The full archive—sent to me, and other journalists—contains every email Shupe sent or received, from both of her two email accounts, between 2017 and 2023, the years when she was most active as a member of the organized anti-trans movement. There are years of media, legislative and tactical strategy outlined in those emails; there are conversations in which some of the most well-known TERFs in the movement coordinate strategy and brainstorm talking points. It is a playbook for how anti-trans organizations operate and a compressed history of how the TERF movement joined forces with the Christian right to create the current moment.

Most important, it is a record of how Elisa Rae Shupe was crafted into a weapon; how her narrative was established, edited and eventually taken out of her control, even as her name appeared on testimonies, Supreme Court briefings and highly circulated op-eds. This is the making of a “detransitioner.” More like her are being made every day.

There is a long history of extremist movements recruiting damaged and isolated individuals to do their dirty work. Yet Shupe’s crusade wrecked her life, and in the end, the movement that elevated her also chewed her up and spat her out without hesitation. There was no big fuck-you-I’m-out moment for Shupe, no definitive point when she knew it was over; the tide just turned on her. A fellow TERF named Karen Davis started publicly attacking Shupe for her supposed autogynephilia. Shupe says she received death threats.

“I was gradually waking up to the fact that, you know, I was just a useful idiot, are the two words I would use,” Shupe tells me. “I got the vibe that they wanted me to help them, they wanted me to use them, but they wouldn’t trust somebody like me around their kids.”

I was very excited to join the Neverafter zine for d20 zine jam, but I must admit I rushed it a bit in the end.

For this zine I picked The Wild Swans story told by H.C. Anderson to make a character for the Witches, Warriors and Wolves: a d20 Neverafter zine !!

It was fun to imagine how this character would have suffered in a fucked up version of her story (which was already pretty gloomy) and the mistakes she might have made for the worse : P

I obviously respect her faith in Christianity but there should be a limit when it comes to your beliefs and harming people. Also the fact that she's a TRUMP supporter is what really made me annoyed. Because this isn't about her weird demons crap, it's about the fact this is not only harmful to gay people but for pocs, immigrants, Muslims, WOMEN (like you're a girl what are you doing voting for the man that will literally take your rights).

That whole trans/gay video is crazy, like girl if you have weird beliefs like 'praying out the gay' then keep it to yourself, especially when so many players in her team are gay. I started giggling at the whole 'elisa de almeida' jokes people on Twitter are making right now, but I really wonder what the whole squad is feeling rn.

I don't want to compare but you can look at Sakina, she's Muslim and even when Islam is clearly against homosexuality she doesn't go and repost crazy things like this. I don't know if sakina is 'homophobic', but what matters is that she has respect for her teammates that are gay and obviously doesn't spread hate on other communities that aren't on the same page as her. She even posed and congratulated Picaud on her baby, Korbin didn't even comment on that post and I don't know if she hadn't seen it or is she just disgusted by the gays.

My second illustration to the tale of Hans Christian Andersen "Wild Swans". Elisa and her swans.

I love to think about my characters but recently I've been thinking about how they would be today instead of in the fifties, so... there Info about them under the cut! :p

In 2023, Ton is a city planner/architect (like in canon) that works from home until he's contracted to work with Rainer. Lives in Botafogo after months of looking to break his old contract in Barra da Tijuca. He's good with 3D softwares and models apartments and buildings. He has mild anxiety and low self esteem but he hides it well and is quite fun to be around it so you can't really tell from being his friend. Still not over his girl ex, tried to quit smoking but failed again and again. Would love to get a pet but is so tormented by his landlord that he doesn't. His taxa de condomínio is absurdly high but he tries to ignore this... Loves reddit, constantly on the subreddits r/EuSouOBabaca and r/RelatosDoReddit. Just a nice, chill guy but constantly gets into stressful "situationships".

Rainer is also an architect like in canon, but came earlier to Brazil. Did an university exchange in Brazil in his 20s but never came back to Germany because his dad threatened to throw him out if he did, fun stuff... Since then, he has lived with his mom Carolina and her sister Zela in São Cristovão, a real mama's boy. Would like to move to the Zona Sul or São Paulo someday but mentally isn't ready to leave his family behind. He's obsessed with his body and goes to the gym a lot, takes a lot of shirtless pics, passiva toxica style... Totally the type to run at 6am near Copa. He's a bit vain, focused on appearances and not super fun to be around until he meets Ton at work. Still has family trauma from his dad. Loves Apple products and wears these horrible silky suits.

Carolina is Rainer's mom. She lives with her son and her sister Zela that pressures Rainer to marry a good christian girl. She's obsessed with Whatsapp and animal rescue videos. Carolina would love for her sister to move out of the house and live at peace with Rainer but in the modern AU her ex-husband didn't leave her with much so that's how it is unfortunately... She loves animals and Rainer and Zela have to stop her from taking about any living creature in their apartment. Pictured is their only "forever living with them" pet, a good girl named Elisa.

Ton and Rainer obviously don't work on Brasilia's planning in the good year of 2023, but I'd like to think they're still sent there and forced to share some living space :s

Louisa Stevenson the Scottish campaigner for women’s university education and women’s suffrage was born on 15th July 1835.

Stevenson was born at Glasgow, the daughter of James Stevenson, a merchant and his wife Jane Stewart Shannan, The family moved to Jarrow in 1844 when James Stevenson became partner in a chemical works. After he retired in 1854 the family moved to Edinburgh shortly before her mother died, and in 1859 they settled in a house in Randolph Crescent where Louisa, Flora, Elisa Stevenson, an early suffragist, and Jane Stevenson spent the rest of their lives. Jane was a strong influence within the family but did not join in her sisters’ activities beyond the home.

After their father died leaving them comfortably off they were able to contribute financially to various causes.

Louisa was a member of the Edinburgh Ladies’ Educational Association (which later became the Edinburgh Association for the University Education of Women or EAUEW) and in 1868 she and Flora attended the first course of lectures for women given by Professor David Masson.

This was the time when Sophia Jex-Blake was starting her campaign to open up medical education to women and Stevenson was honorary treasurer of a committee formed to support Jex-Blake and help with her legal costs.

Stevenson’s role in the EAUEW led to her giving evidence to a Commission on University Education, so contributing to the Universities (Scotland) Act 1889 which meant that Scottish universities were open to women students from 1892. This led to fund-raising for a women’s hall of residence at Edinburgh University, the Masson Hall, which opened in 1897 with Louisa Stevenson as honorary secretary.

She also contributed to education by co-founding the Edinburgh School of Cookery with Christian Edington Guthrie Wright and encouraging the establishment of similar schools in other towns. The Edinburgh School was a forerunner of Queen Margaret University.

Stevenson took a particular interest in the standard of nursing at the poorhouse in her position as the first female poor law guardian in the city. She helped manage the Jubilee Nurses Institute (for District Nurses) and the Colonial Nursing Organisation and was also President of the Society for the State Registration of Trained Nurses.

While her sister Flora was one of the first women ever to serve on a school board, Louisa was one of the first women elected to a hospital board, and her work was so valuable that she changed the attitude of one male board member who had at first been opposed to the idea of a woman helping to run the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. She believed that women’s qualifications for helping with hospital management were equal to men’s though each sex might bring somewhat different experience to the task.

All her life, Louisa Stevenson supported the cause of women’s suffrage and she was an executive committee member of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies in the 1890s.

In the last years of her life she met Prime Minister Henry Campbell-Bannerman as part of a deputation of women’s suffragists, and in that same year, 1906, she received an honorary degree of LLD from Edinburgh University.

She died on 13th May 1908, at home at 13 Randolph Crescent in Edinburgh. as seen in the pics.

Esse diário será mais curto, por conta de ser um capítulo muito tranquilo. Lis e Chris estão se preparando para um ensaio fotográfico na ONG com as crianças, e sigo achando sensível e fofo que Christian tenha puxado Elisa pra fazer parte desse ponto da vida dele. Apesar das inseguranças, Elisa é uma candidata incrível a estar ali, com aquelas crianças, é amável, mas ainda não viu isso, eu acho rsrs

A ideia do ensaio fotográfico com as crianças fantasiadas é um xuxu da horta, pois pouca coisa é tão fofa quanto criança fantasiada kkk se for de bichinho, mais ainda.

Com certeza faz quem lê ter mais sensibilidade com essa questão, e eu bem gostaria de fazer algo similar um dia!!

Have you seen the spoilers for Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Wild Swans? And it’s called SWANS. It’s about a young woman called Elisa, and she’s an orphaned cousin to the 13 princes of the Southern Isles. King Jonas Westergard(Father of Hans) takes care of her and employs her as a servant in the castle. Elisa generally isn’t treated very well by the brothers. Hans picks on Elisa because she’s lower in line to the throne than he is. Prince Lars treats her slightly better than the rest. Slightly. There’s a prophecy circulating around the common people that says that someone from the Westergard lineage will bring greatness and honor to the 13 princes of the Southern Isles. 

Meanwhile, Hans new stepmother Shuriki disposes of the King in order to take the throne and curses the 13 princes so that they become swans. Elisa knows that the brothers are now swans, so she finds Shuriki’s spell book and looks through it to figure out how to save the brothers. She learns that to break the curse she must knit 13 shirts from the fibers of 13 plants and remain silent while doing so, for speaking one word will kill them, but the book self-destructs before she can show it to anyone. She tries to escape from Shuriki by jumping aboard a ship, but it quickly sinks when Shuriki attacks it. The swans save Elisa by dragging her to the nearest shore by towing her away in a basket, and they save her because she is the only one who knows about their plight.

Meanwhile, Shuriki is out looking for Elisa for she fears Elisa may be the person described in the prophecy. In the end, Elisa finishes the 13 shirts and gives them to the brothers, breaking the curse. But Hans remains partially cursed, so he keeps one wing because Elisa didn’t have enough time to finish his shirt. Shuriki tries to get revenge by cursing her, but Hans sacrificially dives in front of Elisa to save her. Hans’ act of love fully breaks his curse and deflects her spell. The spell ends up hitting her, turning her into a snail. The years Hans has spent as a swan has made him rethink what truly matters in life. Once the brothers get restored, they start getting along better than they did before. Hans suggests that Elisa be crowned Queen, which the other brothers reluctantly agree to. Elisa starts to remind Hans of Anna and a little bit of Elsa, which unsettles him a little, so Elisa suggests that he go find them so he can make amends. Hans agrees to this, so he leaves for Arendelle immediately after the coronation. 

I think you've created a very interesting story idea here Anon. Linking the multiple princes of the Southern Isles to the multiple princes in the Wild Swans story is quite clever. And it's fun that you're pulling in Shuriki from Sofia the First as well. Always down for a good Disney crossover. Have you considered posting your story ideas on your own blog so you can get more notice for them/traction on your own blog? You're clearly very passionate about your ideas (I believe I saw a post of yours about your own idea for Frozen 3? Though of course it may have been someone else, the style of presenting it as spoilers was just similar) and I feel bad that people will be seeing this on my blog and not your own if this is the only place you've posted it . Keep up the creativity and writing!
