how do you handle genetics if you do at all in your art

Great question! I'm actually quite the cats genetics nerd and typically when I design my own cat ocs, I go for accurate, realistic genetics. Genetics in ClanGen don't _quiiite_ work that way though, and since I like staying pretty close to the in game sprite's patterns, I'm forced to do the genetics for SporeClan with body/fur shape only.

Since we don't have any SporeClan cats with two in game generated parents as of yet, I made a brand new clan and picked a family from there! I usually try to take a mix of traits from both parents, or go somewhere in between. These two parents here are pretty different, so combined with their already wildly different coat patterns, the siblings look pretty different from eachother. I hope you can still see what I'm trying to portray, though!

One of my FAVOURITE things to do when designing families is giving some of them a unique trait, like the fully pink nose Aphidpeak has passed on to Bubblingspeck, or the full back stripe that both Softrock and Jellyfishfeather inherited from Cypressplume. Also, when cats have parents that are agouti(ticked)/bengal but doesn't inherit the pattern, I still like to include things like the dark feet. I also do this sometimes with white spotting, such as the rings on Softrock's tail.

LASTLY, I do sometimes mess with how I portray the patterning.

Usually when I draw most patterns, I'll draw their underbelly colours with my regular brush, giving them harder lines. But with Softrock, I opted to airbrush in her lighter underbelly, a thing I usually only do with agouti cats, as a nod to her parents. I'll also often mess with just how much the lighter colour goes up (for example, Mousegrove and all her kits have a high amount of the lighter colour, while Dawnpelt and Minklake have barely any)

Anyways, I think that's all.... it's all I can come up with for now, at least :') Hope my ramblings are at least somewhat coherent!

Thinking about how surreal it would be for any Ilvermorny transfer student to go to Hogwarts, because Ilvermorny was founded by the witch Isolt, and her no-maj (muggle) husband! Blood purity as a concept seems like it would be entirely disregarded in the north american wizarding world as a whole because of this. Like, how are we going to whine about “purity” when a literal non-magic wielder helped to instate the very school itself!

Ilvermorny students would show up like “wow. blood purity is such an archaic concept, so glad it’s not really a thing anymore :)” and then be floored at the behavior from some of the most well off purebloods at the wizarding worlds most prestigious school. Much to think about 🤔

I also find the Gaunts influence being in America very interesting, with Isolts estranged aunt, Gormlaith Gaunt who basically kidnapped her, ultimately leading Isolt to flee to America to begin with. Ilvermorny lore is so fascinating there’s so much to play with, even in the HL era!

oh and also this:

shoutout to the therapist dr aurelius guy from the end of mockingjay btw. like on a slightly depressing note i think part of the point of him on a thematic level is how talk therapy is not necessarily built for everyone or to deal with every problem. like katniss is traumatized in ways she probably will always be struggling with, and some people (and i have been guilt of this in the past!) use therapy as a bandaid for every bad thing a character goes through when people are just simply more complex than that. so katniss can grow and find love and solidarity and comfort but that doesn’t mean she’s like, Over It or ever will be because who would be honestly!!! katniss notably likes him because he doesn’t offer any hollow assurances like “it will all be fine” or “you are perfectly” safe. he just offers to be a listening ear but doesn’t press that much.

on a much less depressing note i think he is SO funny. doc clearly knows all this and comes to her room just to take naps (because i imagine his workload has increased a Lot) and doesn’t try make her talk because he knows she won’t anyway. and then when katniss goes back to district twelve he SENDS A MESSAGE WITH PEETA like “girl you have GOT to stop screening my calls, i can’t keep lying for you” because i’m pretty sure katniss literally says they let her leave with the stipulation that she had to continue treatment with him lmao. such a small character but he’s so funny to me.

Rito Village is perfect for those of us naturally hot bodied Revali fans. First of all, snuggling with Revali probably starts out nice but I would imagine turns into a freakin sauna because of how he’s naturally built to fight the cold. So if you naturally retain heat and get hotter easier and quicker then others, it would be torture to sleep anywhere with him that isn’t the Hebra region. With how naturally chilly it is and the Rito homes are so open, its probably a really nice balance of temperature. You’d actually be able to snuggle up to Revali without either of you having to worry about the other over heating, and that honestly sounds so nice.

I think its very cute how a lot of Coven Scouts seem to not only respect Hunter but genuinely like him, probably because he was one of the few superiors who was actually nice to them. Compare it to his relationship with most of the Coven Heads, who shunned him and found him annoying.

Only a few years prior, Hunter was a scout himself. He sorta shot up in rank very suddenly when he became the Golden Guard. So maybe that factors in to the treatment he received from both sides.

Coven Heads do not have the highest opinion of scouts. They just kinda exist to boss around and carry out dirty work. So with Hunter basically being a glorified scout, along with a teenager and a nepotism baby, they saw no reason to show him any respect.

But the scouts themselves were like "That's our boy!! We go way back. We were put on the same mountain during training. Good times. Anyway look at him being a big shot now!! Yes Mr Golden Guard Sir, if you need scouts for a mission, you know we got your back!!" And seeing as Hunter was once in their position, probably knew most of their names and actually saw them as people rather than tools, it simply didn't occur to him to not treat them with some decency.

Oh my god. Reading is like, really important for inspiration, huh.

People hate on Light for many many (mostly valid) reasons, but you can't deny that he's so incredibly organized and so determined to handle most things by himself that being his admin or his receptionist or his assistant would probably be a dream

...what does "mentor: pending" mean for finchpaw? did dawnpelt really fuck up that bad?

She did fuck up severely, but it's mostly because both of them are down for the count right now. It's pending until both have recovered, where it can then be properly reevaluated. Especially now that Finchpaw's injury got worse. She might lose some or all of her sight, and Dawnpelt doesn't have the experience nor ability to properly train a disabled apprentice.

It was changed after moon 22, where Dawnpelt is Traumatized and Finchpaw's injury starts becoming infected. There's a vague comment about it during that moon!
