I think the reason Etho is more loyal to Cleo than he's ever been to bdubs isn't simply out of the blue character development, it's not that he likes her more or is afraid of her iit's not even strategy

I think it's mostlly that Cleo really inspires loyalty. Bc she is very openly very unflinchiingly loyal but also because she is a bit paranoid and expects to be betrayed and will not forgive easily or quickly if she is betrayed

Bdubs is incredibly loyal to Etho but let's be real there is no risk of Etho ever losing that. Etho has repeatedly not given Bdubs the same loyalty Bdubs has given him and yet Bdubs will always still choose Etho and put him on a pedestal. There's no risk there so there isn't any reason for Etho to grow or change.

Cleo though? Cleo doesn't put Etho on a pedestal. They won't accept anything from him they wouldn't accept from other people. They will call him out and if he betrays them, will not forgive it easily. And that means that suddenly there are stakes and Etho has to step up and through that I think he realises that hey maybe he wants to be loyal actually. He doesn't want Cleo to hate him. He doesn't want to hurt Cleo (and maybe he never realised how much he hurt bdubs because bdubs always came back)

actually thats one thing i respect so much about bdubs and etho. bdubs is considered one of the best builders on hermitcraft (and in general) and etho is considered one of the best redstoners of all time. bdubs used his building expertise to come up with a really inventive and uncustomary way to do redstone (prettystone) and etho used his redstone expertise to come up with a really wacky and creative way to build (the monstrosity). it's why they're so good at what they do—they take the conventions of what they've already mastered and use their experience flip it on its head entirely. they don't stop at mastery and are constantly learning and trying to inject their creativity into other areas of minecraft and i find that so cool....

#i will NEVER get over the fucking. GATE bdubs made earlier this season #like. he literally painted with blocks.#also bdubs didn't need to learn redstone but he did it Anyways because he wanted to learn #idk its awesome! his character is very deliberately Confident and egotistical but bdubs as a cc is a genuinely very humble guy and it Shows #i might not have worded this well but idc #ethoslab #bdoubleo100
