I think the problem with this fandom is that it contains way too many people who would read Julius Caesar and think the assassination is an Irredeemable Villain Moment for Brutus* while also thinking Antony is super valid for burning down half the city and doing proscriptions to avenge one (1) guy.
* Cassius already had his Irredeemable Villain Moment by sending anon letters because that means he LIED. Cassius is lying all the time, you see, even when he is talking to himself.

looking back at spite and the Rough Era™ of tess and joel's partnership, what do you think were the genuine root causes of the angst and tension between them? and if you had to pick, what did each of them want in that whole mess but couldn't ask for of the other?
Tumblr media
This is a hard question, I guess because I don't really view the story critically, I just kind of feel my way through. That's how it makes sense to me. So I'm feeling my way through this answer too, lol. I hope it makes sense and answers your question properly!
The Rough Era™ in Driftersverse really covers two periods, which are the Indy years (which is in Dawn but covered in better detail in Spite) and the Boston years, which are briefly in Dawn, Cassius blue and will be covered more in a future fic. In each period, they essentially faced the same set of issues that led to some estrangement from one another.
The Indy years were worse because it was earlier in their partnership and they were still finding their way as survivors, and what they were capable of. But the resolution of Spite set them up to be able to survive what would later come in Boston, if that makes sense. By Boston, there really wasn't anything they could do to one another that would threaten their partnership at all. They'd survived it before. They were set by this point, and understood one another on every level. Without the Indy years they wouldn't have survived Boston. (Plus also, Tess was different by Boston - she had moved forward, while Joel was still wallowing in the past). The dynamic was strong but it was different.
With that out the way ...
The root causes of angst and tension were probably the stationary aspect of their situation. They were relatively secure and didn't have to worry about food or shelter, and it gave them all this time to really turn on themselves. They had a similar situation in Tennessee but they weren't around other people then, they could just get on with building chicken coops and gathering food, without all the fear and aggression and worst of humanity crowding in around them. When survival wasn't at the absolute forefront of their everyday, there was time to reflect on what they'd lost and how shit everything was and all the terrible things they'd done to make it. (Incidentally, Tess would return to that stationary mode of thinking in Jackson, but Joel doesn't, and that's a Whole Other Thing).
And what did each of them want but couldn't ask of the other? Tess wanted Joel to heal. Joel wanted Tess to give him her whole self.
Thank you for the ask, lovely. xxx

There are many reasons I appreciate the Red Rising series. At first, I enjoyed it because it cured my boredom. Then, I was thankful for it because when some people got too loud, I could elect to read a fantastic book instead of throwing rocks.
And then there's everything else, really. There's wayyyy too much to spell out coherently. Jumping between one reason, and then having some god give me a divine boon in the form of yet ANOTHER reason why RR is the most underrated gem I've ever come across.
But right now, after finishing Lightbringer (literally today on the way home from a lecture) the thing I appreciate most about RR is its narrative on strength? And how absolutely soul touching it is?
Like. Pre-Book 1 and during book 1 is just survival mode. You've gone semi-emotionally numb with the strain of just. Getting Through The Bad Times. Darrow has somehow survived the mines, and it took so much out of him that I don't think even he really realised. And then Eo. And then the revelation. So now he lives and pushes through with rage - like a helldiver. It's all he has, along with a goal, so it's gotta be enough. There's no other way.
And then Books 2-3 are, through insurmountable setbacks, even through outgrowing your original goal, which fueled his spite entirely, he rises. He can no longer just be angry, even if its still in grasp, even if it's his oldest friend. He has other things he's discovered - his own abilities, a support network. The mantra 'Stay Strong or Die' continues. And even if it is aided by things other than single-mindedness, it is upheld. Darrow is the strongest he's ever been end of Book 3. He chose option 1. He can take on the world, and then another, and then another, and then all of them at once. It was hard but he stayed strong, so he will be strong.
And then the second part of the series. Um. Well. It does not go well for him exactly. You see, he has been in the mindset of survival for so long- as long as he can remember, really. He believes its natural for him. Its not, its learned, but it hasn't really had a chance to distinguish himself. He severely underestimates exactly how much prolonged service of his mantra takes from him - but at this point, can he even create another one? It's all that's gotten him to this point (not necessarily true), it's his oldest crutch. When in stressful situations, we do not rise to the occasion nor to our ideals, but rather we fall upon our base training. And anger is at his core.
You can see things slowly loosen themselves around him - the Vox, Mercury (Jesus, everything that happened with Mercury). Stay Strong or Die is unravelling at the seams. What do you do when your basic, core tennate, the thing which kept you from falling, the pillar on which you balance to spin various dishes, wobbles?
Darrow comes crashing down, and for once, anger isn't what leaps forward to catch him. In fact, nothing catches him. Instead, he lays, and is blanketed by tiredness. He stays there awhile.
He's not Strong.
He's not strong.
Hesnotstronghesnotstronghesnotstronghesnot
There are two options. If he's not the first, the second one follows, no?
No.
By pure fucking luck, happenstance, or whatever benevolent God saw the absolute shitstorm that was going on with Darrow, clutched their pearls in shock, and with trepidation waved whatever blessing they could Darrow's way, Darrow does not die when he is not strong.
Because that blessing, what used to come second to him whenever his rage bullied itself into the forefront, stays when his rage leaves just as fast as it came.
Eo. Sevro. Virginia. Electra. Orion. Cassius. Ragnar. Alexandar.
Pax.
His strength leaves him, but it is replaced with something else.
Death begets death begets death.
Love begets love begets love.
Begets strength.

21 kotlc asks that make you think
an ask game by me! please remember to tag #kotlc discourse if you are arguing against other fans. also, feel free to answer any of these without being asked!
If KotLC was rewritten from a different POV, whose would you want it to be?
Do you think Keefe made the right decision running away at the end of Unlocked? If not, what do you think he should have done?
Which character would you most like to grab lunch with? What do you think you would talk about?
Do you think Lord Cassius is redeemable?
If you could give one character any item, what and whom would it be? (Hard mode: You can't give anyone a gun.)
How do you think more "human" animals, like dogs or horses, fit into the elvin world?
What's your opinion on the elvin economy?
If you could go shopping around Atlantis for a day (and money was no object), what would you buy?
Do you think the elves and gnomes have a mutually beneficial relationship, or is it skewed?
If you could make one character a Councillor, who would it be? Whom would you replace?
Do you think light leaping sounds more fun or frightening?
Why do you think Sophie didn't realize Dex, Fitz, or Keefe had feelings for her?
Do you think Alden and Della were right that Alvar should be given a second chance in Flashback, or do you think Fitz was right that having his memory erased didn't make him innocent?
If you could change just one thing about the elvin world, what would it be?
Who do you think is genuinely the evillest of all the characters?
Who do you think is genuinely the most heroic of all the characters?
Which species do you find the most interesting?
How do you think the Council should have handled the Pyrokinesis deaths, instead of banning the ability?
What do you think is the full education system of the elves (past Foxfire and Exillium)?
How old do you think Councillor Bronte is?
Do you think the Council is evil, or just in over their depth?

Hm. Well, on the bright side. Cassius has gone fully no bullshit mode, it appears. I think some of what you said was received, at least by him.
I can't even be happy about that right now (╥_╥)

okay, following up with headcanon for the ask game--vesnia has absolutely caught a fish by a) doing the super-quick scoop-out-of-the-water thing and/or b) catching one when it leapt out of the water for a second (that one could be either in her paw or in her mouth asjk;ldf) :) @kerra-and-company
Tumblr media
kitty hours !! AND YEAH. ABSOLUTELY. she strikes me specifically as someone who grew up never using fishing poles and she wouldnt TODAY either. this is her fishing style now. also this idea briefly possessed me actually:
"Hey, watch this," Swiftreign broke off from the group, casually wading into the river. Behind her, Cassius sighed as he smiled. "Bear cat mode?" "Bear cat mode," she gleefully called back, suddenly buckling down and shoving her mouth into the water. She turned back around, a rather large salmon twitching in her jaws. "Well," Khozzak could barely hold back their chuckle, "I guess we're fishing for dinner."

A set of 3 little things with Cassius, which were supposed to be, like, "how to make backgrounds all ornate-looking and cool-looking" except I kinda lost that by the end (very sad). They still look cool though lol
background only under the cut, cos they, similarly, look pretty cool

#SublimationIsWar : guerre après guerre, battle after battle
Tumblr media
Serge Coosemans.
War And Peace (The Battle) n’avait laissé que de bons souvenirs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Killing Joke, Tones On Tail, Bauhaus, The Dead Kennedys, Gang Of Four, The Human League, Eno...

Shosh was standing in line at the bar—which normally she didn’t have to do, except that Plasma was absolutely packed with patrons tonight. She was tapping her foot with seeming impatience, but in truth, Shosh wasn’t all that bothered by having to wait; she was happy for Robin, that the place was doing well. And Shosh was just genuinely in a good mood.
Her hair felt heavy and hot after some hard dancing, and Shosh gathered it up in a fist and held it up and off her neck to get some air on her flushed skin. She was bobbing a little, subconsciously, in time with the music, when suddenly a pair of very muscular arms hoisted her up from behind and spun her around. Shosh yelped in surprise, and was about to go into defensive mode when she was set back gently on her feet, and she realized it was just Derek. “Holy fuckin’ hell Derek, you gave me a fright—I was about a second away from kicking you in the nads…” Shosh said, blinking away her dizzy vision.
“Oh, my bad!” Derek replied apologetically, harmless and obtuse as ever. “But hey—what a coinkydink, huh? When I saw you I was just about to grab some drinks for me and…”
Tumblr media
In that moment, as Shosh looked over Derek’s shoulder and laid eyes on her former best friend moving their way, time seemed to slow down to a near halt. She could no longer hear Derek’s voice, or even the skull-reverberating music that was blasting from the club’s speakers, over the stuttered thump-thump, thump-thump of her own pulse in her ears. All the color drained from her face (not that Shosh really had that much color to her pale complexion to begin with).
Tumblr media
Everyone held their positions for one very tense minute. Say something. Don’t give that prick the satisfaction of the first word—
“Cassius,” Shosh blurted out, curt and abrupt. She sniffed, her spine straightening. “It’s good to see you so…out and about. Not really your scene, if I recall…”

He still feels a bit haunted sometimes by the presence of his Porygon. Error had just... shown up in his boxes one day, his OT listing Xavier even though he’d never caught or been given a Porygon by any means.
Tumblr media
Trying to bring it up with Cassius didn’t get him anywhere either, nobody was claiming that they lost a Porygon anywhere. Error was undoubtedly his, but...where had he come from?
Tumblr media
The digital pokemon was seemingly in sleep mode sitting by Xavier’s bed, and Xavier wasn’t about to wake them. He just looked on in confusion, but knew he wouldn’t receive any answers either.

I never thought I was going to write a headcanon post about my ocs' butts but here I am, I guess.
I won't be going into every single npc here because there's too many to keep track of and this post will never end if I did that. Cyril's ass is up to your interpretation lmao.
Let's begin!
That little icon is indeed of Ozzie, for a joke drawing I'm not sure I'm going to finish because the perspective and anatomy is way off. I wasn't using any of the 3D models and you can tell.
The Feathertons are renowned for their voluptuous derrières. So much so that poor Cassius had the "ass" in his name emphasized all throughout his time as a student (and occasionally when women are admiring his physique). Ebony doesn't have as much of an ass compared to the other women in her family (she's more top-heavy), but it's still there.
The Abberquacks, on the other hand, aren't as fortunate. They're occasionally called the "Assless-quacks" because they tend to be basically non-existent. Johnny/Nate has a tiny one, but his is probably the most prominent in the bloodline aside from Walter's (who takes more after the Feathertons in that regard). Alroy has no ass, like, at all.
Tumblr media
I don't believe it's possible for it to be any flatter. I'm so sorry, Zanna asdfghjkl.
The Crossfeathers have a varying level of ass, by nature of having a lot of children. I can't go into all of them because there's too many of them, but I'll say that Rylund and Lundyn have cute lil rumps.
Still trying to figure out the rest of the Gen 0 body types. The only other one I'm certain about is Penelope, she has an hourglass figure that she flaunts...a lot.
I'm not entirely sure about Franklin—I don't see him having a Featherton booty, but he's definitely not an Assless-Alroy either. He's just...average ass I guess? Bre's in a similar situation, though hers would be more prominent than her father's because of her body type.
If you've seen any of my recent drawings of Kathleen (after I got her body type figured out), you probably know about hers already. Patrick has a lil booty himself, though I'm not always consistent with how I draw him. Vivian is very petite and though she's not as flat as Alroy (no one is as flat as Alroy), she doesn't really take after either of her parents. Her dresses sometimes give her the appearance of having an ass though, which comes with the territory of wearing Victorian-esque clothing.
Damn it, almost forgot Corbin! His physique resembles his mother a lot when he's in Dysphoria Mode and it made him self conscious about his butt. Even though it's not as prominent with the body he feels the most comfortable in, it's still pretty plump and girls make comments about it (which he hates). People might not mean to cause him Dysphoria, but Corbin would prefer if no one talked about it at all.
