Beach Days - Charlie Coyle
Summary: The reader always loved going to the beach, it was and still remains to be her favorite place. She looks back on her past life when she still lived close to the beach, on visiting beaches in different countries with Charlie and she enjoys nice beach date with him realizing how all those moments will be just a memory one day.

“Being with her was like sitting outside by the sea at sunset. I don't think I need to say more.” - Jonathan Carroll
The smell of sunscreen mixed with the salt of the sea, the sweet smell of ice cream, and freshness of lemons followed me everywhere. I smelled it in the air everywhere I went, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Ice cream shops filled the busy streets, all windows of each home flung open to get some breeze and fresh air inside. Kids were screaming and laughing loudly as they ran around and all adults were excited to get some much-needed rest. My skin glowed brighter than usual and my overall mental state was better than ever. I pictured myself staying like this forever. Holding his hand as we wandered through the streets, splashing water on each other and staying up all night talking about life and our future and then sleeping in the next day. I felt as if my life just started; thanks to him, now that he was in my life, he made me feel things I’ve never felt before. Saying goodbye to him hurt even if it was only for a few hours and saying his name light up a flame in my heart and whenever I looked at him and he looked back at me I felt millions of butterflies flying around in my stomach.
I loved spending days at the beach and years before moving to Boston to be with Charlie I would spend there most of the days no matter what season it was. The sound of waves splashing the salty water calmed my soul and mind and the beauty and atmosphere of the beaches never failed to amaze me. It was my favorite place to go to when I wanted to be alone or when I felt lonely and needed to hear some distant chatter and laughter. I adored going with my friends or family and enjoy good food and spend the days by laughing together with them. But living in Boston meant anything but going to the beach. Sure, there were beaches in Massachusetts but there was always a hint of weather changing quickly and the beauty of those beaches couldn’t compare to those in California, Florida, or anywhere else in the world.
Beach dates were my favorite because they offered countless activities to do and it was never boring. And when we didn’t want to do anything we simply didn’t. Charlie loved to cuddle even in the unbearable heat. I drooled over him when he got out of the water and always wondered how I got such a beautiful man to date me. All girls stared at him whenever they got a chance and some of them were brave enough to walk up to him and ask for a number and there was nothing more satisfying than knowing he was there with me and that he was also leaving with me and not anyone else. Charlie liked to stare at me when I tried to read a book or get lost in my thoughts. It always made me blush. He loved getting the food at one of the beach restaurants and buying ice cream. He had a cocky grin on his face when he watched me walk away from him to go for a swim or when I went for some drinks. He liked to carry me to the water or out of it so I wouldn’t get sand on my wet feet. And he especially enjoyed hugging me when he was soaking wet and cold because he knew how much that annoyed me. I always gave up in the end and hugged him back. We loved forgetting about the world and enjoy the days without acknowledging the stress of everyday life. We loved staying until the night when everyone else would be long gone. We didn’t need to say anything because just the presence of each other was comforting enough.
...
“This was a really good day,” Charlie mumbled into my hair as he rested his head on mine. “It’s not like other days were bad but I enjoyed this one more than usual.”
“Maybe it’s because the beach wasn’t as crowded as it normally is,” I said back. “The rain helped a lot.”
“That rain actually came in handy, it was refreshing and got rid of all the salt,” Charlie chuckled.
We then fell into a comfortable silence as we looked at the sky. I sat between his legs, his hands wrapped around me and his head now resting on my shoulder as he kissed the crook of my neck from time to time. I stole his hoodie as the evening air got colder and I soaked up the scent of salt and his cologne wanting to remember it forever.
Now more than ever I was realizing that life is nothing but moments like this. Laughing with him about the silliest things was just a moment. Kissing him for good luck before a game was just a moment. A fight with him was just a moment. Watching the sunset at the beach with him was just a moment. I understood that time passed with the moments and moments passed with time. Some of those moments would be forgotten while the rest of them I would remember for the rest of my life. I knew without a doubt I would always remember the way he made me feel, how safe and happy I felt when he was around, how he made me smile and laugh like no one else. How I felt like we were on the top of the world even when we were completely alone lying on the couch and eating junk food.
Fear took over me. Fear of losing this, losing him and losing everything he meant one day. And so I was set on appreciating and taking in each moment I got to spend with him. Because as life goes all moments, no matter how beautiful or how tragic they always come to end. I smiled bigger, laughed louder, hold onto hope tighter and I decided to open my heart wider, and to love deeper than before.
“What are you thinking about babe?”
I lifted my head and turned around just a little to look at him and I smiled immediately when I saw him looking back at me. “About life,” I said simply.
“Yeah?”
“Hmm,” I nodded. “About remembering this for the rest of my life.” Charlie didn’t say or do anything for a while. He looked at me with a serious look as if he was thinking about what to say or what my answer meant. “Up for a midnight swim?” I asked.
“You bet.” He said with a laugh and he ran towards the dark water while I took off his hoodie.
Nothing lasts forever and I was ready to enjoy life while I still could.

Neighborly
Tumblr media
Pairing: Charlie Coyle x female!reader
Type: Fluff
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 1785
Summary: It’s the middle of the summer, and with most of his teammates off in their respective home states or countries, Charlie is left with only a few options for company. He could call Wags or Gizzy over, but with Wags’ annual summer barbecue coming up, he doesn’t want to seem too needy. Then the perfect idea falls right into his lap. His neighbor.
A/N: I will not apologize for loving the shit out of Brad Marchand
~~~~
Charlie had never been this bored. If he was forced to watch another episode of The Bachelor he thought he might just take the quick way out and fling himself out the window.
Summer was a slow time. He liked having a break from hockey, even though he was always working out and getting ready for the upcoming season, but he missed his teammates like crazy. Everyone had gone home for the summer months after the season was over. The only players that were left in Massachusetts were the local boys, himself, Chris Wagner, and Matt Grzelcyk. The three of them had taken to hanging out together a lot. But they each had families they wanted to spend time with.
The past week, for Charlie at least, had been hell. His family had gone up to Maine for a vacation. He’d elected to stay behind because there was nowhere he could go to stay in shape. Sure, a week off from all workouts entirely wouldn’t hurt too much, but there was also the small matter of Wagner’s annual barbecue in the backyard of his home in Walpole tomorrow afternoon. Some of the guys were coming back for the weekend just to hang out and catch up before going back to their families for the summer. Pasta was flying in all the way from Prague, and Tuukka from Finland. Charlie couldn’t miss out.
He was just starting to consider another episode when he heard the door to the apartment next to his open and close. How could he be so stupid. His neighbor was right there and he didn’t even think to ask if she wanted to do something with him.
Before he could think twice, he was on his feet heading out of his apartment. He knocked on your door, fiddling with his fingers as he waited for you to open it.
“Charlie,” you smiled, stepping aside so he could come in as you looked up at him. “What’s up?”
“Hey Y/N,” he smiled, squeezing past you into your apartment. He turned his head away from you to hide the blush brushing against you caused. “Sorry to bother you but, is there any chance you’d want to hang out today? Wags is prepping for his barbecue tomorrow and Grizzy is hanging out with his family.”
“Yeah, I’m available,” you said, walking into your living room. “What do you want to do?”
“I don’t know,” Charlie shrugged as he sat down on your couch.
“Alright,” you said, sitting down beside him. Your dog jumped up on the couch between you. You giggled as she placed her head in Charlie’s lap. “Well, there’s no shortage of fun things to do in Boston in the summer. We could take a ride on a duck boat.”
“I’d get recognized,” Charlie shot down the idea.
“Okay, what about a Red Sox game? My dad has some tickets for tonight.”
“Maybe.”
“Museum? I’ve always loved the Museum of Science.”
“It’ll be closing soon.”
You stopped firing off ideas for a moment before thinking of the perfect thing. He clearly didn’t want to be around people, and you just so happened to know the perfect spot where you wouldn’t be disturbed.
“Come with me,” you grabbed his hand and pulled him up off the couch.
“Where are we going?” he asked as you dragged him along behind you.
“You’ll see.”
The sun was just starting to disappear between the high rise buildings as you drove towards the Prudential Center. Charlie knew Boston like the back of his hand, so of course he knew where you were going. He just had no idea why you were going there.
“Trust me,” you smiled over at him as you parked in your spot in the parking garage.
It was silent in the elevator as you rode it up to the top floor. Your office occupied that floor, something you were deeply grateful for when you had to pull all nighters. The receptionist smiled and nodded to you as you led Charlie through the office to the balcony.
“How did I never know this was here?” he asked, walking out over the glass floor.
“It’s one of Boston’s best kept secrets,” you smiled as you watched him lean against the railing and look out over the city. His jaw hung open with the view. You came to stand beside him, your gaze moving from his face out to the city.
Despite the warm summer night, and standing in close proximity to Charlie, who was like a human furnace, the wind still managed to make you shiver. Charlie noticed and wrapped an arm around your shoulders. It was like second nature to him with how quick the idea came to mind and the speed with which he acted upon it.
You stilled under his arm for a moment before leaning into his side. A wave of comfort watched over you in his embrace. It almost felt natural, like it was a position you were supposed to be in.
“Thank you for this,” Charlie said after a few moments of quiet. “I needed the distraction.”
“I’m happy to be your distraction any time you need me,” you replied, looking up at him. He was already looking down at you.
“We should probably go,” he said, his voice husky. “Krej is having that barbecue tomorrow.”
“Yeah,” you agreed, stepping out from under his arm, your trance having broken.
“Do you want to come with me?” he asked as you walked back through the Prudential Center to your car. “To the barbecue, I mean.”
“I would love to,” you responded, smiling to yourself as you climbed into your car.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Charlie bid you goodbye once you were back outside your apartment.
“Tomorrow,” you nodded. Charlie leaned down and pressed a kiss to your cheek before disappearing into his apartment, leaving you standing dumbfounded in the hall.
The next morning arrived all too soon. Before you knew it, Charlie was knocking at your door.
“Morning,” he smiled brightly when you stepped out into the hallway with him. “You look excited.”
“It’s not everyday you’re asked to a barbecue that’s hosted by a Bruins player,” you nudged him.
“You got me there,” he laughed.
The rest of the ride was filled with playful banter. You and Charlie just talked as he made the drive to Chris Wagner’s home in Walpole. Your nerves spiked when you the driveway and road lined with cars. Charlie took notice and grabbed your hand.
“They’re gonna love you,” he reassured you with a gentle smile.
“You say that like I’m your date or something,” you smiled back. He just shrugged and popped open the door. Before you got the chance to react, he was running around the car to open the door for you. You took his hand again as he helped you step out. Across the yard somebody let out a wolf whistle. You looked up to see Anders Bjork smirking over at his teammate. You immediately blushed and looked away.
“Don’t be shy,” Charlie whispered to you as he changed the grip he had on your hand and walked over to Anders.
“Who’s this?” Anders asked as you and Charlie walked into the backyard together.
“Friend of mine,” Charlie said. “Y/N, Anders. Anders, Y/N.”
“Nice to meet you,” Anders smiled, shaking your free hand. He tossed a look over his shoulder to you as Charlie McAvoy came and pulled him away towards a game of corn hole. He waved to you before disappearing.
“Come on,” Charlie pulled you towards the deck. You froze when you saw who was standing there. Charlie followed your gaze to Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak. He smiled and started leading you over to them. “You wanna meet them?”
“Yeah,” you nodded, looking up at him. He laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of your head before walking up the steps.
“Charlie!” Brad exclaimed when he saw his teammate appear between Patrice and Pasta. “Who’s this?”
“Guys, this is Y/N,” Charlie introduced you. “Y/N, you know who everybody is.”
“Yeah,” you said sheepishly. “Sorry, I’m kind of star struck.”
“I like her,” Pasta laughed. You smiled brightly and looked up at him.
“Pasta!” McAvoy called from the yard. “We need two more for corn hole! You in?”
“What do you say, Y/N?” Pasta asked, looking down at you. “You any good at corn hole?”
“I like to think I am,” you responded with a smile.
“Well come on,” Pasta waved you on. You stood on your toes and pressed a kiss to Charlie’s cheek before following Pasta down the stairs towards the corn hole game in the shade the tree caused.
Chris Wagner handed his spot at the grill off to Kevan Miller and joined Charlie, Patrice, and Brad. Charlie didn’t notice the arrival of his friend, for he was too busy watching as you got yourself acquainted with the group of guys playing corn hole.
“Oh you’ve got it bad,” Wags laughed.
“What?” Charlie looked over at his teammate. Brad, Patrice, and Wags all started laughing.
“Oh you do have it bad,” Patrice smiled, leaning against the railing as he tried to catch his breath. “Are you sure she isn’t your girlfriend?”
“I hate every one of you,” Charlie groaned, accepting the beer passed to him by Marchy.
“Look,” Bergy said, holding a hand out. “She’s into you. If you make a move I guarantee you won’t regret it.”
“And how the fuck do you know that?” Charlie asked as he took a sip of his beer.
“Out of the two of us, who is the one that’s married?” Bergy raised an eyebrow.
“Trust us,” Marchy chimed in. “You should make your move.”
“Yeah,” Charlie gazed at you as you threw your hands up and high fived Pasta. “Maybe you guys are right.”
“Go,” Wags said as he took Charlie’s beer from him.
Before he got the chance to second guess himself, he was on his way over to you. Without thinking twice, again, he spun you around by your shoulder and planted his lips on yours.
A chorus of cheers went up from the players around you.
You melted into Charlie’s touch, letting the feeling of his lips against yours transport you to a different place. His lips worked against yours gently, not trusting himself to go further because he knew he wouldn’t be able to stop.
“Who do I have to thank for that?” you whispered, completely out of breath when he pulled away.
“Marchy, Bergy, and Wags,” he answered, equally as out of breath.
“I’ll thank them later,” you said before kissing him again.
General #42 with Charlie Coyle
#42 "Are you flirting with me?" With CC.
Tumblr media
"Charlie," you sighed over the phone, "I've got a thousand things going on right now, but I'd never miss our lunches together. I'll be there and don't even try to worm your way out of it."
"Wouldn't dream of it," your best friend Charlie Coyle stated, laughing.
You hung up smiling as you continued with your morning bustling through a hectic day at the attorney's office you were the administrative assistant for.
By the time lunch came your stomach was roiling with how hungry you were and you hurried to meet Charlie at the formentioned lunch spot you two always met at.
"Looking good, little miss," Charlie's deep voice greeted you.
He was right, sort of. You were dressed nicely for work, with a knee length baby blue dress and some soft grey heels, a gorgeous grey wool peacoat adorning your shoulders. You looked like a boss bitch which you prided yourself on.
"Someone very kind got me this coat for Christmas and I just had to wear it out," you giggled. Of course Charlie had gotten you the coat as a huge gift, and it really must've been expensive, but he'd told you it was on sale, the liar. You'd let him give it to you anyway.
"Nice guy," Charlie said with a wink. "Let's go inside."
The conversation was normal and flowed well as it always did with you and Charlie, but something seemed off to you. Charlie was dropping pick up lines left and right during lunch, and while they made you laugh and you played them off, it stunned you a little to the point where you had to ask about it.
"My god, that's the fifth line you've used on me today. Are you practicing your technique or are you flirting with me?"
"Flirting, actually, thanks for finally noticing," Charlie smiled, but his cheeks flushed pink as he confessed.
"Wait, for real?" You asked, all seriousness now. "Cause I don't think I could take you lying to me right now."
"Jake told me to try telling you through pickup lines. I guess it worked but boy did I feel stupid saying them. I should've just said it, huh?"
Of course Jake Debrusk was the one to offer his advice, and of course Charlie took him seriously.
"Haven't you learned not to trust him to give you good advice?" You laughed. "Doesn't matter though, cause no matter how you confess, I'll always be in love with you back."
"Really?" Charlie asked shyly, reaching across the table to grab your hands. "Cause I can't think of what I would do without you."
"Well, you won't have to be without me if you don't want. I'll always be here."
Could you please write a wedding day/proposal for Charlie Coyle?
Hey anon! I hope I did him justice!
REQUEST HERE / RULES
Tumblr media
this boy kinda screams forest person so I definitely see him doing something with that for both the proposal and wedding
the two of you were taking an evening hike per his request to this vista that he had discovered a while back that overlooked the mountains
it was just you, him, and his dog Bodie who had essentially become your child over the time you were together
the two of you walked hand in hand, smiling and chatting along as you walked up the trail
he could feel the ring box in his pocket, and even though he was nervous, he knew that the two of you were ready for it
when you got to the top, the sun was just beginning to set, causing the sky to erupt in a spectrum of colors
you were so busy taking photos and awe-ing at the view that you didn’t even notice that right behind you, he had gotten down on one knee, ring in hand
he had made a little sign for Bodie that asked “Marry my dad?” with a paw print heart
you turned around to see him with the ring out, Bodie sitting with the sign, tail wagging happily
“What do you say?” he asked with a smile
you obviously say yes, and the two of you take a million cheesy pictures at the vista of the two of you, practically glowing
so the wedding
the two of you would get married in the offseason
it would be a destination wedding, somewhere in the redwoods among all the beautiful trees
everything would be lined with white flowers and forest greens, with fairy lights and candles
there were white linens and flowers draped over a beautiful wood archway standing in as an alter
in other words, its super forest wild and romantic and everything
he’d be super shy and bashful all day but the happiest man in the world
if someone even mentioned you or married life he’d just flush and then start rambling endlessly about you
probably walks his mom down the isle to usher her to her seat before going up and taking his place bc he’s a sweet boy like that
Bodie would be the ring bearer because that’s cute as hell and y’all know he’s gotta be in the wedding somehow
a good boy, he will sit and wait up at the alter with him until you get down the isle
the ceremony is sweet and romantic and has everyone choking back tears because the two of you are mushy af
the reception would be out in one of the clearings in the forest, under a beautiful tent completely decked out in white flowers and candles and fairy lights too
all the decor would be wooden and rustic, and would just be so beautiful
to kick off the festivities the two of you would release those cool paper lanterns like something straight out of Tangled before having your first dance
the speeches once again got everyone emotional because as much as the boys try chirping Charlie they can see just how happy the two of you are
the rest of the night is spent partying together under the stars, enjoying one another’s company
never once does his hand leave yours, and he’d make sure it stayed that way for the rest of you lives
Crazy One More Time - Charlie Coyle
Type: angsty, friends with benefits, Y/N insert shorts
Requested: No
Warnings: suggestion of sex, but none written
(Y/N = Your name)
AN: This is loosely (and I mean very loosely) based on the song “Crazy One More Time” by Kip Moore
It happened every time he came back into town. No matter how many times she told herself last time was the last time, Charlie came back for the summer and Y/N found herself in the passenger seat of his truck. He had been back in Boston for months before he showed up again, and Y/N thought she was off the hook. She thought maybe he had finally found someone who could lock him down, but then he showed up again after the B’s loss to the Blues and she knew he hadn’t. She lived in her own place now, but Charlie still threw rocks at her window like he did when they were kids and sneaking out to go skating or play frisbee at the beach. He looked awful when she opened the window to look outside, tear tracks staining his cheeks and a pleading look in his eyes that she couldn’t ignore, so she nodded and gestured to the front door. One last time.
The wind was whipping through her hair as they drove along the coast. There was an unopened six pack of Bud on the floorboard by her feet, and half-empty pack of M&Ms in the cup holder between them. It was easy to pretend that they were headed down the Cape to hang with the guys for the day, like they used to, but the undeniable tension in the air and Charlie’s death grip on both the steering wheel and her thigh reminded her that this wasn’t high school, and their relationship wasn’t as carefree as it used to be. Charlie’s breath slowed and his hands relaxed the longer they drove. They had driven up and down the coast from Quincy to Sandwich and back to Weymouth again before he finally broke the silence, whispering “I can’t believe it happened again.” Y/N’s heart broke a little at the pain in his voice, squeezing the hand he had on her leg with one of her own. She had watched the game, and she’d had the same thought. They were still just friends in high school, when the entire town thought their boys from Weymouth were going to win the Super Eight.
“Chuck,” Y/N stopped. She knew from experience there was nothing to say that he’d listen to, nothing she could tell him that he’d believe. “I know,” she finally settled on, bringing his hand up to her lips to kiss it gently, “I know.” Charlie bit his lip and turned off the main road onto a dirt path. It was always like this. A little bit of driving, maybe a trip to the beach, sometimes they’d even get food like when they were little, but they’d always find themselves down here.
Charlie stopped the car when they were far enough inside the trees, climbing out of the car wordlessly. Y/N followed after a moment’s hesitation. Tomorrow, she told herself. I’ll tell him tomorrow. The tree house they had built with some of the other neighborhood kids one summer when they were bored was still there, and Y/N was pretty sure her and Charlie were the only ones who still remembered it existed. Charlie had blankets in his arms as he climbed the nailed-in steps to the tree house, and Y/N couldn’t help but smile at his thoughtfulness even as her stomach twisted over what they suggested.
If Charlie felt like she did, then maybe it would feel different. When they were younger, when Charlie was just starting out in Minnesota and she had that fancy scholarship to Brown, it felt wild and free and crazy, like something out of one of the novels she’d loved to read as a teenager. As they got older, as her feelings grew and Charlie stopped calling her just to talk like they used to, that was when these meetings stopped being fun and started being hard. It made getting into real relationships impossible, relationships with guys who would touch her in the daylight. They were never Charlie, and a little piece of her would probably hate him forever for it.
As they reached the tree house, Y/N looked over at Charlie to already find him looking at her with an impossibly soft look in his eyes. In moments like those she dared to believe that maybe he did care about her as more than just convenience and an old friend, but she knew tomorrow morning would leave her sad and alone. Y/N smiled gently at Charlie and placed a hand on his cheek. He closed his eyes and leaned into her hand briefly before stepping back with a mischievous smirk. He pulled out his phone, turning on their playlist as he grabbed her hands. He danced Y/N around the tree house, spinning her around and dipping her until she giggled. He smiled for real that time, the smile that melted hearts everywhere he went, and pulled her back up to rest his cheek on her head.
They didn’t speak for three or four songs, and Charlie kissed the top of her head gently as they came to a stop. She leaned back enough to look in his eyes, and it took everything Y/N had not to scream out how much she loved him at the top of her lungs. Almost as if he sensed what she was about to do, Charlie pulled her body flush against his suddenly, and the moment was gone. That wasn’t what he needed, why they were there. He leaned in to kiss her softly, and she let herself lean into his chest with a sigh.
One more time.
Santa Clause Is Coming To Town - C.Coyle
Tumblr media
Day 2:
Charlie Coyle regretted ever volunteering to help the Krug’s and watch Saylor. He especially regretted telling Kelly she could run out quickly to do an errand, leaving him along with the baby. Typically Saylor Krug was the apple of the teams eye, the five month old had the entirety of the team wrapped around her finger from the moment she was born but at the moment Charlie was convinced she may have been the devil in disguise.
Fifteen minutes after Kelly left Saylor woke up from her nap screaming. He figured everything was fine and she was just looking for a diaper change so he did that immediately, when she kept screaming he guessed it was food, that was also a failure of epic proportions. Bouncing, rocking, walking, it was all failing and Charlie was at his wits end.
Turning immediately as the door opened Charlie and Kelly’s eyes connected. Her’s wide with surprise and his widing in desperation. “I’ve tried everything sweetheart. I don’t know what to do.”
Kelly could hear the devastation in his voice, clearly panicked he had down something horrible to Saylor. Guys never seemed to grasp the concept that babies just cry sometimes. She slipped off her jacket and tossed it over the back of the couch. Dropping the bag of groceries she had run out to get softly on the cushions, Kelly walked towards Saylor with her arms out. “Auntie’s turn huh honey.” Taking the red faced snotty baby from Charlie she started bouncing back and forth, “Uncle Charlie’s gonna put the groceries away before the cream gets to warm while us ladies figure out whats wrong, okay?”
Charlie gratefully smiled at Kelly taking the opening for escape she had given him. He quickly put away the cream and remaining items, rolling his eyes and Saylor quieted down with Kelly. Apparently his girlfriend was a miracle worker. Pausing in the doorway before reentering the room, Charlie had a flash to his future. Kelly walking slowly around the room dropping small kisses to the head of a baby, singing quietly to calm them “You better watch out / You better not cry / You better not pout / I'm telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town.” It was a future he couldn’t wait to see.
Three times he said it as a friend and once as something more
Tumblr media
Hello, hello. I’m still working on the Nick Robertson request but wow I don’t want you to hate me for it because it is actual trash right now and I’m sorry. But I’m also working on B&W part 3, so there’s that!
This was requested from that fluffs prompt list, which I think I’m done with now because honestly, it’s so far deep at this point, and I’m so lazy.
I hope you like it!
46. Why should we date?
47. Because we’re attracted to each other
48. I’m attracted to pie, but I do not feel the need to date pie.
__________________________
one
“Next time I see you, I really do expect you to be a professional athlete,” you tell Charlie, the two of you laying on a blanket in his backyard, enjoying the last few hours of sunlight on his last night in town. The next morning, he would be leaving to go to BU to play hockey. It wasn’t even that far, but him not living at home, and you going to school in Vermont meant him no longer driving you to school each morning, you no longer going over with dinner your mom made when she knew he and his parents were running around because of his games, no more walking next door whenever you needed to talk to instead of calling him. The memories would last forever, but those moments were now just part of the past.
“Are you not gonna come see me play at BU at all? What about when we play UVM?” he says, turning his head to look you.
Turning to him, you roll your eyes, “Ok, fine. Then I expect you to be a professional athlete in the next three years.”
“Whatever,” he says, laughing.
You sit there in silence, taking in what is probably one of the last moments for a while that you two will be able to spend a lot of time together.
“Remember how we became friends?” he asks, sitting up.
You follow suit, laughing at the memory that he just triggered. You were neighbors since your family moved to Weymouth, but you weren’t automatically friends because of it. “Well, duh. We sat across from each other in Family Consumer Science. We, of course, always finished the work early because we’re great, and we played pencil hockey for like thirty minutes before Mrs. Grace yelled at us for distracting the other two at our table.”
“The fact that you ever finished your work fast in that class is still amazing. You get distracted by everything and can’t focus on anything.”
“Yeah, well,” you shrug it off. You sit there thinking of all the other good memories you had with him; sitting across from each other in US history and joking about all the mistakes you made while texting, the nights when you would walk around Boston Common once your parents trusted you out on your own, the last minute Bruins tickets he would get and force you to go along with him to the games.
“Did you ever think about what our lives would have been like if we dated?”
“What?” you ask, shocked. There was no way the two of you would ever date. He was destined to be a professional hockey player, traveling the US and Canada with whatever NHL team wanted him. You could never date someone that wasn’t going to be there when you needed them. And you couldn’t ask him to give up your dream for you. Yes, you were overthinking this, but best case scenario is that you had dated throughout high school and ended things tonight.
“Most people thought we were dating, anyway. What if we actually had?”
“Then we probably would have broken up tonight because long distance relationships from high school never work. Look at Andrea and Eric from last year, she went to Holy Cross and he only went to UConn and they could never make it work so they broke up. Or Josh and Maggie two years ago; he went to Ohio and ended up transferring to UMass so he could be with her and he loved Ohio State.”
“Too bad we never even gave it a chance.”
You look at him, shocked. “Did you want to?”
His only response was shrugging, a smile on his face as he lays back down on the blanket. You stay sitting up, thinking about what he just said. Did he want to date you all this time and never said anything until now? And why the hell would he do something like that anyway? You weren’t going to see him until at least Thanksgiving, which means that now you have to hyper fixate on this one memory until you see him again.
“Hey,” he says, snapping you out of it.
“Yeah?”
  “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
two
Your phone lights up, causing you to tear your eyes away from the essay you had been writing that’s due in a few hours. Due to your great talent for procrastinating, you were, of course, finishing the paper at the last minute. The picture of you two in the Coyle’s front yard on your first day of school in six grade shows up on your screen, meaning Charlie was calling you. It had been forever since the two of you last talked; with you being in school and him trying to make it as a hockey player in Minnesota, your schedules never gave you a free moment to talk for more than a passing moment.
“Hey, stranger,” you say, not hiding the smile on your face even though you were out in public. You hated showing any sort of emotion that would provoke someone to come up to you and start talking to you, but seeing Charlie’s name come up on your phone with something other than a text automatically made you smile.
“Stranger? You know who I am.” You could tell by his voice that he was jokingly acting offended.
“Yeah, you’re Zach Parise, right?” you tease.
You hear the laugh you miss so much on the other end, “How have you been?”
“Uh, stressed, lately, so nothing new.”
“Why?”
“Homework, papers, and exams.”
“Oh, my.” You both start laughing at the accidental joke he made, “Why so much stuff?”
“It’s midterms, babe.”
“So I assume that you’re working right now?”
“Yep, it’s eight pm, the paper is due at midnight and I still have four more pages to write.”
` “I’m so glad that your work ethic hasn’t changed since high school.”
“Ok, rude! I have good work ethic, I just also have strong procrastination skills.”
“You probably have ADHD,” he says.
“Well, yes, but that’s a different story.”
“What’s your weekend look like? I want to catch up when you don’t have a lot of work to do.”
“Uh, I should be good.”
“Alright, get back to the paper.”
“I will. Love ya.”
“Love you, too.”
three
“Oh, come on! We practically live together. You can’t deny that something is going on between us!” Charlie argues, pacing around the kitchen as you make dinner. This conversation between the two of you was becoming a weekly one, slowly getting on your nerves to the point where you would consider moving just to get away from it.
“Because what happens if we break up? We’ve been friends since we were in middle school. Do you really want to throw all that away?” you say, turning to him, putting your hand on your hip.
“I just think we should go out as more than friends just once.”
“And how would that be different than all the other times that we go out together?”
“Because then I could do things like hold your hand and flirt with you?”
“I’m like ninety percent sure you already flirt with me.”
“Y/N.”
“Why should we date, Charlie?”
“Because we’re attracted to each other?”
“And I’m attracted to pie, but I do not feel the need to date pie,” you roll your eyes, turning your attention back to the stove.
“You’re seriously equating me to pie right now? I have never seen you eat pie, therefore, that argument is invalid.”
“Since when do you say things like therefore, and invalid?”
“Seriously, Y/N. You know I have wanted to date you since we were in middle school, but something always came up. You know I love you. You know I always have.”
You turn back to him, trying to make eye contact, but something in you just can’t. Your timing was never right. Once you were old enough to date, the two of you were never single at the same time. Actually, that isn’t true. You were both single for a brief period of time while he was playing with the Sea Dogs and you were still at UVM. This was the first time that both of you were single and in the same town.
“Charlie, you know that I love you, too. But this can not happen. We can’t risk breaking up and ruining what we have.”
He exhales, obviously disappointed. You were, too, but you couldn’t let that show. You wanted nothing more than to be with him, but you couldn’t let all those years of friendship go away if things didn’t work out between the two of you. “Fine.”
once
“Remember when you wouldn’t date me?” he asks over the sound of everyone around you.
“Remember when you were less annoying?” you roll your eyes. You look around to see so many other couples and families filling in the tables around you. Everyone looked so happy, just like you were.
You and Charlie had been together now for a year, him finally wearing you down and convincing you to let him take you on a date. He promised you that even if you stopped dating, your friendship would never end because, at this point, you were in too deep anyway. He told you he had this whole evening planned for your anniversary, complete with a walk around the Boston Common like you used to do when you were kids, dinner at Terramia, your favorite restaurant, and for dessert, he was taking you to Mike’s Pastries for the cannoli you loved so much.
“No, never,” he smirks, reaching out across the table to take your hand.
You had to admit, all the things he had said trying to convince you to date him were right; nothing was really that different between the two of you besides the intimacy that wasn’t there before. “You’re never letting me live that down, are you?”
“No.”
You roll your eyes at him. You didn’t want to inflate the ego of the man who didn’t even know how to use the oven by telling him he was right that you two dating was fine.
“Hey,” he says, like that last night before he went off to college.
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
You smile, thinking back to all those times you told each other those three words, them meaning something completely platonic. “I love you, too.”
The PR Girl - Charlie Coyle
Summary: Charlie meets a mysterious yet beautiful and playful girl. He later finds out she’s a friend of the team staffs and meets her few more times before taking it further.
Note: I hope I somehow managed to cover the “worker’s friend” aspect. This is honestly my favorite thing I’ve written so far and writing it was so much fun. Thank you for requesting 🐻💛🌈💘
Words: 2070
Tumblr media
“You are a mystery to me, yet so familiar. Like a song I’ve never heard before, and a tune I’ve known my entire life.”
Charlie didn’t mean to stare at her for so long and so often. Hell, he never looked at any girl so many times before. Sure, he met quite a lot of beautiful ladies but not a single one of them captured him the way she did. It wasn’t his fault he couldn’t take his eyes off her, she was enchanting. She looked sweet and soft, yet she would probably fight with the whole bar if she had to. Her skin was glowing, and her tanned skin looked heavenly in the lowlight of the bar. She was for sure the most beautiful woman he ever saw. He couldn’t get enough of her. Her dress went up every time she moved in the rhythm of the music or whenever she sat down and crossed her legs under the table. He enjoyed the view at her long toned legs. He smiled to himself when she threw her head behind laughing at something one of the men who kept her company said.
His heart skipped a beat the first time she caught him looking at her, she looked him in the eyes and gave him a daring look. Charlie realized she must’ve felt his gaze on her body the whole evening. But it didn’t look like it bothered her, she enjoyed it. She knew she was attractive, and she liked to act cocky around men, out of pure boredom usually. She enjoyed how easily she could wrap any man around her finger, and she laughed at their naivety.
Charlie together with most of the players and some of the team staff were having a little party. Charlie knew for sure the mysterious girl wasn’t part of the team staff and he was almost sure he never saw her at the TD Garden before. He would’ve known if one of the boys brought her with them. She truly fascinated him.
When Chris joined Charlie at the table he got caught up in the conversation and forgot all about her and so when he finished his bottle of beer and turned around, he found himself disappointed when she wasn’t there. He cursed himself for not finding enough courage or rather audacity to go and talk to her, he wished he looked at her more often and he most importantly wished he knew who she was and who she came with. He didn’t mean to be creepy but if love at first sight existed then this was it. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with just adoring someone, right?
Half an hour passed, Charlie was alone, sitting on the bar chair, sipping lukewarm beer completely lost in his own thoughts, half asleep when he noticed someone sat down next to him. He could smell the perfume even though the scent of alcohol and smoke strongly lingered in the air. Much to his surprise, it was her. She didn’t look at him, she didn’t even acknowledge him. She just sat there with a shot of whiskey and smiled at the bartender who was skilled enough to randomly start a conversation - something that Charlie wished he could do too.
“I’m Y/n,” she put down the empty glass leaving a red lip stain on it and turned around at Charlie. “Charlie Coyle, right?” She smiled.
“Yeah, yeah that’s me.” He mumbled nervously and she chuckled sweetly at his shyness.
“So, you can talk after all hm? I almost lost all my hope that you would ever talk to me.” Charlie couldn’t tell if she was serious, joking, teasing or if she was being just rude and trying to embarrass him. “I think Chris exaggerates a lot.” She added after a while.
“I’m sorry? I don’t think I understand.” Charlie shook his head, nervously ran his fingers through his hair and took another sip of the disgusting warm beer just so he didn’t have to look at her.
“We were just joking around. He said you couldn’t stop looking at me and he swore you wouldn’t find the guts to talk to me.” She put her hand on his shoulder and smiled at him again to calm him down. She noticed how uncomfortable he looked and almost felt bad for acting the way she did. But really just almost. “Billy invited me. He said it would be fun but I lost him almost immediately. Then that group of men invited me to their table. And now I’m here.”
Billy. Billy? Billy from the PR team!
“I think he’s probably just talking with someone who could make the Bruins look even better in the public eye.” Charlie finally relaxed when the tone of her voice changed and she wasn’t acting as cocky anymore.
“Even better? Are you sure about that?” She raised her eyebrow at him and then took a sip of yet another shot of whiskey. “Ever heard what people think about the Bruins?” She laughed.
“It’s pretty much all on Marchand. The rest is quite nice.” Charlie and Y/n both turned around when they heard a loud “hey” and laughed when they saw Brad pretending to be hurt that Charlie was talking about him behind his back.
“Are you and Billy dating?” Charlie couldn’t believe this sentence really left his mouth and he felt embarrassed for a second for forgetting his manners.
“Dating? No, we’re just friends. Met in school a couple of years ago.”
“So, you’re in the public relations too?”
“Yeah, got my bachelor’s degree in public relations and surprisingly stuck with it.” She laughed at herself, shaking her head in disbelief. “I hardly ever stick with something... or someone.”
“You get bored really easily huh?”
“Bored, tired, fed up. I don’t even know anymore. I guess it’s just hard for me to find things or people who can keep me satisfied.”
“Was that a Grease reference? I swear if Brandon was there, he wouldn’t shut up about Grease.”
As the night progressed Charlie got so used to her personality that he could fully relax and talk to her without fear of messing it up or saying something inappropriate. She wasn’t of the sensitive type.
“Well, pretty boy, it was nice talking to you.” Charlie watched her long toned legs carry her away from him, she looked so effortlessly sexy and beautiful, the high heels she wore added to her charm. All she left behind was a napkin with her name written in cursive and a phone number on it.
It took Charlie ten days to text her. He debated whether it was not too late and that maybe not texting her at all was a better option. But after he talked to Chris who pretty much told him he would be an idiot if he didn’t, he changed his mind and quickly texted her. She replied five minutes later.
Pretty boy can write texts too? You keep surprising me ;)
Charlie tried to fight back the smile forming on his face, but he couldn’t help it. He enjoyed her snarky comments. They ended up texting for the rest of the day and then every day for five days straight. Charlie learned she worked in a big company, got a great position after her internship and she was currently dealing with shit tons of papers - her words, not his. She came from New York, lived alone in an apartment complex three blocks away from Charlie’s place. She had no pets although she wished she had a dog. She was 25.
Charlie and Y/n met a couple of days later when she just came from work and he was on a way home from Brandon’s where they played video games. They met at the newest grocery store and instead of continuing in shopping they ended up going to the nearest restaurant for dinner. She had a full face of makeup, her long hair was straightened, parted in the middle. High heels and red lipstick reminded him of the first time they met. Charlie noticed the men staring at her, adoring her beauty and felt quite jealous as if they were checking out his girl. Charlie, just as other men glanced at her as much as it was possible but unlike them, he was the one sitting in front of her.
She was playful around them, she enjoyed the attention she was receiving for a bit but got bored of it soon. She started acting completely different and focused on Charlie. She was sweet and kind and funny.
The third time they saw each other was at the TD Garden. Charlie saw her on his way to the locker room talking with Billy. She had a pile of papers in her hands and it seemed like they were going over something important. Charlie wasn’t sure if she saw him, but he decided not to say anything and disappeared in the locker room.
When he was on the ice, he spotted her in the lodge with Billy. Charlie just realized it was the first time he saw her in jeans and a Bruins hoodie, hair in a high ponytail but the red lipstick was still present on her lips. She smiled brightly when she noticed him and held out a sign.
THE NICEST GUY(s) IN THE LEAGUE.
There was a black and white picture of the whole team, Charlie’s face framed in a red heart and Brad had angel wings and a halo above his head. It was made to look a newspaper and it was the nicest sign Charlie saw - though he could be biased.
After the game, Charlie hoped he would see her somewhere around but found Billy instead, waiting for him to give him the newspaper sign.
“Charlie? Can I talk to you for a minute?” Billy asked and continued talking after Charlie nodded. “I know it’s none of my business, but I noticed that you and Y/n talk quite a lot lately,”
“Wouldn’t say quite a lot but yeah,”
“Look, I know her for a few years now and I know how she is around men and you know... she likes the attention but she’s a really great girl. It’s just an act you know? She never takes it too far.”
“Yeah, I’ve noticed she likes the attention, but I never thought she sleeps around... not that it’s any of my business if she does.”
“I’m just trying to say that if you like her then don’t let it scare you,” Billy chuckled. “She usually calms down when she gets to know someone.”
The fourth time they met was when she spontaneously knocked on his apartment door with a bottle of wine for them to sip throughout the night. She wore black faux leather leggings, a simple white shirt, and a red sweatshirt. Her hair was in a low bun and she had no makeup on. She was just as beautiful as any other time he met her. They sat on the floor and talked while sipping the wine and they both felt unusually comfortable in each other’s presence. A rare connection between two people who hardly knew each other but could talk about anything with ease. It felt like they knew each other before.
“I see you kept my newspaper,” she smiled as she glanced at the sign she made for him. “I did a pretty good job, didn’t I?”
“You sure did,” Charlie smiled at her and adored her face before she turbed around to face him again. “Where did you go after the game?” He had this question on his mind for a while and couldn’t wait to get an answer.
“My sister broke up with her asshole boyfriend and wanted to meet,” she shook her head. “She drove from New York to Boston and stayed for a couple of days.”
“Go on a date with me,” Charlie blurted out and completely ignored the topic of their conversation. Maybe it was the alcohol that gave him the courage to ask for what was on his mind, maybe it was because he really wanted this a lot or maybe it was the power of the moment between them. “Please.”
“Okay.” She whispered, got closer to him and kissed him softly.
“I gotta say a thank you to Billy for bringing you to that party,” Charlie laughed and kissed her again.
Blizzard
Tumblr media
Pairing: Charlie Coyle x female!reader
Type: Fluff
Warnings: None
Word Count: 877
Summary: Boston sees a lot of blizzards. For four months out of the years the city is covered in that thick, white blanket of Hell. No matter how bad the storm gets, the Boston Bruins almost always have a game. When a game gets postponed due to weather, though, that's when Boston knows it’s gonna be a bad one.
~~~~
You rolled over, expecting to find an empty, cold space in bed next to you. Instead, your hand flopped onto a warm chest. You opened one eye to see Charlie still laying next to you.
“Morning,” he said, his voice husky. You glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand. The red numbers blinked 9:27.
“Why aren't you at practice?” you mumbled, still bleary from the night’s sleep.
“Game got canceled,” Charlie answered, wrapping his arms around you and holding you close to his chest. “Remember that blizzard they were talking about on the news last night?”
“Yeah,” you hummed and closed your eyes, letting yourself relax into Charlie’s embrace.
“It hit early, there’s like a foot and a half out there already,” he said, running a hand up and down your back. “So the league postponed the game for another night near the All Star Break.”
“I’m sorry,” you said, your voice muffled by your boyfriend’s t-shirt. “I know you were looking forward to playing Florida.”
“Yeah, well, I’d much rather spend the day with you,” he replied, shifted so he was eye to eyes with you. “We don’t get to spend enough time together anyway.”
“That’s for sure,” you agreed and pulled the sheets up to your chin. “What do you want to do today?”
“Absolutely nothing,” he answered as he kissed your forehead.
“Sounds good to me,” you grinned and shuffled closer to him. He let his arm rest on your waist as he rubbed his hand up and down your back. You sighed and closed your eyes again, letting yourself relax completely.
You treasured these moments with Charlie. He was rarely home, always either at practice or on a road trip to Canada or the west coast. You were perfectly fine with it, but there were days you wanted your boyfriend all to yourself. And now that you had him, you couldn’t be more happy.
“You smell good,” you said out of the blue as you took a deep breath, your eyes still closed and your face still buried in his chest.
“That’s because I was kind enough to take a shower after practice last night,” Charlie’s laugh rumbled deep in his chest.
“Shower,” you hummed. “That’s a good idea. I’m gonna take one of those then we’re watching a movie.”
“Deal,” he said, moving his arm so you could stand up.
“Take your time,” you said sarcastically as you slipped into the bathroom, leaving the door ajar.
“’Bout time,” Charlie smirked when you walked into the kitchen, his Bruins sweatshirt hanging off your shoulder and fuzzy socks on your feet.
“Shut up,” you said good naturedly, coming to stand behind him and wrap your arms around his waist. “Whatcha doing?”
“I thought we could do some baking,” Charlie answered, reaching for the flour. “I’ve been craving chocolate chip cookies.”
“I could go for some chocolate chip cookies,” you replied and walked over to the cabinet above the fridge. You stood on your toes and stretched to reach the bag of chocolate chips.
Baking with Charlie went smoothly until he leaned over and left a floury handprint on your ass.
“This means war,” you threatened, dipping your hand in the bag of flour and reaching up. You fluffed his hair, leaving the white power covering the strands. Charlie’s laugh filled the kitchen as he lobbed a ball of sticky cookie dough at you. It stuck to your sleeve as you turned at the last minute.
“As fun as this is,” Charlie said, pressing a hand to his stomach as he tried desperately to stop laughing. “I would rather eat these cookies than clean up the dough from the floor.”
“Agreed,” you said, taking deep breaths, trying to return your breathing to normal.
“What do you want to watch?” Charlie asked as you flopped down next to him on the couch after sliding the cookies in the oven.
“Hmmm,” you hummed, taking the remote from him and scrolling through your Netflix list, landing on Kid Gorgeous. “Always a safe bet.”
“How’d I know that’s what you were gonna pick?” Charlie smiled as you rested your head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around you.
The timer on the oven dinged, making you stand up and retrieve the cookies. As you set the tray on the counter, the lights when out, plunging the apartment into darkness.
“Well, it was only a matter of time,” Charlie sighed as he stood up. He hooked his arms around your back and under your knees. You squeaked as he lifted you off your feet and carried you back to your room.
“What are you doing?” you asked as he dropped you on the mattress and went to the closet.
“Gotta keep warm and we have like a hundred fuzzy blankets we never use,” he said as he emerged with an armload of blankets.
“You’re adorable,” you told him, shaking your head with a smile as you crawled beneath the comforter. Charlie slid in next to you piled blanket after blanket on top of you.
“Warm enough?” he asked.
“You’re ridiculous,” you said, your voice muffled by the layers of blankets he had pulled up to your chin.
“I thought I was adorable?”
“That too, I guess.”
