his through the grim light, blue and bright, and he is so tired. The bags under his eyes are large and dark, his lips pulled into a tired smile at their eye contact. His eyelids are droopy, fighting a constant sleep. His skin, normally tan from days spent training and fighting under the sun, has started to pale.
He understands.
Link takes her hand again, gently pressing it to his lips. She wishes her knuckles would stay there forever. Eternity is a long time, but she would not mind spending it with him.
“Zelda,” he says, “once this is all over, we should leave.”
The Princess is taken aback, letting his suggestion hang between them. The Hero continues anyway.
“We can go somewhere far, far away.” His tired eyes are dreamy, drifting from her face to focus on his own imagination. “Somewhere with rolling green hills, and a lake where we can fish.”
“You are much more hopeful than me,” she teases with a grin. “I don’t dare fantasize.” And even though she has convinced herself there is no point in imagining a future, she pictures it in her mind. The tension in her muscles starts to dissipate and she worries she’ll melt. A sparkling blue lake brimming with fish, surrounded by dense forests, in the middle of nowhere, where nobody can reach them…
“You should try it sometime. It’s good for you,” Link suggests, and although his expression is teasing, his words are sincere. So, Zelda tries.
“On warm days, we can swim in the lake,” she musters, entertaining the idea. “Then we can go home and enjoy some tea afterwards, before turning in for the night.” Imagining such a peaceful scene feels like a sin, but when his palm comes to rest on her face, cupping her cheek, all notions of divinity leave her mind. With a sigh, she relaxes into his hand.
“We can get married,” Link dares to say. “Just us, by that lake, with only the birds and the water as our witnesses.”
Her breath catches in her throat and she wants to say yes right then and there, but her holy senses return for just a moment and she blurts, “And the Goddess Hylia.”
“No.” The Hero, chosen by her, shakes his head. “By that lake, there are no goddesses or calamities. There is only us.”
Then surely this lake is fictional, Zelda thinks. For so long she has tied herself to the Goddess and her wishes that to even think of a world without her is blasphemous. But something about the idea is charming… alluring, even, something she desires deep within her. A land, green and lush with sparkling blue waters, untouched by divinity or holy, otherworldly ambitions, a land where the Hero and the Princess are no longer tied to destiny or fate or duty. A land where they are simply Link and Zelda, where they are in love and they hope.
“I would like that,” is all she whispers.
“We have children.” Link strokes her cheek with his thumb. “Two of them, and a pet. A cat, maybe. And we live on that lake and teach them what normal kids are taught and we play with them, raise cows and ponies.”
“They are carefree.”
“Yes, and we live there for the rest of our days.”
Tears are pricking her eyes and she angles her head so he can’t see through the fickle light. “And those kids grow up, have children, and they spend their days there until we become part of the Long Ago, too.”
“And they are not Princess or Hero. Simply our sons and daughters.”
A silence looms, floating in the dusty air between them, and Zelda cannot bring her teary eyes to meet his once again. Because she knows–she knows it's wishful thinking, and that such a thing will never come to pass. For this eternity and the next and the next and the next, there will always be a Hero and a Princess, doomed and destined to save the world. The Princess and the Hero, by blood and soul, bound by fate, were doomed to a life of calamities. In the Now, in the Long Ago, and in the Far Away Future, there would never be a lake void of calamities and goddesses.
“Not in this life, Link.”
“No.” He looks down. “Not in this life.”
“And not in the next, either, or the one after,” she proceeds. Her posture straightens in an effort to hide the shaking she feels in her hands and the quivering in her lips as tears threaten to fall. “Perhaps it is not meant to be.”
She curses herself as his thumb swipes away an escaped tear and he moves to pull her in close, his other hand finding her back and nudging her into him. He is warm and strong, arms firmly wrapped around her, head placed atop hers. He knows it cannot be, and still he fantasizes, bringing her into his head and allowing her to live peacefully if only for a few moments, even in the shadow of her fate.
Her regrets are amplified when she is in his arms, the guilt washing over like a strong wave. In his arms, she is reminded of the talks from her mother and Impa that if she were to be romantic with him, as so many Heroes and Princesses had been before, it would spell the world’s doom. And yet she can’t help it. From such a young age they have relied on each other, understood one another in a way no one else could. It’s only natural, Zelda knows, that sharing a fate so deeply intertwined through thousands and thousands of years would result in, perhaps, a small kiss that became much more over the years; a kiss that turned the Princess and the Hero from an obligatory pair to a couple utterly devoted to each other.
As duty-bound and destiny-aware as the Princess of Hyrule is, she cannot deny her heart.
Link murmurs something in her ear and it makes her heart flutter and sink into her chest all at the same time, so full of love but also brimming with despair.
“My Zelda,” he sighs.
Not in this life, she thinks.
“I am one of many,” she says. One of many, in the Now and the Long Ago, that have sacrificed themselves, given up their bodies and hearts and minds and souls just to protect the world, protect people they did not know but were told from birth they are sworn to defend. “But I am the only one that is yours.”
His other hand cups her face, then, and he leans in, his lips touching hers softly. It is blissful. Zelda sighs into it, resting her palms on his shoulders. But… the guilt bites at her flesh and the regret eats at her heart, and she breaks away.
“Do you think that maybe… we’ve made a mistake?” she asks.
Link tilts his head as he usually does when he’s confused.
“I must… sacrifice myself.” She knows this. They both know this. Repeating it doesn’t make it vanish, and neither does ignoring it. His hand still finds hers and his thumb still rubs it soothingly, like it does every time she makes the statement. “And once I do, you’ll be alone.”
He breathes like he’s about to say something, but stops, and instead withdraws from their embrace to look up at the carvings. “Zelda.”
She hums in response.
“Does it have to be this way?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“I mean– isn’t there another way? I could save you and we could still end the Calamity–”
“No,” she cuts him off sharply. “You cannot. I must forfeit my being to seal the Calamity, and you will protect me while I do so. That is the only way.”
The Hero knows that romance is forbidden, too, but he assumes it is only because of royal policies and diplomacy and decorum and all the other political jargon he doesn’t quite understand. Impa has not taught him the consequences of love, and the Queen rarely speaks to him unless for formalities.
Her abrupt response shrinks him, his body leaning out of the light of the small candle. Through the dark, he asks, “Do you think we’ve made a mistake?”
And she spends the next few moments locked in her head. She has prayed countless times to Hylia not only for her powers to be unlocked, but for Link to please, Goddess-willing, obey the path that has been set before him, Hylia, to please guide him through his destiny so that he should not falter; so that he should not attempt to save her, so that the Calamity may be locked away for thousands of years once more. In her heart, she believes he won’t, that he loves her enough to let her die, loves her enough to fulfill the duty she has begged the Goddess to lead him through.
“No,” she says finally, “because I love you, and in my short life I believe I am allowed to do so.”
Link says nothing. He only places his hand on the back of her head and the other finds her face, pulling her into a deep kiss, moving his body to close the distance between them and she has never felt warmer–not curled up in a blanket, not before a fireplace, not on a hot summer day. It is here in the cold, dank depths, in the light of a burning candle, that she feels warm.
“I love you too,” he chuckles as he pulls away, hand still cupping the back of her head.
“Do you think that, in the Far Away Future, there will be a Princess and a Hero who survive to see a new tomorrow?” she ponders with a smile. She bristles with jealousy at the notion, but it also uplifts her spirit that such a hope may have some merit. “A Princess and a Hero who can be together, finally.”
“Yes.” His voice is soft, so warm and full in the low light of the candle, his cheeks and perfect smile illuminated just right. He takes her hand and presses it flat to his heart. “I know so.”
Princess Zelda allows herself to sink back into him, resting her head against his chest while he runs his fingers through her curls. If she could stay like this forever, she would, and she lets herself relish in the moment without a thought of a Calamity or a Goddess or the carvings that still cast a shadow upon them. For now, her Hero holds her tight against him, and they say nothing, because the silence says it all.
They don’t know how many moments pass in this silence, simply that the candle has begun to burn low. Zelda yawns softly and Link kisses the top of her head, his hold slacking ever so slightly.
“If you fall asleep here, you might get in trouble,” he murmurs.
“Is it such a crime for me to spend one night with you?”
“A warm bed is much more comfortable than stone.”
“You’re not convincing me.” She removes herself from his embrace anyways. Immediately a freeze comes over her, missing the feel of his skin on hers, but she has mastered self control and rises from her position on the floor.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” Link offers from below her.
“Of course.” Gripping her skirt in her fists, she begins to walk away. When she reaches the stairs, she casts a glance over her shoulder. “Goodnight, Link.”
“Goodnight, Zelda.”
Each stair that she climbs drags her further away from him and the dread begins to settle back into her heart, the weight back onto her shoulders. Where she had felt warm, goosebumps prickle on her skin in the chilly library, cold light cast through the windows by the moon. The shadows of the bookshelves are long and intense, watching her just like the carvings on the walls below. She glides through them and slips back out the big library doors, and it’s like she was never there. Her memory is a phantom in those halls.
Walking through the castle, the Princess comes to a pause at a window overlooking the vast Hyrule Field beyond Castle Town. Against the canvas of black night and dotted stars, the raging red of a fire burns in the distance. It is merely a speck in her gaze, but she can imagine the troops that gather around it to prepare for the battles to come. In the past few years, monster activity had drastically increased to the point that the cries of such beasts could be heard from Castle Town. At nighttime, the activity was known to die down, aside from the strange phenomenon of skeletal monsters, which ancient texts dubbed Stalmonsters. That fire, so many miles away, sustains the knights sent to battle them and, Goddess willing, return in the morning.
“Zelda?”
Her breath catches in her throat and her eyes widen in horror.
Slowly, she turns and replies, “Mother.”
The Queen is nowhere near as imposing at night, abandoning her extravagant jewels and gowns for a simple white nightgown with lace detailing. If Zelda had not been her daughter, she’d think her to be a simple maid.
“What are you doing in the halls at this time of night?” Her mother beckons her to follow with a swipe of her hand, and she has no choice but to follow.
“I could not sleep. I was going for a walk,” Zelda tells her.
“You should be sleeping.” Her mother turns a corner and Zelda realizes that they’re headed for their bedchambers, two luxurious rooms situated side-by-side. “Rest is important for a young royal, especially you.”
She wants to say that sleep is hard for her these days. That her dreams are haunted by Calamities and deaf Goddesses and burning moons, but most of all, in some of her dreams, she sees the vision of a Hero–her Hero–laying on the dirt, unmoving, unbreathing. She wants to say that staying awake is how she keeps herself safe from these nightmares.
But she doesn’t. Instead, she mutters, “You’re right,” and they enter the Queen’s bedchambers. “I’ll go to bed early tomorrow.” Her mother sits down at her vanity and begins to brush through her hair while making idle conversation. How was your day? What did you do? What’s on the agenda tomorrow? All questions the Queen has never bothered to ask before.
“Tomorrow, Link and I are going to celebrate my birthday.”
Gently, her mother sets the brush down on the nightstand, furrowing her brows at herself in the mirror.
“You and that knight–”
“Link.”
“You and… Link are awfully close, are you not?” her mother interrogates.
“We grew up together. It’s natural.”
The Queen sighs. “I know. I understand the feeling.” Zelda is almost shocked by her display of empathy. “But you must exercise self restraint. If you two were to become romantically involved, it could spell the end of not just Hyrule, but the world.”
Princess Zelda is tired of being told the same things over and over. She knows the world is relying on her. She knows only she possesses the power to hold back the Calamity. She knows love is bad. She doesn’t need it drilled into her every second of every day, much less from the woman inflicting such pressures upon her.
But she simply says, “Of course.” Her hand rests on the doorknob. “I think I will retire for the night. Rest is important, as you said. Goodnight.” She twists the knob in her hand and is fully prepared to shut the door without a response, but then:
“I love you, my dear Zelda,” her mother calls.
“I love you too,” her daughter replies, and closes the door with a soft click.
Link stays behind after Zelda leaves him, watching as she disappears around the winding stairs and up into the moonlit night. His heart twists into a knot, wishing she could stay for just a little while longer. Hylia, she doesn’t even have to be in his arms, just let her be with him. But… he knows she can’t. Even as devoted as they are to each other, Zelda’s sense of duty triumphs their bond.
His eyes and mind wander to the carvings, flashing and flickering in the candlelight. She’s there in one and gone in the next, just like that. Is that how it happens? he wonders. So suddenly, without even a goodbye.
And why is that fair? His anger has bubbled for so many years, ever since that night they uncovered the depths and learned the truth, but for her sake, had bottled it up and tucked it away where it would never be opened. And now, looking at these carvings, he can’t help but feel that anger again, that same frustration he’d felt when Impa had finally taught them in that wretched classroom just exactly what they were meant to do.
He repeats her name in his head, over and over, like a prayer. Zelda, Zelda, Zelda, like saying it will keep her alive and save her from her own fate–their own fate, because when she is gone, what is he to do? What is his purpose, then? He thinks he would disappear in his own way, and find her in some other life.
Dragging his gaze across the carvings, he lands on the pile of debris off to the side blocking the rest of the wall. He’s wondered about it for ages: what could possibly be under there, what more horrifying secrets are being locked away? Zelda has always stopped him whenever he’s tried to move the rocks, saying that perhaps if they knew more, it would make them feel worse. How is that possible when he’s felt so empty for so long, fulfilled only by her presence? So, he stands up and moves to the stones.
Link shoves the rocks off of each other, one by one, lifting some and rolling others down the pile of debris. Slowly, the pictures behind start to reveal themselves, piecing their stories together stone by stone, and finally he’s moved the pile and the Hero is standing awestruck.
There he is, his stone-carved form, wielding the Master Sword against the great swirling cloud with the speck of light in the middle. And in the next, that cloud is gone, and only they remain.
The Princess and the Hero, hands interlocked, looking forward to a new tomorrow.
Yes, Link, the Hero wielding the sword that seals the darkness, understands well his destiny–and he will do everything to defy it.
