Flower power

One of our routine walks takes us past this eyesore -a pile of charred debris, the result of a house-fire last winter.

When I first saw it - in early spring - it was strictly shades of black and brown. The fire had fried everything.

On Wednesday I walked past the wreckage again and was surprised to see a splash of color; the delicate potted petunias had survived the blaze to fulfill their mission

the way the inmates in the narkina 5 prison are intentionally pitted against each other through “competition” is so chilling. you want to avoid punishment for low productivity? maybe even experience a tiny shred of joy in the form of flavor in your food? outperform the other tables in your room. your supervisor has been given a tiny bit of power and is wielding that over you because he’s trying to beat the other rooms on the floor. he’s an inmate himself but this system gets him to effectively do the job of prison warden. everything about the prison is set up to undermine solidarity among the inmates and to get them to see each other as the enemy – of course they all know that the empire built this system, but making the punishment and oppression they suffer daily a zero-sum game with the people they’re incarcerated with is incredibly effective at dividing them. it’s horrifying

best moment in BL this year was when porsche flicked kinn’s tiddy and the whole tit went ba-bounce no i will not be taking notes or comments at this time

I'm wearing my denial hat and has decided that since we didn't see a body or a zombie, Cheong-San didn't actually die thank you peace and love see you next season 🫰

one thing about mm is that i very deliberately am not writing a 3 act story structure where yknow, you have a 1st act, break into 2nd, break into 3rd etc. but instead ive done the story equivalent of putting spaghetti in a pot, turning on the stove, closing the lid and stepping back. the obvious upside to this is that you get to watch the spaghetti boil over at some point, which is fun. the downside is that it's harder to tell where we are in terms of more traditional storytelling

anyway i think ive broken the traditional rules enough by now that not only have we passed the 3rd act, we've actually just entered the 4th. solid, liquid, gas, plasma. this is the plasma act. the spaghetti is plasma now. metaphorically speaking
