But I think players will be surprised to find that there’s more to them than meets the eye. What secrets do they have? And will you be brave enough to get down and dirty in order to find out?

Wow, we’re swooning already! Are there any other characters we should be excited about or on the lookout for?

Tom: Honestly, you should absolutely get excited about your character! Don’t let her innocence and inexperience fool you! MC might need a moment to find her footing. But once she does, she’s a headstrong woman who isn’t afraid of responding with a little sass when the situation calls for it.

Dick: Be on the lookout for your new project manager! As a perfectionist and Dixon’s wife, there’s no telling when she’ll pop up with 10 pages worth of notes on your latest assignment or nosy questions about the nature of you and Dixon’s budding relationship.

Berry: I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m super excited for players to meet our crazy quirky cast of supporting characters, especially one uber prepared best friend! Dressia is always there for you whether you need relationship advice or a hot new outfit to impress a special someone.

Hot new outfits you say? What can we expect from the closet in this book? Give us the scoop!

Jane Doe: Since this book puts the “sin” in “business”, you can expect some very risqué office wear. Low-cut blouses, rising hemlines, lacy thigh highs, oh my! If Dixon Balzac were my boss, I’d definitely stock my real life closet with these outfits.

We can barely contain our excitement! Okay, last question: What did the writing team use as inspiration for this titillating title?

Berry: The team had so much fun perusing classics, modern bestsellers, and popular Wattpad stories alike! We found a little bit of inspiration in every single one, which has allowed us to create a totally original, not at all carbon copied new book for our catalogue. So we hope you enjoy it!

‘No because it is actually very hard to take TDA seriously. Like I want to take it seriously, it's the one affair story on this app where there's actually a believable sympathetic reason for it. So this could be an interesting story about how women (especially sapphic women) did not have a lot of options back in those days. But it's really hard to take the story seriously when Nat's an entitled prick, I'm forced to watch animals straight up mating, and MC gets stimulation from horseback riding. Just like with MTFL, the sexual tone is incredibly off.’

Hello one and all and welcome to the The Duchess Affair name post. This is a list of period-accurate given names you can give your MC if you need some inspiration or want to know what kinds of names ladies had back then. I've combed through the 1809 edition of Debrett's Peerage for names of noblewomen in the 1600s and 1700s in Britain, which is where I'm taking the liberty of assuming TDA is set.

As always, you can drop any questions in my inbox, I love love love playing reference librarian :-)

Most names in this period either came from the Bible or from literature. The Bible was the most common book owned and read, so Biblical names were frequently seen. Some nobles liked to show off how cultured and educated they were by naming their children after mythological figures or characters from poetry and history, but most people of all classes named children after ancestors or loved ones (which explains why it seems like it was the same dozen names getting passed around again and again.)

Very common names -- the majority of women back then had one of these names:

Catharine (not a typo – this was the standard spelling in the 1700s!)
