Cedric Diggory x Reader: Blossoming Love

Warnings: I don't believe there is anything.

The start of the school year at Hogwarts was a magical whirlwind of excitement and anticipation. The castle buzzed with energy as students returned to their beloved home away from home. Among those students was (y/n), a warm-hearted and hardworking Hufflepuff entering her sixth year.

Over the past couple of weeks, she was really starting to settle into her schedule. Her favorite class had always been Herbology. She absolutely adored Professor Sprout.

Professor Sprout’s voice rang through the greenhouse as she attempted to capture the attention of all of her students.

“Class, for this semester, we will be working on a long-term group project. Each of you will be paired with a partner and before you get too excited, I will be selecting your partners randomly.”

(y/n) exchanged excited glances with her closest friend, Eleanor Wilson, as they silently prayed that they would be partners. Nobody wanted to be partners with someone that they didn’t like or had never talked to.

The professor waved her wand as enchanted parchment soared through the air with names on them. (y/n) watched as a piece glided toward her and she held her breath in anticipation.

When the parchment landed in her hand, she unfolded it to reveal the name of her partner:

Cedric Diggory.

Eleanor’s eyes widened with surprise as she leaned over (y/n)’s shoulder and looked at the name. She giggled and winked at her friend.

Cedric wasn’t just any Hufflepuff. He was one of the more charming, talented, handsome guys (y/n) had ever come across during her time at Hogwarts. She thought he was absolutely perfect. However, the two of them had never really gotten a chance to know each other on a more personal level. They were in the same year, but (y/n) always looked at him like an unreachable star in the Hogwarts constellation.

Cedric slowly gathered his belongings and made his way toward her. Elanor smiled one last time at (y/n) and went to find her partner.

“Hi (y/n),” He grinned down at her. “I’m actually happy that we’re partners.”

“Really.” (y/n)’s eyes shot up in surprise. She was a little surprised that he even knew who she was.

“Yes.” He nodded earnestly. “Usually I end up pairing with one of my friends and that never goes well because I always end up doing all the work. But you don’t have to worry about that, I plan to pull my weight.”

For the project, the two of them had to explore and document herbal remedies for common magical ailments like burns, insect bites, or minor curses. Then they had to create a detailed pamphlet with instructions.

“Thank you, Cedric. I really appreciate that. I’ve also had my fair share of assignments where I’ve had to do most of the work.” (y/n) told him. And in that moment it seemed as if the two of them decided to pull their weight for the sake of the other one. They decided that the best thing would be to meet every other evening in the library when Cedric didn’t have Quidditch practice.

(y/n) very quickly learned that Cedric was so much more than just a pretty face. He was intelligent, funny, and above all, he was genuinely interested in their assignment and eager to collaborate.

As the weeks went by and the project unfolded, Cedric and (y/n) found themselves spending more and more time together. They were even spending time together doing things that had nothing to do with the project.

Even after doing their research in the greenhouse, they would have dinner together or play chess in the common room late at night. Rumors even started floating around the castle but somehow they hadn’t made their way back to them.

Once when the two of them found themselves alone in the common room, Cedric finally told (y/n) something that he had been wanting to tell her a couple of months ago. She uncovered a side of Cedric that only a few had seen - thoughtful and vulnerable. He found himself confiding in her about his aspirations, insecurities, and his innermost thoughts.

“You know (y/n), I really do appreciate your company. It’s nice to have someone to talk to.” Cedric’s voice had gone somber.

“I hope you know that I’m always here to listen.” (y/n) looked over at him with empathy. She couldn’t image how hard it was to be him.

“Thank you.” His eyes were filled with gratitude. “I like that you treat just like you treat everyone else you come across. You just see me as Cedric and that means a lot.”

Their bond deepened over the course of the semester, and Cedric found solace in sharing his thoughts and worries with (y/n). He began to look forward to not only their meetings but staring at her across the room in Potions or getting to have breakfast with her. It was nice to know that he could be himself without the weight of the spotlight.

However, their growing friendship did not go unnoticed by Cho Chang. The rumors had made their way back to her. She was someone who had caught Cedric’s eye in the past and even though they weren’t officially dating, she always wanted to a presence in his life. She couldn’t help but feel jealous of the connection (y/n) and Cedric was forging.

One day, Cho confronted (y/n) while she was sitting out by the Black Lake reading a book.

“Stay away from Cedric.” She hissed dark eyes piercing into (y/n)’s.

“Cho, there’s no need to worry.” (y/n) was taken aback by Cho’s hostility. “Cedric and I are just friends. I would never try to come between the two of you.”

“I’ve seen the way you and Cedric have been spending time together. Don’t think I haven’t noticed.”

“We’re just working on a semester long project together.” (y/n) responded completely unfazed by Cho’s hostility.

Cho’s expression softened slightly when she saw that (y/n) was genuine about not wanting to come between the two of them. “You better keep it that way.”

“Cho, you and Cedric aren’t officially dating.” (y/n) let out a patient sigh that caused Cho’s left eye to twitch. “Besides, I doubt he sees me the same way that he sees you. I’m not as beautiful as you.”

“Not as beautiful as me?” Cho let out a dark laugh. “I can’t believe you actually think that. Not only are you beautiful on the outside, but Cedric sees your kindness and genuine nature.”

Deep down, (y/n) couldn’t help but feel that Cho was a vision of grace and beauty. Someone that she could never compare to. There was no way that Cedric thought about her the same way he thought about Cho.

Despite her insecurities, (y/n) continued to be a supportive friend to Cho. She listened to his hopes and dreams, offered advice when he sought it, and cherished the moments they spent together. Cedric found himself seeking (y/n)’s company more and more.

As winter approached, the Yule Ball became the talk of the school. It was an event filled with excitement and anticipation. Of course, the idea of the Yule Ball crossed (y/n)’s mind, but she hadn’t given it a ton of thought. Eleanor tried to convince her to mention it to Cedric but after that conversation with Cho, there was no way.

“You know, (y/n), the Yule Ball is coming up.” Cedric sat down his quill. His hand had started to cramp from writing so much. “I was wondering if you wanted to go with me?”

“Me?” (y/n) sat her quill down and looked up at him. “Are you sure?”

“Of course I’m sure.” Cedric nodded with a warm smile. “I would love to go with you. You’ve been amazing and I can’t imagine a better date.”

“I’d be honored to go with you, Cedric.” (y/n) felt herself grinning. The thought of attending with him made her both nervous and excited. She never considered that someone like Cedric Diggory would ask her. And for second, the two of them felt themselves leaning in.

The world seemed to fade away as they shared an unexpected moment of intimacy. Their lips met in a tender heartfelt kiss. It was a silent confession of emotions that had grown stronger with each passing day. It was a realization that their bond was more than just friendship.

“I’ve wanted to do that longer than I care to admit,” Cedric whispered when they pulled away. His cheeks were flushed and both of their hearts were racing.

Now that their feelings were finally out in the open, the two of them spent the rest of the night working on the project, but not without sneaking glances at the other for the rest of the night.

Who am I and what do I do?

I go by El for short (most used), Eloise, or even Eli if that’s what you’d prefer (though not very used); she/her prononouns.

This blog is focused on VADTD and that only. My main focus most of the time are Callisto and Penelope, I love them so so much.

I post lots of my personal headcanons, AUs, memes and even episode/character/series analyses. Novel reader, so beware of spoilers! There are plenty on my page.

If you had to rank the core 7 canon books how would you order them?

Goblet of Fire my beloved <3 (tournament arc my beloved. yule ball my beloved dragons and mermaids and riddles my beloved viktor krum fleur delacour cedric diggory my beloveds QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP my beloved. real costs of war my beloved. the start of the actual story of harry potter and that's a hill I will dig my grave in.)

Prisoner of Azkaban (murder mystery + marauders lore + last real self-contained adventure novel in the series, also introduces the patronus mechanic, sirius black, remus lupin, etc. fun fact when i was growing up POA was the one book in the series I didn't own so I've read it the fewest times of any book and it STILL clears.)

Order of the Phoenix (what if your friend group were all members of a secret underground martial arts association with the goal of Sticking It To The Man? would that not be the coolest? and legions of us answered powerfully: Yea, it would be The Fucking Coolest. has the most convoluted plot of any of the books and it drags like hell at some points but it's also a really cool dive into character psychology and it's the first time it actually feels like our heroes can lose.)

Half-Blood Prince (by far the darkest book in the story, includes the much-awaited Tom Riddle backstory and finally sets up the lynchpin of the climax via the horcrux mechanic; Draco finally gets something approximating an arc, or like, basic three-dimensionality; the Slug Club is a delicious POV into what Slytherin could be/can be/actually is, culturally speaking; but I'm not a huge fan of Harry's plot with Dumbledore, and it means most of the D.A. from Book 5 are left with not a whole lot to do besides sit around and talk to Harry like videogame NPCs— including, most egregiously, Ron and Hermione, neither of whom seem all that enthused about the author's decision that they ought to kiss.)

Deathly Hallows: I just wouldn't make most of the decisions this book makes with respect to about how to end the series, and I've had a long time to come to peace with that. It's a fun, well-written Quest story, but it's not about the things I'd like it to be about.

Philosopher's Stone: this is a children's book. That's not the book's fault, it's perfectly clear about what it is, but I'm not going to enjoy it as much as books written with older readers in mind. It's also pretty woozy about the magic system, which bugs me, especially when the book breaks established rules from later in the series.

Chamber of Secrets: I don't not enjoy Chamber of Secrets, but in addition to being a children's book, the tone problem kind of drives me up the wall. It's a horror premise (serial killer on the loose in a Gothic castle, girl being possessed by a demon, self-abusing slave chasing Harry around trying to break his bones) and it's written like children's fantasy (i.e. the tone's very flippant and arch and British humor about everything). If the plot of this book and Half-Blood Prince switched places, both would rank much higher.

I dunno if I already mentioned it but I absolutely love Pokemon AU Cedric- He does contests and his mons are a Roserade that used to belong to his uncle before he passed, a shiny Mega Gardevoir bc the black dress is just gorgeous, and a Milotic that he got during what I like to call his Failboy Fisher arc-

Basically he's from Unova but one time he went to Hoenn to visit family over the summer, and he set his sights on fishing up a Feebas- Except this man is just. Horrible at fishing. Cue a montage of this dude in a suit and a "women want me fish fear me" hat getting pulled into the water, having his lunch stolen by Wingulls, a Corphish clamped onto his arm, the works-

Kyogre gets freed and torrential rains sweep through the region, but despite protest from family and people trying to evacuate citizens to higher ground, Cedric goes out to keep fishing anyways- He probably got struck by lightning once or twice but HE FINALLY CAUGHT THE DARN FEEBAS- LITERALLY THIS IMAGE ASKLFJDS

Also I like to think that he has all of his mons in luxury balls- And he was definitely That Kid who tried to intimidate his classmates with this Level 45 Roserade, but said Roserade is just having none of it and just picks up Cedric and walks away akjfsd- If Pokemon AU Cedric still had to deal with being abandoned by his parents, I like to think that Roserade was there for him when no one else was ouo

Also also if Cedric ever got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon'd I like to think he'd be a Zorua, he just has dark type vibes and I associate him with foxes. He gets to cause a little bit of trickery, as a treat >:3

THE ROSERADE ndjsfak i love when people acknowledge like pokemons roles in a family and not just under the context of trainers. like the kalos mom's ryhorn and all the non-trainer npcs chilling with their pokemon friends. It's probably not uncommon for a parental figure to tell their pokemon 'hey take care of the kid when i'm gone'

been thinking about the way lego games made not-so-childfriendly movies and series into games fit for children with maximum goof and still keeping key parts of the source material but lightening up dark and morbid topics (the Harry Potter games when cedric diggory(?) dies and they pull out a how-to-build for minifigures my god) and their silly spins on these themes, though childish as intended, are still so fucking funny. making the dinosaurs in jurassic park puke up their victims so they don't actually die? its so stupid. i love it so much i think about it to this day. and i know that there's a few issues and a plethora of bugs and a lot of those games were pretty half baked and just about making money. BUT JURASSIC WORLD THE LEGO GAME. i wasn't even that much of a dinosaur fanatic as a kid but that game had me in a chokehold. ALL 4 MOVIES. in one game?!? the best part was that you could go into the dinosaur sanctuaries and. be the dinosaurs i dont know why i found so much joy in that actually. just running around in there. being a dino.

on another note i also firmly believe that Lego lord of the rings started the open world game trend. oh there's been open world games before yeah and more popular after of course but YOU COULD WALK AROUND ALL OF WHATEVER THEY CALL IT! HOBBIT LAND! THE WHOLE THING! I wasn't even playing the actual game parts i was just taking my little lego characters on a walk all across the beautiful map over and over again like a lunatic.

i feel the need to add that the lego games have sadly taken a great fall over the years as they decided to add voice acting. so instead of listening to weird grunts and hums and basically the characters wildly gesturing the whole game as they have no other way to communicate, you now have to listen to cheesy one liners from some american actor guy. and whose to blame for this? The Lego Movie. (I did really enjoy the lego game of this too though. but sadly having started the trend of putting real fucking voices in my beloved lego games is an unforgivable sin)

Pure Vanilla Cookie Headcanons

In game

His staff is somewhat sentient, kinda like the soul jam but less powerful. That’s why it closes its eyes whenever PV opens his eyes and vice versa

When he was studying magic in the blueberry yogurt academy, he was quite rebellious, though still very passionate about magic. He would often skip classes to learn magic at his own pace and try to discover new spells

You know how people say that introverts don’t make friends and just get adopted by extroverts? Yeah, he adopted White Lily in that sense

He’s visually impaired, so when he was with Raisin Cookie on the ground, he covered both his eyes and his staff to get more in touch with his other senses

After the Dark Flour War, he followed a similar path as the player does in the game

Some people in nearby communities view him as a religious figure, due to the legends surrounding his kingdom and his ability to heal those around him

Before he was with Raisin on the ground, Custard Cookie III’s grandfather, premier custard cookie, was his second in command

He was very happy to see how bold yet sweet Custard Cookie III was, especially considering the impression that Custard Cookie and Clotted Cream left on him

When they were first dating, him and Dark Cacao would have picnics at the national park. They would just sit and talk for most of the time, enjoying each others presence

Dark Cacao fell for Pure Vanilla first, but seeing the soft blush that would form on his now-husbands face when they interacted caused Pure Vanilla’s romantic feelings to hit him like a truck

1907, USA (The South)- 17 year old Carrie-Ann Bishop dreams of escaping from an unwanted marriage with a man more than twice her age to instead live with her beloved friend, Miss Lillian. All along he realizes that he is not the daughter his family insists he is. Becoming Carson Bleu frees him from what he thought he could not escape. However, as most young men in his generation, Carson soon finds himself heading off to Europe to join the allies in WWI as a solider.

Part historic drama, part family epic with twists of mystery and romance; The 8 Bastards of Cedric St. John is an experimental writing project inspired in part the Modernist movement. The story will jump around in time and shift in perspective between the various characters to slowly unfold the whole story of Cedric's many children in 20th century England and beyond.

All names used in this project are not based on any real people living or dead. This is all my imagination- no one in this story was ever a real living person.

You always say that you are a shipper and that ships are very important to you. So lets talk about that. I ask you for your top 5 moments/scenes of each of the following trails ships: Estelle and Joshua. Rean and Alisa. Elie and Lloyd. Cedric and Shirley. Millium and Jusis. Swin and Nadia. And I want an explanation of why every of those scenes is in which place (but maybe try to make it short)

(Me? Making it short? As if! XD)

Lets start with Estelle and Joshua.

Joshuas and Estelles reunion Sky 2

I don't really think I need to explain this one. There was something amazingly satisfying about the whole scene. First of all because we waited forever for this moment, but more so because of the fact that Joshua has acted like Estelle didn't mean that much to him anymore in the previous chapters, in fact, for a small moment it even looked like he was considering a future with Josette. So seeing that he still cared about her, that he still wanted to protect her, still loved her and that despite everything, nothing of his feelings for her has changed, was just... as I said before, so damn satisfying to watch.

2. Joshuas and Estelles reunion (part two) Sky 2 (Beach scene)

One might argue that that scene basically belong to the scene above, but I really think we should see them as separate scene, as this was basically the moment were Joshua has brought Estelle to safety and decided it was time to leave her again, just for her to give him a piece of her mind and him ending up crying with her arms around him and then they FINALLY had a real true loves kiss and it was so... hach... magical. Shipping-Heaven and all. All was well again all of the sudden (after almost 6 chapters of pure utter suffering) in the World of Trails in the Sky ♥ (One might ask why that is not my most favorite scene, but the moment of screaming "FINALLY!" when Joshua came to save Estelle can not even be beaten by a kiss XD)

3. The painful love-confession Sky 1

Even tho the scene was somewhat bittersweet, I think the final scene between Joshua and Estelle in the first Trails in the Sky game was romantic in etwas very own way and deserves the third place in this list. After we started out with Joshua OBVIOUSLY being in love with Estelle and Estelle being as oblivious as Trails-Protagonists can be, it was so great to see her finally revealing her feeling to Joshua. And on the freaking rooftop of a damn castle. (Seriously, these guys have the best places for their best moments. I mean, how many people do get a sweet reunion kiss at a beach?) We also get a kiss in this scene, obviously, although that was the final nail in the "something is off here" - coffin, it was still kind of nice. How often do we get kisses that early on?

4. The scene were Joshua was supposed to kill Estelle Sky 2

Guys, the panic. The pure, absolute and utter panic you feel when you think of the fact that Joshua who FINALLY got reunited with his beloved sun, is about to kill her in a state where he has no control over himself and that when he gets back to his senses will have to face that he killed what he loved most in the world with his very own hands. But thank god the boy saw that one coming and suddenly, kneeling over Estelle, Sword on her throate and all (if you are into that kind of stuff, with no people around and all, that would have been the perfect moment to start making a smut out of this scene - and now you know my dirty secret XD), comes back to his senses and reveals that he knew that Weissmann would try to make him kill the love of his life and found a way not just around this, but also to break his stigma. The way the scene played out was really wholesome.

5. Joshua getting angry because Estelle was attacked Crossbell-Arc

I honestly can not remember the full scene or what exactly happened anymore - the Crossbell-Games are a blur to me mostly, to be honest - but wasn't it that Estelle was intervening in a fight and was attacked by Wald or so because he wasn't having her stopping him? In any case, what I do remember is how our dear, rational, calm and collected Joshua got pissed of because of that and I was like: Ah yes, the ship is still sailing quite well XD It seems like a rather small scene compared to the others, but after a while it was quite satisfying to see.

Honorable Mentions: Their link event (subtle but cute) and Cassius asking Joshua when he is going to marry Estelle in the Hajimari special - because for once in my life I did actually agree with Cassius damn Bright XD

Next is Elie and Lloyd and that is actually a hard one, because I can barely remember anything from the Crossbell-Saga. But I do try.

Their reunion-hug Hajimari

Most of you obviously saw that coming miles away but I loved their reunion in Hajimari. After waking up with Rixia in Crossbell, Elie is the first one Lloyd gets reunited with and its with a wonderful tender embrace and and absolut moment of blissful happiness for those two and I LOVED IT. (Doesn't have anything to do with them mirroring a certain scene in CS3 between Rean and Alisa that will definitely not at all get mentioned again here soon XD) Definitly the most heartfelt of Lloyds reunions and it speaks volumes how easily he falls into that hug and hugs Elie back with the tender voicedrop and all. Hach... being a shipper is great ♥

2. "I support you with my heart" (or something like that) Hajimari

Not so much after our sweet reunion we get Elie having some doubt because she couldn't protect KeA whom Lloyd loved so much and that she feels like some sort of mother figure towards. Well, true to his Trails-Protagonist-Status, he came to assure her that everything will be alright eventually, telling her what he thinks about the path she has chosen in life and ending up with her squeezing out of him that he supports her with his heart, while his hand was on her shoulders for like 5 minutes or so. Absolut gold and speaking volumes about the state of their relationship, even tho no one says it out loud.

3. The rooftop-scene (not sure if it was Zero or Ao tho...)

What would a Falcom-intended-ship be without a heartfelt talk while watching the nightsky? Lloyd and Elie have that one covered for sure and even tho I have my qualms with this scene and how Lloyds character kind of ruined it, it still was a really nice moment for shipper to see them have that kind of semi-romantic canon-moment.

4. The talk in the morning after (once again, no Idea if it was Ai or Zero)

So after some teasing from our dear Randy, Lloyd pointed out that he and Elie would never be a thing and while the scene was kind of ruining the shipping-vibe he and Elie gave at that point, it was still so damn hilarious to watch Lloyd digging himself a hole deeper than any Rean has ever been in while this whole time (and that is what still makes the scene somewhat worth being in here) he never claims he is not interested in her, in fact, he just thinks he is not worth her, actually hinting that he would be interested but feel like its useless because she deserves better than him. Laughing aside it also makes the scene kind of bittersweet.

5. Elie basically being the mother to KeA who sees Lloyd as some sort of father Zero & Ao

KeA was for me personally an absolut turning point for the Crossbell-Saga as she brought something to the SSS that it has been lacking before. As a shipper tho, the best thing KeA brought was the fact that after she basically chose Lloyd as her father figure, Elie was naturally taking on the position of a mother figure and it worked so well with Lloyd and it felt absolutely meant to be this way. Your ship kinda raising a child together is somehow a next level-happyness moment for me as a shipper, so it needed to be mentioned here.

Honorable mentions: The optional scenes: Elie and Lloyd going to that party together dressed all fancy, the almost kiss at the IBC and the heart to heart on the Mekaba.

Next are Swin and Nadia. (I am obviously not following the order, because I want to save the best for last XD) They didn't have that much screentime or shipping-scenes, despite being obviously intended to be a ship, so this will be even harder than Elie and Lloyd.

1. Swin pulling a Joshua on us Kuro 2

Probably no surprise to you that for Swin and Nadias best moment, I chose the moment were he jumped in to attack the fake Ace in favor of protecting Nadia after leaving her behind for so damn long. And of curse the hug that followed after it. After everything those two put me threw in a game that wasn't even their own I deserve a thousand more of those hugs I tell you. But for now, that one was more than satisfying for me as a starving shipper. Also, I kind of liked the idea that they more or less copied what Joshua did with his Stigma, to protect Estelle. Because it says a lot about the direction Swin and Nadias relationship is going in.

2. Nadia sleeping on Swins lap Hajimari (and Kuro flashback)

It was so freaking cute ♥ I mean, if you have read 3 and 9 (which you should) you already knew that Nadia can only properly sleep when she has Swin closeby, like... body-contact closeby works best, but seeing it firsthand was so damn cute. And I loved that when she woke up and called for Swin, who had been checking on things in the cockpit, he immediately returned to her. I mean, guys lets face it, was is cuter then character A laying resting with their head in character Bs lap?

3. Their reunion-hug Hajimari

The whole mess of Swin and Nadia as well as Rufus and Lapis being separated by whatever force has wonderfully shown how far our other groups have come in the meantime and how far Rufus team still has to go. However, the greatest part about it was Swins utter panic about not being able to protect Nadia and how Rean made sure to keep him calm until they could actually reunite and then, when they finally did have their reunion, Swin might have been surprised by the hug, but he certainly hasn't pushed Nadia away and the whole situation was all in all really cute. (Bonus points if you have noticed Reans silence after Swin said Nadia was like a sister to him - I felt like he was thinking the same thing that went through my head back then: "Yeah. Sure. Keep telling yourself that. God, this line is getting old at this point." XD)

4. Schoolfestival dance 2.0 Kuro 2

With the weird mix of Shizuna and Aaron and me not being sure about Feri and Quatre dancing together either, Swin and Nadia dancing too kind of made that scene a lot more enjoyable, especially since Nadia looked so happy. And dance-scenes certainly are an important part of any shippers greatest shipping-dreams and many ships will never ever get a dance scene (especially given how Van didn't dance with either Elaine or Agnes) so one must enjoy moments like these.

5. Riding on a motorbike together Kuro 2

Its once again really just a small moment, but I found it so cute to see Nadia hugging Swin from behind and enjoying it so much, while they were sitting on a bike together in the last Connect-Event with Van. Its small moments like these, for small ships like these that makes you happy.

Next is Millium and Jusis. They also don't have that many big moments, but they gathered a hand full of small moments over the cause of 5 games, so that should be doable.

Honorable mentions: Their introduction scene in Kuro 2s opening. Nadias reaction when it looked like Swin was stabbed in Kuro 2.

(By the way... how was I supposed to keep that short with so many ships? However, funny enough, Tumblr just told me the text is too long, so I have to make a separate post to answer the rest of the ask ^^‘)

A bit too chipper, Lilith vanquished her candle flame. “...There’s technically more to that story, but that’s all I should share about it.”

An awkward silence.

“I don’t remember hearing about that one,” Kai broke the quiet.

“Yeah, me neither,” Enzo agreed.

“That’s probably because everyone forgot about her so quickly, since she pushed everyone away like she did,” their senior explained, a subtle sadness welling up in her eyes. “No one talked about her after she disappeared. It was as if she never existed at all.”

Effie frowned. “That’s still really sad…I’m sure she would appreciate that you still remember her though.”

“...There are times I wish we could have swapped places, but that's probably wrong of me to think.”

“Hey,” Kenny began, “don’t think like that! We appreciate you being here, and I’m sure your friend would be happy knowing that you’re still around too. It’s not your fault all that happened.”

She responded to his words, and the mutual agreement around the room, with a small smile. “Thank you. You don’t need to try and comfort me though. I’ve reflected on it many times, and I can cope with my reality now.”

Beside her, Cedric was watching through the corner of one open eye.

“Ahh, I’ve spoken too much already. Let’s move on.” She leaned his way. “Figure out your story, my love?”

“Yes, I did.”

“Then, take it away!”

Cracking a smile, he gave a breathy chuckle. “Thank you.”

When I was born, the doctor that helped deliver me slipped on the sterile floors shortly after and fell on his head. This accident claimed his life that day.

When I was 3, my parents had no choice but to leave me with a babysitter for an undetermined period of time. They were forced to rearrange plans when she had an unexpected heart attack that took her life far too young.

When I was 6, I used to play with my neighbour’s children. We would enjoy running about, guided by our imaginations in our front lawns. That is, until my then-friends were hit by a drunk driver swerving off the road.

It was a tragedy, of course. And the fool of a driver was drunken, so it was clearly his poor decisions that caused this to unfold, correct?

When I was 9, a terrible storm struck the city and damaged our roof. My uncle came to visit for the holiday, offering to fix it while he helped my parents prepare the day’s feast. We had a wonderful time.

Eating quickly, my uncle then dismissed himself a bit early to get to work, and my father left the house to see if the neighbours had a few extra supplies that could be repaid later.

A series of loud crashes followed. My uncle had slipped and fallen off the ladder. He would have been fine, had the beam above him not fallen and impaled his side.

He was pronounced dead upon arriving to the hospital.

We mourned him, as he was a beloved family member. It was all because of the havoc the storm had wrought upon our home that his life was taken from us far too soon.

When I was 12, I visited a local faire with my parents. There were plenty of stalls, entertainers, food, colourful lights. One particular act I was taken with was a series of people dressed as knights, “re-enacting” battles of old—horses, armour, and lances included.

The group was filled with spectacular actors. I was almost convinced I had been transported to the past, witnessing the true squabbles of rival knights. But, perhaps that immersion went too far when one of them was unexpectedly struck and thrown from his steed. He didn’t move for several minutes, and had to be escorted out by emergency services.

I discovered later that he had broken his back. However, I heard that he has since recovered and is doing well. He’s taken to acting on the stage of these faires, and his brilliant acting carries him through a successful career.

When I was 15, I joined a dance group. I had become fascinated with dance after developing a crush on a cheerleader, but my interest led me into the love of the venture rather than the romance of another.

I was told I learned quickly, and could keep up with my seniors quite well. There were minor setbacks here and there, but we eventually worked hard enough to register for a small competition.

It was disastrous. Through a series of blunders, we lost miserably. Everyone around me was sent home with some sort of injury. Two of our members were forced to permanently retire from their dream as a result.

When I was 18, I took the bus to make a long trip for personal matters. The way home was much longer due to the stops that were made, and by the time I had nearly returned, a car drove into the side I was seated on.

Due to my not sitting by the window, I wasn’t directly caught in the crash as my seatmate was. As far as I heard, however, they managed to recover since I escaped the scene quickly.

When I was 21, a bridge I had been resting on while reading collapsed shortly after I departed. A passing bystander was caught with the rubble, but was thankfully rescued from the water, and walked away with only minor injuries.

When I was 24, a devastating explosion demolished half of one of the buildings at my former university. It was the building I primarily studied in.

Thankfully, no one, not even a janitor, was caught in the devastation, as it happened after-hours.

You may have noticed a pattern by now. Perhaps I am surrounded by misfortune, and I have been chosen as the unlucky soul to witness such terrible tragedies.

Perhaps that is an honest statement to some degree, but it is not the truth.

Though, not every instance of ill fortune was so dramatic. When I was 5, a dodgeball somehow slipped past someone's hands and hit the classmate beside me in the nose. When I was 10, a classmate tripped and fell, landing on his own sharpened pencils. (As they were only pencils, he received but a few minor cuts). When I was 15, a close friend of mine would constantly slip and drop his lunch, often all over himself.

My mother took notice of the events happening around me when I was still young, and brought me to many witches and mages to figure out the cause.

Only one granted us an answer. "The boy was born with an ill aura. For as long as he lives, terrible things will happen to those around him. He cannot choose who, nor the severity of the event, as he lacks the vile soul for it to take root in. Perhaps you could say that he, too, was struck with ill fortune upon birth."

He also mentioned that my parents must be immune to the effects of it, as they, or my mother at least, would likely have perished long before I was born.

Despite this, my parents didn't wish to isolate me from society for something outside my control. So, my mother taught me how to ward myself and others in order to reduce or negate any possible consequences of it.

If you've visited Greenwall pharmacy, you may have noticed odd “decor” around the area. Those are not simply decoration; they are talismans I've set in place to protect my technicians and the public we serve. My team is also informed upon hire of the circumstances they'll be working under for their safety. While that has scared some away, my current employees have faithfully remained at my side despite the occasional mishaps.

But, before I stay in a public place for long, there is an incantation I must recite. I’ve also come to understand the feeling of my own aura before it triggers disaster, so I can quickly recite it beforehand and it will still take effect. While I’ve discovered other methods to keep those around me as safe as possible, my mother created and taught me my primary incantation herself.

It goes like this:
